game two of Pacer Celtics that will take place here tonight theyve is going to join me to do all that the adjustments to watch out for from game one to two should the Pacers feel positive or negative about how that game went what can they do better plus big day on Wednesday for the Pacers Tyrese Halbert officially makes third team lnba I thought it was a lack a lot of you disagreed with me but it did end up happening what it means why it happened what it means going forward for the Pacers financially we get into all that today congrats to Tyrese Halburn so a busy jam-packed episode day was kind enough to join me for all of it let’s just Just Jump Right In he is back it’s the Pod father back to talk playoffs back to talk Conference Finals which the Miller time pod did and lock on Pacers had not done until this season I got you back for it just for this it’s Dave surl you’ve heard him here many of times Dave I’m not going to beat around the bush game one was what it was the Pacers lost I will start with this kind of question to you are you more encouraged that the Pacers oh hello by the way hi hi Dave I I have been told by many a media person that the how are you question is a waste of everybody’s time but I hate that as just like a Midwest person we’re all human beings man like know what I guess I don’t know about this like listeners don’t care right in theory they should but they don’t you know so I just skip it now even though it feels wrong like I can see you I know now we’re gonna talk about it but we also talked before this recorded not to break the illusion or anything like that so it is you’re having the worst week of your life and I’m like let’s talk about basketball let’s it um did you walk away from that game at like encouraged that they played well and they had a great chance they or discouraged that they did all that and played a good game which could be hard to do again and still lost encourag for sure and I know a lot of people were kind of oh they they had it in their hands they let it slip away this might be the only opportunity and it felt like kind of and I I mean I completely understand that reaction but you know I still view this entire postseason and especially this series through kind of a long-term development I’m looking to see you know how well they play in games that matter how well they play in games that are easier uh that’s been a huge issue for them I’m looking to see you know who is able to step up how they’re able to perform when the pressure is tight and you know inevitably every team that’s ever been good has gone through games like this have gone through through games where they could have had opportunity to beat a huge opponent they made a couple of crucial errors at the end of the game stupid things they made a dumb turnover they should have shot it earlier and they didn’t you know this happens to every NBA team and and and any team that is ascending to the place where the Celtics are now where they’re perennially going deep into the playoffs um they’ve had plenty of moments like this in their past I mean their roster is littered with stories that are like this and so this is just part of basketball it’s part of your development as a team and it’s sort of inevitable to have to go through some of these things so I can’t believe a really young team with so many players playing their first playoff game kind of buffed it in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals that they shouldn’t but you know they weren’t expected to be in certainly by being the six seed and certainly because of their youth um and you know they played a Do or Die G Do or Die game on Friday and they played they got on a plane and they played a Do or Die game on Sunday and then they got on a play they played game one against the best team in the NBA on the road on a Tuesday I mean I can’t believe they were in it at all you know like when it was when it first started and shots were short and they were just passes were just get picked off in midair I’m like okay this is it I mean like they’re just gonna get wax in game one let’s just get it over with and we’ll move on the game two I the same yeah unbelievable that that they not only weathered that storm but really honestly kind of kicked their butts from that point forward I mean like you know that was quick 120 run and the game ended tied they had a three-point lead as we all know right at the end of the game I mean they kind of controlled the rest of that game yeah and that’s pretty unbelievable for a team uh with their youth um that is not as good as the Celtics honestly right now doing it on the road I mean I found it very encouraging and again I know it sucks to have all the errors all the things that they could have done better but again I mean I just been watching basketball for a long time this just always happens there’s always going to be games like this and you know given the circumstances given how easy it would have been for them to get their butts kicked they should have gotten their butts kicked the fact that they were even in this I honestly walked away from it encouraged I think that that’s the right answer if there is such thing as a right or wrong answer you know if the depending on the result of the series like everyone’s going to feel frustrated about this game no matter what they lost but like how important it is or how people feel about it will depend on you know how this ends if they win like they just won a series that ended three days ago where they had a soul crushing gut-wrenching Road game one loss that that went crazy in the final minute and they won the series right like it doesn’t this is not a series over kind of situation even though it feels that way when you miss an opportunity against a sensational team who’s missing a talented player so I understand that thinking but like I like you you know they had the 120 run in the first 248 or whatever it was and they had a 130 run and 305 in the third quarter too that will get overlooked because the game had already started but overcame that one immediately too like you Sub sub out those six minutes and they were 25 points better than the Celtics for like 40 minutes of Regulation and you can’t do that that’s not how basketball works but like I think they played well enough throughout the game without outlier shooting like they shot well but not like so great they were under 40% from three that it’s right to feel encouraged even though there was a lot of stuff that I