I personally hold this above MN Miracle game when considering the opponent, where they were playing, and coming back over a 20 pt deficit. This was a historic feat and I think should be considered the best Wolves win of all time up to this point, but how does it rank when comparing the other sports?

  2. CantaloupeCamper

It’s one of them in the mix for sure.

Hard to beat two world championship moments though.

Above the miracle IMO .. both tremendous, but Miracle is a little dampened by the fact that that team was just ho hum ass on offense that run / not great.

  3. Ok_Meat_8322

I don’t really care about hockey or baseball, so its up there for sure. Probably even top 3.

It’ll take a little while to digest it, but if you ask me right now I’d say its #1, because I’m still floored from that comeback. It still feels like a dream. Absolutely nanners.

  4. Enriching_the_Beer

    1. 91 GM7
    2. 87 GM7
    3. Miracle
    4. 24 GM7
    5. 04 GM7

  5. BattingNinth

There are a few above it, both Twins world championships and Game 163, the Minneapolis miracle, but after that, yep this one!

  6. Somewhere between 5-10.

Twins: Game 7 of the 87 World Series, game 6 and 7 in 91, game 5 of the 2002 ALDS

    Vikings: Minneapolis Miracle

Wild: 2003 first round game 7

I’d probably put these games and maybe some Viking NFC title games that they actually won ahead of the Wolves vs Nuggets game, but I could be convinced otherwise

  7. Irontruth

I’d put it over the Vikings. The first half was rough, but as a viewing experience, it sets up the second half. Also, a 20-point comeback in a game seven is literally historic for all of basketball. It is the greatest comeback of all-time in the NBA IMO. Yes, there have been bigger deficits, but not in a game 7. Not with the season on the line AND guaranteeing the next playoff round.

    It’s not a championship though.

  8. omgphilgalfond

I know you said win, but the 4/19/06 Wolves game where Madsen chucked up 7 insane threes always holds a special place in my heart.

  9. nhthelegend

If nothing else, it’s the biggest win in Timberwolves history imo (so far 😉 )

  10. Twins wins are above this since they were in the World Series. 04 and 24 are interchangeable to me. Miracle below those

  11. Too early to tell. If they win the title it’s the best by far without a doubt. If they lose its right by the minneapolis miracle as a really cool event that amounts to nothing.

  12. I’d put it above the miracle. Both great but the Game 7 has so many moments rather than just a once in a lifetime game play thanks some blown coverage (as great as that was!). Can’t make any comment on the Twins – baseball is the one sport I’m not a minny fan because I’m stuck with the seattle fucking mariners.

  13. WrinkledRandyTravis

Anyone who wants to watch another amazing Timberwolves game, the 2004 Game 7 against Sacramento is on YouTube. KG was so dominant that day. It’s unbelievable to watch.

  14. I wasn’t alive for the two Twins WS wins, but my top sports moments are probably

    1. Twins WC Game 2 vs Blue Jays – I was at this game and it was electric and this game will always have a special spot in my heart

    2. Twins WC Game 1 vs Blue Jays – I had never seen a Twins team win a playoff game before, and I am a diehard baseball fan. I watched us lose from 2010-2018, then saw us get swept by the Yankees in 2019 which hurt even more because I thought we had a chance at the WS in 2019, then we sucked randomly for 2 more years, and then… finally… we won a playoff game and it was amazing

    3. Timberwolves v Nuggets Game 7 – what a crazy game, I’ll never forget this

    4. Timberwolves v Nuggets Game 2 – This game was absolutely electric to watch

    5. Vikings v Saints Miracle – I’ll admit I’m not a big football guy compared to the Twins and Timberwolves, but this moment was massive and I’ll never forget where I was when it happened. It feels even better that it was against the Saints after 2009. I absolutely hate the Saints

One event that wasn’t necessarily a win but is amazing and would probably rank in my top 5 somewhere, would be the 2019 Twins breaking the HR record, that was hyper fun to be a part of

As of now have to put in only behind wins that led to the twins World Series.

Minneapolis miracle was awesome but it never fully felt like that team could win the Super Bowl. This wolves team feels like they have a potential championship in them. Plus all the ups and downs of a battle of a series against the defending champs.

  16. HokieSpartanWX

Ahead of the Minneapolis Miracle right now for two reasons:

    1. The comeback in the second half. The Vikings were up big on NO before the second half meltdown, which led to the miracle. I think that having it reversed for the Wolves moves it ahead.
    2. We don’t know how the WCF will play out, so perhaps this doesn’t matter, but knowing how thoroughly the Vikings got their butts kicked the next week in Philly moves it down a peg.

