Dan Patrick: Nuggets Depth Exposed In Game 7 Loss To Timberwolves | 5/20/24

now with the basketball I turned the game off at halftime I thought the nuggets at home double digit lead they should win this game they did not they got shut down in the second half you had two nuggets who showed up you had Joker Jamal Murray the reason why they lost is Michael Porter Jr did not play well at all Aaron Gordon played over 40 minutes and had four rebounds and four points I said at the outset of the series I didn’t think this was a great team they didn’t have depth and you got two great games out of Joker and Jamal Murray give credit to the Timberwolves because they went in and it’s not sexy they played defense Anthony Edwards you know when you want to be a great player it’s not just I scored 40 it’s I’m not scoring now how can I help the team he took over guarding Jamal Murray in the second half little things big difference there and uh Minnesota so game seven on the road at altitude and you’re facing the defending champs and they win but I’ll go back to what we talked about at the beginning I said I wouldn’t be surprised if they won and also if you want to make comparisons stylistically to Michael Jordan then you can’t be surprised if Anthony Edwards comes back and wins like you can’t all of a sudden lose the confidence in him that he’s like Michael Jordan then all of a sudden they end up losing three in a row now all of a sudden he’s not Michael Jordan I said it doesn’t work that way you have to have the confidence in him that he can still be you know a Reincarnation of Michael Jordan at least the embryonic stages and people jumped on the bandwagon thought Minnesota was going to sweep Denver jumped off the bandwagon jumped on the Nuggets bandwagon well they’re going to repeat now to then jumping off the Nuggets bandwagon and jumping on Minnesota’s bandwagon here is Mike Malone the head coach of the nuggets how hard is it just to absorb a loss like this after after going ahead by 20 next question man the season’s over that’s what’s hard being up 20 the season’s over you don’t understand that the season’s over it’s hard stupid questions all right Mike come on you can’t have it both ways here like you want to be the tough guy you’re you’re calling out all the analysts oh yeah I’m clipping this off everybody said we’re going to get swept this is a job that the reporter has and really it’s a harmless question you all you need to do is just sort of answer it move on batter it away but instead of calling him out I mean I get it you’re disappointed but this reporter is doing their job there so I was embarrassed for him here is uh the Joker after the loss it’s hard because the teams are more hungrier better talented uh than last year probably everybody get better everybody wants to beat us probably that’s my thought process probably yeah he played well now he’s the one who’s going to be singled out because oh lost the game at home got blown out in game six you lost in game seven now I did point out the point spread was surprising I think Denver was only favored by four which I thought okay somebody knows something here and but it feels like you know we’re going to look big picture at the Joker of where he is now and the best 20 players of all time because if he had won if you have three MVPs and two titles you go down through history of anybody who has that combination of five now you’re in the top 15 all time Joker this isn’t on him he’ll get the blame he’s the star uh he’ll take ownership of that but this is really about his teammates who let him down there are already calling for Michael Porter Jr III to be traded and he played horribly last night now he’s had a few things on his mind off the court with you know two of his brothers in trouble but he even said look you know I’m not going to use that as an excuse but Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter who had played well really well as a as a starting five they had the best starting five well when two of the you know three two of the five are not playing well it’s up to the other three two of those guys played well but you don’t have a bench like you did last year and that’s what they’re going to have to address in the off season

Dan Patrick recaps the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminating the Denver Nuggets from the NBA playoffs after winning game 7 of their Western Conference Semifinals matchup

  1. DEFENSE IS SEXY, Dan.

People remember 85 Bears, 00 Ravens, Legion of Boom… and the 24 Timberwolves.

  2. When they win it’s all Joker, when they lose it’s murray / AG/ MPJ / KC / reggie/ Braun / Jordan / coach Malone fault

It reminds me of how lebron used to get treated, smh. They're the only two players I see get this coddling. Teams tailor made for them but they don’t have “enough help “ .

