Did the Pacers blow a chance at winning the series? Stephen A. says NOT SO FAST! 👀 | First Take

the Celtics escape with a victory over the Pacers in game one Jason Tatum scored 36 points including 10 and OT after Jaylen Brown’s tying three-pointer with 6 seconds remaining regulation and Boston rallied for a 133 128 win over the Pacers in the East semifinals now uh the Pacers had multiple critical turnovers down the stretch of Regulation that ultimately led to Browns heroics that sent the game to OT here’s Rick carile on the end of regulation this loss is is totally on me with 10 seconds in regul we should have just taken the time out Advanced the ball um and found a way to get it in and and made a free throw or two and and ended the game was there instruction of foul before that round three even though there wasn’t really a chance to do so yes but he caught the ball and he was face up so Pascal decided to lay off which was you know I understand you know that’s probably the right decision you don’t want to give up a four-point play so um you know look a lot of things had to go wrong for us and right for them they did and so you know we got to own it and we got to get ready for Thursday so LeBron was up watching Stephen A because he posted and yall still want to know why I would foul up three every single time all right I say you’re up first year do you feel like the Pacers blew any chance of winning this series I’m not going to say any chance I’m not going to go that far I think that their offense um can score on anybody they can put up points um I expected them to to lose last night’s game I didn’t expect it to go into overtime uh there were 22 times in Indiana possessions ended in turnovers that’s very very sloppy we understand that but we got to remember how prolific this offense is the offense averaged like 123 points per 100 possessions this season they’re the only offense that shot 50% from the field this season collectively as a team nobody else in the NBA did that Hal Burton is showing that he doesn’t shy away from the big stage he shows up he responds um you just look at them from an offensive standpoint and you know they could score why does that matter because Boston is one of those teams that simply drive you crazy too much one-on-one basketball not enough movement at times not enough sharing of the basketball one time it’s Tatum’s turn another time it’s Jaylen Brown’s turn you see them making difficult shots but you’re asking yourself where’s the ball movement why can’t you get yourself an easy shot you really really think this kind of ball is going to deliver you a championship once again they blew a double digit lead this is what Boston does and so I’m saying that there’s no way in hell that any of us can sit here and say definitively that the Pacers blew a chance of winning the series when we see how haphazard Boston can be it’s not so much about looking and applauding the Indiana Pacers you have to recognize they missed a grand opportunity and it will likely come back to ha to haunt them because I certainly have them losing this series but we’ve seen the Boston Celtics on many occasions just play inexplicable and you’re just looking at them it’s like what are you doing what are you doing they can beat themselves they can get in their own way and against an Indiana Pacers team with the potency offensively who by the way can has shown they could play some defense from time to time as poor as as their defens has look this year obviously they’ve improved when it really really counts you just never know what Boston because Boston can get in its own way that’s why I say they didn’t blow a chance of winning the series I can’t say that after one game yeah I will uh because I thought that Indiana was probably going to lose six anyway and now they got to beat him five times yeah I mean this is a horrendous loss and we’ve seen these kind of passes in the past when you throw the ball towards their basket on an inbounds play you know worthy did it against the Celtics in the 84 finals and they lost game two Isaiah did it against the Celtics in 87 and bird made the great steal and threw the board to Dennis Johnson for the lamp throw the ball auson you the throw the ball forward if he stolen they only got eight seconds to run down the court and th a half Hazard three so the whole play is a disaster but and I Steven’s right you can’t count on the Celtics too many threes sometimes they lose game twos they’re spotty but porzingis is returning he’s going to play some they’re 4-0 on the road in the postseason I find it very difficult that you are going to recover when you had this game when they were up 115 to 110 and they were up 117 114 with the ball 8 seconds to go on the road that’s a game you must win I don’t see him beating him now four more times yeah listen this is going to be a competitive series what we’ve done all playoffs Longs is is discredit the Pacers and they’ve had their reasons the Bucks weren’t healthy uh we know the New York ended up getting injured and these guys have continued to play well but they are a high level Basketball Club they play at a pace that gets people frazzled you had Celtics playing Pacers basketball the entire game for the most part a lot of Elvis early shots the game that we like to see so this is going to be a series especially when they back to the Pacers we know they they have a great home stin there and they dominate home the issue is last night is a pivotal game it was their chance to steal home court going back to that home court advantage or not home court advantage going back to home when they go back to Indiana them losing that game now you have to figure out a way to Muster that same type of energy and performance I mean look at their starting lineup every single guy was in double digits played well you have to hope to get that again and the production Off the Bench just to be in the the competition with Boston um I don’t have them winning the series I I think Boston wins I had him in six um it could be five we’ll see it’s hard to trust Boston we haven’t seen them play great basketball yet uh so much so that I’m watching this game last night when the game ends I’m thinking are the Pacers this good or is Boston just a little bit are we are we are we overhyping them are we putting them on a pedestal that they don’t deserve to be on yet do you feel better or worse about the Celtics after game one well I’m disgusted with them because I think the offense looks awful so somebody’s got to say it so I’m going to say it their offense looks awful um and I and I’ve been on the record unapologetically so as much as I respect uh Y joula and and and the job that he’s done they did have the best record in basketball and I get all of that I’ve stated for the record I think if eay udoka was still a coach of the Boston Celtics they would be Champions by now they possibly would have won it last year that’s how I feel about them there is a difference between what emay udoka had the Boston Celtics looking like and what they’ve looked like offensively over the last couple of years you just see too much halfhazard play now they’re the type of team that can blow you know almost blow the game and it takes overtime to win game one then they come out and they stink up the joint in game two and then go to Indiana and win two straight this is the kind of team Boston is you don’t know what you’re going to get but I think when you see teams a team like Minnesota that’s so tenacious defensively with a with a burgeoning superstar when you see Kyrie Irving or Luca donic in Dallas and how the addition of Gafford and PJ Washington has really elevated their level of play and what have you you know that if you’re the Boston Celtics you can’t afford to be a bit haphazard there has to be a model of consistency and dependency to some degree that I don’t see from them and that is a problem then you got to take into account the mounting pressure you got a $300 million play in Jaylen Brown gota earn that money now okay you’ve been about six of the last eight Conference Finals if you’re jayen Brown you’ve been the five of the last seven if you’re Jason Tatum how many damn times are y’all going to knock on on the door before you ultimately are able to kick it in these are these are Boston Celtics that we’re talking about here this isn’t you know somebody else Boston Celtics Los Angeles Lakers two more story franchise and basketball anals yet since the 2008 2009 season you got Golden State with four titles you got the Miami Heat with two you even got the Cleveland Cavaliers with one even though Miami and Cleveland both have a title Boston doesn’t have one since the 2008 season and you’re looking at them you say okay it’s been enough time now to knock on the door that much but can’t get over the hump that pressure comes with everything else we’ve been talking about for this particular season is Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown going to answer the call it really really comes down to that yeah I can’t worry about the Minnesota Dallas series yet for them you got to worry about it one step at a time let me see now they made a big deal about it last night they’ve been terrible in these game twos Miami 23 field 23 threes I think it was Austin and of course we know what the Cavs did a couple weeks ago they killed him if Boston falls apart in this game too coming up when they’ve been pre-warned that they’re going to get killed if they lose another game too Jaylen Brown told Scott Van Pelt last night yeah we’ve heard all the noise about game twos if they then lay another egg on tomorrow night now I got the same issues that you guys do with the Celtics I don’t trust them but if they do that then I’m going to say hold on now I mean your whole the whole world knows you can’t win a game too and you’re lucky to win a game one you got to come out and you got to play they had the best thing happened to them last night they were fortunate they won the game and they know they look at the mirror you know we we were we were very good so when you’re not very good and you win in a playoff series that’s a big Advantage so from that standpoint go ahead there are some things to PE from it doggy and Austin in this regard Drew holiday was exceptional defensively he was all over the place give him a lot of credit where do that was a big big deal that’s a plus we got to get that Jason Tatum in the overtime I mean I think it was only Rondo that scored 12 points in an overtime period back in 2012 outside of that it was a big big deal those six straight points by Jason Tatum was a big deal but keep in mind that prior to that we would have been raking him through the co because he had shot two for 10 in the fourth quarter and early in overtime before he had that many spurt to ultimately close the deal you’re looking for him and he was nowhere to be found when it really really counted those are the kind of things that you have to look at because again Indiana can make you pay offensively because we know they can score the ball yeah uh and just a reminder that with growing optimism that Christ opsp zingis could return as soon as game four which would be Monday I mean we don’t know how healthy he would be but that would be huge [Music]