think they messed up on that probably could happen again they’re going to struggle with Tatum they’re going to struggle with fouls this series I bet I don’t think they’re going to turn it over that much but I bet this is their highest turnover series of the postseason because they’re intentionally trying to play so fast against a slow team but in general that style worked they were winning by five in the final two minutes like I I agree with you that that is the answer yeah and this is also you know talk about the how good the Celtics have were in the regular season how good they are they also gave a really good punch I mean they were really good in this game I mean like they played obviously offensively very very well um they had some miscues on defense I think that of switching they had a lot of switching miscommunication of that for I don’t this foresee that happening too much in this series this was agree with that I agree with that but every team every single team has had switching miscommunications against the Pacers and the playoffs just because they play so fast and freaky and random on offense but I agree that they’ll be better at it going cor not as much and not as blatant I think yes I agree with that I mean they they’ll a little bit but not too wide openen parade of layups that they had in what the third quarter there that seems like the probably isn’t going to happen again agreed so here’s where I would start by Looking forward because I I agree with you on the first game to me the thing that that stands out is you know before the game even started Rick Carlile talked about how tough the Celtics are to match up like season has even started he’s like yeah this is gonna be really hard for us like yeah you know you don’t hear that kind of honestly very much unless the team is absurdly good and the Celtics are like it does no it doesn’t feel this way but by net rating they were one of like the best teams 10 teams like ever which is insane they unbelievably good and in this game despite shooting 33% from deep and under 50% from the field they scored 133 points yeah they had an extra five minutes but like they they play good offense and the Pacers have recognized this so I look back at a game like this and I wonder how much if you’re thinking about adjustments going forward for the Pacers how like how much you have to be willing to sacrifice on the offensive end at all because I think you’re going to have to be trying to keep up if you’re the pace like if you make an adjustment to to do something defensively and we’re going to talk about quite a few of those if it takes away something from you offensively I don’t think it’s worth it almost because a lot of the series will be about keeping up as the Pacers to me because they’re gonna have a lot of trouble as every team in the NBA has the Celtics had the best offense of all time keeping up with Boston yeah and um I don’t think there’s a lot of easy solutions I mean of course Very famously you know the the Pacers avoided playing Giannis in the first round uh they made some adjustment they made uh they made life miserable for Brunson in the uh towards the end of the series thankfully he’s short you know what I mean like he’s small enough that they could kind of handle that that’s like a problem that they can handle having two big wings as good as the Celtics Wings there really isn’t a a great answer on the Pacers roster and especially when they’re both playing simultaneously um you know you could throw out stuff and and say well maybe nth play a little better and SE yakum can do this and like I don’t think that there’s really a great answer the one thing that I would really like to see especially from uh seak is one of the best at kind of doing this they need to make uh the c a little bit more uncomfortable defensively especially from the wings you know they didn’t get to the line very much in this game I know that people were probably G talking about this a lot there were a few calls that I think that should have been called for the Pacers but it wasn’t a ton I mean if you go back and watch Boston played a really good defense I mean they’re very good at staying in position and not fouling I mean and when they were on the defensive end that even numerically it was 15 to 23 and fouls like it just so happened that there were a lot more shooting fouls and fouls in the bonus for one team than the other which like that eight fouls is not that much different especially for a way better defensive team continue absolutely and so some that were wrong you’re right right and so the Pacers are very good at getting quality shots and they have such offensive talent that they’re able to knock them down that’s a great thing to do but I do think it’s worth intentionally putting uh Tatum and brown and Tatum especially in a position to make tough defensive plays try to get a little bit closer to the rim try to draw a little bit of contact try to get it so a getting to the foul lines a little bit um easier to score obviously but B trying to get them in foul trouble in that situation I mean that’s just one thing that I think that they can do in order to try to slow them down I don’t think that they have a ton of answers to be able to do that on the actual defensive end and so the classic playoff strategy is run into him a little bit you know like don’t completely settle for that that nice Fade Away jumper you know maybe get into him and diging him a little bit and hope that you get a couple of calls maybe they he gets pulled out early and they missed a chunk of time or maybe they get in the genuine foul trouble towards the end of the game and that changes how that ends up being played that’s got to be something that they do every single day and um it’s a weird problem to have because they’re so good at getting quality shots that they actually hit and scoring a ton of points but I do think it was worth not settling for very good shots in order to try to get them to foul a little bit more to get them more in foul trouble because I think that that’s probably the best chance they have slowing those guys down you know who attacked a star player very well in this postseason uh Drew holiday attacking Tyrese Halbert two nights ago yeah in game one like obviously very different scenario than what you’re saying but like that’s the thing the teams do hey guys short little break here so we can talk about LinkedIn jobs when you’re hiring for your small business you want to find quality