[Zach Lowe on the Jarrett Allen Report] If you’re gonna do that, if you’re a source within the team … come out and say it publicly… If I’m Jarrett Allen and I read that, I go right to Koby Altman’s office and say “I don’t care who said this. I want to get traded.”

Source

Here’s something that really grinds my gears:

This anonymous bulls—t that comes out after a guy doesn’t play about “sources within the team” questioning whether he should have taken the pain killer injection, questioning whether he could have played.

If you’re gonna do that, if you’re a source within the team — and it has to be a source within the team — come out and say it publicly.

You’re gonna question [Jarrett Allen’s] toughness, given that this has happened with other players where you hear this murmuring come out where they’re like “Oh this guy should be playing, he’s not toughing it out,” and then they play and then they get hurt worse.

If you’re gonna say that, put your name on it. ”I’m so-and-so from the Cleveland Cavaliers and I think Jarrett Allen could have played.” Don’t launder it through the media and have it be “anonymous sources” question Jarrett Allen’s toughness.

If I’m Jarrett Allen and I read that, I go right to Koby Altman’s office and say “I don’t care who said this. I want to get traded.”

He’s absolutely right. A team burying their own players over injuries is ridiculous.

  2. Pretty sure whoever leaked this probably wants him to get traded too

    M. Night Shamylan twist: the insider source was…Jarrett Allen.

  4. saltface14

We’ve seen so many players play through injury in the playoffs when they shouldn’t have (off the top of my head – Grant Hill and Blake Griffin in Detroit, IT for the Celtics, Timelord during the Celtics finals run) and it seemed to permanently alter their careers. Fuck the narrative that you should play through absolutely anything in the playoffs when you have the rest of your career/life ahead of you.

If it’s anything like the sources Mitchell cited then I don’t know if there’s as much validity as there was click attempts for editorials people aren’t reading.

That said, I agree and hope the leaker is moved.

Tyrod Taylor should be a tell tale sign for all pain killing injections.

The Griz have gotta be a preferred destination if they can make it work money wise

I thought ‘the Jarrett Allen Report’ was the name of a podcast

  9. nobraininmyoxygen

Why is everyone assuming it came from the front office rather than from an agent with an agenda? The front office has nothing to gain with this type of leak.

  10. How many FRPs will OKC send the Cavs to get Allen? He would help them a ton.

  11. Huge-Split6250

Allen asking to be traded is exactly what Altman needs. He and Mobley don’t work together. Mobley is untradeable.

  12. prolixotic

What did the report say? I tried searching for it on this sub and Google, but couldn’t find an article or anything.

From this bit of the podcast, I’m guessing someone in the Cavs organization thinks that Allen was healthy enough to play but chose not to do so?

  13. heatrealist

What if Jarrett Allen is behind the leaks so he can set in motion a trade demand without looking like the bad guy…..

  14. >given that this has happened with other players where you hear this murmuring come out where they’re like “Oh this guy should be playing, he’s not toughing it out,” and then they play and then they get hurt worse

[Someone in the Warriors locker room was saying similar things about KD during the 2019 finals. I will never forget that. ](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/1017348/2019/06/08/kawakami-exactly-when-the-warriors-need-kevin-durant-the-most-nobody-seems-to-know-exactly-whats-happening/)

Yeah this was insane I got so mad about it. Jarrett has done so much for this team and the community and for anyone to question that based on not wanting to take a painkiller injection and play through his injury is a fucking moron, and they’re even more of a moron for sharing that opinion in an anonymous leak

What is this afformentioned jarret allen report lol

Plot twist: the “anonymous sources” were Presti

  18. crashovernite

He was our 2nd best player this year. Played 81 games this season. The only guy who seemed to take last years playoffs loss to heart and elevated his game to be playoff ready from the jump. (Glad Mobley finally showed up, but it took him awhile)

And people still questioned him. On top of it all he said it hurt when he breathed, so you do the math on how bad it was.

F*** whoever said it, JA deserves way better and I wish him the best wherever he goes.

  19. Admirable_Strike_406

I would trade him. Now anytime Allen has any small injury he’s not going to play. You don’t need that type of guy in the playoffs

  20. Yeah that is a toxic ass report – id be pissed if I was Allen

  21. jgroove_LA

I mean isn’t it obvious it’s an agent or associate of another player on the team?

  22. jbrunsonfan

Shit like this makes you realize the kind of lifestyle these athletes live. If I had $100M of guaranteed money I wouldn’t even play through a migraine. Take pain injections so that I can spend the rest of my life with knee pain so that fat slobs can sit around and judge me a little less harshly? Fuck that no way lol. Are pain injections going to make the “lights too bright “ memes go away? Exactly fuck that lol

  23. GordonAndDenise

Big fat LOL at Zach Lowe as this man and the whole legion of NBA podcasters and gossipers will run with rumors from both real and make believed “sources” year round to get their engagement.

Lowe also assets that the source has to be a team coaching or management source and that’s simply not true as it could just as easily be player adjacent, say someone close to a Marcus Morris, Max Strus, Tristan, etc. Newer to the team vet guys who maybe felt a little bummed that in their opinion Allen wasn’t pushing as hard to find ways to return as they would have liked or as they felt they have at some point their careers

  24. 2020IsANightmare

I just don’t understand why no one takes the Cavs seriously.

  25. adamsrocket1234

Guys im from an alternate time line where Allen played and the media talked shit about for clearly being injured and hobbled and they called him selfish for not sitting out. Sources still trashed him for not listening to medical advice.

you see how dumb this fucking game is. we see this shit all the time and it’s weak as fuck. Put your fucking name on it. Don’t talk shit and say you heard it from a friend. Especially if your the dudes boss or someshit.

  26. rubberneck24

Remember when that warriors writer questioned Durants injury and toughness and then he blew out his Achilles? If a player isn’t comfortable playing they shouldn’t be forced to

  27. grumpypenguin1

Presto needs to be figuring out how he can turn Giddey and all those 1sts into Jarrett Allen
