How The Timberwolves Did The IMPOSSIBLE

okay so let’s get one thing straight just off the bat I’m not saying that they did The Impossible because they beat the Denver Nugget I thought that this team as constructed was a really tough matchup for Denver either way and that’s the reason why myself as well as a bunch of other NBA fans had the series going to seven games the way that they won that seventh game is The Impossible part going on to the defending Champions home floor going down 20 points in the third quarter and coming back to win forget just them doing this in a game seven do you know how difficult it is to go down by 20 against the defending Champions at home and still come back and win this team is absolutely ridiculous and we can have a pretty decent dialogue about what the Denver Nuggets might be planning on doing this off season that’s another conversation on its own right now we’re just talking about the Minnesota timber walls because my God what did we just watch early on in the game it definitely seemed like the plan was to let yic do his thing and try their best to ice out everybody else just out of the offense they weren’t really doing a good job of that Jamal Murray was hitting some crazy shots which you’d expect at this point this was actually looking like it was going to be the Jamal Murray game that we’ve been waiting for this entire playoffs he had 24 points in the first half eight for 15 from the field and it didn’t really look like it was that difficult for him you weren’t really getting a lot of production out of the rest of the team outside of jic who by the way had 15 boards at halftime but it didn’t really matter at that point because they were still up 15 and now their secondary offensive player in Jamal Murray is cooking Everything Changes in the third quarter while it did seem like for a good portion of at least the start of the third quarter the Minnesota timber wolves were just going to roll over they were down by 20 points 58 to 38 I’ll remember that score and de nugget fans will probably remember that score for a long time and they made some pretty key adjustments they focused well to start off they focused a lot more on rebounding in the second half but also they switched Anthony Edwards onto Jamal Murray and he played absolutely fantastic defense on Jamal Murray especially on the handoffs on the ball screens just making sure that he couldn’t really get a clean look off the entire second half it didn’t really seem like he had that much space on a lot of plays this game definitely reminded me of Kobe and I I know that he’s been getting the Jordan comparisons for this entire playoffs but this game definitely reminded me of Kobe specifically 2010 game s versus the Celtics actually shot the exact same field goal percentage 6 for 24 but I still remember Kobe when we he was talking about that game he said and I quote game seven when I wasn’t shooting the ball well at all you have to look at other areas of the game areas where you can have material impact for him in that specific situation it was rebounding cuz the Celtics were a big team that focused a lot on the glass and what do you know by the end of the game he ends up with 15 rebounds and so that was his adjustment in that game Anthony Edward’s adjustment in this game was playing smothering defense especially on Jamal Murray but he also was a pretty decent playmaker in this game as well especially when they were sending traps at him especially in the second half there were times where it seemed like he was waiting a bit too long for the trap to get there before starting to go or making a decision but I’m not really tripping out too much over that because they did create a lot of good looks especially in the third quarter off of those traps that he was getting Jaden McDaniels hit some threes Carl Anthony towns was key in this game especially when Anthony Edwards was struggling from the field there was a point where cat looked like he just said okay my guy is struggling I need to get going on offense here there was a three that he hit in the first half and just a bunch of shots in general especially in the second quarter to kind of keep the game closer than what it probably would have been and so there was that Carl Anthony towns had a fantastic second half really everybody on the Timberwolves did Jaden McDaniels he was pretty solid throughout the entire game Rudy goar was he was on absolute fraud watch the entire first half and I sort of understand where people were coming from because of the offensive liability that he was very quickly becoming but he had those types of plays especially in this the fourth quarter where you just forgot about everything he had some key blocks in the second half he had the of course the play where he catches the ball on the inbounds there’s no time on the shot clock and he just fires up a yic style fade away from about 17 ft goes about 3 miles in the air and just goes in and it’s one of those shots where you’re just like okay that that went in there’s absolutely no way they’re losing this game Mike Conley also there was a point where in the first half it seemed like he was rushing his shots a lot I actually had a tweet where I was like Mike Conley even though he’s the oldest one on the team and he’s the veteran he looks like he’s the one that’s 22 years old but definitely picked up his play in the second half hit some very key shots there was a play specifically where he had caught the ball left wing he pump fake Jamal Murray in the air and kind of stepped around him and made