professionals that are right for the role that’s MBA to post your job for free terms and conditions apply okay let me run through a list of some adjustments that I have highlighted and I and I think it’s key that I will point to out a lot of my returning thesis for talking about these is does this adjustment sacrifice offense and if it does you have to think hard about not making it because if you there’s there’s only so much you can do to stop this team like I asked Ty to to not to insert myself into this but like we had media availability today and that’s something I wanted to ask Tyrese like one question I had going into this year is who’s he gonna guard at all because everyone who starts with the Celtics is a fringe allar better and so like who’s he G to guard and what does he think how does he think he did in game one and what like what can they do against a group like that and he said they’re all allstars that’s a special group of guys like you you you probably aren’t going to stop those guys so I I’m just reining on something I already said but you know you have to make adjustments that they don’t sacrifice too much offense because you have to keep up okay the game started with uh Aon n Smith on Jason Tatum and Pascal seak on Jaylen Brown this sacrifices no offense to do I’m flipping that right away uh I think seak was much better on Tatum throughout the game I think you need more length on him in general especially because the Pacers were more willing to switch than I expected they would be in this series and they struggled with Tatum obviously a 36 points first thing I’m doing uh on Thursday night the Pacers seaks gard and Tatum from possession one yeah and that’s one of the reasons why they ended up getting him is be able to handle bigger Wings they needed some options to be able to do it um you know Obi topping becoming an amazing Defender overnight didn’t uh didn’t work out I don’t know if they seriously plan on doing that but it was worth a shot but uh you know they they needed people with length to be able to defend that’s exactly why they ended up guarding him and so that that ends up making sense give him a shot might as well yeah I I know that’s so minor but I mean takum I thought did pretty well in that matchup throughout you know the second half especially and Tatum had some clunky moments then in overtime he was the best player on the court and they won anyway so maybe it’ll Bean nothing because turns out defending a guy who made first team NBA is really challenging and I just realized I forgot to put the third thing we’re talking about which is Halbert all NBA on the side of the graphic we’ll get there guys um but you the first two were the first and the last one were kind of the same so I was wondering how I was going to repeat the first part for the last part so that that that’ll work out I’m not very good at these Graphics anymore by not good at that I mean I do it like two seconds before I send you the link then I’m like just scrambling to put stuff in there uh okay it’s very similar to uh Quint Buckner’s keys of the game I adore got score points Place defense maybe get some rebounds play with pace is always on there it always makes me I love those first of all because it’s always like absurdly challenging things like play Fast shut down Brown and Tatum score 50 points at every quar I’m like what it’s not that extreme like it’s like okay yes I think they will win if they do all these things they are so great okay um thing two that I think is interesting the Knicks didn’t do this it’s like the antithesis of the Knicks to go Zone ever right but the Bucks had a lot of success slowing the TJ McConnell bench groups with Zone and lo and behold even for like three minutes the the the Celtics went Zone against the bench and it wasn’t a two3 I don’t really know what it was Drew holiday was like I think it was a two on two but Drew holiday was like yeah do what I’m gonna do whatever I want like I’m just gonna run around and and it worked really well that’s gonna make the Dynamics of the bench different and it helped for the Pacers that Obi toppen was playing very well in the first half so it didn’t totally crush them they were able to find success against it but they’re I I don’t have a good like specific thing they’re just gonna have to play very well against that like they tried s against it um they probably shouldn’t do that again I get the thinking you need the shooting he’s a much better shooter than Isaiah Jackson but um you know you gota you got to keep up on offense and maybe that’s the way to do it so maybe I’m stepping on my own Toes by saying that but they’ve got to find a way to score against that zone uh a little bit better than they did right away in game one that that really slowed them down yeah and it seems that probably that’s one of those things where maybe they just weren’t expecting it they didn’t necessarily plan for that um happen in that specific system Ario and so you kind of got to feel it out in the middle of the game I mean McConnell’s ability to just kind of keep the ball live constantly and Obi to’s ability to slice through and kind of stay in the pocket or shoot a three or do whatever it needs to do to kind of break those things um I’m not really worried about that it’s kind of a longterm thing but that’s it’s good to have I am you are you are worried about that it it just it like until game six of the first round the PAC bench was not good like that was a big problem for a unit that’s typically very good and they survived it in the first game but I would I would have concern that they don’t do as well in another game if they do that if the Celtics do that again yeah I mean we’ll have see it seems like they have the Personnel to be able to get it done and maybe with a little bit of they already did once so what do I know right but you know I need like a big idiot thing to put on my head every time I get something wrong because in the playoffs I’ve taken some L’s with some adjustment predictions my biggest one by far first round saying after game one they got to take inre nard off of Dame uh no that was wrong nard did great uh in that match up I have a couple more I want to get to but do you have anything adjustment wise that stands out to you I don’t want to keep just running through mine I mean not a ton I mean they play play they they played very very well and you know as far as you know obviously not turning the ball over um is something that they need to do