shabby no complaints did you watch some basketball I did yeah a lot of basketball rip to espo nugget ESO is the kiss of death can we just for five minutes not even 5 Seconds a little bit I know eso’s not on this showy wait wait wait espo you need to come around here and show everybody your lovely shirt though oh man oh look at that right there wherever where you are he’s got the dmvr shirt winning is fun and losing sucks especially sucks when you do an engage seven oh no Dam know sh oh my go that what point in time do we need to seriously consider esos Jinx on specifically our team I’m not trying to throw ESO under the bus but like when do we need to take this seriously I’ve been there I’ve been there for half a decade now yeah do we need to implement some type of rule where Espo’s not allowed to wear Sun’s gear next season and see if it helps I think maybe once the playoffs come around we need him to become a fan of the other team and then I think I think we might be safe okay just put him in like Timberwolves gear or you know whoever we play round yeah reverse it I’m just saying I feel like at a certain point in time we might have to we have to switch things up somehow we might have to lean yeah something I don’t know something I don’t I’m just saying I’m not saying I’m just saying I’m just saying it’s worth a try it’s it is but that game last night was pretty uh intense yeah did you guys expect this as outcome you didn’t you had nuggets in seven I had nuggets in seven yes I I did not I I’m I’m going to stop I’m going to stop hold on didn’t I tell you on oad I I made the pick I told you Minnesota’s gonna win game seven you thought that they were gonna come back from 20 points in the third quarter like that I told you before the game I said I think Minnesota can win this game and I oh yeah I mean it wasn’t looking like that for yeah two and a half quarters and then yeah that was crazy I thought they were still in it at halftime even though they were down 15 I thought thought they had a couple missed opportunities but I didn’t once they went down 20 I didn’t see that type of dramatic reversal the way that it was 42 to9 run at one point insane 30 point swing that was crazy what a response I mean I think the Nuggets specifically yic just kind of ran out of gas they did didn’t he only have two minutes off basically the whole game one minute one minute in the first half that was it again like I think you know what’s so funny is the whole skipping steps thing and now the steps are broken um which I love so much so much I I’m reeving in it um is the fact that you know they this team was built off of basically going seven deep um and then they tried to run that back this year even though they lost uh you know another key cog in in Bruce brown but they tried to make it up for it by committee and it just uh you saw them get gassed yesterday and that’s that’s some of the downfall if you don’t go deep and you don’t have a deep enough bench and also man I I severely underestimated Minnesota maybe it’s because I didn’t really pay much attention to him during the regular season and the times I did pay attention to them was against us and we just murdered them during the regular season I that that length and that defense is just on another level when they’re all clicking and you saw that towards the second half they imposed their will on on Denver and Denver had no chance it felt like Jamal Murray was struggling trying to get get around certain screens even though he had a lot of points great cool but in that second half you could tell it was it was hard for him to try and get shots off um and got picked him a couple times you know so it was just give credit to Minnesota i’ i’ I’d rather give more credit to Minnesota than than laugh at Denver for falling apart the way they did because Minnesota deserves every little bit of respect because they have been balling their asses off yeah I don’t I I mean listen I don’t look at Denver as falling hard man Minnesota just played one of the best halfs of basketball I’ve ever seen defensively I mean they they got at it man and yeah we we definitely underestimated this basketball team and they’re deep and they’re energetic and they play well and they play together and well coached um saw a little bit of that with the Pacers I mean that that was F it was very a lot of fun watching those two games S I enjoyed every minute of it and it’s cool for the NBA the NBA is wide open again I think feels like it’s wide open again the days of just penciling in a couple teams um that’s out the window especially with all this new cap structure it’s super unfortunate uh the Timberwolves because they’re kind of likable they’re very likeable when you sweep my team it’s like H this moral dilemma this internal struggle we’re going with here because last night like I laughed so hard when we saw the whole the reporter who was like you know they say the whole thing in the NBA to win a champion ship you got to get beat bad and Cat and ant are over here like we lost last year we lost the year before damn we’ve been losing for 20 years what do you want from us and I’m like that’s hilarious true no they’re they’re very likable they’re a young team on the rise like they’re they’re legit like what we were saying after the sun series they’re legit they proved it in this series and and to do it after going up 20 and then giving up three straight and being on the ropes um yeah it’s easier to respond at home for game six but then to do it on the road game seven down 20 against the defending champs like that’s a hell of a team that’s a hell of a response from them so kudos to them I know it probably doesn’t make a ton of suns fans feel better about what happened in the first round but it is a little validating to at least know that you lost to a legitimate team that just knocked out the defending champs yeah I don’t I don’t I don’t take any pleasure in the fact that Minnesota Advanced or didn’t Advance it didn’t really matter to me in regards to the Suns but I will say this I knew that game was over when Rudy goar was hit turn around Fade Away jump shots I was like what the Y the air got sucked out that building when he hit that shot bro when I’m I’m watching I’m like oh boy these guys are definitely yeah that’s crazy he did that he did he did it down in the shot clock and ones against us yeah Fade Away bang shot and ones also oh my God Denver can we please box out holy [ __ ] I swear there was like 11 offensive rebounds that L directly the points in that fourth quarter alone especially when they were up by five and I’m sitting there I’m like man they better box out man is crucial and then and then EV Reggie’s on The Telecast like all right if you’re the Nuggets you gotta box out brick put back dunk and then they followed it up with another three in the corner to ant game over I’m like man these dudes to me the two big plays with with all the nas Reed follow up tip dunk and then car Towns at the end with like a minute left where it was still it was a five-point game and he followed up with that dong man it’s impressive it’s impressive what Minnesota’s doing and I’m I’m happy for them that fan base is really good they deserve that so here’s my question so we talked about you know would it would it feel better if the you know the Minnesota timber swept the Nuggets like they swept the Suns or just Advance what if man I really don’t want to say this out loud but I’m going to because I like chaos what if they win a championship how are we going to feel about that I mean listen we we’re a mess so like I I feel like I can’t be like mad at the Timberwolves for sweeping us because one yes they deserve the credit but also we were just a mess it feels like this past season and I’m hopeful for next season because we got all that out of our way um but like I’m not really holding on to too much of that I don’t think because I feel like we were just a m I think it again I think it’s two things can be true at once I think if you’re the Suns you can feel slightly better if like the Timberwolves go on to win a championship like yeah it matters that you lost to the best team in the NBA this year in the playoffs when