Wolves win Game 7 vs. Nuggets Reaction! How Minnesota got it done vs. defending champs

Give It Up to Minnesota congrats they win game seven on the road two Road teams win a game seven yeah but this one was insane way more fun the Wolves win 9890 pure domination in the second half after going down 20 and they are headed to the Conference Finals to take on the Dallas Mavericks that’s going to be fun first things first this is the first time they’re going to the Conference Finals in 20 years 20 years ago today they beat our Kings in game seven at the Target Center that ended the Kings as we knew them I I still feel it to this day but I can’t help but be so happy for Minnesota because this team has like so many similarities to the Kings and just dude they’ve had coaching changes Galore Miss draft picks a lot of turmoil a lot of losing they have 12 winning seasons in 35 years this is only their second Conference Finals appearance in the way they did it against the defending champs down 20 was incredible all the angles all all the the things that are factoring into this game specifically I think this series as a whole there was some really good moments and then there’s such lopsided games yeah that it became not boring but it just wasn’t as fun this game seven lived up to everything I wanted wanted it to be obviously when we saw Denver go up by 20 you’re just going okay wow this is how it’s going to end I still didn’t feel that way I didn’t feel like it was going to be the end for the t-wolves going in that second half because they were just missing a lot of shots and when I say they it was mostly a right your main guy he’s not getting things done but he was getting everyone else involved and then they really turn it on there in the third quarter and when they started when they got things going it just felt like they never never looked back and that type of energy from this team led by guys like cat and uh Anthony Edwards it was it was it’s what you want to see from your main guys and was more decisive in that third quarter I I felt like he handled that the double teams much better and you’re right other guys step up I mean this is what it took the depth of Minnesota showed big time in this one Jaden McDaniels back-to-back games where you already know what he does defensively but what he’s doing offensively is what Minnesota thought they had in him they they’re really high on his offensive upside in a game seven 23 points six rebounds two steals uh ant was six of 24 but you felt his impact on the game like the fact that he was six of 24 two of 10 from three and go dude he made some awesome plays and his ability to get in the paint spray out collapse the defense hit those spray threes get the ball rotating it open things up for for Minnesota Denver was doing such a fantastic job on Ant and then I think Aunt also not seeing the ball go through the net it was just it it became something where it was like o you know he’s not shooting in Rhythm this flow is a little off for him but for him to really take a step back and go okay how can I make sure I’m making everyone better and he understood the chaos that he causes when he is aggressive and drives into the pain that it collaps defenses and just creates better opportunities for the rest of his teammates and obviously like we said like with McDaniels and everyone but it was um I don’t know like when you look at his box score it’s not a a cute statline but truly what he was able to offer to his team by just being in remaining aggressive was great his leadership shined yeah because he he was missing Shots tonight I didn’t see his head go down he kept playing he was miked up tonight and you just heard the encouragement you’re like oh this guy’s locked in like if your leader is not feeling deflated when you’re down 20 your head better stay up because this guy is missing some shots he’s still playing out there and I think they all Fe they all feed off this guy it was apparent they lifted him too by knocking down shots and coming up big so Denver you know at the end of the first half they’re up 53 to 38 and some of the numbers that jumped out to me they had a 2918 rebound advantage they had eight offensive rebounds and had the second chance point total at 14 to three in their favor in 2410 points in the paint this swung dramatically in the second half because Minnesota’s ability to defend in rebound they end up outrebounding Denver in this game well I thought that their effort it shifted right so the effort making sure that they’re doing the little things gaining position uh down low to to make sure they were putting themselves in a better position to get some of those bounces to get some of those rebounds but then on top of all that we saw this happen in the first half but they did a much better job with it in the second half and that was whenever they were starting to throw that double at yage Minnesota’s defense in that first half like the close out and the recovery on the open man shooting the spray three it ended up being a lot of Jamal Murray obviously in that first half I felt like Minnesota’s urgency wasn’t there in the second half it was just much better although it’s not like they were contesting all of these threes they were making the shooter think twice which I think helped lead to some of those missed shots by Jamal Murray and by some other players uh on this nuggets team so yeah the defense just picked up the urgency picked up uh I mean truly I don’t think they they made huge adjustments they were still doubling yish they were but they like they shifted their effort in their mindset 60- 37 in the second half in favor of Minnesota they outrebounded them 29- 15 they won the Second Chance battle 12 points to two in the second half wow so it was a total reverse and they were Relentless in the second half and then you just go up and down Denver shot just 36% four of 21 from three in the second half and big picture in this series what Minnesota’s defense has been able to do game one holding them to 99 points game two in that amazing defensive performance holding them to 80 points game six 70 points and then tonight 90 points this defense is incredible and the fact that they won three games in Denver in that place not only like hey it’s Denver the defending champs good atmosphere but the