I mean that’s that’s really not something that you necessarily need to make a very big strategic thing it’s just you know slow down a little bit don’t make that dumb move don’t make that dumb pass um um and I I thought that overall that they ended up playing very well um the only thing that I would say is you know again just trying to get uh the opposing Wings into foul trouble a little bit would be the best chance that you have of slowing those guys down yeah the turnovers were were like how many of them were just like sloppy handling you know what I mean from guys who don’t typically dribble a lot like Obi and miles and Aaron had a ton of those and Carla pointed out today yesterday for you guys listening like a lot of them were really early in the shot clock and against Boston who to your point about making the wings work and try to get him into Val trouble like even even making them play defense for longer has value that that makes them less effective on offense so even if a turnover happens nine seconds later that has some sort of tangible value like they can’t they they were just so bad taking care of the ball in so many ways and that was another I didn’t even consider that but that’s another part that makes a lot of sense to me this switched onto Tatum and did a great job and I’m not about to say they need to put Isaiah Jackson on Tatum what I am gonna say is if the if the Celtics second unit continues to have cornette and he can’t do anything they didn’t guard him at all or they go like Hower at the five or do whatever weird thing they were doing I might be willing to take Jackson off of the center and put SE yakum on the center and then you’re still getting just as much offensive value out of that group because Jackson on a shooter like Sam Hower is not that valuable but he’s better ironically on like a more ball handling kind of player I’ve thought that forever like I’ve said that since his rookie year he’d be better guarding demaro Rose and the Nikola vich and like in this series is full of matchups like that for him I would think about switching that up at the bench yeah you know he does he’s a very athletic guy he does have lengths he doesn’t not necessarily that has the same lateral speed as somebody that would actually play wing of course but you know that’s someone that can it’s a it’s a different look it can be something that a very physical kind of Defense of playing on Tatum 2 which I end up uh liking um I don’t know if I would do it more than a few minutes but you know it could be a situation where like you said when you’re playing against a a cter that can’t really do anything any harm on you maybe he can come out and trap him hard and end up uh you know making him work a little bit harder to go over screens and such and that that could that could provide some value I can see it I can see let me be let me be more direct he should start instead of Halburn just to guard Tatum I’m kidding I just that stood out to me a lot and and if the Celtics are just not going to play cornette until porzingis comes back I like that idea of getting some second unit bench Magness I have one more thing before we talk about Halbert making L NBA if you don’t mind they did it again it was a wonderful thing in the first series uh they went to a lineup with SE yakum at the three top and four and then a big it was Turner in this case a lot of the times in the first round it was a bench big uh they did it against the Knicks a few times there was only two minutes they won those minutes um but that against the Celtics who have so much size like their shortest outside of pton Pritchard it’s all like six5 and up basically whatever height Derek white and Drew holiday are you if you can combat that with equal size that’s valuable and that group gets you offensive punch a lot and defensive punch because of the size I would roll with that for way more than just the two minutes that they did in game one I would at least try it a lot more uh in the playoffs in general with SE yakum top and Turner on and seven minutes Paces are plus seven I mean that’s not a lot of time but across three games you’ll take that right I would explore that a lot more going forward in the series yeah and um that’s about the most size that they can get in a lineup there’s not a lot of other options other than that and they need to try something Isaiah Jackson starting a point guard for me so there yeah I dig it I want him to try it sorry I interrupted you again no I wasn’t saying anything all right Dave the big it’s weird to do this usually these big news things it’s May the Pacers are out I could just do a whole show on it I can preview what it matters about it and then I just roll through it I have not talked about this at all leading up to it and it just here it is today it happened all NBA teams were announced on Tuesday and now we have to update the list Dave the list used to be uh Reggie Miller Germaine O’Neal meta World Peace Paul George and Victor Depo that is every Pacer to make an allba team tyres Halbert and welcome to the club well deserved I said on the show I said 90% or better he’s gonna make it and at the end of the season people were like what are you talking about they didn’t think he closed very well I thought it was like a lock uh the voting says I was not quite right but I was still right in the end results wise he made it we’ll get the financial implications in a second but first of all one congrats to him I think he obviously deserved it two Dave what does this mean for him the Pacers and his Legacy Legacy the big word well yeah I mean this like you said this is this is rarified erir and and you know it’s uh obviously just from a numbers perspective it’s more prestigious than than an All-Star selection um as we see from some people that had doubt I actually am completely with you I had no doubt about this whatsoever if you actually look at the other players that could have gotten this spot you say oh H Burton’s been on the decline but then you look at his season stats he almost declined to a point where he was was only a little bit better than everybody else but he’s still better than everybody else you know like it just because he declined doesn’t mean that I’ll get to that in a second but I agree yes yeah he cleared everybody else that was so you know um and I think that people were going to be willing to forgive him U because of uh if you’re not as good after an injury and you still end the season better than everybody