it mattered most but it can also be true that like okay the goal is to win a championship so if you came up short it doesn’t matter who you came up short against you still came up short and to come up short in a sweep there’s still is work to be done so I think both of those things can be true and to be honest I think they will be true no matter what min s does from here because to me just beating the nuggets in the second round in a game seven like that’s a huge accomplishment in of itself so I do feel like yeah you lost to a good team but guess what you have to beat good teams if you want to win a title you’re not just going to Breeze your way to a title so more work has to be done yeah the narrative about feeling better I’ve never I never said I was gonna feel better with any outcome Minnesota has but you there’s context behind it man like you know the sweep uh you got work to do but if you lost to the eventual NBA champion I mean it definitely makes that sweep a little bit more tolerable or digestible because it’s like okay we didn’t Lo we didn’t get swept by a team that got annihilated in the next round we got Sweat by a team that did some unbelievable [ __ ] like going to game seven down 20 in Denver and beat the defending champs and then got to a finals and and got it done so yeah I mean it definitely changes the context of it I think uh the only thing that would bother me is what the chat is bringing up that Aunt would win a championship before a book yeah I mean somebody’s gonna win a championship before book this year that’s you could it’s gonna be Halle bur it’s gonna be Tatum it’s gonna be but the ant thing is that’s true we are at the point where somebody is somebody gonna win it’s gonna be Luka T pick your poison somebody’s gonna win a champion would rather it be halber of course no but then but then you’re going to have the people to say drafted that kid if it’s Luca it’s the dude you passed up at number one if it’s halberton it’s the dude you passed up at number 10 if it’s Tatum it’s the dude that’s constantly compared to book and if it’s ant it’s the new guy that’s constantly compared to book no matter yeah the the number four on that list as far as like how much it burn it hurts I I always forget this too uh it’s really scary to think man the Warriors really passed up on Ant yeah yeah wow could you imagine that Squad no no they didn’t no he didn’t he didn’t he went w the war wise no they took they pass up on lamelo they passed up on lamelo you’re right you’re right my bad my bad my bad I don’t know that would have been oh my gosh that would how are you guys feeling though about these finals the SE or the Western and Eastern Conference Finals I got Timberwolves in six and I got Celtics in six okay that’s exactly what I got okay exactly what I got Timberwolves and six Celtics and six and you know what when I’m looking at the matchups I do think that the I do think that the Mavs are a little bit of a different breed that Minnesota’s going to have to go up against as opposed to what they saw the first two rounds um you know they have multiple bigs that can attack you and can Elevate um and I think that helps the Mavs so I’m going to go with Dallas so why not continue to doubt Minnesota um yeah I got the MAV Celtics in the in the finals okay Luka winning his first championship oh [ __ ] man and I can sleep peacefully at night cuz I don’t give a [ __ ] I do list I thought I thought that the whole plan was for Luca to not win a championship so that he’s not wanted to hang with the Mavs and he was gonna come join book in this and the Suns in 2026 I thought we had already discussed this list if I had to pick if if I had to pick who I want to win I want if the most likely one I think is Boston yeah because Tatum Tatum is already proven like he’s already equal what book has done he’s been to a finals the year after book and so on and so forth so four out of six Eastern Conference Finals Tatum’s been knocking on the door so long that if that’s the one guy that gets it before book it’s to me that’s not a big deal it would hurt if it were Luca or Anthony Edwards less with halberton but definitely I think Tatum is the guy I’m rooting for to get it done but I will say I think Minnesota playing Denver helps them against Dallas because to me you’re facing Denver again slightly different conversion I mean you got Jamal Murray and Joker you got Kyrie and and Luca for me Luca and the Joker are the same dudes ones the guard ones a center but they do very similar things so I think having that match up with Denver is going to help them going into depth of Dallas is far different than Denver the debt they got they got the debt but I think Denver had the experience and the pedigree so you you balance it out a little bit but you’re right experience means dick when you’re playing the Timberwolves all we can say that now say that after the after game seven yeah you’re right I I listen what they did in game seven versus Denver is impressive so I don’t know that the Mavericks are gonna be able to put that much and they got home court so if they go up 20 real quick I don’t know that Dallas can win three in a row like Denver did yeah that’s that’s my only thing so two things from the chat first Mark said why does it matter if someone wins a championship before someone else I’m a Sons fan but not that petty I don’t think it’s necessarily about being petty it’s about the narratives that will then start to be attached to said player and we won’t all appreciate that when it comes to Devon right like it’s it’s really that not that we will buy into it by any means but it just kind of bothers you a little bit right it’s like only we can pick on our own little siblings nobody else can you know what I mean see these are the ones I hate the the Zeus these are the ones I don’t like why like I I don’t agree with that at all why we need to accept that is the already passed book how because he continues on to say zo says Ant-Man is still five years from his Prime and already taking the league by storm yeah no I I listen if Ant-Man doesn’t get through the Western Conference finals are you still saying that you got to let the whole thing play out you that n i don’t agree with that at all it’s his opinion no it it’s true but I just I just don’t agree with it we also got a super chat from psycho blue and psycho blue said basketball cthulu thinks Denver finally faced a non-playing team that didn’t lose starters in a series and the inevitable happened Glen Taylor about to get that last laugh y’all act like if we were in that role and we won a championship you would be diminishing your own Championship hell no I don’t care how we get it I don’t care if it was in the bubble I don’t care if we were playing a bunch of JV high schoolers I give a [ __ ] I won a title I don’t care how they got it good for them for getting it because they took advantage unlike we did we didn’t take advantage we had the same route we could have done the same exact thing but we lost to that team where they are in the East I think those four teams we could pretty safely assume would not want to be like especially because Dallas they want to keep Luca I think the Celtics they’re great team wise I think just or wait we already said the Thunder sorry Thunder I would kind of go back to the Nuggets a little bit you don’t think that they’d have any some questions after this no they have the best player in the world yeah I mean outside of yoke of course but I meant more like like trading spots like I do you want to be swep in the first round versus get second in the game seven ah we’re good yeah they’re good I would say nuggets and thunder are in that category as well I think the Thunder have an MVP candidate I think they have young players that are on very nice salaries that are only going to get better at some point you’re going to have to pay all these dudes which is what I have question marks about but I think for now you would like that situation too yeah I mean the clear two for me absolutely unequivocally is Boston and Denver they won’t do anything uh the next two I would say is Minnesota OKC I think they’re so young and and what they got is so Dynamic