What will happen to the Alamodome?

What will happen to the Alamodome?

well ladies and gentlemen in this video I am going to be talking about the Alamo Dome the main stadium in the city of San Antonio that will be hosting the final four soon they were possibly going to be hosting an NFL team if San Antonio got one it ended up not happening and now the Alamo Dome is kind of known for the alamoo with which they host once a year home of UTSA the college football team as well as other various events they also hosted the Spurs for a short time although of course due to the capacity it really didn’t make sense the Spurs eventually moving into their own Arena and we could get a full circle moment with the Spurs possibly building a new Arena right near the ELO Dome I’ll talk about that later in this video but when it comes to the Alamo Dome where do I see it in five years where do I see it in 10 years could San Antonio possibly get an expansion NFL team maybe the Kansas City Chiefs in a relocation effort and possibly the relocation team play at the Alamo Dome for a few years as their Stadium gets built I find that extremely unlikely although I have said when it comes to potential NFL expansion we know it’s not happening anytime soon but if it were to happen possibly in the early 2030s I think that San Antonio Austin area could possibly be a spot for an expansion NFL team based on the population based on the city growth especially of Austin Texas and who who knows with the Alamo doome now the Alamo doome was rumored to possibly be getting maybe a huge renovation of around $400 million a very similar design to Hard Rock stadium it would have been a extremely unique project although it never happened and it’s really understandable why it never happened considering the Elmo Dome doesn’t have a main Pro tenant you’re not going to be dumping $400 million into the stadium and making an indoor Stadium a fully enclosed stadium with by the way no natural light turning that into an outdoor stadium with overhangs going all the way around is a very similar situation to Camping World Stadium where they wanted to do an $800 million renovation but because there’s no real tenant there to facilitate that renovation it never happened so the Alamo Dome it is getting Renovations there’s some concession stands they’re renovating but it’s nothing special and in my opinion at this point with it being the one main stadium of s Antonio they’re kind of stuck with it even though at this point by definition it is completely obsolete again there is no natural light within the Alamo doome the elamo doome has hosted some weird events including spring training baseball games it has crazy Dimensions down the right field line it’s like 270 down the line I honestly hope the Alim doome hosts a regular season game although that’s actually not possible because now with MLB the dimensions have to be a certain length going all the way around the Outfield technically I guess they could host some exhibition games although what’s really the point when it comes to the Alamo Dome there’s not going to be a major renovation anytime soon it is getting the final four which by the way I think in terms of the seeding configurations it does work well normally with final fours you’ll get a situation where there’s so many seats that just pile on top of each other because of how big the football field is and the surrounding area like the surrounding lower section of the field well with the Alamo Dome it seems to be a bit a bit more cramped which would enable less seats that they have to expand and it just looks better in my opinion it’s very similar to how Ford Field looked during when they hosted the final four so it’s good for the Alamodome that they’re getting the final four when it comes to its future I can’t see a major renovation when it comes to potentially facilitating an expansion team as a new stadium gets built I did talk about it recently the idea of the Chiefs moving to San Antonio and possibly the Alamo Dome being the host of course they would build a new stadium or I guess you could say they could do the huge renovation to it although at that point I don’t really see a reason for it I think they would just build a new stadium and then the team would move from the Alamo Dome where they would play for a few years to their new stadium and the alamoo Dome would get knocked down but in general that’s a far out there Theory that’s got like less than 1% chance of happening the realistic idea for the Alamo Dome it just kind of sits there and hosts events if it facilitates a Bull game maybe they try and get in on like a college football playoff semi-final game the Alamodome potentially hosting one of those although I doubt it based on how many new dome stadiums there are going to be that are going to be better than the Alamo Dome for the next 10 to 15 years I expect it to just Flounder with very minimal Renovations no true tenants and it may even last longer than that it just depends if San Antonio doesn’t get an NFL team is there really an excuse for building a new stadium and spending all that money no there’s not so they’re probably just going to keep the Alamo Dome even though it’s crazy you know there’s no natural light it really doesn’t matter because it doesn’t host big events outside of a Bull game outside of possibly the final four obviously you don’t need natural light to host the final four so I would expect even it’s kind of boring prediction it’s just going to kind of Peter around and maybe get slight Renovations over the next 10 15 20 years and then anything after that I really don’t know I’m just not sure what’s going to happen to San Antonio will they get an NFL team if they don’t there’s really no reason to invest a ton of money on a new stadium I guess hypothetically you could build a new stadium to lure a team but the investment would just be outrageous nowadays when it comes to an an NFL stadium so I think the Alamodome is just going to sit around I had mentioned earlier in this video that the Spurs could be getting a new arena in a surrounding area right near the Alamo Dome so that’s something that could happen it’s not really going to affect the stadium per se but the surrounding area I’m sure would get a big time renovation and they would build their Arena District and all of that if the Spurs actually put the arena there although there’s really not a lot of talk coming out of San Antonio they’re keeping it very hush when it comes to a Spurs potential new Arena which could happen in four or five years because they really do not like where Frost Bank Center is located right now a lot of people have said it’s in a bad place they need to move and they very likely will move the Spurs trying to really catch Victor wey’s prime years in a new Arena that that would be a huge cash count for them they’ve got to be motivated to do that it’s obvious way inyama is a generational Talent they’re going to continue to surround him he’s going to grow and think about like age 26 age 27 Victor way Bamba in a brand new arena with in in a better part of San Antonio with the surrounding area completely filled in with restaurants with hotels that is a cash cow waiting to happen and you know the Spurs see that and that and you’re don’t want to base it off a one player but I’m just saying W yamba is so good you really could say listen this is what’s going to happen we need to get this new Arena going ASAP it’s going to cost about a billion dollars and the surrounding area is going to cost even more but I would expect that project to happen relatively soon based on the way and yamba timeline and yes it potentially will make the surrounding area you know you know around the Alamo doome better but the Alamo doome itself it’s very hard to justify massive renovations to it when there’s no huge tenant that can help with those Renovations an ownership group or what have you yes it hosts UTSA but even that situation is not optimal for UTSA you know the upper deck is normally closed there’s a bunch of empty seats it’s not a great atmosphere there’s no natural light but at this point with the Alamo Dome where it is in terms of they originally built it they tried to get an NFL team and obviously it was very cheap when they built it it’s not like the newer stadiums they didn’t get an NFL team and it’s kind of just hung around and hosted events here and there and it’s main claim to fame again is I guess the alamoo bull You could argue maybe hosting final fours as well but either way that is just the story of the Alamo doome and what I think is going to be kind of a boring future unless something crazy happens with NFL expansion because we all know that even if San Antonio got an MLB team it really wouldn’t affect the Alamodome in any way they would just build a brand new ballpark for that MLB team there’s been rumors that San Antonio might be a Darkhorse MLB expansion option we know it’s coming in a few years we’ll have to see but either way it’s very unlikely that would affect the AL Dome itself so they’re going to continue with these smaller infrastructure concession Renovations but their big idea to potentially take the top off and kind of make it a Hard Rock stadium 2.0 for $400 million they’re not going to be able to find the money for that unless someone comes along and says I’ll do it there’s just there’s no tenant that really can justify the city spending that money on a crazy renovation like that especially when you look at San Antonio it is very hot there in the summer and into the fall obviously right now it’s not optal with it being a dome and no natural light but I think a better renovation might be just like replacing the top with like a translucent roof would probably be better or at least like replacing there there’s really nothing you can do because the way the Alamo Dome is shaped you know the sides of it it’s just not in terms of a modern Stadium it is not ideal so either way guys that is going to do it for this video make sure you follow me on X link to that’s always in the description