else and you were leading the league and assists and everything I think you got to make the team obviously um especially with the paces being a playoff team and all that sort of jazz but there’s another factor in there by the way which is I you know I think that there would have been a riot If halberton lost out on this Max extension with better stats than everybody else because he came back early from injury to be able to qualify for being all NBA yes it would have been like there would have been it would have been a huge story you know if you say he had to come back early in order to meet the minimum game and he had some stretches where he didn’t play that great he still ended up better but because of those stretches that he had to do in order to make all NBA he doesn’t make allba and then therefore loses I don’t know how much money it is exactly but it’s a lot of money that would have been a really big deal they could that that could have been like the that the the the final pin that made the next strike happen you know like if that would have happened and so I you know I’m not saying that the NBA was necessarily calling every media member and saying that you have to vote halberton but I think that there would have been like a you’re going to have to explain if he doesn’t make this list even though his case is the best I think that there needs to be a little bit of an explanation on there given the financial repercussions you know it’s very subtly I think that that that must have been a factor but you know it had to at least have been in the back of people’s heads I’m really G to cost this guy money with a better case because he struggled a little bit I I think that that would have been hard so I had no doubt that this is going to happen I didn’t even consider that it was possible that he wouldn’t have made the team like you said that I don’t did we see the votes of the people who didn’t make it I mean I know oh the individual votes no no sorry well I mean the point totals so we know the point total I didn’t see that so I wasn’t sure how close it was I guess in that sense and maybe it was a little bit closer than I anticipated but like U I had never seriously considered the idea that he wasn’t gonna gonna make it but it’s rarified Error you don’t see a lot of Pacers do it I mean every Pacers Squad that I’ve seen ever be good mostly is comprised of not one or two or three very good players but maybe one pretty good player and like seven good ones you know they’re doing it again now but this is a classic a Pacers Playbook they’d rather spread out the talent than have a couple at the top and part of it is just their ability to do so unwillingness to tank to get that talent and unwillingness to ATT track them in free agency that’s just kind of how they have to approach Seasons that’s another reason why they P just don’t really produce a lot of all-nba players and why it’s so exciting that ters halberton is a guy that is so obviously going to be on more of these teams in the future I mean he’s going to be maybe the first one to really rack up a a large resume of all NBA appearances in a Pacers uniform uh I think it’ll break I mean what’s the record is it two I mean like I three I believe I’ll check one more time have three okay yeah yeah I couldn’t I thought it was two or three so I I think he’ll break that record I think um and um that’s a very exciting thing to do and pretty cool to be able to have uh Pacers represent on those lists in a way that isn’t even a surprise okay I have a lot of stuff to react to okay Reggie made third team three times for all of his Jo made it three times and has the Pacers best finish on second team which is hilarious because he finished third in MVP voting that year but it was positional which will matter in just a second we get to Halburn meta World Peace made it once PG was also three times and Vic one so three is the number three for all of the best Pacers Trio it’s three um so here’s some okay first of all I agree with a lot of stuff you said the other caveat I would add is if I was a voter myself and I’m not if I was a voter and I was like on my last three guys to pick and one of them had a contract escalator and two of them didn’t he gets the tiebreaker right like I don’t want to be the guy who takes that away from him right so I think that also helped him and I don’t mean that to diminish his season because I agree with you he went from top five player for the first top seven whatever pick your number for the first three and a half months of the season to 20th is 15th to 20th at the end and he had that month in there where he was playing 20 minutes a game that hurt his stats but he played those games to get to 65 right so you know I don’t know that they directly picked 20 because of the rule but I’d be shocked if it never came up in a meeting right so whatever he got the stats he averaged more than an assist per game over anybody else he played 69 games and had 50 more assists than anyone else and he scored 20 points per game and was unbelievable for the first three months like I thought he was a lock so here’s why I brought up the position list or positions for J because this is the first year it’s positioned less so it’s actually easy with the point totals to just say what rank he was right among voters and now I can say oh the voters think he’s this plus plus player in the NBA halberton finished Dave with 75 points which is 14th exactly so he was not last in um I got the top 17 dead on and I only mentioned that because when I was talking about his candidacy I said there’s probably two guys right after who have a case that I think he’ll beat uh and those two were Jaylen Brown and Paul George Jaylen Brown had 50 points so that was close uh behind halberton was Deon Booker who had 70 points so his he actually kind of was close but PG had 16 so really it was a 16 Manfield for 15 spots and I think calburn was better than than Booker and brown this season myself um so I’m not surprised I again I thought he’d make it the whole time I’m actually surprised he didn’t finish ahead of sabonis but sabonis was very good this year uh and here one other thing in fact in fact he he kind of like a an all defensive team Contender too by the way I was going to laugh at some people who don’t watch the Pacers much or don’t watch games much in general vote that is a thing that happens like it sucks but it’s a reality like someone who doesn’t do that if they just go to basketball reference