that they they wouldn’t want to mess with that I struggle with Dallas and the Pacers I know they’re in the final four and so yeah they’re going to say we went farther than Suns why the hell would we switch up but there’s two teams that going to get knocked out in a week and we if we revisit this and we see how that plays out that may change everything so I’m not completely sold on Dallas and the Pacers yet you think you think Dallas would want to swap places with with Phoenix well again I want to see how the series plays out if they get swept in the damn Western Conference Finals maybe yeah maybe yeah maybe you think that they would like to give up Luca and Kyrie for Booker and KD and B okay what about the rest of the roster though what dog I’m just asking I’m asking this is this is the exercise no I I know I get it I’m I’m saying I I to Matt isp’s Point there’s he said there’s 26 other teams that would that would do it um I I do think that Dallas is they’re playing well um I need to see how it plays out I I like I said if they flop out this in this round yeah I think there’s a there’s a thought process and and again I think this is another part of it when you think about swapping you’re talking about Kevin Durant Devin Booker and bradby I know it wasn’t a great year but that amount of talent I mean you’re you’re you got Luca and you got Kyrie you got some depth there but is it really who who on that g give me a Dallas guy that you’re like in love with besides luk and Kyrie I like what PJ I like I like a lot of their pieces they’ve always had Tim Hardway J’s been playing really good from the perimeter he’s always been a he killed us two years ago like they have a good deep team and they have some young players on that team and Josh Green Lively like you got some Talent there so man if I there was there’d be no [ __ ] way I would trade Dallas for Phoenix if I was I wish we would trade Phoenix for Dallas oh boy W I mean seriously that team is good there solid they’re in the westerns finals I don’t care if they lose by 20 every game and get swept like they’re in a better position than the suns are so why would why I don’t I don’t get why the big three is cool like that’s a great concept but you have to see it you have to see it work and we haven’t seen how did you feel about Minnesota last year I thought they were dog [ __ ] right in the same damn team and now they’re in the Conference Finals on their team and they I’m saying I’m saying this is what I’m saying we we’re stuck in a moment like the pho the Phoenix Suns didn’t have a great year this year okay long term though let’s talk about like just the next four years which one would you rather have uh I mean long term i k will be 40 you still would stick with the Mavs no you we’re not doing long term that’s not the exercise if you’re saying long term talking about I’m talking about right now I’m talking about right now like today today today so you threr cord’s finals out the door and say I’d rather be swept in the first round I think I think okay I think it’s fair to say like with the moves that Dallas made at the trade dead I want to see what Dallas does in the Conference Finals before I start making Dallas this Juggernaut I I think it’s fair to say but the Suns aren’t a juggernaut that’s the problem I didn’t say they were Jal say they were sorry I think it’s fair to say that with the moves that Dallas made at the tra at the trade deadline that like they got significantly better they got more role players I think than the Suns currently do but I also think it’s fair if you want to be an optimist to say like yes the big three didn’t work it’s also year one of the big three and they played not even 50 games together so I need to see more of it I’m not like to your point the Timberwolves The Narrative about them was they gave up the farm for Rudy gobear what a terrible decision this year now they’re in the Conference Finals could make it to the finals same thing with the mths just at the start of the Season we were saying this is going to implode this is going to be terrible and what did they do they made moves at the trade deadline to shore up positions of depth and now they’re in the Conference Finals I don’t I think you can look at the Suns and say yeah the second tax apron that’s going to hold them back that’s different from what some of these other teams were able to do but I do think that there is something to they could be better than we’re than people are expecting right now we could be more down on the Suns right now than we will be when the next season starts and they’ve had more time together they have a different coach maybe they Shore up some of the I want to revisit this G time I want to revisit this whole [ __ ] conversation after the Conference Finals and I’m going to bring it up next year too because again again no again I I I didn’t say that I would absolutely I said I have to think about the Pacers in Mavericks I didn’t say that I wouldn’t do it I said those four are definitely I wouldn’t do it the four I mentioned and then I said the Pacers and the Mavericks I want to see how things play out if the Mavericks go on and win a damn Championship then yeah I I I would say no but but if they get annihilated in the Conference Finals and then next year the Phoenix Suns get it together yeah this is why I don’t I don’t just make irrational comments we’re we’re sitting here talking about something like as if this is the first thing that’s H like okay to your point let me go back rewind back okay um Kyrie and Katie got traded to these new teams last year roughly around the same time what a week apart from each other okay so technically on paper their two superstars had just as much time as our two superstars um to figure this out right and on on paper we got a third piece that was better than any of their third pieces that got added to the mix and I get the 50 games and stuff like that sure but they were able to figure it out and they figured out what their team was all about and what they needed and they got those pieces at the trade deadline to add to it which helped get them to where they are right now whereas we went the other way and we got pieces but they didn’t really they didn’t really do too much for us in the long run and and here we are sitting here swept versus them in the conf but the narrative ain’t over yet like you’re you’re you’re making your comments like what the suns are right now is what the [ __ ] they are I’m telling you that the Dallas Mavericks have improved despite having added the same circumstance that the suns were a year ago so yeah they the Dallas Mavericks are in the Western Conference Finals dog that’s that’s how far they’ve improved they’re there I need to see more I need to see more like again and and again we’re talking about switching franchises the whole [ __ ] thing like I’m saying if you’re going to just look at the Suns this year and make that decision so easily the Dallas Mavericks are clearly better than the Phoenix Suns I I I don’t get that that I’m I’m not with that I I got to see more well see I thought I had a feeling this conversation was going to be bigger than what we had I just thought it was going to be more we might have to put a pin in this and come back and revisit it a little bit later but uh we are going to be how are you today I’m I’m good guys how are you doing well you know hopefully better after this conversation maybe we’ll find some things that we could be a little bit more excited about with where the Suns currently sit um but that kind of leads me into my first question Bobby just can you help me understand how on Earth CJ McCollum and Grant Williams let these second tax apron restrictions happen in the first place yeah that’s a probably a question probably a lot of people want to answer would like to answer I think I think where the league was looking um the and not speaking for the player association or for CJ or for for Grant I think the other option is you were probably looking at some type of hard cap um a real hard cap where you really were going to basically forc to choose what players you wanted to keep on your roster so if it was you know with with Devin and