just a insane three to kind of give them that extra cushion and now we get to another one of the keys in the second half which of course was Nas Reed who is pretty quickly actually becoming one of my favorite players in the NBA there was a point where he just really started to pick up his level of play in the second half and and especially in the fourth quarter it was kind of like a repeat of game one almost where he’s picking up yic on the roller even just in isolation he’s blocking his shots he had two blocks in this game both of them were against Nico yic he was grabbing offensive rebounds put back dunks knocking the ball away just like everything that you can possibly want he was doing especially in in that fourth quarter and I believe I said in the last video when talking about just the craziness and the randomness of game sevens I wouldn’t have been surprised if Nas Reed or someone like Nas Reed had a crazy game and what do you know he did it but back over to the Nuggets it seemed like in the second half they were really gassed Nicole yic played 46 minutes almost 47 in this game which he never does and it really showed in the second half he was settling for jump shots a lot more than we’re used to seeing he took 10 three-pointers in game seven which is the most threes that he has taken since February 11th of 2022 and so you can definitely see how fatigue might have played a factor there was a point that Kenny made in his video where he realized that Nicole yic didn’t really get his normal third quarter rest which probably would have turned out different as that was during the point when the Timberwolves started going on their run and so I get I suppose it was just bad timing but by the end of the third quarter and by I’d say the middle of the fourth it just seemed like the Timberwolves just had more energy and they just wanted it more they were still playing crazy coverages on the pick and rolles they were still the Anthony Edwards was still Hawking Jamal Murray until the last play of the game even though they were up by eight like he literally played until the final buzzer that man should have the utmost respect from all NBA fans just everywhere because he definitely even though he wasn’t shooting the ball well at all he just made every other winning play from the steals that he was getting coming off of the Jamal Murray ball screens to the key shots that he hit first two cut the lead to one before going into the fourth quarter which undoubtedly gave them a crazy amount of momentum and then also hitting the dagger three to put them up 10 and also talking to a fan that had been I assume talking to him the entire night man this is this is just crazy Aaron Gordon Michael Porter Jr were offensive non-factors in this entire game Michael Porter Jr had seven he had a drastic fallof from his performance against the Lakers last series the Minnesota defense was definitely a different look for him and you can see it all throughout the series the only looks that he was really consistently getting were pull-up threes in transition Aaron Gordon they did a really good job of slowing him down on the rolls and just they they just played such a solid game defensively I mean that’s just the difference once again defense wins championships and I know the nuggets are going to have a lot of narratives against them in the coming days and the coming months oh they can’t beat anybody that’s not a playing Team you know just things like that we still need to recognize that this was a very good team that was one of the favorites to win the championship and that’s why Minnesota beating them is so ridiculous and insane Timberwolves versus Mavericks I know that I didn’t give the Mavericks their proper credit when I was first talking about their Series against the OKC Thunder I had the Thunder winning in five or six games depending on what happened in game two and I was obviously very wrong experience is sometimes what it comes down to and also just the rebounding and the length that Dallas had proved to be overwhelming especially when Chad left the floor but when you’re going up against this Timberwolves defense you got to think that the Dallas Mavericks are ISO heavy they are an ISO heavy offense going up against elite point of attack Defenders like Jada McDaniels Anthony Edwards nille Alexander Walker by the way with their backline defense being a mix of Rudy go bear Carl Anthony towns and Nas Reed also three bigs who are very capable of switching out onto perimeter players especially ones like Luca Donas who are a bit slower and being very Mobile on that end as well it is going to be very interesting to see how Dallas is going to deal with that because I don’t think that they are going to be able to now we can have more conversations once we actually see them face off but that’s just my prediction for now the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to the finals the Boston Celtics are going to the finals if the Boston Celtics somehow lost to the Indiana Pacers then my God that needs to be the biggest conversation of all time but it shouldn’t happen but that’s about it for me I hope 1. Don't know what is so "IMPOSSIBLE" about beating the Denver Nuggets, tbh…they were a team with only one All-starā€”that being their franchise player Jokicā€”going up against a team with 2 current All-stars in Edwards and Towns, the current 6th Man of the Year in Reid and current DPOY in Gobert.

  2. Down by 20ā€¦ in the third quarterā€¦ on the roadā€¦. In the playoffsā€¦. Against the reigning champsā€¦.. game 7ā€¦..