and sort by stats to vote oh Hal bur’s at the top of this that’s great I think that’s why sabonis gets all defense votes is people who don’t watch anything just sort by rebounding and go oh this guy’s the best at this thing you know it has to be it makes nothing else makes any sense to me it’s like sabonis deserved allba he was among the 17 I talked about but defense votes were crazy and that’s why I bring that up so I’m with you totally deserved was definitely one of the best 15 players in the NBA over the course of the full season got to 65 games deserves a spot if he never makes it again to be mentioned with this season in Pacers history books the inseason tournament run was ridiculous Allstar obviously assist record for the Pacers in a season only the second Pacers player to be named player of the week which is only a weekl long award but still um him and sabonis since the turn of this decade which is crazy would I mean it’s a weekl long award but it’s it’s hard to do so terrific season terrific stats and Tyrus hurn is a richer man I had a great time today Dave you know why in my cap sheet for the Pacers I have a color coding for estimated and I could get rid of the estimation baby more concrete numbers so this is not certain yet only because we don’t know what the exact salary cap figure for next year is going to be but the percentage for Halbert is now known he will make 30% in the first year of his upcoming contract of whatever the salary cap is the most recent projection is 141 million which is exactly 42.3 million in the first year the full value as of right the second of that deal for halber would be five years 24534 million my very hot take I’ll say now is that’s an underpayment my second thing I will say for people who don’t agree that it’s an underpayment uh one I don’t care but two in two years two years the Cap’s going to jump a ton with the TV money which now that there’s a third bidder thanks to Amazon the NBA is going to get a ton of money from that and the Cap’s going to jump a ton and the current projections if it jumps 10% would be almost $160 million meaning Halburn and if seak gets 40 million would be less than half of the cap two years two seasons from from now that’s fine that’s totally fine so yes I like this is stupid to say out loud but it’s a thing to say out loud the best case scenario for the Pacers is he makes 25% of the cap but that’s dumb they negotiated this into his contract he earned it and deserved it I’ll get into what it actually means for their offseason when the offseason is here which is crazy that I don’t get to do that when allba teams come out but they’re still playing but he earned this he earned the extra uh $41 million and that’s SAR that everything starts for the Pacers I think really people genuinely arguing that that the that this new HTT extension is not worth it well I I I don’t the way he closed the season people were like this isn’t an max player oh yes that’s right when he takes six shots in a playoff game people freak out and then he has 34 the next night and the people don’t don’t retract their statement yes yes yeah it’s it’s like you know fake Internet Guy voice for for takes that just infuriate me there’s so many I get I mean you know some people are kids I guess but like most people that are I see that are like commenting on stuff are have been watching basketball for more than a few years and it’s like like do you do you watch like game to game and remember what happens it’s like this is just this is NBA I mean this this is happens all the time this is just how it works it’s not every game’s the same that’s what makes NBA series so good I mean if it if every game was the same and everything kind of turned out the same way then there just be sing elimination tournament I mean it’s like one of the beautiful things about the the seven game series is that there’s es and flows and ups and downs and every game’s a little bit different and all kinds of crazy stuff happens and one guy is randomly awesome Obi toin is just like killing it in this game and you know like next game he’s probably going to disappear for most of most of it and that in your weird like really big lineup with Isaiah Jackson’s a point guard he’s not gonna get as many points scored and you know it’s uh that’s it’s B that’s that’s how basketball works I mean it just you know yep so you know somebody that you hate right now that you’re blaming for this loss is gonna go nuts in game three or whatever you know that’s just that’s how it works basketball you to you were totally right about that so the the Crux of this he deserves it 100% I agree with you there he made it he now is a richer man for it the camp was higher last summer when they had the party where they had the 260 balloons it’s never gonna it’s not gonna be 260 million unfortunately so those balloons will never be accurate uh but the party was awesome and the fake bills with tyres hurns face on them were tremendous uh really looking forward to seeing how they how they go now they have have him locked up for five years still a lot of time to build around a guy it’s a good place to be for the Pacers who uh perhaps intentionally perhaps unintentionally did built a very good team for what the new CBA is and they’re ready to go and they have have an all NBA caliber player to lead them into it I have nothing else to add are you excited for game two are you nervous give me a onew game two feeling one word oh gez um oh yeah excited you know it’s it’s for me I I love playoff basketball I love following one team obviously it’s good to see the Nar ises and you know care about the team and and watch them play it makes fanom a different experience but I just like watching basketball these are two really good teams I mean these two of the best teams in offensive teams in NBA history and you’re G to watch him go toe-to-toe uh the Pacers can do something really special here um by pulling out the series they could do something I think is still special if they take it to a hard six games or even seven games I mean that that’s going to be a really awesome experience but like I think that game one wasn’t a fluke no matter how many games we get in the series I think we’re going to get a lot of really good basketball games in it I’m really um uh was maybe worried or apprehensive about how this first postseason was going to go with this young core whether or not they were truly going to respond I remember we talked on this podcast earlier about