Knicks WANT Mikal Bridges per Bill Simmons | New York Knicks Rumors, News

are the New York Knicks planning to pull off a blockbuster trade to land Mel Bridges this off season we’re going to break that down on today’s show as Bill Simmons thinks the Knicks want to trade for Mel Bridges and they want to do it so bad that they are willing to overpay we’ll talk about that around the corner but first I got to make sure everybody watching today’s video is following me over on are going to pull off a trade to land Mel Bridges this off season they are going to have to pay there is a New York tax always when the Knicks want to trade for a superstar and with the Knicks in the Nets not making a trade in the last 41 years Leon Rose knows he’s going to have to overpay to land bridges and that’s exactly what Bill Simmons thinks is going to happen and he thinks the trade is going to get done this was the quote from Bill in his podcast just a couple of days ago he said quote they have a lot of options when speaking about the New York Knicks I really think they’re going to get Mel Bri is as the big Target I think that’s who they want I think they’re going to try and overpay because I think they want those four Villanova guys together and I don’t think they want like a major star they want somebody like that and as you know this is music to my ears you all know how I feel about the Nova Knicks I was all in on trying to get Jaylen Brunson back in January kind of like Leon Rose was when he may or may not have been tampering I was all in on Josh Hart we told you you guys Dante Devan chenzo was going to sign with the Knicks back in June of last year and the last piece the last piece for the Nova Knicks is Mel Bridges and he is once again a top Target for me this off season I just think that when you have four guys that one like each other as people like playing together you’re willing to do things more as a team and willing to go that extra mile to have success and all four of these players have had success in college and in the league by themselves but together when you’re play with your best friends everybody knows you’re going to play a little bit harder for your brother I will say this though Bridges did take a step back this year for the Nets he was much better in 2022 and 2023 compared to last year this year still putting up 19.6 points per game giving you over four boards just under four assists but it was the efficiency that kind of took a little bit of a step back for Mr Mel Bridges just shot 43.6 from the field still really good from downtown as he was above 37% but the shot difficulty really went up he was looked to be more of that 1A scoring option for Brooklyn and I just don’t think that’s the best role for him I think it’d be a great three and I think it’d be a good two and I think if he came to the Knicks he wouldn’t have to shoulder so much isolation scoring responsibilities which I think kind of took away from his efficiency but we saw last year when he was traded from Phoenix to Brooklyn and he had more of a burden to score he was able to do so he averaged 26 points per game shot 47.5% from the field and once again north of 37% so he can do that if he needs to one thing I love about bridges is he plays all the time he played an 82 games this year he played an 82 games last year 83 games really 82 games in 2021 and when there was only 72 games in 2020 he played in all of those games and we know how the injuries are for the New York Knicks right now I would love to add a player that is always available you can kind of see in this graphic here now on screen that the shot diet and the shot profile kind of changed a little bit for Mel Bridges this past season in 2022 his catch and shoot three-point percentage 38.8 dropped a little bit this year his pullup three-point percentage last year was two percentage higher two percentage points higher than what it was this year his pull up two percentage was really where he took a major step back last year he was super efficient at getting to a spot in the mid-range area and letting it go knocked it down at 47% this year he only knock it down at 40% was good around the rim this year and last year 67% and 66% this year and he was still good from 10 to 16 ft but with him having to take tougher shots and more pullup mid-range jumpers that definitely caused his overall just shot quality and field goal percentage to go down and we see that here he shot 6.2% of his shots in 2022 were pullup threes that number almost doubles and goes to 10.1% this year so the reason I’m bringing all this stuff up is because I think when he plays next to Brunson he plays next to OG and Dante and Hart he can just be truly who he is which is a solid Defender a guy that knocks down catch and shoot threes runs corner to corner and if he gets attacked on a close out he can put it on the deck get to his spot and rise up and I also love how good of a corner three-point shooter he is shot over 48% from the left corner last year 40% from the right corner last year and 39% from the left corner this year and 41% from the right corner this year as well run the corners you got OG in one corner who’s a 40% shooter from that spot bridg is in the other Corner who also does that same as Sten chenzo more space for Jaylen Brunson to operate Bridges would be a perfect fit in my opinion on the wing for the Nixon offense but I will say I do think his defense is a bit overrated there was a lot of talk when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns that he was an all NBA type of Defender and to be honest I never saw that and I don’t think he is that type of player but I do see him as a guy that is above average on that end and he has the length to defend multiple positions with a Wings span of almost 7 feet tall I like what he does on defense I don’t think he’s a stopper but when he is your second best