Kevin then maybe you know you probably wouldn’t been able to do a Bradley Beal type trade um so this is a little bit of a a softer blow I I I think where this is right now and certainly after a year of digesting it and we’ll see you know all these new restrictions starting it really forces you um to keep your own player or or prioritize keeping your own PR players um and then eliminating what you can add from the outside I mean that’s that’s the reality as far as um you don’t really get a get out of jail free card like maybe you did a couple years ago to to maybe make a trade where you can take back 125% of salary um these new rules um you really have to like your roster you really have to like your roster you really have to hit on um maybe some whether it be draft picks Lo low cost players guys on minimum deals um you know B Boston can can get away with it you know right now and you have um you know Brown on a brown about to start on a supermax and then Tatum but eventually you’re gonna have to pay Derek white so you’re gonna have to figure out there but you have Sam Hower who’s on a minimum contract so it kind of balances out but yeah these these new rules are um extremely extremely um restrictive I I was talking to A team out in Chicago and they said to me um you know my owner asked me can I still make trades you know and and I said to him yeah I can but now it’s like four steps right it’s like a four-step process am I triggering the apron am I sending out cash am I um aggregating contracts all these different nuances that that just weren’t there beforehand um so when you put pen to paper last uh April it looked good but now I think you’re going to start feeling a big big time squeeze here I uh I’m a little frustrated because even as the day it was signed yeah I couldn’t believe it I was like wait doesn’t this hurt veterans down the road and it just doesn’t make any sense with that being said how come there wasn’t any you know maybe some maneuvering in terms of the way the NBA cap does work in ter in terms of you know throwing in uh contracts uh being you know wav and and extended so that way extended for a longer period of time at a lower rate maybe or maybe some type of other exceptions that you could use as as a franchise like they have in other leagues yeah I mean we had the amnesty Clause at one time um that that was in 200 um 2011 CBA um there was the amnesty clause and we used it in in um in New Jersey we had signed Travis out uh Travis Outlaw the year before and then you know 8 million back then was was a lot of money and we wind up using the amnesty clause on him and it would basically wiped his you still have to pay him but it wiped his number off um and that’s when a new CBA came in so it kind of gave you that Financial flexibility to hey maybe you have one bad contract on your roster to kind of shed it um the wave and stretch provision um how it is right now it is certainly limited right so if you have a I’m trying to give an example let’s say you have a player on your roster who’s got a year left well the most years is three years that you could stretch it um so you’re you’re kind of limited as far as you know I you’d love to stretch it over six or seven years um it’s different than the NFL where you can restructure contracts um you can’t do that in the uh in the NBA basically it’s a buyout as far as buyout reducing the cost there um so yeah the rules are and I mean 90% of these contracts are guaranteed I mean that’s the other thing there is that we live in a league where most contracts are guaranteed um so as I said said like you better like whoever you sign um whoever you trade for um you better like who they are and you better hope that fits and that’s the D you know free agency is you know is a crapshoot because it’s I always call it like the honeymoon period right like what looks good on paper uh maybe doesn’t always translate there and um you know I’m not not saying what you know Phoenix was what was able to do like I liked like you can go back and everything I’ve written I liked what they did like I really did like I I like the Durant trade I understood like and you guys have a better perspective like where they were with that roster and I think you kind of maybe hit had hit a limit there certainly when you get your the Dallas series probably exposed a lot of things um that game seven how it ended I understood the be trade probably my only um argument against that would I I would loved to have him eliminate the no trade clause as part of the deal like I would have loved to seen that but you know that’s hindsight um and I understood why they did that you know basically because these new rules were about to start um within you know in a year and it’s like you know it’s why Boston went out and got holiday why the Clippers went out and got Harden why all these Lillard in Milwaukee you had a timeline to go out and and and do these uh do these deals here um and I understand where Phoenix is as far as you know continuity and everyone says well you got to break up these three guys no you don’t like you this is who you are right like this is who you are for right now and you got to kind of have to uh to see it through here so um but yeah I get it like I wish some of the rules were like the NFL where maybe you can rest R structure contracts or maybe you can um you know you would love to re restructure the Bradley Beal contract where you say you know what we’re going to limit we’re going to reduce your 50 million number to 30 and then we’re going to give you a um deferred compensation you know four years from now where you know if you’re not on a roster that $20 million will still be owed back to you yeah I wish it was the NFL too Bobby so so I got a question Bobby um about we all know the suns are over the second apron I have a question about some of the contracts going into the summer for instance Eric Gordon uh you know Drew Eubanks he has they got player options we got cap holdes on Royce O’Neal are those player options and cap holdes calculated into the second apron uh and how does that work um are they already pre-calculated or does something have to happen for them to count towards the second April yeah so the player the guys with the player options and there’s a bunch of them right with uh with Eubanks and Gordon and okoi and Lee um you know that that group of guys considering that they are under contract still um those count right so you’re that is determined as salary um what doesn’t count right now until that player is signed is your first round pick okay I mean I still factored in there just in case you do keep that first round picks don’t count until they’re signed uh Royce O’Neal doesn’t count cap hold doesn’t sign uh doesn’t count here um so there are you know mechanisms there that you do have I guess a little bit of flexibility I would I would recommend um if you were in if I was in Phoenix with some of these guys with free agents I think okoi and Lee are a little bit different because they were signed with uh with non- bird rights and their numbers a little bit higher I would tell Eric bord and I would tell Drew Eubanks to opt out of your contract okay and to go out and shop for a deal and if you can come back um if you can get a sign a deal no team great and if not we’ll have a minimum waiting for you but what happens is because those guys sign these two-year deals you’re not getting charge the uh two years of service number so for example like Eric’s number is like at three in change his number would now be like $2.1 million so he would still get the three but because it’s a one-year deal now it lowers his number from a cap hit and it helps you at least towards the apron and who knows maybe there is a deal down the road where you know I don’t think that’s the priority of ownership to you know we have to save we have to get under you know $6 million but you never know down the road if that that could help you there huh that’s fascinating um Bobby this is a question we saw that in real quick we Montes Harold did that in Philadelphia he opted out last year um he tested the market he eventually came back and instead of Philly having like a $2.8 Million number