elevation all of that this is amazing growth for Minnesota when you look at the defense I think a lot of people just automatically go wow it’s because they have a rim protector and Rudy gobear and uh you know this this other big and cat oh no it’s not just it’s not just having that second line of defense which by the way sometimes that second line of defense for Minnesota being Rudy goar isn’t doing his job I think he picked it up did a much better job in the second half but you look at the perimeter pressure and you go straight to someone like McDaniels and that is someone who early on in this game got in foul trouble did exactly what he does a lot of you you you you hope as he keeps growing as a player that he can find a way to be less handsy but still remain aggressive on that defensive end because he just does a fantastic job on ball uh we already know what ant can do defensively so if he’s not making shots he can still be someone that is putting that pressure on and then also someone like Mike Conley who just is Scrappy does the little things after the 5050 balls but then had that huge steal against Jamal Murray to really um really seal the there at the end of this game and I just felt like their defensive effort all the way down the roster like got to give love right now to NAS Reed who I thought has played some shitty defense throughout this series and just looked fantastic out there even against joic had a nice block there toward the end but was just much more active and understood what his team needed from him as well some big swings and this is with cat on the bench cat picked up his fifth foul NZ Reed gets thrown in there and he had to go out there and make plays a couple of big Second Chance opportunities those are impactful especially on a run and then he had that block on yic that must have felt good Nas Reed had a major impact on the game and the fact that they could keep rolling with that it allowed them to keep that lineup out there keep catting the bench go bear get P fouls out of the game they put cat back in the close and that that’s what was interesting even when you even look at that whole situation it felt like cat was sitting out for a while and I know he was was in foul trouble but it was like the game was coming you know I mean what there was like 3 minutes left whatever however many minutes were left down the stretch and I was like when is C going to go back in but they were able to roll with what they had because the defense was good enough the offense was good enough guys were getting things done and I just felt like this was a complete team effort by the entire uh Minnesota Timberwolves yeah I I’m Blown Away by some of the moments that this defense has had this is Championship level defense you know and I I think I I also once they lost three in a row I was not feeling good about Minnesota I’m like man you go up 20 frauds I was saying frauds you’re like you go up two on the road and then you lose three straights the way that Aunt talked after every single game he said it before game seven he’s like I think we’re the better team and and he doesn’t say to just say you can tell the way that he carries himself the way that he feels about himself as a player and what he lacks in certain games or what he’s not getting done in certain games it’s not oh I got to do better and he’s saying just buzzword that leaders need to say he understands what the why and and what actually needs to be done to do better as a leader and like even tonight when his shot wasn’t falling he understood what he still needed to contribute and that wasn’t only just keeping his head up that was just doing so much more to get everyone else involved there was a lot of talk at halftime I’m in social media Charles Barkley’s talking about it bench Gober don’t play him oh yeah hey Rudy goar in the second half had 10 points he had four rebounds and he made four of five at the free throw line how about the turnaround jumper he hit oh my God shot clock winding down out of a timeout luck involved I don’t care but guess what it counts for two and then he steps the line and knocks down his free throws you know he he gets a lot of lot of a lot of around the league and some of the stuff I’m like look joic is a really tough cover you’re asking a lot and it’s funny how when joic is beating him off the dribble a lot when they’re playing up on yeah that’s that’s a tough matchup and he got the best of them but you notice what happened in the second half a lot they played off joic and said shoot the three Y and the guy missed a ton of Threes he end up hitting a couple in the fourth quarter but he had some wide open looks and I I I feel like that was a nice subtle adjustment like don’t play up on him because he’s going to potentially put the ball on the floor he’s going to try to draw contact it’s just a tough thing to deal with overall my point though is with goar I thought he had a good second half he had some nice moments he picked up some fouls but he also drew some fouls and it allowed Minnesota to be shooting free throws early in the fourth quarter I thought Denver made some undisciplined plays with their fouling too in general once they were already in the penalty where you’re going what what’s happening here you’re cring yourself foul like it was just awful him trying to do the wrap around it almost looked like it could have been a transition take foul but um yeah there’s just there’s bad decisions being made but going back to Rudy goar really quick you’re exactly right because I think when he is being on we were kind of talking about this while watching the game I’m like I think people’s expectations for him are so high as a star and they want him they have these these standards for him sometimes that if he’s not reaching those and is like you know shitty first half but much better in the second half it’s like okay well he did what he needed to do instead of celebrating like no like this is this is really good the adjustments that were made for him to contribute on the offensive end and then also being felt in the pain which is why I think Denver also went away from like so many Cutters cutting through the middle because of his presence as well yeah I look there was a play in the first half where he got thrown the ball and it was mishandled at the