Lakers Re-Signing Update on D’Angelo Russell! | + BIG Coaching Update on JJ Reddick/Sam Cassell

[Music] welcome back everyone another day another coaching update for the Lakers and not only one of them but multiple of them and then even beyond all that we got a report about a team having interest in signing D’Angelo Russell who may very well leave the Lakers for nothing definitely a lot to unpack here but we’ll break it all down and beginning with D’Angelo Russell it had previously been reported that he was leaning toward the finding his player option which would therefore make him an unrestricted free agent and while I know a lot of Laker fans might be thinking that is a good thing I can assure you that’s not even if you don’t want him to come back to their team you definitely do want his contract back on their payroll as that contract could be the only thing that prevents them from Trading Austin Reeves ruy haimura or even Jared Vanderbilt all of which should be next in line in regard to salary of D walk and well if you hope for them to keep them or at least a couple of them then you should be hoping for DLo to rethink that which may very well depend on a team like the Orlando Magic because according to Kelly Aiko of the athletic the Orlando Magic are quote unquote showing interest in him now it’s not a guarantee they’ll go after him as shown by their interest in multiple impending free agents such as Klay Thompson Paul George along with many more but they definitely do have the cap space to make it happen and not only one of them but potentially even multiple of them depending on what they do with a few of their team option contracts they could have over 70 million in cap room leaving that with more than enough to offer both a maximum level contract although a 20 million per year Kind De go along with that one the latter which could be what they offer to D’angelo Russell though what it will come down to here with them is who they want the most along with which of their targets actually want to play for them because for a guy like Paul George they are definitely not the only team that will be offering him a contract in addition to them we already know that his former team back in Indiana who have now made it to the Conference Finals by the way would potentially like to have a reunion with him and then other teams like Philadelphia New York York along with many more that have interest in him as well and why is that important well it is because for every free agent that Orlando does not get that makes it more likely for them to offer D’Angelo Russell a contract which again would not be a good thing for the Lakers now they do have the ability to essentially match whatever contract is given to him as they do in fact own his bird rights but they might not be willing to do it and not only that but giving him a new contract would make them have to wait before being able to trade him I mean I for one would prefer that compared to losing him for nothing but I understand why there might be mixed feelings here I think at this point they want to move in a different direction without being pretty obvious with their intention to make a trade for a guy like Donovan Mitchell or Trey young both of which being back cour players and while they want the contract of D’Angelo Russell on their payroll I’m not sure they actually want the player again it definitely could be worse especially if neither one of Mitchell or Trey young become available but I think it’s pretty clear they would like to move on here though they would have a much easier time doing that if he opted into his player option and and with that in mind they should be hoping for the Orlando Magic to value a whole bunch of free agents before D because if they would get a guy like Paul George or Klay Thompson for example that would dramatically lower the odds of them signing D again they have plenty of cap room but not even they will have enough to make that many additions and the more it sounds like he won’t be a part of the Magic’s long-term future the more likely it would be for DLo to opt into his contract rather than opt out I mean I hate to beat a dead horse here but I really don’t think that many understand how important that could be for the Lakers have contract back on their pay will be huge if they make a big trade that would save them from having to include an important role player like reev simura and if they planning to go all in on a star player then you need to retain every role player that you can I mean I think the Phoenix Suns found out that you cannot go very far without having much depth and even apart from that we often tend to under value team continuity if the Lakers would trade away half their team or even more for that fact it would be incredibly difficult for them to put it all together even with a flawed team with an underwhelming head coach they were pretty dangerous when healthy and in my opinion that came down to their team continuity which they would not have again if they traded everyone away in conclusion here though while I like D’Angelo Russell I’m really hoping they does not get much of any interest leading up to free agency that would lead to him either opting into his contract or maybe signing another team friendly deal to with their team both of which being far better Alternatives say leaving for nothing moving on here though we got another important coaching update and according to Sham shiria the Lakers have formly begun their coaching interview process with them now having met with JJ reick Sam Cassell and James MGO and I’ll let you hear the full report the Lakers have formerly begun their coaching interview process I’m told they’ve had meetings with JJ reck James brgo Sam Cassell those are the three leading targets right now obviously we’ve talked about JJ reick at length he’s LeBron James podcast partner but the Lakers as an organization they’ve have had an infatuation with him as a potential candidate what he could what his future could look like as head coach uh in the NBA really you think about Pat Riley making the jump from media to coaching was it three decades ago two decades ago like they view JJ reick potentially similar to that as Pat Riley this has been perceived say that again obviously as a LeBron James hire but in talking to people around the Lakers um around the locker room it should be more of an Anthony Davis hire that’s someone who obviously at 31 years old he’s in the prime of his career he’s someone that’s going to have a Runway here as a Laker longer than LeBron James and so um how do they handle the coaching higher how do they decide you know do we do we take Anthony Davis’s input where does that St I am told this is interesting uh Anthony Davis and James bgo have developed a recent Rapport they they kind of had a little bit of time in New Orleans in the summer when ad was drafted with the Pelicans in 2012 um but right now the Lakers uh they’ve begun their formal process I think this will still be a methodical process I know we keep on hearing about them but it’s very telling that those three are the first ones be brought in with Shamy were referring to them as the three leading targets to their team and not only that but with them apparently viewing JJ reic as guy with Pat rley kind of potential now I don’t know how I feel about that one but they certainly do appear to be intrigued with him I thought it might have been overblown at first and I’m really hoping they’ll still end up being that way but JJ reck appears to be their top option right now and while I’m fully aware of his knowledge for the game I simply don’t understand why they would want to take that risk Not only would he be a first-time head coach but he literally has zero head coaching experience or unless you want to count him being the head coach of his 8-year-old son’s team yeah not very much to evaluate here again definitely an intriguing option but maybe not for a team that is a very tight window and not to mention a fan base that does not want to wait for him to develop I mean I for one don’t want to wait half this season to let him figure it out not saying that would or would not happen here but the fact is that we simply don’t know now I know that every head coaching candidate would carry a little bit of risk but there are levels to it and the risk to reward ratio here would be off the charts which I for one would not feel comfortable taking and then while I understand why they’re taking a look at James bgo due to his connection with Anthony Davis who they are apparently making the priority for their next head coach I’m not sure why it’s become a Top Choice for them I mean nothing that he has done really jumps out as being a great head coach having a well below 500 record although losing control of the locker room on both teams that his coach I like the fact that he’s actually been a head coach before and that we know he would be more offensive minded although being able to evaluate his actual Playbook which is something that we cannot do at JJ reic but I’m not a big fan of what he’s done and well that leaves us with Sam casselle now keep in mind that a more formal interview with both Mike anori and David Adelman are likely coming but Sam casselle would probably have to be my favorite for Who they’ currently brought in a guy with 15 years being an assistant coach along with another 15 years being an actual player has is a pretty damn good NBA background and while I don’t love the fact that about 10 of those years have come with Doc Rivers a a under achiever come playoff time I like that he’s been around the game for a long time and with plenty of people having good things to say about him with many of them being former players I would not mind Sam Cassel though that is kind of by default at the current moment but with all of that being said what do you guys think how do you feel about the Orlando Magic having interest in signing D’Angelo Russell and then what do you think about the three coaches that are brought in for a formal interview let me know your thoughts in the comments down below that will do it for this 1. How do you feel about the Magic potentially signing DLo? And then what are your thoughts on Reddick/Cassell/Borrego being interviewed? Comment down below!