was like at 21 and it helped it played a role when they were able to go get do the Harden trade as far as the ability to take back some more money absolutely Bobby this is one we’ve gotten a lot of questions about in terms of when the new league year starts exactly um especially as a team that’s eliminated from the playoffs was it at that point is it on July 1 when the League’s New Year starts so can you tell the people when do these second tax apron restrictions come into play for Phoenix yeah so it started it started the Monday after the regular season was over the first day of the offseason here for of some of these harsher restriction rules so if you’re if you’re Phoenix and you’re in the in the second apron now you’re um if you wanted to go out and make a trade right now the inability to aggregate contract so if you wanted to send uh nerkish and n and little out for like a $24 million dollar guy you can’t do that um the inability to take back more money it’s basically dollar for dollar now you can you can take back contracts that are aggregated from the other team okay so if you want to send out one guy and take back two you’re allowed to uh to do that uh the inability to send out cash in a trade so if you’re um if you’re Phoenix the night of the draft you can’t go out and buy a pick I mean you do have a first round pick um so of course the um you can’t use your Taxman level exception um you know you could sign buyout guys in the offseason there’s no restriction on buyout guys that’s only during the regular season as far as that rule comes into place as far as going about doing that and and what’s going to happen is um how it impacts teams is I’ll give you an example Minnesota for right now so Minnesota finished the regular season not in the apron right neither apron they’re below the luxury tax but come July 1 Anthony Edwards McDaniels Conley cat supermax they’re gonna their salaries are going to balloon over the second apron so if they made a deal when their season is over they send out cash in a in a in a deal they can do that okay because their their salaries do not are not right now it’s for 20 starting July one however it would trigger the apron rules so they would get to July 1 like wait a minute Phoenix you sent out $2 million you can’t exceed this amount you’ll have to make a trade now to reduce your numbers below that here but yeah I mean I think I think that the the common misconception and certainly because Phoenix has three guys on Max contract like they’re not the only one like they’re not the only one here like you mean we put out these graphic after each team loses in the playoffs and like Denver Clippers I mean there’s like there’s G be there’s going to be a potentially a third of the league that are going to be either APR in or first team even teams like Memphis people are like Memphis how’d that happen well when you’re picking seventh and you got a first round pick or you’re Portland and you got seven and 14 and you’ve got Eon and Jeremy Grant and Brogden and Robert Williams and Simons and all these different things like the stuff adds up here so um Phoenix is not the only team that’s kind of in this in this spot right now okay Bobby the real question here that everyone wants to know are there some loopholes that we just haven’t quite figured out yet so for example right is there a realistic way that the Suns could maybe get under the second apron by hypothetically uh unloading Yousef nage $8.1 million contract to a team that maybe that can just absorb that contract and not take something back for the Suns and if so would they no longer be bound by those second apron limitations like are there some loopholes we can with no no that’s that’s that’s a that’s a treasure question I mean like yeah so you could you could go out and do something like that so we’re looking at I don’t know somewhere between six and seven teams that have cap space this offseason um you’ve got to spend it how the new rules are you’ve got to spend 90% of the salary cap by the first day of the regular season so if you’re if you’re Philadelphia and you’ve got 60 whatever million to spend you’ve got to spend you know 127 million um up to the cap Detroit’s another team um San Antonio um Utah orl like there’s a list of teams out there so would it cost you would you have to add something to it I don’t know I mean it depends on how that team values a nerk it so once you go under right so you knock that 16 17 million dollar once you’re under then you’re under then you’re you’re a team that is operating as a first a a team or or just a luxury tax team here so there is like kcp in in Denver is an example kcp has got a player option for next year Denver is considered a second apron team he Ops out he goes elsewhere they go under you know the I think the first maybe even the first and second apron and then all of a sudden the all these resources that are weren’t available to you the ability to aggregate contracts the ability to take back more money that now becomes available to you so with that being said loophole number two uh if they were somehow to get into that first apron can they then uh make a trade that would get the necessary resources back but also it puts them back into that second apron can they still do that kind of thing yeah I mean basically what would happen is is that as long as you’re not using one of the thing the the I guess resources that would trigger it okay so for example let’s say you move nage and now you’re a first apron team okay and now all of a sudden you want to take back more money in a trade then that would trigger that would trigger the apron or aggregate that would basically re basically would restart everything up um if you moved the number and you wanted to um uh aggregate contracts and take back players and still leaves you below the second apron then you’re allowed to do that here gotcha okay so you can’t go from one apron down to the other apron to try to go back up I got it that’s why we love you Bobby you got it all man all right so I have a question that we gonna stay down this road three team trades yeah okay um I know that it this is a question I I need answered man yeah if you make a three- team trade you’re only allow are you allow to send out one player to every team and aggregate salaries that way as because I know you can’t aggregate salaries but in a three- team trade can you send out multiple players to individual teams yeah so as long as you’re um as long as the contracts are not aggregated together right so like if you’re if you’re acquiring a15 million player okay and you need to send out and you have two guys making seven and a half and one guy is going to team a and one guy is going to Team B you’re not going to be allowed to do that because it’s considered those contracts are aggregated together to Quire to take back that money um so that in that scenario um would not work fortunately for Phoenix you guys are getting one of the top salary cap guys in the NBA I don’t say that just because I worked with him back in New Jersey and and he was uh he started back in 2011 but mdy tellum who I guess he’ll be made official probably sometime times down the road who who Phoenix is going to hire is one of the best I mean like he is like creative three teams like all different you know besides everything else that comes with it um if there’s a way to figure out something he’ll be able to figure it out and I think that’s kind of what you know as far as just like you don’t want to think you’re stuck right like we’re stuck with this roster this is what we have not a bad thing but no I think there are ways to go about doing it it’s going to take it’s going to take more creativity than Oklahoma City for example that’s may be sitting on a lot of money and draft picks and all that all right got another one for you Bobby I’m on fire right now I got to get you back to back here all right so signing trades the suns are not allowed as a second apron team to receive a player and ass signning trade we have Royce O’Neal yes who’s got a cap hold who’s a free agent now y I believe we’re allowed to trade Royce O’Neal in a signing trade um explain a little bit to to to me and