Bulls make SNEAKY move… Wes Unseld Jr. HIRED as Bulls Coach | Chicago Bulls News
the Washington Wizards fired Wes unsel Jr as the head coach but now the Chicago Bulls have hired Wes unel Jr as the lead assistant for the Chicago Bulls we’re going to be talking about if this is a good move for the Chicago Bulls and what this potentially could mean for the Bulls moving forward this is Rico greenhow and this is another episode of bulls digest and before we jump into it want to around your Chicago Bulls and without further Ado guys let’s jump into the only topic of the video which is the Bulls higher West unel Jr here so this is a pretty interesting hire all right so we’re looking at a guy that was not successful with the Washington Wizards and it comes on the hills of the Wasington Wizards being in the middle of a rebuild and they still fired my man so um that is a tough situation look the Washington Wizards um I’m not sure what direction they’re headed but um you know it just bolds questions of is this a good hire for the Chicago Bulls and initially I was thinking perhaps this is not a good look for the Chicago Bulls but then thinking about it he does have ties to the Denver Nuggets and when you’re listening to what some of the players uh at Denver are talking about when they’re referring to West unsold Jr they’re saying that this guy was terrific as a Player Development coach which is one of the major issues that the Chicago Bulls have I think we have an issue with developing our young talent I think several times it has been mentioned uh on this channel and also too you’ll see it in the comments as well that for whatever reason we either get talent and we do not develop it and it used usually ends up going off to another team and being serviceable in the NBA like a guy like Laurel marinin here’s a guy that’s over at Utah he’s making headways a guy like uh I would say even a guy like Chris Dunn I think he’s taken off since he’s left us as well and even an injured Wendell Carter Jr has done well look at what Bobby poris has done this is just to name a couple players that have been with us that we I don’t think necessarily developed all the way to see their potential so you know I will say that this is one thing that is a positive here is that we are getting a guy that I think he’s proven that he can help develop players so that’s one thing and this is prior to the Denver Nuggets winning championships and so I think another thing that he also did as well was he was their uh pretty much their defensive coach over in Denver and so that’s huge because they went from 28th in the league up to 10th in the league I believe so that’s a huge huge aspect and that’s another critical thing that the Chicago Bulls need so initially when you look at this you would think okay this is a guy that got fired and it doesn’t work but we’ve seen several times guys that there are top assistant head coaches that go out and they’re not very good uh as head coaches it it just doesn’t work out that way and to be honest with you this guy was a finalist to get this head coaching job with the Chicago Bulls along with now the Houston Rockets head coach and he didn’t get it we gave it to Billy Donovan and you know maybe this signals the fact that finally artorius is finally looking to take control over this situation because he’s bringing in his guy right and he’s bringing in a guy that checks a couple boxes that we need we need to get better defensively and we absolutely have got to develop young Talent guys and so look if he was partially responsible for what happened with Michael Porter Jr we have a guy like Julian Phillips maybe he perhaps is that guy I’m not saying that he’s going to be Michael Porter Jr but if he takes that type of development that is certainly a plus for us uh if we were to go ahead and draft a big man if he can help our big man uh get to uh statistically or or be on the same playing level as a guy like the joker I’m not saying that there’s anybody that’s ever going to be like that but you know that can uh following those footsteps then that absolutely would help the Chicago Bulls and lastly with Kobe white is much as he had as as far as Improvement wise um you know if he can clean up a little bit of his inconsistencies moving forward I think that that is going to be a plus for us too guys so I think that you know we should probably look at this higher and say okay all right so I don’t think we’re super excited about it just yet but I think longterm wise this could be beneficial this is going to be huge we obviously have the 11th pick coming up we have a decision to make about Patrick Williams so perhaps you know that Wes unel Jr can get the Player Development moving in the right direction and certainly hopefully he can get us moving in the right direction defensively here and so you know when I look at this and I’m thinking about uh what could possibly happen as well we’ve talked about Billy Donovan maybe moving on to the University of Kentucky which he denied that he didn’t want to go and also too he’s under an extension as well and you know this is an interesting point um perhaps maybe he could be in line for the next head coaching job right if they decide to move Billy Donovan up in the franchise as an executive or uh they eventually move move on from Billy Donovan I think that since he was a finalist you could rightfully say that maybe the Chicago Bulls might be looking to move him into the head coaching seat I’m not saying that that is a great thing I’ve obviously LED with the fact that he did struggle as a head coach but the Washington Wizards I think were in a far more difficult situation uh than I think we are at this point in time but you know just kind of looking at the numbers when we look at Billy Donovan and I think why the Chicago Bulls maybe gravitated towards him the One season that he had that was special with OKC was what he was able to do I think in what 2016 2017 which was the last time that that team had made the Western Conference finals and they were within a game of pushing to the finals there and so um you know it it’s not like Billy Donovan hasn’t been able to get these guys to play defense because I mean he gets them to play some defense but we have real issues with the fact that he doesn’t play our younger talent and he also too uh you know I think he’s he’s really responsible for developing our young Talent as well and so I think that this is certainly going to help Billy Donovan uh I think that this is probably going to put a lot more pressure on Billy Donovan I think as a head coach because even with the extension I think that now artorius is coming out here and saying look this is my guy and I think he’s basically saying this is the way things are going to be done at this point in time and so look I I like the fact that he’s taking control this way um I’m hoping that he’s going to now go ahead and rip the Band-Aid a a little bit more on this roster and start to move it in that direction guys and so let me know what you guys think in the comments like do you think that we are doomed now that we’ve hired Wes unel Jr um do you think that he possibly could be