Wing Defender behind ogan and Obi and you still got Josh Hart and Dante dienzo he is a weapon on that side of the floor and he definitely would have helped the Knicks in that Indiana Pacers series if they had him on that side on defense to help out you look at a potential New York Knicks lineup with Brunson and Hart or Devan chenzo and Mel Bridges and ogn and Obi and Isaiah hartenstein I truly believe that that is a team in the Eastern Conference that can compete to win the conference and get to the NBA finals Brunson Hart stenzo Bridges an anobi hartenstein that’s one of the best top six of any 30 teams in the association and his contract matches up really well with the Knicks in their timeline and the fact that he’s not like on a super max only making $23 million in 2024 $24.9 million in 2025 that fits in well and I think it makes the trade doable but if the trade is going going to get done for the people that are Die Hard Julius Randall fans I have bad news for you because I believe that Randall will be involved in any deal that brings back Mel Bridges to the New York Knicks one because he has a salary that matches Bridges salary and a trade and two if you’re giving up Bridges you want a good player in return and that is exactly what Julius Randall is and I remember we talked about it during the regular season who’s better Randall or Bridges and I was honestly surprised the results but uh we’ll find out how you guys are thinking in a second Bleacher Report came up with a trade idea that set Bridges to be a part of the V Nova Knicks and this was the package not my idea this is Bleacher Report so if the trade stinks go yell at them they have Julius Randall the number 24 overall pick this year a first round pick next year that is unprotected and two second round picks so ultimately Randall two first round picks and two second round picks for br would you make the trade I want to hear from all the real ones in the comment section if you were Leon Rose and the Brooklyn Net said you know what we’ll give you Bridges but we need Randle two first round picks and two second round picks would you do the deal type A for accept type D for decline for me this is an easy accept I would make this deal very very quickly and I wouldn’t give them much time to think about it again but to be quite honest with you I don’t think that this gets it done I don’t necessarily think this is even close to the package that would have the Brooklyn Nets even thinking about accepting the offer and there are multiple not want to see Bridges walk from Brooklyn to Madison Square Garden and help that team potentially win a championship for the first time since 1972 1973 and on top of that the Brooklyn Nets know that the New York Knicks have so many draft picks that they can offer they Knicks can trade eight first round picks right now if they want to one of the highest numbers in the NBA you tell me the Nets are only going to want two first round picks for Bridges maybe they want like three or four and they want the protected picks and maybe we could talk about that as a potential Avenue we can disc we can go down but if you know I’ve got a lot of draft picks and I haven’t done a trade with you in 41 years you’re my cross town rival I use that very Loosely and I’m holding the missing piece potentially to your Championship run they’re going to make you overpay and if I’m the Nets and the Nicks ask me Marshall what do you need to get this trade done number one I’m telling you I need dece McBride I’m not saying Duce McBride is a needle mover for the Nets I think he is a needle mover for the Knicks and what he does on defense coming off the bench being able to score spot up and create instant offense but and that’s why I think the Nets would want him just cuz everything I just said how good of a player he is he just finished his third season he’s on a deal that makes him one of the cheapest players in the NBA over the next three years and he had a hell of a season and he had a big playoffs and he’s cheap and he’s cost controlled any team that is making a trade with the Knicks this offseason is going to ask miles McBride and you know what it’s s cuz I want him to be on this team but it’s of a good problem to have when other teams want your players it means you’re doing something right inh housee do the Knicks even want to trade Mel to the Knicks that’s what it comes down to the NS don’t care what Bridges thinks the Nets don’t care what Bill Simmons thinks NS don’t care what Leon Rose and Tom Tibido want if they don’t want to trade him to the Knicks they’ll ship him out to Houston a team that made an offer for him last trade deadline I really do think if a Bridges trade is going to happen where he ends up wearing a Knicks uniform it has to to be a three team trade a three- team trade makes the most sense for me and one that I have kind of thought of is there are three teams in the Eastern Conference that want to make a trade how about the Knicks get Mel Bridges the Brooklyn Nets get Trey Young and the Atlanta Hawks get Julius Randle the Hawks get to build around the first round pick that they’re getting as well as to jonte Murray the young small forward that they have as well with Randall you get to build around that one guard Brooklyn gets their point guard of the future In Trey young still get to keep some young players that you have in cam Johnson as well as Dorian finny Smith and the New York Nicks get Bridges and we’ll figure out where the picks go after that but I think this as a baseline for a three- team deal makes a lot of sense and as much as I would love it to happen I still doubt that it does um Bill Simmons can predict it they can talk about it everywhere but for me I just don’t see it happening I love for it to happen I’m going to talk about it when other people talk about it that’s my job maybe I’m just being pessimistic