here’s another question loaded on to that y can we give Royce O’Neal more money to kind of find a loophole can we give him a a I wouldn’t say a Max contract but pay him a little bit more to try to make a deal and circumvent some of these uh restrictions yeah so Roy when Rey was acquired you inherited his bird rights so the bird rights gives you the ability to exceed the salary cap no matter if you’re a luxury tax team or an apron team doesn’t matter that’s the one thing they allow you to do is basically as I said retain your own free agents so if you want to pay Royce O’Neal two years $20 million and give him a team option in a year two basically the Bruce Brown contract that was signed in Indiana and then flip him on January 15 when his restriction is lifted you can go out and do that and that’s probably like I wouldn’t get caught up like what the L what the luxury tax number would be right now as far as you know you know he’ll sign a $20 million deal and we’ll say oh it cost them another hundred million it’s really with your luxury taxes at the end of the year it’s not with what it is right now but yeah I mean that’s a way to do it because certainly um you know signing him and then trading him into in mid January that’s one way to do it and then of course as far as signing trades as you mentioned signing trades got to be for a minimum of three years first year has to be guaranteed that’s it okay so if you want to move him for you know you know he agrees to it you do a signning trade um and you want take back something else you’re allowed to go out and do that oh that’s another trade Avenue obviously the big one for the Suns with trading things is probably attaching one of their two picks that will become trade eligible on draft night to a player salary uh but we’ve gotten a lot of questions about this at at what point does a draft pick like that number 22 pick change from a pick as an asset to a rookie salary that then you cannot aggregate with another player salary yeah it’s a good question question so so we let’s fast forward to June 26 um Phoenix has a deal where they’re going to trade the 22nd pick uh and nkit for example um to another team so basically they are trading the draft rights of that player who hasn’t signed a contract so there’s no value right he counts as zero he counts as zero until he signs his contract and when he signs his contract you’d have to wait 30 days anyway to move that player here so once the Draft starts the Phoenix selects then that basically flips the calendar over so now all of a sudden 2031 becomes available so now we’re looking We’re Not Looking Back we’re looking for we’re looking forward the seven-year rule look looks forward here um so you have 31 you can be um they can trade U and then you can trade the draft rights to that certain player okay good to know now we’ve gotten a lot of questions about that 2031 pick as well yeah um how many years obviously the suns are two for two in terms of being a second tax apron team how many years do you have to be in the tax apron over the next three with those first two for that 2032 pick to be frozen or move to the back of the first round can you kind of explain what that process looks like yeah so 31 isn’t is not Frozen that’s in play because basically how the rules are right now if Phoenix finishes the 24th 25 season when we get to June and they do all the accounting next June and they say Phoenix is the second apron team now all of a sudden 20032 is is frozen so now you’re looking at it in a you know in a in a three-year vacuum as far as as far as where your picks are you know it’s frozen there’s a way to get it unfrozen if you’re um if you’re in if you’re out of the out of the second apron I believe three out of four years I would say it’s you know we make a lot to do about that pick um possibly moving from 24 to 14 right there’s a a mechanism that if you’re in the tax I think it’s four years um you can it would all of a sudden ship that I mean you have to make a really concerted effort to do that I mean you really have to make an effort and by then you know who knows what where Kevin will be who knows where Beal will be you know Devon will still be on that contract so I would say that your 32 pick will probably be Frozen um you can still you can move 31 you know before that happened so I think if you’re looking at it from a trade standpoint I think you would probably want to move 31 I would you know maybe what does the 22nd pick bring you it’s a guy in a lowc cost contract I think it’s a pretty decent draft um hopefully you strike gold where Miami did and Golden State and some of these other teams that were able to get you know three or four your guys and just to clarifi for that 2032 pick if it gets Frozen and then it moves to the back of the first round it’s no longer trade eligible right that is once it’s frozen it’s off the board yeah all right so Bobby let’s you just talked about the draft I I’ve been watching your draft combine work and it’s been very impressive man you don’t appreciate it you done a fantastic job four hours of TV is not easy and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it man I’ve been locked in you guys have done a fantastic job my question is one since you’re there and you were doing all that work uh is there a draft prospect that you seen in your time down there that may not be getting enough hype that you’re like hey this this kid could be a player and then the second part is what are you seeing from bronny James uh what’s the uh yeah so so yeah if you can give me that yeah awesome so one of the one of the things um that I’ve done for the last six or seven years is which I love doing it’s a lot of work and time is um I work with agents to help their clients interview prepare them for their interview when they meet with teams so on average I’ve done this year I’ve done about 60 players in the three weeks before the combine uh I started with Jason Tatum seven years ago I think seven years ago and kind of just built up a network here and it gives me some really good insight into who they are and then I can go on TV and talk about them and really share their story the one player I and I said this on um I think it was Wednesday that I really enjoyed meeting with I enjoyed watching him at UC Santa Barbara was AJ Mitchell who was a three-year guy um from Belgium um defends like crazy plays Point 65 um good body really competed in the combine the Google machine in Phoenix just skyrocketed right I really I really it just I love guys that can compete in Chicago I know the body of work of what you’ve seen in during the course of year played I think he played hurt this year too he told me for most of the year but still was out there um got better um as those others like that’s your three-year guy right that’s a guy that you draft you could probably put him in a game right away so I I enjoyed watching him getting to know him um Brony is interesting because McDonald’s All American coming out of Sierra um Sierra Canyon uh we all know about what happened last July with the cardiac uh you know rest doesn’t play basketball for basically four or five months right doesn’t doesn’t pick up a ball gets put into a I would say somewhat chaotic situation at USC a team that a lot of people thought were going to be better like things were like chaos there right like off the rails 19 minutes what 27% from three 30 like you know Five Points really nondescript um comes to Chicago I I went out to LA to to talk with him met with with him I loved him he was terrific awesome personality engaging got big he’s up to 215 right now like all muscle play like outside linebacker for you shot the heck out of the ball when I saw him in La shot the heck out of the ball Monday night in the combine right so that raised everyone’s eyes right when you’re shooting 19 to 25 from three I don’t care if you’re there’s three other guys out there still pretty impressive and his mechanics looked really good now we get to Tuesday and now we’re all expecting everything we’re expecting his dad to show up we’re expecting all these different things and he struggled right they had him playing Point um not a point guard doesn’t