rim and it was just an ugly moment when the t- wols were losing but if you go back and watch a play it’s like hey ant when you’re on a break you’re probably not dishing it to goar on the right wing for him to make a move when he’s running the floor that was a putting him in a tough spot and he Tred to do something with it but of course people go oh go what are you doing and I’m like okay yeah it was tough it was an ugly first half for Minnesota but they kept battling and my point is hey if we’re going to crap on go be for for to first half let’s give some love I thought he had some good moments in the second half and for him to step up to the free throw line knock down free throws that’s significant in a close game right you got to win that battle they were 26 of 30 at the free throw line Denver just 14 of 16 just 16 free throws in this game for them Denver just a tough I I mean what a tough look like you start off the game right Jamal Murray just going off making everything he ended up finishing with 35 points but he had 24 of those points in the first half and it felt like it took him a while to score more in that second half and so it was it I I don’t understand what and why they went away from like I didn’t feel like Minnesota made all these adjustments to totally just screw with Denver’s game in that second half they definitely did things differently yes but I feel like Denver also went away from like remaining aggressive like they kind of felt like maybe they got lacad isical and like they just had it in the bag cuz they were up 15 I don’t know no I just I think Minnesota just competes and I think Denver’s problem is the problem that I think a lot of people saw is when they look really like themselves like a championship team it’s other guys stepping up right like yic and Murray you need them to be great right but the question about this team was could The Depths show up Denver got five points in their bench when their bench played well in this series it felt you felt it right Michael Porter Jr seven points this is after at six point like Michael Porter Jr gave them nothing offensively like it you can’t win games when it’s just joic and Murray and no one else it’s just not going to happen especially against a team like this and I felt like to your point you know it seemed like Denver’s others were so passive right like it felt like even when they had looks they were hesitating looking at to get it to joic or or Murray and maybe that was like Hey the pressure it’s getting tight now let’s let’s find joic let’s find Murray they’ll bail us out that but Al where was the movement without the basketball like why did they go away from like a beautiful back door cut where you know yage is going to find you like where people tired to get that extra step on people to make that extra move I don’t know what it was but I felt like the movement was stagnant I felt like they were waiting for that spray three like you said relying on Yoki J Murray to make a move and being like let me shoot this and like you said Porter went one of six from Beyond The Arc I just thought they they did a great job defensively on this Denver team like there was so many good signs and you know we should mention towns with some great defense tonight dealing with and in the series against joic you know joic is still going to get his joic had 34 19 and seven but he was 13 of 28 uh two of 10 from three in this game so oh my God it’s tough for Denver you know it’s it’s not easy to repeat one um they lost some key guys and it was fell I think when you take a step back and look at Denver situation I think they expected Brown to take a step they thought Porter was going to be more like the porter we’ve seen this season and in the past and I think they had higher hopes for other guys off their bit like pton Watson they thought was going to be a contributor this year yeah you think about how impactful Bruce Brown was for him at time last year Jeff Green you know like those guys weren’t there and it they needed the younger guys to take a jump the younger guys didn’t take a as much of a jump as I think they thought and I think too when you look at like this seven game series and there was moments where we where we’re looking at these games when the nuggets are winning we’re going okay they they have enough because joic is enough okay maybe this is enough oh they’re getting they’re getting some contributions from Brown you know 10 points from Brown they’re getting whatever from holiday you know you you’re feeling like maybe this is a good enough roster and then in games like this when too many of these games obviously happened in the seven game series it’s like you you their flaws were completely exposed as to like what a team win really is it’s you can’t just be you know load up on three guys Gordon yic Murray and expect and Gordon obviously we didn’t even talk about him but but like you can’t expect those three to just like come in and dominate this is a team sport and Five Guys you know especially in the postseason when you’re going maybe to an eight-man rotation and it felt like a team in a roster like Minnesota was capable of doing that where Denver we got to see more of those flaws Minnesota man impressive we said it when they lost three in a row how are they going to handle adversity dude they handled it in a big way winning a game seven and now we get a super compelling series oh my God wolves and Mavericks I don’t want to have expectations yet because I’m I’m so excited and it sounds like it’s going to be great but because of some of the the what ups and downs lopsided games that we saw in this series I get a little nervous but defense and defense are we gonna see like defensive battle you’ve got Stars Galore Luca and Kyrie okay I’m excited you got ant cat what’s that gonna look like oh my God I’m excited Minnesota’s legit size against Dallas who you know they got the Lively who was awesome in game six against OKC and Gafford but are they going to be able to handle cat go bear when they go big Nas Reed does Dallas have the depth to go up against them come on basketball Gods basketball Gods dude I can’t wait for this series give us something 1. Damn didn't see this one coming I was wrong bottom line better team won hats off to the Timberwolves hope they beat Dallas ass