  1. Why would the Chiefs relocate? That is just ridiculous… They are the super bowl champions and support a strong fan base… Who buy tickets… That is a most ridiculous statement.

  2. It’s sad they built the Alamodome in hopes of getting a NFL team but it never happened. Now it’s dated, and would need an expensive renovation. Frost bank center is in the worst ghetto part of San Antonio it’s pretty rough and scary idk what they were thinking building their arena there.

  3. Unlike Camping World Stadium which nobody wants to play at, the Alamodome has steady tenants. Plus it's getting the final four next year and all the other non sporting events it hosts. It's a staple of the city. It'll still be around in 15 years at least.

  4. I think the issue with the Alamodome is the corners of the upper deck are non existent and the odd cable support system

  5. san antonio is receiving more people than Austin btw. More than any city in the country at that.

  6. call me crazy, but I watched a Spurs game at the Alamodome back in the 90s and thought it was awesome… what other arena at the time had hoops on the other side that you could shoot on during the game? Good memories.

  7. I feel you are getting paid by sports owners to purposely shit on stadiums, just to freak out the plebe's in whatever local area.

  8. I went to a Final Four there and thought it was nice and well kept. Hotels were hard to find though, we had to stay about 30 minutes away.

  9. It works for the city. Nfl level? No. Works a college stadium. Its more of a part of convention center. Big room to host events. Good spot near hotels and riverwalk.
Not everything needs to be in a billion dollar luxury stadium

  10. Cubs don't use taxpayer money.
The Rickett's used their own dime to refurbish Wrigley Field.
Owners like that are what's needed in pro sports.

  11. I personally believe the Alamodome will be around till about 2035. If the city was serious they would be saving money now and invest in a replacement stadium in about a decade. No amount of renovation will fix the dome to NFL standards

  12. I think once Jerry Jones passes away there will be a push to get an NFL team in San Antonio-Austin. The Alamodome will be used as a temporary stadium for the new team while a new stadium is built

  13. Could SA use this to lure an MLB expansion team until they can build a baseball stadium, similar to the Rockies in Mile High Stadium? Is a baseball retrofit plausible with a layout like the Marlins' Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Landshark/Sun Life or the Twins' Metrodome?

  14. UTSA use it for football. There concert there ever years Billy Joel and Sting will bring in several millions NCAA finals ne😂xt year. Alamo Bowl every year. People who talk about getting rid of it doesn't know how much money is brought in by the Alamodome.

  15. Victor Wenbamyama is probably going to be a Laker before too long. That's a wet dream for the powers that be of the NBA.

  16. Renovations!? I was at the Alamo Bowl last year and it’s fine. It’s an event center. To be charged extra for “luxury” aesthetics is ridiculous. The energy and atmosphere of the people in attendance is what makes it memorable.

  17. The New Orleans Saints relocated to the Alamodome temporally after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

  18. 9:32 DCI Southwestern Championships is a July fixture at the Alamodome, drawing much of its crowd from the ranks of Texas high school bands prepping for the coming fall. Drum corps draws a passionate base, but flies under the radar of the public at large. The high school bands also hold their state championships here in November.

  19. San Antonio native here, the Alamodome is doing fine, at least it’s not an eyesore or ugly and it’s been pretty much well kept over the years and I believe has had 3 renovations in the 30 years since its inception. I remember when it hosted the Saints games when Katrina happened, heck I worked those games and it was packed and well received. SA was really hoping to finally get a team but they decided to return to Houston instead. Having attended last years WWE Royal Rumble it was very exciting and was packed. Again it still looks good and honestly there’s not a bad seat in the dome. It’s a good sign that the NCAA still sees the Alamodome as a worthy host of the Final Four and believe me people show up from all over the US.