measure great 61 and a half without shoes so he’s probably what 6’2 and a quarter so what is he right he’s a small two guard he can defend like crazy right so his comp when he talked to me when he did his media media was Davon Mitchell like I asked like which is great I love players when I ask them like who do you like to watch and who do you like to study and when they say well I like Damen Lillard do you play like Damen Lillard no I just like how he shoots the ball I’m like okay who do you like to watch dve um you know Davon Mitchell okay why I love how he defends okay so Tuesday he struggles Wednesday they play him off the ball they’ve got Mark Sears from Alabama playing point mark didn’t play the day before because he had a quad injury and then they had um AJ Johnson who was a Fresno kid who played in Australia ear last year so both those guys played so Brony plays off the ball and plays really well I mean shoots four for 10 but in game one all he would take was a little floater down the lane right like really that’s was kind of like is that only the only thing he has made a step back hit a corner three was really active good on defense so now it’s like okay he can play right like he’s an I think he’s an NBA level player I think gavon moved him up to like 54 on his top 100 he was like at 98 so there’s movement there do I think he’s a first round Prospect probably not I don’t think though do I think he can get drafted I do um is there teams in the 20s or 30s that you think okay remove the dad Factor here right like I it drives me crazy like well if we draft them or was the dad coming too like let’s just worry about the player like do I think he can step on an NBA floor next year probably not right I think you would probably see more in the g- league I think he’s a work in development I think he’s an investment two two-year investment then you could probably see him on on the floor but that’s that’s with most fir late first round guys second round picks two-way guys that you’re going to see him with their g-league team here so I think he helped himself I think he helped himself competing what he does with in his individual workouts over the month will certainly help but I would not be stunned at all when um for our sake because we had two nights of the draft that on day two he gets um he gets selected somewhere here where I don’t know would it be te teams that have multiple picks and you want to take a flyer and you got what you want for somebody that you know would help you I could see that does it make sense if you’re picking 15 to take them and you need a player that might be a little bit more of a reach there oh okay well so it sounds like you’re you’re saying that LeBron James might take a you know nice little vet minimum just to come here is that is that what I heard all that that’s all I heard here let me let me I’m going to be actually serious in this I like the question I’m G to be actually be serious this I think it would be a disservice for teams not to make the call and ask the question I really do and I like I think there’s I think there’s a multi-step process here I think first of all get your Scouts in a room usually you don’t start doing your board until like the weekend of before the Draft starts so we would bring our guys in like Saturday Sunday Scouts would be doing your top whatever 60 top 75 and you that’s how that you start doing it I do think there’s probably a conversation you have with your Scouts now and say hey give me a preliminary big board right let give me your top 60 top 75 and let’s see where listen if you get it and Bron’s not on there it’s a little bit of a stretch there but I do think there’s a conversation with with the agent um Rich Paul saying hey we have interest in him at 20 I’m just hypothetical we have interest in him at 22 where do you see what’s what’s the what’s LeBron going to do right like you know our situation ation here like we have this is what we got we got three million bucks right um we have a really appealing developmental program um this is not about the dad this is about you know investing longterm in him all that stuff but I do think it’s worth having the conversation I really do I mean I think every team has to have the conversation it’s because until you ask you never know couldn’t agree more Bobby I mean M isby has been gung-ho from day one of building out that g-league team getting better at the development of younger players so you know that’s Bobby thank you so much for joining us we really appreciate this this was great stuff be a leader out there I don’t know there doesn’t seem to be too many of those dudes out there and one of them that is available or could be available I should say because he has not opted out yet is LeBron and he fills a lot of buckets and I I don’t have a problem with it whatsoever have not mad at it I mean he is a billionaire so if anyone could afford to opt out of that many millions of dollars to be able to play where he wants to play maybe if he doesn’t want to play in LA anymore maybe if he’s not involved with the coaching search I don’t know man this is this is this is intriguing man listen Bobby nailed it uh it it’ll be irresponsible for teams in the 20s not to at least make the call right and say Rich listen this is where we’re at this is how we value him this is the developmental program we got we got a g-league team that’s about to start we can put all the focus on him him how interested are is your client in coming in and doing something that no one has ever done the ability to play an NBA basketball game with his own son not to mention the fact that it’s a pretty damn good team you’re putting your son in a situation where if the Suns would have draft bronnie uh yeah he gets I mean this is Ivy League level type stuff right you get to go to work with Devon Booker Kevin Durant Brad Beal and potentially your dad I mean yeah I’m a father and I’m telling you right now there’s no amount of money that would uh make me not think about that so yeah I mean uh they got to make the call you got to make the call agreed I’ll put we’ll put a pin in that one maybe we’ll revisit it a little bit later um for the LeBron stuff yeah go ahe this is true but like I just want to address a few things first of all for like it feels like the last couple weeks every time LeBron has been mentioned there we get a lot of scoffing and a lot of like laughter like yeah right blah blah blah right okay cool that’s that’s fine but there was also a lot of like yeah right you’re not getting KD yeah right Bradley Beal get the hell out of here actually I even was one of those guys like there’s no way we’re getting Bradley Beal it doesn’t even make sense right and then we got Bradley be I was like oh [ __ ] okay well I guess we’re doing this so um the fact that LeBron um might be interested in doing something like that there there’s so many holes on this team that are more than just on the court that I feel like LeBron Phils that it’s you would be it would be gross negligence to not at least make the phone call I agree with you a million percent and then on top of that just listen he’s 40 plus but he’s not playing like it he wouldn’t nearly have the load on him that he’s had in La he doesn’t have to be relied on to be this you know 25o game score [ __ ] just give me 20 and 10 tonight you’re going to be good and he could easily do that yeah so I’m just like again like I I think I think a lot of people they they want to scoff at things and and they don’t like LeBron and they got all what it doesn’t matter and we’re not trading anything he would be a free agent Lucas so um it doesn’t matter and if you if you’re in the C that would be the biggest fla what if LeBron opted out and came to Phoenix on a vet man there is no bigger fla than that and then you signed Chris Paul and you got the backup point guard oh man the roster builds itself I’m just saying and if you’re in the camp where the Suns need a starting point guard they need a starting point guard you’re not going to do better than LeBron James on a vet minimum no sry to tell you you can get a backup point guard on a vet minimum but if you’re looking for a starting point guard I