After that, I wouldn’t put it ahead Games 6 and 7 of the ‘91 WS. For starters, that was a championship series, not a semifinals. Also, the ‘91 WS is widely considered to be the greatest ever played, so knowing the factors of it all puts those two games ahead. And a third factor going for them is the performances. Not taking anything away from Ant, KAT, Naz, and co., but Jack Morris’ pitching performance in Game 7 can be considered one of the greatest postseason performances in any sport, ever.

  17. CMButterTortillas

    Twins, Twins, A-WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, purple stuff

  18. Beautiful_Effort_777

Slanderous how the 2003 2nd round game 7 overtime goal by Andrew brunette isn’t even mentioned in this thread.

  19. Tim-oBedlam

Below the Twins’ two WS wins, or Kirby’s Game 6 home run (“we’ll see you…TOMORROW NIGHT!”) that set up Game 7, or the Maya Moore shot to win Game 3 of the 2015 WNBA finals, for sure.

Might beat just about anything else.

  20. themoertel

On the same plane as the Minneapolis Miracle if we pretend the following week never happened, below 1991 Games 6 and 7

  21. BradyAndTheJets

    91 Game 7.
    DEN-MIN Game 7.
    91 Game 6.
    Minneapolis Miracle.

  22. yarn_install

Don’t care about any other sports, so it’s 1 for me

  23. Minnesota_Hammer

For me, this was the most fun I have had watching a Minnesota sporting event in my lifetime (1994). Recency bias against the Minneapolis Miracle, but other factors also come in to play. Was traveling for work during Miracle and was watching by myself in my hotel with no other Vikings fans to celebrate with. The other night was out at a bar PACKED with people howling and cheering on the Wolves. Just a different experience altogether.

All that said, on paper, nothing in MN Sports history really holds a candle to the accomplishment of Jack Morris pitching a 10-inning complete game shutout in game 7 of the World Series. Could argue it’s the greatest pitching performance ever given the magnitude of the game.

  24. cubonelvl69

Twins wins at the top, but I wasnt alive for them. Imo it’s

    ‘#1 Minneapolis miracle

    ‘#2 Game 7 wolves nuggets

    ‘#3 Game 6 wolves nuggets

Honestly the play in game a few years ago might be next, or one of the recent twins playoff wins that finally broke our streak

  25. Critical-Fault-1617

Probably top 4. But we have two WS wins, the Minneapolis miracle, and the twins playoff game where we got the monkey off our back to get rid of the most consecutive playoff losses in North American sports history. I’d slot that in right after the Minneapolis miracle and right before the twins win.

  26. doublea08

For me it’s right there with the Miracle. I’d probably put this as 1A and the Miracle as 1B.

  27. DeceivedBaptist

Up there but not touching any of the World series games obviously and not really some amazing game overall other than it was G7 against the Nuggets in second round. Top 25 lol.

Game was kinda weird though. First half absolutely sucked, and some of the second half did too. Not really a game I will tune into to watch.

  28. need2peeat218am

Minneapolis Miracle was insane. Also the Vikings Vs Bills and the Vikings vs Colts comeback. JJ had a top 3 catch of all time. Game 7 20 years ago was crazy too. Hard to rank. I’m just here to appreciate the moments lol.

  29. Gripfighting

Unfortunately I wasn’t alive for the first Twins world series, and I didn’t appreciate professional sports or know how to use a toilet when they won their second. So for me this is neck-and-neck with KG’s 32/21 to beat the Kings in 2004.

I was the perfect age to hero worship KG and to be incensed by the sports media talk that maybe KG wasn’t the guy to carry his team in the playoffs. I still remember the sweet gratification when he hits the top of the key three pointer and the announcer exclaims, “Kevin Garnett is carrying his team – like the MVP should!”

  30. subtleshooter

Right behind the twins world series’.

Ahead of anything the Vikings have done imo

  31. Consistent-Deal-55

Wolves had skill, Vikes just got lucky on that play.

  32. grrrimabear

My rankings of the moments in OP.

    1. 10 inning shut out from Morris. Easily number 1. Best pitching performance ever given the situation, IMO. Clinched the last Minnesota championship, and we lose without it.

    2. “We’ll see you tomorrow night.” Again, situation. And the best MN athlete of all time, IMO.

3/4 Tied for me. The comeback from 20 down to win by 8 is insane. But I’ve never freaked out as much as I did for the minneapolis miracle. I almost had a heart attack. And I’m a vikings fan first. Both are held back a tad because they weren’t in the finals.
