I agree that he has the potential to be a great coach but it’s gonna take him a few years to reach that point. We have maybe 2 years left of LeBron so Idk.

If they don’t wanna go all in I get it. I don’t think this team is able to beat the best teams in the west. Weren’t there reports that they want to trade their picks and go all in? It’d be a weird decision to go all in with trades but not with a coach

  2. We all know you’re dying to hire him, so get over this shit already and do it.

Only answer I can come up with is those guys are the cheapest “name brand” options. 😑

  4. This front office continues to be an embarrassment, just get it over with. The way they always have to try and pr their way so they don’t get shit for their stupid decisions is insane.

If they put as much effort into running the team as they do self preservation we would have gotten another 3peat by now

It will be a huge risk, but I do actually believe that JJ will be a good coach. The question is whether he can be a good enough coach in his first couple years to get this team where it needs to go.

One issue that you’re going to have with a lot of the other choices is getting the respect and buy-in from Lebron. If you get that, everyone else falls in line easily.

So we will start our search again in 2 years, good plan.

  7. BarveyDanger

I was looking for a reason to take a break from this team. This might do it

While you’re at it hire Luke Walton and Byron Scott too

    Jesus fucking christ.

Oh hey we’ve got LeBron James with only a few years left of his career, know what we should do? Hire a first time head coach who’s only experience is as an assistant… then when we fire him we should replace him with another first time head coach who’s only experience is coaching his sons under 10 team.

Fucking hell… just wrap this shit up. AD is INSANE if he stays here and wastes his last few prime years the way LeBron has had to waste his.

I’m just tired of this news. Mid june should come sooner

Pat riley-like coaching prospect…. this fucking FO is a joke. Instead of trying to follow what the top teams do, we hire a fucking podcaster

  12. Lebron literally destroyed the lakers. You guys are unbelievable

  13. Just hire him – what matters with a coach when you have LeBron and AD is that they KNOW HOW TO SCHEME, have the younger players respect (which he should have because he’s a former player) and bring Experienced assistants

He’s most likely going to be a two or three year coach because he’s probably tied to LeBron – they need to max out these two years! Just go for it you’re the fucking Lakers!

What are the odds that J.J. actually is a good coach?

  15. I’m by no means all in on JJ, but there isn’t a big name experienced coach’s and the track record for the FO recently picking assistants to make the jump may great either.

  16. Thing about potential is “Potential is what people see when they think what’s in front of them isn’t good enough” is a quote from the character Sintara Golden in the 2023 American fiction movie American Fiction.

Pat Riley? What are we doing here? Can we get someone competent? Just competent? Can make adjustments, communicate with players and make average rotations? Like is it so hard? Why are we talking about one of the greatest basketball minds of all time as the standard of the coaching search? What are we doing here?!

  18. I have feeling JJ will be great coach for us even though I would prefer Experience Head Coach

  19. GodJihyoExists

I may be in the minority but I’ll remain cautiously optimistic

  20. Upbeat_Raspberry_302

I feel as if I’m the only one on this subreddit excited at the idea of JJ being the head coach.

  21. ranchoparksteve

I can see why the Pat Riley comparison happens with JJ. But even Pat Riley had a couple years as assistant coach. Kerr might be a better comparison but he had some management experience with the Suns.

I really hate this move but fuck it…

  23. It’s hard being a Lakers fan with this FO in place

  24. swooshlife24

Remember when Luke Walton was seen as an exciting opportunity

  25. SadAccountant_23

Imagine ij actually becomes the next Pat Reily that shit would be hilarious

  26. Scorpionrah

What drugs are they smoking pmg we’re screwed

  27. vespamike562

He could be Sean McVay. He could be a complete disaster. Lakers seem to want to hire him, so they should just do it and live or die with the consequences.

  28. The thing about JJ is he uses analytics. If you watch some of the podcast episodes with Lebron, JJ raves a lot about Trae Young. There some nuggets there unlocking the offense.