mean I don’t I don’t know many avenues that are going to get better than that Bobby just broke down all the restrictions and how hard it is going to be to build out this roster or to get more Talent I’m I’m being honest I’m being truly transparent if I was running this team uh that’s an Avenue I’d pursue and i’ I’d almost put the ball in this court and put the pressure on hey we got bronnie man like you wanna you want to do this then yeah let’s sit down and talk because you’re not gonna have many opportunities you’re not gonna have many opportunities to I can’t cos sign on that okay I’m not drafting bronnie when I got holes to fill unless I know LeBron’s coming okay I need a yeah I need certain assurances in terms of timing maybe you can help me out on this Gerald does LeBron have to opt out before the draft or is it after the draft need to check what his opt out day but they’re usually like June 29th June 29th is his out day after the draft a week after the draft so we could potentially draft bronnie and he’s got a week to think of draft is 22nd no this year it’s it’s the 26th and 27 oh it is okay 26 and 27 this year a couple days later so oh [ __ ] um here we go could that will happen first the draft will happen first and then he’ll have a decision to make again listen I the Suns have the 22nd pick I’m I’m being a little I’m joking a little bit when I say I would just draft bronnie and but but again with the options that you have it’s enticing it’s enticing to even think about the potential of doing that and putting that ball in his court because at the end of the day I do think it’s a dream for him to play with his son and again I think the the unique situ if if if the Charlotte Hornets drafted bronnie right LeBron’s not even entertaining it but the Phoenix Sun 45 minute flight from LA mhm it’s a little different a lot different James Jones yeah start getting on the phone guys yeah JJ and Bron we teammates can we put a pin in this one for go ahead let’s do it sure just I just want to be excited for a minute that there are some loopholes it wasn’t exactly like the loophole Heaven that we all thought maybe could be potential but the fact that there are loopholes still available in this and then he also brought up uh Matt tellum who is reportedly going to be joining the sun’s front office as being like one of the masterminds when it comes to that space I’m kind of excited like this is getting me a little more I still know there’s a lot of limitations but if anybody’s going to find them I feel like it’s got to be the Suns right I’ll be the Debbie Downer on this pod that’s fine just let me have a minute I mean there’s only I mean I know he’s a cap genius but there’s still only so much he can do there is I would I would I’m glad that they’re putting their time effort resources into trying to find the best possible people to navigate the situation because yeah there’s only so much you can do at the end of the day but if there are ways to be creative and work out deals where maybe it’s not a set three- team trade but you’re able to work out the math where it’s two separate trades involving three teams that type of stuff if you have somebody that knows how to do that and is an upand andc Comer in that regard then yeah like hell yeah I had that person to your front office I love the point he made about the options with the players and then potentially opting out knowing that they can come back and get the deal and drop some money on the salary cap that’s genius I didn’t I didn’t know that was possible I love the fact that you got some options with Royce O’Neal I love the fact that you got some options about going below the second apron potentially and this is why we got to let all this play out can I just make sure I understood that correctly so you can’t drop down below just to make another move to pop you back up yeah you will if you do something that will separate moves though like if your first move didn’t trigger it can the second I feel like I should ask in that can you do two two separate ones if you drop down to the first apron you have to stay there basically okay can’t make de make a move that triggers it then you you’re back where you were so that’s that part’s tough yeah but yeah that would have been a good one to have but if you drop below that apron and you’re now allowed to offer LeBron a midlevel exception instead of a minimum that could be big difference and and that that scenario where you get under the second aprim where you’re dumping nerk and getting nothing in return a okay you just lost your starting center and don’t have anybody coming back we weren’t advocating that just throwing that out like yes you can get that creative but you have to find a team that’s willing to do that you have to have moves lined up afterwards so again this is where having like a front office exec who can get creative and maybe spitball some of these scenarios is good but we should also take all of this with a grain of salt that that’s highly unlikely that that’s the Avenue that that you go down that’s the thing that I always feel like people just completely just blaze right past is the fact that you need to find another sucker to take your [ __ ] I mean yeah but how many times have we talked about this somebody else pleasure there’s somebody out there who values them more than we do is not no no I’m not talking about nerk specifically I’m just speaking in general at this point but there’s somebody out there I mean look at us with bullo this year you know what I mean like a lot of people were and out on bull b and we have completely won Ed on him yeah but bull b didn’t cost us 18 million year to try and take on okay but nerk is not trash I didn’t say he was trash I know but I’m just saying I was just in theory on trades in general people are always like oh yeah we’ll give you you know Sabin Lee and and ish way wri uh for ant that sounds like a great deal oh will even throw in a first round pick like get the [ __ ] out of here I mean yeah that’s definitely you know what something I was interested that he said was that there’s a third of the league that’s going to be in this situation so I’m telling you this is a mad problem we’re not the only team we’re not the only teams and the teams that are in that spot are going to be willing to work with each other right when you got maybe 10 teams in the same spot the best idea is to work together you have your problem I have my problem we do stuff like that so I I think there’s going to be some of that going on and I also think that you know the 90% floor plays a role in it there’s some teams that have cap space go look at those teams because I have they’re not very desirable places so there’s going to be some money left over that they may not be able to use and we’ve seen this happen multiple times where team has a lot of cap space nobody wants to take it and you know how you fill that floor by taking on those contracts because you have to and so this is It’s Gonna Get interesting this is this is a [ __ ] show I I don’t I don’t I don’t for the life of me understand what CJ McCollum and Company wereth thinking when they signed this deal this might be this might go down as the worst the worst collective bargaining agreement for players in the history of sports let’s get CJ on it is so terrible do it ask him it is so awful like even the day that they announced it I was like wait what they really signed off on this this is atrocious but did you hear what Bobby said I mean if they were if they were gearing towards a hard cap then yeah you sign off on this cuz the hard cap means hey bro you got 150 million you go over by one cent you got to cut somebody and they’re gone that’s how the NFL works so if the alternative was a hard cap then I can see how it that’s why you got to go on strike yeah best content we’ve ever gotten from NBA players was when they were on strike I’m I’m serious like K what’s what’s best for the league and the players in the long run it ain’t it ain’t to get suckered bunch of suckers man could you imagine you acquire Kevin Durant and the year you acquire him y go on strike and you waste a whole Kevin Durant year or or get older by a year I
