GET UP | “Victor Wembanyama is special talent”- Alan Hahn believes Spurs can become next NBA dynasty
very long time going back to the 2020 finals meaning in the bubble we have not had repeat conference winners in either the east or the West meaning no team has even made it to the NBA finals in consecutive Seasons since the Warriors made it five straight years from 2015 through 2019 so we take that into account particularly with Denver a team that we all thought might have been at the beginning of some great run getting knocked out as they did people are saying dynasties in the NBA are dead are those people right yes they are because the league has continued to create rules in the collective bargaining agreement that is making it more and more difficult to build those super teams that we saw built over the previous two decades and that is something that the owners don’t want they want parody is it good for the league that’s another conversation to have but they have pretty much killed the dynasty era can I throw that and say I thoroughly disagree uh and let me tell you why the I think we have the at the end of the super team era meaning the manufactured a whole bunch of guys get together and decide we want to play together era but basketball has always been about dynasties long before this stuff was going on those dynasties always however were built around one person so that person was Bill Russell that person was Larry Bird that person was Magic Johnson that person was Michael Jordan that person was Tim Duncan so the question is who will be the next one I believe that someone will become that person and will make themselves evident soon quick push back there was no cap situation like we had today that even when you draft well like the Warriors did now it’s harder to keep your own players because you could draft three straight years and get three guys that you want like the Thunder did like all these other teams did and you can get yourself guys that are all supermax players here’s the problem can’t keep them because of the the new apron that’s coming in and all that stuff it is keeping you from even keeping your own players because of this these rules are in place now that are going to make it difficult to even draft well and keep your own players and that’s the problem I have with it you are going to need one Superstar to build around but it’s almost impossible to keep teams like this together when you’re that good Austin he he’s making Fair points uh but to your point greeny it it’s hard to say a dynasty can’t be done again I mean you can never tell what talent is going to lead uh we don’t know first off when we talk about Tim Duncan they didn’t win every year okay so just because Denver didn’t win this year doesn’t mean that they can’t come back and make some changes this summer and win next year and then now we’re suddenly back talking is it a dynasty again is the are the Warriors of Dynasty would we count that as a dynast absolutely won three right okay so four four yeah correct so you know we don’t know where Minnesota’s headed uh they have a lot of those guys locked in for the next four or five years uh you know I think dynasties are dead just until they’re alive again somebody’s going to come along just throughout history we’ve always had a team or a player emerge we’re looking for that right now uh Victor that team’s obviously very far away uh it’s good for the league it is yeah it’s fair these last six years are an anomaly all right you have to go back to the seven for the last time that we saw a stretch like this where we didn’t have even a repeat Champion that is not that you don’t make a lot of money betting on things that never or almost never happen someone will emerge is that someone going to be Victor wanyama is that someone going to be Ant Edwards who will be the next great one who will be the one who becomes the next the heir to the legitimate heir to what those guys have been in the past someone will because in basketball someone always does yeah you know I know you talked about it’s hard to keep the players but when we talk about the Spurs you just mentioned Victor wiama he’s 20 M the Spurs have the fourth pick and the eighth pick this season not like in the future and they have the most pick second most picks right behind OKC in the fut chill chill CH this draft is I get it I get it with this draft class I’m going to be there at the desk moniker I am doing interviews yes perfect well both be at the draft but think about it the Warriors you just mentioned that dynasty they had three losing Seasons when they drafted Steph Curry I know he got injured I know he dealt with a lot but the Spurs could be a few seasons away because of the impact Victor wanyama has to having success and success that’s sustainable if as long as we are not solely defining Dynasty by going back to back the nuggets are coming back the nuggets are not done they’re not cooked they ran into they looked in the mirror what a Tim Conley built team right like but I firmly believe that this team will have more intensity more more fervor more fire because of this run but I don’t think the nuggets are going anywhere nickol yic he can play basketball as long as he wants