Thanks for watching! Don't forget to drop a like + subscribe if you enjoyed the video 🙂

  2. I hate DLo’s streakiness and lack of defence, but I actually think they should keep him, even if only to raise his trade value.

  3. I like D-Lo, wouldn’t mind him staying but if wants to go to Orlando, more power to him. Even tho they were a playoff team in the watered down East, the wide open 3’s he got in LA won’t be the same.

  4. My ideal lineups:
Mitchell, Norman Powell, oubre jr, AD and either JJJ or Sengun
Garland, max christie, Paskal, AD, JJJ or Sengun.

  5. LBJ as 6th man for the next 2 seasons.
suggs, monk, skylar, shaq Harrison, huff, juancho Hernangomez, vonleh, tj Warren, montreal har

  6. Rob Pelinka needs to go. We went from having the deepest team in the league to having a depleted roster with limited draft picks & if we lose D-Lo without being able to replace his 18million in cap space it will be devastating. It would cost us the rest of our minimal depth to even make a trade for a decent player. Then whats left at that point. We squandered Kuzma, KCP, Caruso, Zubac, Schroder, Trez, THT & a few first. Taking Shafino instead of trading back to get more assets. When does it stop…

  7. Could we sign & trade D-Lo to Orlando & at least get some assets back ? Gary Harris, Isaac…they got some guys over there I wouldn't mind

  8. Yall stay hating on D’Angelo Russell but if you look back at some of his best performances, he’s a huge reason as to why we even got into the play tournament. Inconsistencies are whack as fuck. Don’t get me wrong look at the last five minutes of most of the games and you’ll see that a lot of the times we lost by small margins because LeBron‘s lack of defense on top of everyone else’s lack of defensive effort. All the scapegoating just makes us as broken as before.

  9. Get rid of him. Above average player but certainly not worthy of being the primary Lakers PG.

  10. Reddick/ Sam Cassell are the coaches of the Lakers, they are more knowledgeable of the game than any of the current candidates that have been considered. They are your coach that will take the team far into the future as well as a minimal contract initially. They will manage the locker room along with input from veterans LeBron and AD; they are players coachs and understands the needs of there coaching staff. We need two real bigs, Valanciunas/Drumond/Dwight ( ie 2020 chip) along side AD, we need a six man, Dramond/Bobby Portes etc. We need a two way guard to manage Jamall Murry and Anthony Edwards…. Demar/Donavan/Caruso/Keli Ubrea/Marcus Smart/JaMonte Murray/Brogden/Bones Hyland . We have the assets, the picks and the money to make this happen. Doc Rivers, Ty Lou, , Chauncey Billups had no direct coaching experience other than one of many assistants.