  2. I think it’s huge that Edward’s only scored 16 but had 7 assists and Minnesota won. Understanding that he can’t win it himself so early in his career is incredible. An absolute defensive masterclass. What a second half. Just amazing.

Y’all nailed it with this piece.

  3. đŸ€”Naz Reid beats Monk now in 6th man, but Monk is kings mvp, if Monk leaves then kings are done for years🙃

  4. Kings and Wolves have been symbiotic. I get why Deuce has been anti Min after remembering that game 7 20 yrs ago. Give me a brick wall I'm finna run through it. Never seen a game of two halves to this extent in the playoffs

  5. You said it perfectly the Kings and Timberwolves have had a lot of similarities throughout the years. I thought that growing up too. I hope the kings get their shot soon.

  6. I'm old enough to know a few original 1989 franchise players from that 22 win season, this team is special. MN deserves this team after the lean years they've had. This was one helluva series, back to work on Wednesday night against Dallas!

  7. Crazy part is they went from down 20 in the early 3rd to a 1 point game entering the 4th . biggest key was ant taking the murray matchup & locking him up pretty much entire 2nd half

  8. And down goes holyfield!!! Man, to take down the best team in the league feels so good. KD book, joker murray, and now onto luka kyrie

  9. Also, Scott Foster as referee.. once heard this, a lot of Wolves felt like another layer the Wolves had to overcome.

  10. I've been watching wolves from the beginning of this year. This team is special. Due to our losing history, we didn't get much media attention. A lot of people haven't watched full game besides highlights and made assumptions. When it got to 1st round of playoffs, I felt strongly that if Wolves can beat Suns, the sky is the limit. I felt they can hang with Denver and even Celtics. They will become champ this year.

  11. That girl is good.. remember last video before game 6 ..she said wolves still have change.. anyway this why joker is MVP..to carry this team .. wolves have 2 all star dpoy and six man and good bench…

  12. This Mavs and Wolves series is going to be crazy. They only played against each other once with a healthy Mavs team in the regular season and lost (just like OKC, but they haven’t played the “new” Mavs team) so they barely have answers. They just have to look over film A LOT. They were able to shut down MPJ
let’s see who they try to shut down this time.

  13. Many Kings fans remember 2004. Kevin Garnett was a hero for Timberwolves. Now Anthony Edwatds is a Superstar type level exactly like Kevin Garnett for the Wolves if not better.

  14. Wolves need Malik Monk. Hope yall can cooperate. haha Gobert is expendable, especially for Minnesota because he turns their offense into 4 on 5 and destroys spacing which makes doubles on AE a lot easier and more effective. It's not about celebrating vs criticizing, it's just an objective evaluation.
