Should the Oklahoma City Thunder Draft Zach Edey? | The Mismatch | Ringer NBA
Edy if he’s playing this through a chat Homen type and his role is to play Drop coverage and sit near the rim he might be a better and be a Defender than a lot of people are expecting him to [Music] be after the game I I posted how the Thunder should Draft Zack Edy I said the Thunder should Draft Zack Edy and because he addresses all those needs we just talked about and the response to that was really interesting I found a Edie is a very like a hate him or love him Prospect right so people are like you’re a dumbass or they’re like Ed would be great it’ be a perfect fit for the Thunder but then what was interesting I thought was the Thunder side of things where people were like a yes this exactly fits their needs they need rebounding they need interior size this adds this adds a brand new wrinkle to everything that they do but then the other side of it was was no he doesn’t fit who they are they don’t he can’t run with them okay I mean but what about the 20 2425 Thunder what about the 25 26 Thunder he can’t run with the 23 24 Thunder but what about future iterations of the Thunder do the Thunder continue with who they are or do they add a brand new ingredient to add something new to what they can become in the future is what they’ve been this year the formula for their championship teams or do they need to change a little bit of who they are based off of what they learned this year to me that’s the question Sam presty and that Thunder front office he to ask themselves do we want to continue being this or do we need to change a little bit of who who we are like foundationally as a franchise with your roster constructs it’s not just about the the players it’s also about who you are and how you play and that’s where I think whether it’s Zack e or trading up for Donovan kingan the Yukon Center or even drafting kle wear out of Indiana who can shoot threes a bitt he shot over 40% this year at Indiana like whoever it is whatever the big is I don’t think needs to be a young guy either just have somebody that can Rim protect and G give you another look how about in that case wait for you know see what the Sixers do this off season and see if Joel embid demands a trade well you’re you’re talking wild but like yeah I am talking wild wild things have happened got but you see these other teams that are like you know the the heart and steens of the world and what happens with guys like himim the capella of the world and what happens guys like the Jared all Capella’s way past his prime man no he’s not no he’s not the Jared Allen of the world again you’re talk look these guys are whoever it is is a role player that’s what they are they’re playing a role so what’s wrong with Evee number 12 what’s wrong what’s wrong with that he because he’s slower than hell you get they just going to wait for him every time to get down the court with him I think that’s unfair to Edie he is you could you could win a foot race against him no I couldn’t neither neither can you neither could most people who listen to this podcast you see this guy run looks ridiculous come on the way the pace and space of the NBA is now no man not not not with a young team that flies up and down the court like so you’re not a believer in Edy as an NBA player I just I think it could go how how many he only posts up yeah but yes in college he only posted up okay but in the NBA if he’s playing in pick and roll with SGA or Jaylen Williams He suddenly become he’s not shooting jumpers no no I never said shoot jumpers he suddenly becomes a lob guy he suddenly becomes a guy that beat beats up on switches he suddenly becomes a guy that’s cleaning up rebounds on the rooll if SGA drives and misses a layup he he becomes a guy that’s standing in the dunker spot looking for lob opportunities and yes as a guy who has shot over 70% from the free throw line and has really good touch on hook shots and floaters in the lane and has practiced as three-pointer over the years if he were to go to OKC who has the best shooting coach in the world and Chip England yes there’s a chance that he could become a spot up three-point shooter I think his quote Improvement his massive Improvement and a different player is wildly overstated that’s what I think I think he is who he is and it’s great in college but there’s a reason he went back to school he had to and I don’t know what is that radically different about him he is still a non- entity defensively yeah and we’ll see he is we’ll see we’ll see guy should average 50 blocks a game yeah I know but he didn’t he didn’t because stand in front of the baset yeah I know I know but like sometimes he wouldn’t