like that hierarchy of everybody behind Boston you know like who was going to be the team that stepped up who was going to be the one that’s going to grab headlines p is the one that did it they’re the last one standing out of all those uh um those teams and now they’re on a national stage for many nights at least four nights probably more I think at least um and a there’s a lot of talk I mean how many times have you seen the headline somebody Jason Tatum Tyrese halberton Luca donish Anthony Edwards one of those young players will walk away with an NBA title this year who’s it gonna be and What’s It Gonna mean like he’s now forever part of a group of four I mean like and you know not saying it’s going to be a huge thing for forever but like a lot of the national conversation right now is about all these good young teams Pacers being one of them what’s the future going to hold who’s going to be the the best one and how that’s going to work and like all those other you know Orlando is not being talked about Cleveland’s not being talked about New York’s not being I mean no one else is in that conversation right now and I think that that matters you know if they’re gonna make this pitch that you know is not the the biggest Market in the world but we’re serious about winning we have an amazing point guard that’s going to make everybody better come join it just keep stacking up and keep building up the roster it’s still a little bit of a tough pitch to a certain degree but like SE yakum took it and now he’s doing great he’s looked awesome he was really good in this game um you know I I don’t know if that run stops as quickly as it did without se yakum you know you know he he just went out just bought a couple buckets that just kind of it was it was great um it worked with him and then like who’s the next guy I mean I don’t think it’s over someone else is going to come and so I think that’s a really big deal so yeah I mean I just I think we’re going to get treated to a lot of really good basketball games in this series and I’m excited for it and you know I do truly believe sometimes people throw up this phrase to to kind of compensate a little bit but they’re the six seed they’re so young they truly are playing with house money and you know watching them just try to get those sea legs a little bit and make a noise even further into the playoffs it’s kind of all gravy to me and so I think we’re going to get some awesome games so I’m really excited for it some including you disagreed with me I thought they playing with house money in the first round so this is a quite the Run they’ve been on and they’re getting a ton of experience and now have a lot of knowledge about how good they truly are Dave this was great exactly what I wanted out of this conversation conversations talked about two big things than you for the time where can people find you and your musings about the Pacers as they head into game two um Twitter if you uh if you squint every couple days I’ll I’ll I’ll put I’ll put a tweet out so you can find that uh on Twitter I believe it’s I’m sure that still works does x.com is that even a website open right now and it says it’s twitter.com in the URL at the top of the screen so oh it’s so sad even even in like the the emails that they send you that try to get you to come over it’s still like formerly Twitter ex formerly Twitter yeah I hate that I never type that everyone knows what I’m talking about one of those like no it’s it’s never gonna be it’s Twitter you can find me on Twitter you should should find Dave there I’m there at Tony R East and the show’s there at locked on Pacers back tomorrow after game two we’ll see if the Pacers even it up or if they have to do what they did last round and come back from down2 tell then everybody have a great day

Sure they sign Pascal.. Hopefully it will be for a FAIR contract. Because we need Kelly Oubre Jr. for sure. Caleb Martin, a Kessler Edwards. We gave up 3 1sts. Kessler is 23. He's had his issues Offensively, but can hit spot up 3s or catch n shoot 3s. Not much of a handler yet. But he can easily and very scrappy successful defender from positions 2-4 being who he guards most, but can 1-5. He's ripped, tough player. 6'7 fights his matchup Defensively. Kings are 6ppg better with him on the floor. Pacers need size and Defense. Edwards gives you all that with a guaranteed higher Defensive Rating than anyone else on their team at 23 years old. Who they could also get fairly cheap.. As the could these other guy's.. not as cheap as Kessler.. still.. missed out on Oubre at 2.8, I said get him last year. As I did Jones Jr. also and they're balling out all year.. and in the playoffs even more so.. We need to get guy's who can add Offense, guy's who can create their shots a bit, while also being the flat out shoot it well. Players that have the tenacity and show no fear. Like Kelly does and Mathurin does as well. We desperately need those two guy's. Players who attack and go get their points. Letting nobody get in their way. Scrappy as hell on D too. So give me that.. Miss on him, I pray we don't. But then get Caleb Martin. Who had the best Defensive Rating and can also shoot. Gets out in transition, scores there, attacking and playing high I.Q basketball. Getting himself to his spots, finding opportunities. 113. DR..
Smith isn't coming back, Heild is gone, Bruce not replaced. Kendall goes. No James. 5 spots available. Kelly Oubre or Caleb Martin. 🙏 for both. One and Kessler Edwards. Then add Andre fkn Drummond baby!! Lol or Jonas if he falls cheap. Retain Obi of course. Maybe we Draft Adem Bona* (Player Likeness Bam Adebyo) Get that C BEAST REBOUNDER, DEFENSIVE MENACE! or..
Jalen Bridges* SF Iso Ighodaro* 6'11 PF/C (can we please move up? Decent plalyer.. but 20-30?)
I like Bobi Klintman(6'9 PF/SF bigger than PG13, style similar, needs consistency%'s, has solid all around skills, loads of potential, nice handle, vision, shot form and dribble pull up looks fluid.. he can develop and has 2 way potential. Future PF, who could potentially become the best breakout SF… Next: I love
Jaylon Tyson 6'7 SG, great spot up shot at 3 and off screen's. He also has a solid handle and often gets cuts to the rim off screen's. Potential to become a SG/SF combo. Or permanent SF material, once he develops his strength. Has great shooting touch, with length is everything. Not a bursty player, yet very decisive and the know how/when to execute his skill. Hard to follow him, he will get his.