  11. Dlo should try to keep him and trade him to other teams if that’s possible. I would be disappointed if he walked away and we get rid of player like Rui and AR for a star with nothing in return

  12. D Lo gotta go… 38% fg CAREER in playoffs, not just bad in LA, bad in BK, bad in Minn too… good point @JSM re: sign and trade. JJ WILL BE the coach, LeBook-it. 💯💯💯

  13. DLO's the only proper fit for the Lakers right now. On a LeBron/AD lead team the way it is and needing to be successful, we need depth and we need a point guard that can is both an efficient high volume three point shooter, scorer with point guard skills that also doesn't destroy our depth to get. Whether people like it or not, DLO is the best fit for our team, and a better Coach would have lead to better success this season. I hope the Lakers retain him and sign him long term and he remains a Laker for the rest of his career. He never should have been gone in the first place.

  14. What y’all think 🧐:
    – Keep the Starting 5 (Dlo,AR,Vando..)
    – Keep Max and Rui
    – Get 2 Defensive Bigs (for Jokic)
    – Get an 3nD guard who can guard Murray

  15. LBJ, suggs, monk, skylar, shaq Harrison, huff, J Hernangomez, vonleh, tj Warren, montrezl, woods, G Harris, luka samanic

  16. I don’t think Dlo to Orlando is smart at all on they behalf they already have wayyyyy to many guards to try and develop. They future backcourt should be a mix between either Cole Anthony, Jalen Suggs, Markell fultz, or Anthony black Dlo fits nowhere in that picture nor timeline.

  17. This is not related to the video but should we have thrown that play in game? Given that it would’ve meant avoiding Denver?

  18. I think JJ could make a solid coach. One day. I think when a guy like LeBron James needs a coach and a recently retired buddy and James Borrego are top names on the list we need to re-evaluate 'Bron possible GOAT ranking

  19. Trade for Jalen Suggs and Goga Bitadze of Orlando Magic. Suggs is a complete player. Bitadze is a legit center and good defensive player. Lakers doesn't need another star player. They need to add to their team Valanciunas, Robert Williams III, Goga Bitadze and McGee or Zach Edey. Always have 2 centers on the play, Get at least 2 athletic big defensive players from the free agency. Like the Denver Nuggets and the Timberwolves, they don't really have a legit shooter, but with 3 or 4 center, Lakers can even overpower them and most of the teams.

  20. Borrego did take the Hornets to the playoffs twice, or one playoff, one play in. It’s because Lamelo couldn’t stay healthy and because Miles Bridges was suspended for a whole year. Hornets weren’t in the playoffs 4 years out of his 5 seasons coaching them, because their two best young players have been unavailable.

  21. Hard to be a Laker fan with ungrateful mfs beside me. I hope DLo signs with the Spurs, Jazz, or another team where he can become the primary/secondary option.

  22. Both Dallas and Minnesota prove that size, depth and defense are vital to have any playoff success!!!! Are you listening, Lakers?????? Redick sounds great as a TV analyst and podcaster, BUT HE HAS ZERO COACHING EXPERIENCE!!!! The front office must be brain-dead by seriously considering him!!! I'm not wild about the other top candidates either! Pelinka's job should be on the clock!

  23. That lady clearly didn't get the comparison between JJ Reddick and Pat Riley…He meant where they came from being in the media obviously JJ doesn't compare to Pat Riley currently

  24. Fuck this guy honestly. He’s been getting paid as a trade piece and now he wants to fuck the lakers on and off the court . Shoulda traded him at the deadline

  25. If Rod is smart, he'll keep DLO trade Reaves. The Lakers just needed to upgrade they starting SG and get a big traditional center !!

  26. If Dlo walks for nothing then I would’ve been absolutely correct about trading Westbrook for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner even for an extra first round pick.

The Westbrook trade resulted in Dlo who has been a definitive negative in the playoffs, Malik Beasley who left for nothing and Vanderbilt who barely played this season.

I was constantly told Turner wouldn’t be worth trading for because of his injury history yet he’s been pretty available the past two seasons and has been playing great for Indiana. I was told Buddy Hield doesn’t play defence, yet Lakers still have had horrible guard defence regardless since. Hield was also on a very team friendly contract and could’ve been a good trade piece if needed.

They’re most likely back to square one needing to trade more draft picks to stay competitive and would use those picks for more Jalen Hood-Schifinos, also now we’re hoping for the likes of Goga Bitadze and Xavier Tillman to help AD, cmon lol

  27. Really like DLo. I think him and reeves don’t work together though. In season tourney team was great because reeves and Rui came off the bench. Russell may be even better than reeves off the bench since he doesn’t play defense as well and can be a high volume scorer in limited minutes

  28. The Lakers have a long ways before they can become contenders instead of being a Pretender!😢 the Lakers need bigs that can Produce!!!
