Do NBA Players Discuss the Next Face of the League?

another point I wanted to ask you about was the just the the face of the league passing of the torch concept um there’s a number of generational players that are either didn’t make the playoffs or no longer in the playoffs and I it’s it seems like it’s been a theme uh since the All-Star break it’s been a talking point um you know the project we’re working on uh with fwell for the docu series on which I know you were part of uh for the docu series on the NBA Playoffs um when we first met back in October like Jason and I talked about this we were like it feels like this could be potentially the season where we see this passing of the torch where it’s it’s about the next guy and it it sort of happened right I mean joic is still in it and he’s you know three-time MVP but he’s not 35 he’s not 36 right joic Tatum ant of course um I mean you think about the guys that you besides me that you grew up just really loving I love how you threw yourself I’m kidding uh you like go down the list LeBron Durant Curry PG Harden Westbrook like you know guys from your generation that th those were your favorite players growing up right absolutely um do you guys talk about who the next face of the league could be do you guys talk about this concept of passing the torch absolutely absolutely you do absolutely we always talk about it like we have I mean we have a lot of debates in our locker room because we’re pretty close in that group and we talk about a range of different things but basketball wise things that we talk about is definitely passing of a torch and actually you know it’s crazy we sat in this seat about a year ago and we talked about and and I promise this isn’t a Minnesota timber wolves podcast right here but we are talking a lot about them right now but we literally at we really said like what is his ceiling and I said in my head top five player in the league and right now is looking like he’s one of those top five players in the league is because of what he’s doing defensively and also just overall just taking over the game like he’s looking like one of those guys where it’s like oh wow like he’s closing games he’s has a ball in his hands he’s making decisions and he’s stopping their guys on the other end that Phoenix series he literally took over the series in your eyes as the phase of the league is there anything more than just on court performance is there a marketing angle to it which matter Ms personality means everything I mean you see that with a he has a very big personality and people gravitate towards that uh Shay his personality is a little more stoic and obviously his Market plays in a role plays a little role into that but his off the court presence is very huge so that’s when you know that brings a different it’s a little different than a but it’s similar because they both have big personalities they just show it in different ways so and also they’re pretty good at basketball too so I think that that helps a lot Wy yeah wm’s wm’s different bro n he’s different win winning winning winning matters to this AB absolutely unless you are wmy where it’s like he’s just different yeah no no but no no no but I’m saying like long term absolutely like the reason LeBron the reason Steph have been the face of the league for the last 10 to 12 years since Kobe it’s because they won the reason Kobe was cuz he won absolutely the reason Jordan was and and uh Magic Larry like they one that that that’s important and I don’t I don’t necessarily think you have to have ants personality no but you have to be willing to embrace it at some level for sure cuz all those guys Jordan Kobe LeBron Steph they all have different personalities yeah but there still an AA around them that like people gravitate I’ll take this yeah for sure and it’s crazy too like sorry to cut you off Tommy but it’s crazy we mentioning all those guys and during that last stretch of the Year where we’re all fighting from playoff position I played against every one of those guys and it’s like we were fighting tooth and nail to get into the playoffs like we won 49 games and was the AFC you understand how crazy that is

  1. Luka Ant Wemby Shae and Zion are the best young players talent wise. Ant seems the most robust physically.

  2. ant is number one option. Wemby will never be number one option on a team that wants to challenge for anything.

  3. Luke and wemby are head and shoulders above anthony edwards. Ant for sure number 3 but its honestly blasphemous to compare him to luka. Luka made WCF like his 2nd or 3rd year in the league. And he had NO ONE on that team. Took down Phoenix and the clippers with paul george and kawhi.

  4. Yo Trey you need to get your 2k rating up shooting wise because you torched the league the last two months of the regular season

  5. I love Luka, but I gotta say, he’s not improved that much since year 2. I thought he was on track to being unquestioned best player in the league but it hasn’t happened. With ant and Wemby coming, I’m not sure it will happen.

  6. Absolute disrespect to Luka and SGA who are both FAR better than Ant ever will be. How you can even compare Ant to Wemby is ridiculous, one will be a future GOAT the other an average Dwayne Wade

  7. Wemby is going to be the BEST player of all time. He’s a cheat code.
Luka will by amongst the greatest scorers of all time.
    Ant will be the GOAT.