DaRon Holmes, a young man I haven't personally watched a lot of. But I believe his all around D to be for real. His athletic build at 6'10. Some stretch potential. No matter what that becomes. Add that with 6'10 who can come out onto the perimeter and be a hustle defender/rebounder in the paint. Can take it a little bit, score the ball inside the hoop as well. With the ability to get down court. Get to his spots, push guys out theirs and play lockdown D.. Makes DaRon worth the risk.
Jalen Bridges- late 36 pick. 6'8 SF who can do a little of everything. Not the biggest, as in the strongest(yet, he works) SF. Yet has the will and ability to work on himself. He plays hard and seems very coachable. He works out on his arm strength, overall core. He has a great outside shot, has a solid handle to get past guys to the rim. Goes all the way for a dunk. Never leaves himself vulnerable to be blocked from behind. Can use solid fakes, up and under. Reverse layups, solid defense and stance. Turns players over, can poke the ball lose, or pick off a pass. Chase guy's down for a block. Gets up quick laterally to block guy's near the rim as well. Solid timing, good perimeter Defender as well. Stays down and on his toes. The speed to keep in front of his Defeder. Also the speed to get passed his defender when on Offense. Jalen has a quick first step. Which was why I liked him over a guard who was in his pick(another mock). Yet even though the other guy was a bigger 6'4 SG Nembhard like), even with more skill. He didn't have the foot speed to be that good fast in the NBA. So once I saw Jalen near the 36 pick.. I said well if we miss everyone else.. At least maybe Jalen Bridges couldn't be a bad pick. 💪🙌 His play is unique and a nice mix of shooting/creating/defending/often driving to the rim. He's sort of like a mix of skinnier Mikal, but plays more like Miles Bridges. Yet in a 6'8, SF lean but authorative. He could build up to something more I believe.
Iso- he's similar to a Trace Jackson Davis. He can get boards. Playoff ball a bit to get open. Make moves to the rim from the paint to score. Play solid D get a couple blocks. Has I.Q, knows his moves around the rim and shot. Has up and unders. Layup and dunk packages. Decent handle and solid overall PF basketball player at 6'11. Maybe him, or Adem Bona. Lol
Gotta be Klintman, or Jaylon Tyson. We need them both… I'd had them, then gotten two more picks. Adem Bona, DaRon Holmes.. I still haven't done enough deep diving.. But those are my player's right now. I'd like Zach Edey of course.. But now it looks as if he's in the Top 10 at least.. smdh.. I wanted the Purdue boy too… A better, bigger and faster Rik Smits… why…. why not us??? 🙇 so many picks I wanted.
So.. Yeah… Cavs are looking to get rid of Jarrett Allen. I'm sorry, but Pascal. There's been some recent changes.. lol him with Turner? 😮FA+ Oubre, or Caleb Martin too, Edwards. Then 24 Draft: Tyson/Bona/Klintman/Holmes Rookies
0:53
Masathusets? Where is that?
I’m praying they split this and win game 2
I think 23mil 24/25 is fair for Pascal. 20mil 25/26, 19mil 26/27, 18 mil 27/28. Anymore is an overpay. 📝Trade: for Jarret Allen. Lol or for less, cause we need Oubre, Caleb Martin, Andre Drummond, Kessler Edwards and a young Draft player.
Adema Bona, Jalen Bridges..
If we can move up, Klintman, Jaylen Tyson and DaRon Holmes.
If we have nothing left to sign other backup FA's who can go out and get a bucket. Play some scrappy defense and a legitimate rebounder. A young asset from a previous year in Kessler since we had to trade away picks. He could be a lockdown defender for us. Then select a young guy from the Draft. Tyson or Bobi Klintman would be cool.. Any of those dude's really.
But if Pascal takes around 40 something, might as well plan on this team going nowhere… Defeats the entire purpose in even trying.. Won't ever be a serious contender if that bs happens.. If he wants that let him go.. Go after the other top FA's who are better clutch guy's. Plenty of guy's I can select to fill his position.
Or a sign and trade for Mikal Bridges… Try to sign away DeMar DeRozan, we got further than Chicago!!! 🤷
Lawd please let us win tonight lol
Siakam on tatum is definitely worth a try.
Getting Mathurin back next year will make the team better. At some point Jarace Walker maturing into a good player will make this team improve even more. The Pacers future looks bright no matter what happens in the next few games. I still expect this series to be close and think the Pacers have a chance to win it because of their playstyle.
The hate on Haliburton has felt truly strange. Perhaps this is what happens to every star breaking through into that top 15 but it feels like the hate for him is heightened from neutral fans and even some Pacers fans. The strangest dig I’ve seen people take at him is that he’s a product of the system the Pacers play which is just hilarious considering he calls the plays 😂
I dislike both these teams, I hope it goes to game 7 94th OT score 387-387 before someone has stroke (fully recovers) and the game stops and they just let the winner of the west have the title
We need to win in Boston, and win 2 games in indy
Must win for sure.
How does the media covering the game not talk about a 26-3 free throw discrepancy in regulation…. 3 free throws in regulation is insane