his game is not PR predicated on athleticism and yes we’re waiting for wimy I think that’s fine but like yoke is still a problem in the league look basketball because of its nature one player can have a greater impact on a team success than can happen in any sport including football including Patrick Mahomes or any other so that player always emerges we’re just waiting to see who it is to your point maybe it will be yic heon three MVPs it has to be Nicole at this point but only one we don’t Define these things by MVP I know but he’s the best player in the NBA right now player dynasties exist because LeBron just did one I mean eight was it eight finals in 10 years Dy let me take a quick break on that thought as we continue is jayen brunson’s co-star already on his roster or do the Knicks need to make a big trade to be a championship Contender Stephen A and kg Kaitlyn Clark and the fever hosting the Sun as they just continue to play them in the Liberty the entire time in her first year but Drea no question about it she looked the most comfortable that she has in her four games and this is exactly what we saw from Caitlyn Clark Comfort on the floor she handled the pressure of the Connecticut Sun specifically D Carrington so much better than she did in game one she had eight points in the first quarter but then this happens down she goes we’ll show it to you again Monica it’s the left ankle that rolls awkwardly and she’s in a lot of pain yeah and Ankle rolls are tough but she was able to power through this one I’m sure she’s getting a ton of treatment on that from last night as they prepare for more games this weekend yeah first thought is this is just what nobody needs as she’s smashing the bench there as you see fever up by three at the half she would come back in the second half and again Drea she looked very good yeah great sign for Caitlyn again reading the defense well here with the hesitation and then exploding to the rim I thought she did a much better job getting in the paint this game also and then look at them on the fast break off the defense how about this bam great sign for Caitlyn one and the Indiana Fever two because they are starting to play and know where she is on the floor that drop off pass from El Erica wheeler was beautiful and then she takes it strong there she had 17 points in the end this comes down to to this play Fever down by two inbounding with one last chance 11 seconds to go oh and aiyah Boston just can’t quite get it to drop and that’s how it ends so the Sun get the win and the fever still looking for their first win of the Season Andrea you were there doing studio and everything for us last night take us through that last play where they had the chance to tie it first of all let me start by saying this one that is not an easy layup to make a Leah Boston is a center she’s coming from outside of the three-point line she has to evade Alysa Thomas in doing so she’s at the front of the rim and now has to try and put English on the layup to finish it’s not an easy layup to finish so let’s just get that out of the way as far as the play goes it’s beautiful because Caitlyn’s impact on the floor opens up the driving lane for Aaliyah Boston not only Caitlyn coming off with the handoff but you have Kelsey Mitchell in the corner so it’s hard for the defense to help right the combination of Caitlyn and Kelsey Mitchell on the floor will open opportunities for their teammates two Defenders on the handoff go with Caitlyn Clark that’s why Leah Boston can make that spin move and and attack the basket so the impact of Caitlyn and Kelsey Mitchell on the floor opens things up I miss doing women’s sports with you we don’t get to do it as often as we used to um so here’s the thing Caitlin Clark is going to be fine yeah okay there’s two things that stand out to me she just played this team right and so she understands the athleticism the footwork the speed of D Carrington and she’s just in her fourth WNBA game as a professional athlete even as a rookie she’s been guarded by the best players so far she’s still drawing double teams and I thought Indiana did a better job of playing fast thought in her first few games too much pounding a rock this is not Iowa Part B Varsity version this is WNBA basketball she’s moving faster her teammates are doing a better job of finding her she’s getting looks off the move where she doesn’t have to work as hard and so it’s only up from here this was a great sign her most offici night turnovers were down let me just say this too because we’re talking about the Indiana Fever and we have the Pacers that are playing in the Eastern Conference F right both teams question marks about their defense a ton of pace and speed offensively so Indiana fans that are watching the Pacers just go ahead and translate to the fever because you’re going to see very similar things with these two organizations yeah and unfortunately the fever are 0 and four the Pacers certainly hoping they’re not that in their next round as they take on Boston beginning ton night let me segue that back into the NBA then and let’s make note of something that [Music] is for that up for for my I bu morning [Music] [Music] speee for good morning n minut I don’t
