Zach Edey Is Heading To The Raptors In This LATEST Mock Draft

bronny James made the most headlines at the NBA draft combined but another player who shared the spotlight is Canadian Center Zach Edy and in this latest major mock draft he’s projected to go to the Raptors at 19th overall so in this video we reinvestigate if this would be a good pick by Toronto let’s get into it yes there’s certainly been a buzz around the Toronto Raptor fan base and Community regarding the possibility of the Raptor selecting Zach Edy with the 19th overall pick and based on mock draft that we’ve seen around the NBA there’s certain projections that he’s going to be ahead of the 19th selection rap have no chance of getting him there there’s also some mock draft that suggest he could be available for the Raptors also at 31st overall but in the latest Bleacher Report mock draft at 19th overall they have slated the Raptors to take Zack Edy in this position and even looking at other mock drafts around the NBA Universe the NBA media Universe the Raptors very much are looking towards getting a Center and to be honest I just don’t really see it at all and we’re going to cover why in today’s video but before we go any further reminder this is Amateur hour Sports this is a YouTube channel that’s completely dedicated to giving you Toronto Raptors news coverage and Analysis especially analysis focus on the NBA Draft before we get to that in the end of June so for more content all throughout the offseason make sure you are subscribed to the channel and drop a like if you enjoyed this one along the way it really does make a difference in supporting the channel but where we see some of the biggest headlines coming out of the draft combine at least once you get out of the shadow of bronny James that he’s casting all over the rest of the prospects in the pool when you get to the other news around the players in this draft pool Zack Ed’s name does come up a lot especially when it comes to the Toronto Raptors mainly because well he’s Canadian the Raptors also do need to add some additional big man help Zack Ed can provide that and just for you know the Casual Raptors fan perhaps you watching this video Zach Ed is just a household name for you at this point he’s backtack college player of the year best player in the nation and you’re thinking hey there’s a possibility of bringing somebody who has that level of talent to win that award on back-to-back years somebody who played at the fever World Cup last year and was a bronze medalist with Canada just a household name and it’s exciting to see the possibility of that player who just happens to also be Canadian ending up with the Toronto Raptors in that position and the headline that did come out of the draft combat aside from the fact that in socks this guy is 7 fo4 and has a 7-Eleven wingspan is the fact that he knocked down 14 of 25 movement threes in certain drills there which could open some eyes to the possibility of Zach gidi maybe developing a shot maybe spacing his game out and if hey if Zach gidi has any sign of being able to develop a three-point game consistently for the NBA that is going to significantly boost his draft stock but even though the article here mentions that this is going to help improve his draft stock I haven’t really seen that in the latest batch of mock drafts if anything I would say Zach Ed stock has moved downwards a little bit I haven’t seen a bigger consensus or a greater consensus to Zach Ed’s draft position overall based on these three-point shooting numbers but from the videos we’ve seen the highlights we’ve seen maybe it’s a little bit of evidence towards him spacing the floor but also when it comes to draft combine videos you know it’s a very small sample we’re not getting the full picture that NBA Scouts are getting and I like in these NBA draft combine videos a lot to when you see offseason workout videos like when you see a workout mix of Ben Simmons hitting threes in the gym in the summer and then he comes to the NBA and still doesn’t shoot threes it’s kind of like that I think we’re past the Ben’s workout tapes but I think that’s the greatest example on a year-to-year basis of yeah it’s cool to see that in these videos but overall doesn’t really mean that much and maybe it doesn’t really mean that much when you consider what Zach Ed actually produced in college the numbers that he produced are astonishing and here there a reason he won player of the year for the second consecutive season here averaging 25 points per game putting up as well 12 rebounds per game 2.2 blocks with outstanding efficiency 62% shooting from the field decent free throw percentage for his size is going to hopefully continue to improve in the NBA 71% there but maybe signs of hey if you can hit 71% there can we get him to like 30 something per in the NBA well you know I’ve showcased the efficiency here but the reality is yes he hit 14 of 25 movement threes in the NBA draft combine but he also attempted two threes in his entire college basketball career not really something that’s indicative somebody who’s willing to space the floor or able to space the floor when it comes to Zach Edy as a prospect we largely know exactly who he is we know what he brings we know his skills we know his deficiencies like we certainly know he can protect the rim as an interior Defender he’s going to be great we certainly know on the inside he’s got the post moves he’s got the height and the length to be effective in scoring the inside what we don’t know is well there’s something we do know we know he’s going to be a liability defensively out in the perimeter in the open space what we don’t know is to what extent of a liability he is going to be in those positions that is what Scouts are going to try and have to navigate here look the shooting look it’s promising it’s cool do I expect that to translate to the NBA at some point like I just I just really can’t see it would love it for him I just really cannot see it defensiv we know we can defend the rim but it’s just the open space it’s him getting picked on in the perimeter you know this isn’t the NCAA there is a three in the key penalty on defense that does not exist in the NCAA where you know you can just have him camped in the paint and you can play zone that’s something that a lot of college teams deploy it and rightfully so but the game in the NBA is different it’s faster it’s more talented it’s more athletic the people that you’re playing it have a lot more in their bag to hurt you and their schemes the schemes are dedicated to finding your weaknesses on defense and if Zach Ed is out there that is going to be a weakness again it is just to what extent of a weakness that is going to be let alone as well for the Raptors this is not a formidable perimeter defense team it’s easier to have a player like that out there so that you can have great perimeter Defenders everywhere to kind of Usher them towards the paint to meet Z meet Zach EDI where know you can have Zack edore playing like Rudy goar Rudy goar won his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award