  1. As a defender all distractions count as defense %50 and %100 mental that’s why being a great defender is harder than being a great scorer

  2. Pacers have been great all year except against lottery teams. Check the wins and losses. It’s wild

  3. Haliburton is trash they been hyping him up all season and in clutch moments he has no clue The pacers need to be up 15 just to get a win and his handle as worse as browns. If you put enough pressure on him he’ll lose his dribble and turn it over every time

  4. ESPN has spent the past 2 weeks complaining about how the Celtics haven’t been battle tested in a crunch time game. They pulled through last night and espn didn’t mention that 1 time this entire show instead they have Stephen A Nitpick for negatives of their performance from the game. im starting to dislike first take..

  5. I dunno how you stuff up that inbounds pass. Put a body on the Celtics player and throw it to the preffered side or over the back. Basic level stuff. Your pass is a straight pass to a player running to the baseline? Couldn't have picked a worse option.

  6. Why are these comments saying hate for the Celtics? The media has given little to no respect to the pacers this entire playoff run. The last series people said the pacers were getting swept and they won. All that matters is how you perform when you’re there and the pacers have a chance

  7. Pacers learned their lesson. They will take this as a positive since they are a resilient team. They will win the series.

  8. Inexperience rear its head! Players panicked!! Coulda woulda shoulda! COACH:You have to understand the game, your point guard should understand the play and the players should know what the play should be. All five guys should know. Inexperience! Boston will re-evaluate themselves!
