We were never getting Dirk, we always wanted Traylor and that’s why Dallas selected him ahead of our pick – the trade was always happening.
The bigger “what if” is Embiid tbh.

Taking Joe Alexander over Brook. Coulda paired Lopez with Bogut. I remember texting my buddy like “holy shit it’s gonna happen” then take Joel fucking Alexander 🤦♂️

embiid. jabari is a nice guy but holy shit
dusters
DJ Wilson over Collins/Allen/OG

Not biggest but there’s also Thon Maker, next pick was Sabonis…

I remember the debate between jabari and Wiggins (embiid felt like he was not on their radar as much due to the injury). Hard to know what the other guys would have become on the bucks because development could have been way different. Wiggins went through like 3 teams before finally landing with warriors and embiid had the process for multiple seasons. I remember wanting bobby Portis but they took Rashad Vaughn. Still ended up getting him anyway eventually. Same thing happened with Jerryd Bayless. I wanted him over Joe Alexander but they went the other way.. somehow got Bayless anyway eventually. Weird how that works out sometimes.

2010 – we picked Jimmer Fredette 10th then traded him for Tobias Harris. Klay Thompson went 11th.

I distinctly remember being so disgusted when we drafted Joe Alexander that I shut my tv off and tried not to think about it. This was a year after taking a 33 year old Yi Jianlian in the top 10. Those were dark days

Underrated bad one is picking Georgios Kalaitzakis as a favor for Giannis agent in a year where Austin Reaves, Sam Hauser, Jose Alvarado went undrafted.
It was the last pick in the draft but Kalaitzakis clearly wasn’t NBA quality and couldn’t shoot at all while the Bucks passed on multiple guys with great college resumes.

Any pick we made in the 2000’s up until Giannis and Jabari Parker are regrets lol. Every single one was useless largely besides Bogut and Ersan in the long term. TJ Ford of course got hurt. But he was good.

The most realistic one of them all: drafting DJ freaking Wilson over OG Anunoby.
This whole sub was celebrating when we were on the clock because everyone thought we would draft OG. The draft thread was sure of it, the Bucks beat reporters were sure of it, everyone thought he would be the pick.
And the Horst picked DJ Wilson with his first ever pick. It makes my blood boil every single time.
If we had OG we would have one more chip, and he could very well be on the roster as the perfect forward next to Giannis for small ball lineups.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Many teams passed on Giannis, selecting instead names like Otto Porter Jr., Anthony Bennett, Cody Zeller, and Alex Len.
I’m personally happy with the progress the franchise had made since the darker days.

Honestly I dont like a lot of our picks

Maybe it’s just assumed, but obviously Bogut over Chris Paul and Deron Williams needs to be at least mentioned here.

My draft regrets were any draft pick that was bad.

Steph Curry is really the only answer if you know Bucks history.

Buck could have had Scottie Pippen. In 1986 Bucks traded Alton Lister plus 2FRP’s for Jack Sikma to Sonics. The first pick was 1987 FRP (Mark Jackson was later selected) which Sonics dealt to the Knicks or their future ’87 FRP (Scottie Pippen was later selected.) Of Course Sonics really fumbled the bag trading Scottie Pippen on draft night plus BJ Armstrong pick for Olden Polynice! At least we got Jack Sikma out of the deal!
Fun fact: Sonics would later trade Alton Lister to the Warriors for their FRP (Gary Payton was later selected) and in 2003 Gary Payton and George Karl Nuked Bucks franchise from Orbit.

We should have either traded our #1 overall pick in 2006 for future multiple FRP’s or drafted Chris Paul.