this year and what he does and what he especially did in the Denver series to be so successful is you know he’s not guarding nicolea yish Carl Anthony towns is but he’s roaming on defense he’s playing as like that free safety on defense maybe that’s a more suitable role but is that something of the Raptors are going to be able to execute is he even going to be good enough to Warrant adjusting your entire system towards him the signs just aren’t quite there for me and for a player with so many question marks Associated I’m just not sure why the Raptors would go for him at 19th overall not to mention the position fit here the Raptors have an opportunity here to address a real positional need here and a real positional need is a backup point guard and a big Wing defender in the center position yako purle has three years left on his contract Calo Lin just signed a two-year extension yes kello linck can play as a power forward but does that create a bit of a log Jam in the forward positions is that the best fit for kello linck like I like Kellick as a backup and I do think the Raptors need to add some additional sizing into their team but to do it with the 19th overall pick when there’s an opportunity to go for a different position that I previously outlined again it just doesn’t really make a lot of sense there and as I said earlier on you know there’s other major media companies producing mock drafts suggesting the rapt could go for a center like bleach report previously had Kyle filipowski the Duke Center power forward to end up in the 19th spot to the Raptors and the current ESPN mock draft which I’d say at draft tonight is going to be the most accurate on a consistent basis from Jonathan gavone that one has Kyle filipowski ending up with the Raptors in the 19th overall position it just doesn’t really make sense to me why the Raptors would go for a center here especially one with a whole lot more questions Associated where it’s going to be difficult to even get them involved from day one because you have Pearl in the center spot you have Kelly L who can play the backup center spot it’d be confusing to go in that direction when there is again that glaring hole to go for a point guard to go for a big Wing Defender who are likely going to be very involved with the Raptors in the NBA on court from day one for Zach gidi there just isn’t really the upside there to want to work with that sort of long term so again you know I think it’s fun and I can understand the appeal here because Zach Edy the floor is so high for him the floor is very high like at the very least he’s 74 7eleven wingspan he’s got scoring potential on the inside he can protect the rim at the very least you have a specialist role set out for him where he can get like 10 minutes a game and just find some ways to be effective there look if it becomes a problem you take him out of the game if it becomes a problem to have the perimeter defense there if a team is just exposing it you you take him out of the game but at the very least there are specific ways that he can affect the game and maybe that’s something worth betting on in a not so loaded draft class where you have somebody who you almost have a guarantee of at least that sort of level for the player who has you know granted consistently grown and improved his game at the college level can he continue to do that in the NBA I see the appeal I see why Raptors fans I see why Canadian basketball fans have interest here but in the grand scope of this draft class there’s still some talented players the Raptors can take at 19th overall who have better upside and probably could give themselves bigger roles with the team from day one if the Raptors did go in the direction of Zach EDI it would likely hint at a move involving Yak of purle I just don’t see Kell in it getting traded it would likely hint at a move involving yakob purle which again just doesn’t make sense in a lot of ways Zach Ed is a downgrade to purle and a pretty severe one at that we saw how bad the Raptors looked last season when yakob purle wasn’t playing like maybe people didn’t notice his impact when he was on the floor purle but you certainly noticed it when he wasn’t on the floor so you’re probably downgrading with Edy any player you do bring in like we saw how difficult it was initially to bring in a big like purle so trying to do that again why perl’s here for three more years he’s not that old there’s still ability there he fits pretty well with the team good passer out of the high post great rim protector there’s just a whole lot of things here associated with Zach Ed ending up on the Raptors that just does not make sense to me and for that reason I do not see him ending up with the rapt at 19th overall look at 31st overall hey I’m willing to take a chance here I’m willing to find a guy here with a high floor who could be the third Center on this team so if beaka Pearl gets injured again we don’t forfeit size completely on the roster I’m okay with that I just think there’s people that are better suited for the team at 19th overall that being said I’m prepared for the event the Raptors do go in this Direction look when I make these videos I I just try to be as honest as possible with my thoughts regarding basketball topics that’s just the way this channel works that’s that’s hopefully why you know you’re involved with this channel if you’re subscribed to it that’s hopefully why there’s currently over 177,000 people subscribed to the channel this is what I do but the end you know my agenda is to support this guy I don’t have like any agenda against anybody I want all players to succeed and especially Canadian players I want them to succeed I want Zack e to succeed in the NBA I really do just not sure if the Raptors could give him the best platform to succeed first of all and I’m not sure the Raptors would have the best success with that 19th pick if they went in the direction of Zach eedi rather than another Prospect like others outlined on this channel previously such as well Devin Carter who I am a big fan of in the backup point guard position potentially for this team next season but what do you make of Zack Ed I know you guys are interested look I was it 70% of you said you would want to take Zack Edy with the 19th overall selection so clearly there’s interest there let me know why there’s interest there and why you might be interested in him in the comments down below cuz that is the end of today’s video drop a like if you enjoyed subscribe to the channel for more Raptors content check out the BET 99 1. Zach only attempting 2 threes in college is absolutely not a sign that he cant shoot threes. If you had actually watched those Purdue teams you'd know it was not Zach's job to shoot threes, his role to score in the paint and have the defense collapse in on his rim pressure to get open perimeter looks for his teammates. At the NBA level where he the whole teams offence doesn't revolve around Zach's rim pressure he'll be able to get constant looks from outside without dooming his teams chances to score.

