“Jaylen Brown’s season deserved recognition. He had the best year of his career on both ends of the floor helping lead the #Celtics to a 64-win season.”

It’s unfortunate. JB has been our constant rock all year. He’s been the most consistent player on the best team in the league.

Hometown bias aside, there were a couple people JB had a stronger argument for All NBA than imo

  2. Absolutely the best season of his career. His counting stats may not be there, but when you factor in that his touches per game went down significantly and his play-making numbers stayed the same, tells you he did more with less. Not only that, but his defense this year was the best it’s ever been. Let me ask anyone this, when was the last time you saw him get beat backdoor?

Jbs hardware can be the Larry o brein and then we give the rest of the league the bird on a duck boat

Honestly, if we win? This is Brown’s trophy…Or, at least, it’s his story. What a season. He’s reached his highest level so far, he put this team on his back; became a great leader in the wake of Marcus Smart. He exceeded all of the impossible expectations of his contract and only looks to be even more dialed in with every succeeding game. Put a “C” on the top of that man’s jersey and let him work.

i absolutely love me some jaylen brown. i think he’s hella underrated, and he’s been my flair for years (brief hiatus for his little foray into some minor racism), and it’s wild that the Celtics don’t have more than 1 all nba player. Butttt…. hear me out.

    1) JB already got his payday, so these awards don’t mean anything other than straight up narrative for him. That’s also true for guys like booker etc, but for a guy like Haliburton this makes a world of difference and i’m okay seeing votes go to other players that need it for their contract if there’s any debate. Why? Because the whole system is a sham to begin with, the fact it’s tied to contracts is wild, and i’d rather all the players get paid even if i don’t like them.

    2) The advanced numbers honestly don’t love jaylen. This has always been a knock on him, and basketball stats are imperfect. But you have to consider him to be a pretty big outlier to discount these numbers:

    * PER: Jaylen is #52 next to Brandon Ingram. Booker is 18. Porzingis and Tatum lead the C’s.
    * Win Shares: Jaylen is #55, tied with Tobias Harris. Booker (#11) is just behind Tatum (#10). Jaylen is 7th on the celtics. White (#18), KP (#25), Jrue (#48), Al (#51), and Payton Pritchard (#54). It’s hard to claim All-NBA when 2 of your team’s bench players rank higher in win shares.
    * WS/48: Same as above except Jaylen also drops below Sam Hauser. (KP goes to #4 in the league next to giannis).
    * Defensive Win Shares is Jaylen’s best category, where he’s #22 right next to derrick white (ahead of Jrue).
    * Box Plus/Minus: Jaylen is way down at #80, below Tobias Harris. He’s 8th on the Celtics.
    * VORP: Jaylen is at least slightly ahead of Pritchard and Hauser, but at #70 is still 6th on the celtics.

Now, none of those numbers are without their issue. They don’t account for matchups, rotations, role on the team both offense and defense, and strength of supporting cast. That’s why Tatum – despite “only” ranking in the #8-12 spot for a lot of these rankings – gets raised to 1st team. He carries the bench units, and the other C’s starters are all worse when he’s off the floor.

But the fact is you can make a reasonable argument that jaylen isn’t even the 3rd or 4th best player on the Celtics.

I actually think KP is actually the 2nd most deserving C’s player, but he didn’t reach the 60 game mark so he’s not eligible. After that I think White and Brown are equally deserving. Not biased or anything, but I would’ve had Tatum 1st team, KP 2nd, and one of White/Brown 3rd team.

All that to say – Brown is one of my favorite players, and I think you can argue he should be 3rd team. But I also don’t think this is a massive gross snub. The NBA has lots of good players.

Jaybles is clearly better than at least 3 players who made All NBA, and that’s ultimately more important. Rather have an underrated star than an overrated one

Tying All NBA to contract shit is stupid because there’s only so many players that can get All NBA, so guys will get snubbed if people feel a player deserves that payday and someone already got theirs.