The better team won . It was a 7 game series it could’ve gone either way . Some teams just matchup better than others.

  3. I agree Malone came off like a douche-nozzle in the press conference. However, the whole thing about clipping videos of analysts…..Dan is doing the same thing Barkley did when talking about that. He wasn't calling any of the analysts out….he was using it as motivation for his team. He literally said if he were an analyst and watched those first 2 games he would have said the same things himself. How is that "calling out" people?

  4. There is a reason Murray was exposed as such a punk in this series. When you have the coach act and talk that way, your player will be the same. Jokic is too classy to ever be like that.

  5. It was those fucking 3s they kept shooting. In the 3 games Denver won, they shot no more than 30 while the 4 they lost had them shooting their most 3s.

  6. Joker is not going to be singled out. He played well and did what he could, as did Murray. Porter, Gordon, the bench, AND MALONE are the ones that played poorly or made poor decisions.

  7. Wait how are Pacers boring? Iso ball is boring, what the Pacers are doing breaking assists records and with TJM off the bench and all the dunks are the most beautiful basketball in the nba, you can’t be watching.

  8. Wow. Talk about a lack of respect for the Wolves. Dan’s take is that Denver lost it. No, Dan. Minnesota TOOK it. Did you see Jaden McDaniels’ D all game long? He stuck to the Nuggets like white on rice. Did you see Ant shut down Jamal Murray in the second half? Did you see Naz Reid and KAT and Rudy make life a living hell for Joker? The Wolves are LEGIT. Pay attention…or don’t talk basketball during the show. You’re embarrassing yourself.

  9. I'm sad the Nuggets lost and exposed their lack of depth (Bruce Brown would have been great!), but I'm rooting for T-Wolves to get their first franchise chip! They got solid core and defense wins championships.

  10. What an amazing collapse. They had no bench and no killer instinct in the second half. Murray being careless with the ball late is hilarious. Jokic did all he could. Naz Kat and McDaniels were amazing down the stretch. Killer Mike is so clutch for the Wolves. Can’t wait for game one at Target Center.

  11. Could not imagine Dan turning off the TV of a meaningless regular season NFL game if one team was up by 21 points at halftime. But he does so in a game 7 of the NBA playoffs?

  12. The coach for the Nuggets was really cocky and arrogant when he was winning. Now he's kind of a sore loser, calling out the journalist for asking a simple, legitimate question?

  13. As a longtime MN fan, i want to give respect to Jokic (1 of my fav players). He deserved the MVP this year. But MN is the best team in the NBA, hands down. Ive been telling people this all year and got laughed at for it.

  14. Micheal porter jrs family is falling apart so I don’t blame him for not being focused on basketball

  15. It took 7 games to get your depth exposed?…im not saying it didn't but if it took that long to get exposed and you were able to go that long without depth, then how important is depth really? I've always thought depth was overrated come playoff time…if anyone got away with no depth it was NY.

  16. DESIRE trumps Ego. Ego is VOLUME, not substance.

The sense of volume & ego in the NBA today is deflating the TRUE product. As an old-school Celitics fan, these Wolves will SAVE the NBA from itself & Lebronish "entitlement". Go Wolves. Bird & Jordan would approve! GREAT TEAM WIN! Can people begin to appreciate Edwards' PASSING? And Gobert is a STUD. TEAM win.

Dan Patrick is DEAD on about Malone's weak comments. Fans want THIS! DESIRE & EFFORT, NOT EGO & "NARRATIVE"…😮

  17. I was proud of Towns playing defense against the Joker. He played his best game ever…when it counted most! He stood tall and strong in the post against a great great center in Jokic. My father used to talk about Russel like that…he’d give his team whatever they needed to win. He was fabulous! A little bit of everything…and strong. Nice job.

  18. I think Denver nuggets partied to hard the night before cause they probably thought that they had this one in the bag. In the end they didn't, they lost and have no one to blame but themselves.