  2. My thoughts we should trade Bruce B to fill a hole. Now the question is if you can’t draft or find a backup PF then you could play KO there is you had another serviceable C.
Needs: Backup PG, D -3 SF sized wing (OG lite) back up PF that could play a little C and last a traditional C as NBA is getting bigger again. Last we can always use more shooting and likelihood GTJ gone.

We need to fill 4 holes. 1 via trade 1 via draft and 2 via FA.

  3. Why do you believe so heavy in JP? ZE looks better on paper and has a higher upside. We should not want KO to be out backup centre.

  4. That FT% is on 7 attempts per game. Its a clear indication that he has shooting fundamentals. If you see him shoot he has a smooth release, its high above his head to it will be even harder to block with his height. The amount of shots they can have him taking in practice, the shot is going to develop IMO.

Dude… Kelly is not a center hes a back up 4… he cant bang at the center position nightly for an entire season, he had to play center last season because when Jak got hurt we literally had zero centers… The roster currently has one center and thats Jakob. a team should be 3 deep at the center position. So if someone goes down they have 2 playable centers still. Seriously, the roster imploded when Jak went down this past season, and you dont want a center?? The team currently has no back up PG and no Back up Center. I think the Raptors need to take the best player available at the 19th pick. Ideally they can fill one of the rosters holes. IMO Edey is probably one of the best players in the draft in terms of skill, 20+ years ago he'd be a first overall pick without question.. Still young 22 years old, his body is still developing, they can work on trying to improve his agilty and speed. Build some lean muscle take some weight off.

Im interested to see what the Magic do with Fultz; he could make a nice back up PG for the Raptors at the right price. Im also interested to see what happens with Jalen Smith with the Pacers, he has a player option for just over 5 mil, hasnt been getting much run in the playoffs, but showed some decent play during the regular season.. Would make nice addition to the front court depth of the Raptors at the right price. Pacers are going to be limited with what they can do after the Siakam max.

  5. If we draft Zach Edey, I will literally never quit calling for Masai to be fired. We need a guard and a primary defender. Jakob is easily the better player and on a valuable contract we can draft his replacement next year.

  6. Edey would be the best choice it would allow raptors to trade Portal. Edey can do everything Portal can and is better offensely. Also you need to think about the future and championships are probably going to need to beat the Spurs. To do that you have to stop Wemby. Edey has the size to do that and will also should be able to man handle Wemby in the post since he is stronger and weighs 90lbs more. Portal is always getting hurt and could be used for trade to get a decent return to fill in holes

  7. Everyone is worried about Zach Edey on Defence but I don't see a problem there. He can be most effective if a coach teaches his team how to master a zone defence when Edey is on the court. At the same time he can punish teams on the offensive end.In my mind I see more of an advantage than a problem if the Raptors do draft Zach Edey.

  8. Don't expect Zach Edey to simply become a superstar. Expect him to be a servicable rotation piece. If Zubac, Nurkic, Valanciunas, Kanter and more, can be rotation pieces, while mainly being interior defenders, then so can Edey. Not to mention, we need a third string center now that Jontay Porter got himself banned. Picking Edey at 19 would be a STEAL
