Per Jake Fischer on OG Anunoby’s Contract Situation

“Anunoby is widely expected to decline his $19.9 million player option for next season after being dealt to New York before the trade deadline. Of note: While league personnel are of the mind Siakam will certainly be re-signing with Indiana, there was word circling among team officials at last week’s NBA Draft Combine that Anunoby’s situation with the Knicks is not as cut and dried. Perhaps those signals to rival teams will only help Anunoby elicit a larger dollar figure from the Knicks. But various teams left Chicago with the belief that Anunoby could reach unrestricted free agency and consider deals from other franchises in addition to New York, sources said.”

hes doing an aaron judge by meeting with other teams just to make the knicks give him more money

  2. As long as OG is CAA, i don’t see him not signing with us. Should he change agencies now, then we should get worried.

  3. The_Real_Todd_Gack

In contrast to reports about Brunson potentially taking so much less, this makes me feel

  4. Anunoby’s agent is Leon Rose’s son. He’s resigning with the Knicks.

This was my biggest issue w the trade.

RJ had 4 years left and IQ is going to be RFA so basically 4/5 years so long as you match.

    OG had half a season.

I don’t know why we gave up 8 years of contracts for the chance to pay OG.

Siakam went for a guy with a player option and a pick. That’s how you move guys that aren’t guranteed to return

Not only do I expect OG to sign an extension. I wouldn’t be surprised if he opts in to give the Knicks more flexibility (similar to what Josh Hart did). I don’t love reading reports like these though.

  7. NeighborhoodPT

If the issue is money then the Knicks will pay him . I can’t imagine him leaving this situation

  8. Not-Josh-Hart

Imo Brunson taking a discount allows us to overpay OG to keep him.

  9. He would need to have a statue next to Jalen if he opts in to the 19.9m player option

  10. SloDown4What

Would it be great to re-sign OG Anunoby? Probably, but it’s money they can use for a complimentary star to go with Brunson if OG signs somewhere else.

  11. Totally_PJ_Soles

“some officials” of franchises are stupid, sources say.

  12. we can be at ease with paying OG alot of money knowing we wouldnt be bidding against ourselves. either we pay him what he wants, or somebody else will.

  13. slimehype

Didn’t we just see a report yesterday where he said himself that he would take less to stay with the Knicks?

  14. JNerdGaming

ogs coming back but hes getting a bag. this was expected.

I don’t buy this for a second. The Knicks wouldn’t have traded RJ and IQ without already having the parameters of a deal worked out given who OG’s agent is.

  16. There is no way the knicks make that trade to the raptors without sitting down and discussing the future. If OG walks, i would be very surprised. I really believe Rose, his son, and OG sat down and worked out the future for him already. These reports do not confirm anything and is all speculation. Does anyone really believe the knicks make this trade for a half year rental and let him walk?

Just think about it for a second, That would turn into the worst decision in the Rose Era to trade IQ and RJ for only half a season with the knicks.

I would expect the FO mapped out exactly what they want to do moving forward and the players are all in.

Also of note: Jake Fischer’s OG reports have historically existed almost solely to ruffle feathers. I recall it getting to a point where OG’s former teammate Scottie Barnes blocked Jake Fischer on Twitter and IG or something. It feels like his reporting on OG has either been off the mark or just not substantiated? Or at the very least greatly exaggerated- again, to ruffle feathers and shake stuff up

EDIT: article I found on the Scottie stuff- [https://nypost.com/2022/06/16/raptors-scottie-barnes-blasts-bleacher-reports-jake-fischer/](https://nypost.com/2022/06/16/raptors-scottie-barnes-blasts-bleacher-reports-jake-fischer/)

EDIT (again): I also don’t think Jake Fischer is necessarily a bad reporter. He’s got a great book and did a tremendous job with offseason reporting a couple years ago, I just think OG is one of the more elusive guys in the league so it’s only natural to salivate at the chance to get something out of him and his camp since he’s notoriously tough to crack and figure out. I think more often than not there really isn’t much drama (if any) surrounding someone like OG but everyone is tempted by the idea that there’s some big headline or some drama behind the quiet kid

Can’t remember the last time Jake Fischer was right about one of his “reports”

  19. I believe he will sign for 4 yrs with an avg of 35M per season.. one of those escalating contracts.. his injury history is well documented. Availability is your best ability. Any team that signs him will have fine print stating to reach his max amount he will have to be available x amount of games. Great player. Unfortunately, he is prone to injuries and averages about 50 games per season.

  20. NYerInTex

Not concerned on iota about this report. That doesn’t mean I’m 100% confident in OG’s return, but I am pretty confident, moreso with his CAA representation, and no less confident with this useless extended clickbait

It’s silly season for conjecture and we will see a ton of this.

  21. Ok-Side-1758

OG didn’t limp his way onto the court for Game 7 in a contract year just to sign with another team.

    He’s staying.

  22. CornCobb890

Not happening for a lot of reasons. Knicks would be insane not to match any offer. They were 1 win away from the ECF with a decimated team. Of course they will want to see what a healthy version of this squad can do.

Also, there’s no reason for the Knicks not to match. We have his bird rights. Sure it will be annoying if another team offers him $40m/year but it still makes sense for the Knicks to match. This will allow them to go over the cap. If the Knicks let OG walk, they don’t magically have another $40m to spend. They’d basically have nothing for free agents if hartenstein resigns. Would you rather slightly overpay OG or sign Dario Saric on the MLE?

Lastly, I know he didn’t play much and he ran gingerly but the dude played with a clearly strained hammy. If OG was really just trying to make the most money, he’s not going out there, risking a torn hamstring which would have cost him 10s of millions. There is clearly a back door deal on the table. To believe otherwise would be silly.

  23. fat_lever123

OG is going to resign but he also is going to make us give him every single dollar he’s earned.

    Can’t blame him.

  24. beldarconehead

I think this is the Knicks/Agent trying to not lose a second round pick for tampering (Brunson Style).

Take some meetings; make it seems like you’re open for recruitment; and sign with the Knicks as opposed to to just signing.

But I spend my days changing diapers and trying to convince kids to eat vegetables. Fischer spends his days talking to NBA people, so who knows

  25. datatadata

Obv he won’t pick up the player option. He is re-signing a new deal with us though

  26. Gator1508

If he walks we got out from under RJ contract and having to pay IQ more than he’s worth.  Obviously not ideal but it gives us flexibility.

I’m thinking if we do resign to a max deal, we will come to regret it in 2-3 years.  We will be getting a part time player and we need to know that going in.

  27. HipnotiK1

nonsense. not only is he going to sign with the knicks but he’s going to take a discount (relative to what he could get as a FA)

  28. Fistfulofhopeless

This is nothing but FO practicing the use of disinformation to squash any tampering claims that come about in the future. Those second-round picks add up.

  29. NickPapagiorgio2k16

I wouldn’t be shocked if he left. I would bet the contract was already agreed to before he even set foot in NY

  30. SpecialistTrash2281

I don’t believe it for a second. When the trade happened it was reported the NY was his preference and he would take a discount to stay here. And that why the Knicks didn’t have blow Toronto away. Team were hesitant to trade for him not believing he would stay.