even contest like I think I think you can that’s my issue you can you can I understand that but part of that is because he was so important to their offense he was the center of everything that they did part of that was like having him avoid foul trouble but then you could see blocks like the one he had against Dalton connect in the game of Tennessee where he looked like an amazing rim protector in that moment in that big clutch play down the stretch of the game Edie if he’s playing next to a cat holgren type and his role is to play Drop coverage and sit near the rim he might be a better NBA Defender than a lot of people are expecting him to be situation is so important Chris I’m not saying he’s going to be I I’m not totally sold on Edy as like some high level player in the NBA but I’m very intrigued by him in certain fits in certain situations and to me if I’m Ed’s Camp I’m doing everything in my power to get him to go to Oklahoma City because to me that’s a perfect basketball situation for him whether it’s perfect for Oklahoma City that remains to be seen that that that’s due like rooted in whatever prey’s vision is for how he builds this thing out moving forward but to me like in the Ed side you want OKC at number 12 so I would just say again enough on Zach e I’m not I’m not telling the guy’s got to be a bum what I am going to tell you is nobody runs post-ups in the NBA and that’s 99% of his offense we see it it just is yeah % of his offense it’s a lot it’s a lot of big it’s a lot of big roles in college and then they get to the he’s not a great defender and let I can’t even have him get out I can’t even have him get away from the basket without it just being torch City he can’t he’s not getting back he’s not one of those guys that can recover and so I don’t know I I think he I I the guy I’m like most looking forward to seeing what he’s like in the NBA I can’t wait well we’ll get to see him I hope I hope he’s really good personally I I’m rooting for him I’m sure you do I [Music] am I wish Jersey back there at some point I wish he was I wish he was French you’d really be in love with him get an ed jersey look I’ll say I’ll say this for Oklahoma City uh sgaa said something at the in the press conference after the series and he said you know it’s moments like this that make Champions and that’s true yeah who knows what their trajectory is going to be who knows um you know you never know the way it’s all going to match up we certainly would have never fathomed in a million years that we’d be talking about the Pacers in an Eastern Conference Final so you never know the way this stuff is going to go but they got there they got some scars for sure and I thought fought very very hard in a highly highly competitive series uh against Dallas [Music]
Verno and KOC debate whether Zach Edey can be the missing piece for OKC, as they look to improve upon their successful season.

6:25 😂😂😂😂
He doesn’t fit their scheme. Their offense works because Chet can space the floor. It was a huge difference for them this year. Chet needs to get stronger, And what they really need is a 6’9” power forward who’s strong. OG Ananouby would be perfect for them
They should have never traded Derek Lively for Cason. Everyone said D Live for the Thunder and then they got cute drafting Cason because Tre Mann didn’t pop. SMH
Why trade Derek Lively. They need Edey or Bona from ucka. Even someone like Bacot from UNC
Isaiah Hartenstein would be perfect for OKC
OKC isn't going to abandon the 5-out offense for Edey.
They play in the same division as the Wolves and Nuggets. Having a guy who's taller than Gobert and heavier than Jokic could come in handy in those matchups. I'm not convinced you can outshoot those teams over a 7-game series if you're getting bullied on the interior and don't have Steph on your team.
Edey is way too slow. They need a five out offense. They are more in need of a power forward than a lumbering big man.
Yes.
Edey is glorified Luka Garza if we're being honest
Chris covers the Grizz, who had Steven Adams. He always glazed Adams, Don't get why he so down on Edey. Adams is a plodder, but a good rebounder and screen setter.
When edey leads canada over usa in paris 😮🤪
Getting a stretch 4 who can rebound and sliding J Dub to the 3 keeps Chet as a shot blocking 5. Does drafting Edey mean OKC leaves their 5-out offense?
Guy in Yeloow shirt clearly never watched the combine where he was the best shooting big man at combine
No
They shouldn't change who they are. They're a super young team that got the #1 seed and lost in the playoffs to a top 3 player.
The last thing to do is change your identity. ZE might still be a good pick late, but he's not a focal point.
