Can the Kings acquire a big name without including Keegan Murray in the deal?

Can the Kings acquire a big name without including Keegan Murray in the deal?

in the meantime I mentioned the Keegan Murray problem and I think there is a Keegan Murray problem and let me explain and I do this without much inside information this is not one of the times where I’m trying to sneak you guys info that I know that I’m not allowed to sneak you you know I’m not trying to be sneaky here this is just a thought exercise which we will often do in the offseason if you’re the Sacramento Kings it’s incredibly tempting I think if you’re Monty McNair to or maybe he’s not tempted at all I don’t know but I’d be tempted to look around everything to listen to the fan base you made the playoffs last year you made the play in this year and you watch Oklahoma City you watch Minnesota you watch all these other teams Indiana having postseason success and you couldn’t have gotten much better years as we talked about yesterday than you got from dearen Fox and damont sabonis they’re giving you everything they pretty much possibly can again not perfect not perfect but they’re earning their money top six in points or top eight in points number one in steals for Fox number one in rebounds number six in assists shooting 60% for domos defensive player of the year vote let’s not forget that but it’s what’s around them now I don’t know who but I do know that there’s some pretty big names that both could have and could come to Sacramento in a trade if you’re involving Keegan Murray if you’re involving Keegan Murray you’re gonna bring a big name especially when you group it with some draft picks and maybe a herder and maybe a Mitchell or maybe a Keon Ellis or maybe a Tre I don’t know but doesn’t appear like they want to do that and when I talk to most Kings fans they don’t want to do it either nobody ever talks about trading Fox at sabonis because it’s highly unlikely but when the idea of trading Keegan Murray comes up anytime I’m having a conversation in person or online they say well I mean what if you had to include Keegan Mur for no no no not uh-uh not Keegan no way I will give you Barnes herder Davon and Lyles for your stud but not Keegan and that that’s the oldest trap in the book we’ll take multiple of our players that we either don’t like or don’t like a lot and we’re going to give them to you for just one of your really good players and that’s just not how it works other GMS get paid too any trade for a good player a really good player 98% of the time if not HED it’s got to hurt a little bit it’s got to hurt and when you do it like look at the sabonis trade well what’ you have to give up you gave up Tyrese Halbert it hurt a lot and by the way they gave up Damonte sabonis or Tyrese hurn it hurt but then it’s like okay but what do you do and the reason why the Keegan Murray thing is a problem and I’m saying problem in air quotes is because it seems like it’s a problem of timing he’s just 23 years old he’ll be 24 in August and when you look at his progression he went from 12.2 to 15.2 points per game that’s three points he went up a full rebound he went up a half an assist he imp improved his free throw percentage his field goal percentage is pretty much on the dot and what we really saw this year that’s a little more difficult to uh quantify is he established himself as a plus Defender not all NBA yet but definitely a plus Defender arguably the best on ball defender on the Sacramento King and I think what Monty and friends are banking on is hey we already have a big three Fox sabonis and Keegan Murray that’s our big three we just we need to add a fourth piece but he’s just not there yet and understandably so by the way and your third piece is on a rookie contract which helps quite a bit if you want to get into uh analytics he added almost a full point to his defensive win shares from last year he added almost a full point to his win shares overall from last year and he doubled his defensive box plus minus now I won’t get into the minutia of all that but let’s just say his defensive metrics look better see everybody’s afraid everybody’s afraid that if we trade Keegan Murray what if he blows up can’t trade Keegan Murray okay but then we have to understand that that is perhaps a good problem but it’s a problem because now you have to wait on that timeline I’m not saying they can’t make other moves but we as fans have to have reasonable expectations there’s a reason you want to trade Kevin herder there’s a reason you want to trade Harrison Barnes there’s a reason why you’d be okay trading uh Davon Mitchell or Trey Lyles there’s people out there I’ve talked to that said under no circumstances can you trade Keon Ellis here is an undeniable fact that matches 99% of every fan base out there they overvalue their own players and they sell themselves they sell themselves on how the players that aren’t fitting or aren’t liked here would benefit the other team when in reality you’ve got to switch the positions so take sabonis and fox out of the equation let’s just use Keegan Murray what if you traded Keegan Murray to team X and you got four of their rotational players you got their Harrison Barnes and their Kevin herder maybe a couple of draft picks you’d Riot so the only choice here if you’re deciding to ride with Keegan Murray and I’m not convinced by the way the kings are I think if somebody comes in and gives them some sort of Godfather offer let me let me say for example if the Brooklyn Nets decided they want Keegan Murray as a mecal Bridges uh uh uh uh uh replacement and they they asked for Keegan Marine a couple of draft picks and then you know maybe a Barnes or whoever for salary filler you say no if you’re the king I mean I’m asking you straight up if Brooklyn offered mecal bridges for Harrison Barnes Keegan Murray and a top five protected first run pick do you take it honestly do you take it and now you’ve got Harrison Barnes at the three maybe you resigned monk you put him at the two Fox at the one you got to figure out your power forward is that a trade you take I’m going to get a lot I guarantee you I’m G to get a lot of nose over that and I’m telling you for a fact if the Kings offered Keegan Murray Harrison Barnes in a first round pick for meal Bridges from the Nets the Nets would say no now I’m not saying they’d be right to say no but they would say no and thus the overvaluation so it’s kind of a situation where I’m not trying to lecture us as a fan base it’s just where we’re at we can’t have our cake and eat it too if Keegan muray is borderline Untouchable for you like Fox and sabonis then you have to be patient for him developing and if you’re going to be patient with him developing then you have to understand that any other moves this team makes odds are going to be on the periphery I think they have one Julius Randall uh that type I’m talking about salary not Player move in them that doesn’t affect those big three but that that’s it that’s it it’s an it’s an interesting problem to have and the hope there is that you bet on Keegan Murray and you ride it out and and if he takes a jump offensively and defensively matching his jump last year I think a lot of people are going to be very very happy just like I know people have been very very happy switching to all electric with my friends American

The Kings need to get better this summer. Can they make a notable roster move without including Keegan Murray in trade packages? Carmichael Dave dives into it all below:

  1. Kings cant trade Keegan. Kings already traded a young star in tyrees and that blew up in their face

  2. We should trade Murray (a potentially good player) for a known good player. Murray is solid, but doesn't seem to be on pace to be anything more than that.

  3. I think it's possible they have some pretty great players who really don't play as much that can be a asset to another team not just Keeg. But we could land a solid baller with a multiplayer trade deal. I'd rather free up the cap trade package for a draft pick and sign a free agent that fits what we are doing best on top of this years pick.

  4. There's a line. I'd willing to give up Keegan for a best player on a championship team, if it's just for another role player like Mikal Bridges, a c-tier star like Ingram or Markkanen or even B team star like Donovan Mitchell, because it just creates another hole you need fill. Keegan has more value than Mikal Bridges. Otherwise, just hold onto him and wait for the right deal.

  5. Mikal Bridges isn't good enough of a player to trade Keegan for imo so I feel like that was a bad example. If a player on the caliber level of Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum were available then I would pack Keegan's bag for him.

  6. Trade Keegan he is not a future all star or close to it. He is what he is he is not Tyrese Halliburton does not effect the game no where near as much
