Steve Popper Newsday: “All indications are…Brunson’s willing to sign a 4-year, $156 million contract extension…provide 5 more years of certainty in New York, rather than waiting until next summer for a 5-year, $270 million extension”

Not sure how reliable this is, but this is huge, and would show how committed brunson is winning for the knicks, a true leader

  1. He’s getting a statue. He’s also making it so everyone else knows their value.

Huge if true and would be the ultimate sacrifice because he would absolutely get the 5yr/270M next year if he waited and honestly I dont think anyone would be mad at him if he did wait. This would also go along way to avoiding the 2nd apron as well.

  3. Ok-Side-1758

Would literally be a steal of a deal for a player of his caliber.

I get it from Brunson’s side too. He is a small guard so one major injury and he isn’t going to get a max the same a Giannis and Luka would

Nearly 40 million a year isn’t too bad considering the contracts he got so far

Building a contender is so much easier when your All-NBA players are taking discounts. Sign OG back on a team friendly contract, make one more trade and we’ll be a Finals team next season.

  5. confuddly

hopefully this means OG and Randle take similar money or less, they shouldnt be making more money than Brunson

  6. kraftpunkk

Passing up on 100 mil. Thats wild. Family ties baby.

  7. teknomatic

Bro that would be huge. He’s a better man than me because it would be very hard for me to turn down an extra 115 mil

  8. knicksin7even

I gotta see pen on paper to believe this , never seen a stat take this less money before

  9. Dude realizes if he allows the Knicks to build and have the financial flexibility to improve the team around him and he wins in New York he’ll be a legend.

Every time I think I cannot possibly not like Jalen Brunson more…

  11. Successful_Cup_1882

If he does this for us NY needs to come together and make him the face of this city. A player like this taking a 100mil paycut is unheard of in modern NBA. We have to do right by him or honestly we just suck.

  12. beanie_mac

This would be a great move for the team. But I think Brunson is willing to take this current discount for the time being knowing the Knicks will give him even more money on a second extension in 3-4 years.

  13. This is actually insane, and should further prove why we should start planning a Jalen Brunson statue outside of MSG.

  14. Chemical_One

I’m gonna be a bit skeptical of that claim. We love the guy, he clearly loves it here, but passing up $100M guaranteed doesn’t really seem realistic. I can’t think of any examples when a guy in their prime took that big of a discount.

  15. YanksJetsKnicks

39 mil per year will still make him one of the biggest bargains in the league. Has HUGE implications long-term in regards to staying below the 2nd apron. Says everything about his desire to win.

I don’t know where to start with this guy. How are we so lucky?

  17. Urban_Introvert

This is the same guy that went to the Mavs twice for a 4/55 contract. Kudos to Brunson. His mindset is literally team first with those Brady-like contracts. Nike better sign this man to a big shoe deal to make up the difference.

Obviously just a rumor, but I’d DIE for this man.

  19. I ordered 3 Brunson jerseys during this playoff run. Couldn’t be any happier
