What’s next for the Cavaliers after the firing of J.B. Bickerstaff? | SportsCenter

but Matt we begin with our breaking NBA news the Cleveland Cavaliers today firing their head coach JB bicker staff this coming after bicker staff led the Cavs to their first trip to the Eastern Conference semi-finals in six years despite navigating injuries to several key players let’s talk about it with reporter Tim Bon Temps with us from Boston where he is covering Celtics and Pacers Tim more on that Series in just a second let’s focus on the team the Celtics just beat in the last Series in the wake of the JB bicker sta firing what is ahead for Cleveland well Jay as you said it’s been a successful couple of years for the Cavs it went from the playin tournament two years ago to losing the first round to the Knicks last year to beating the Orlando Magic and advancing to the Eastern Conference semi-finals winning a playoff series Without LeBron James for the first time in 30 years but the Cavaliers looked at this situation where they wanted try to progress to be a team that’s contending for Conference Finals and finals appearances and decided they wanted to go in a different direction than having JB bicker staff as the coach and as they look forward to who the next coach is going to be Jay the question hanging over the franchise now is what is going to happen with Donovan Mitchell Mitchell obviously one of the stars in the league would have been an all-nba player this year if not for some injuries that he suffered down the stretch of the regular season he is up for an extension this summer and if he chooses to extend he obviously will be the Cornerstone of what happens in Cleveland over the next several years and if he does not extend he only has one guaranteed year left on his contract and will immediately become a guy that is looked at as a top trade Target for teams around the league because as we saw back in 2017 when Dan Gilbert saw Kyrie Irving was not going to extend his contract with one year left on his deal he looked at that situation said we need to move on from Kyrie we need to get stuff in here for him and that is how he ended up in Boston here with the Celtics so we’ll see what happens with Donovan Mitchell going forward but obviously the first step in what’s a very busy offseason for the Cavs was deciding what to do with their head coach and as you said they decided today to part ways with JB picker staff [Music]

  1. Seems like a move to bring jj Redick in so you know who can come and play with you know who

  2. People say this makes no sense. Let me help it make sense:

    1. 35-16 at end of January, to 48-34 by season's end. That is 12-19 in their last 31 games, including 3-11 on the road. (road record combines to 4-17 with playoffs).
    2. Terrible rotation, the amount of times he played Niang when Morris should have played was unacceptable.
    3. Terrible conditioning of players which led to the majority of injuries.
    4. Way too many blown 4th quarter leads, especially down the stretch. They would be great in the 3rd, then get stomped in the 4th quarter.

    Inconsistent play, injuries and just lack of good judgement is why Bickerstaff got fired.

  3. No one in here is a cavs fan if they think this coach is good. He had horrible substitution issues in key games and coached poorly down the stretch.

  4. Trade garland and Allen for ja morant and play him at sg……then cavs would absolutely rock.

    Trade okorro for a real 3 and d who isn't a deer in headlights at the 3 point line

  5. Lebron james is a fool for not coming back to this team on a discount for a easy ring or 2

    Mitchell
    Garland <——trade
    Strus
    Lebron
    Mobley

    Craig porter
    Levert
    Okorro <—trade
    Niang <—-trade
    Allen <—–trade?

    I'm trying to trade garland Allen with ja morant….even if 3 or 4 way trade. I can get role guys ro fill the bench spots.

  6. This is not unlike many other coaches being fired over the years, even a few NBA Coach of the Year winners have been fired.

  7. The people shocked by this don’t watch the games, the dude was horrible and couldn’t adjust to save his life. Only had two plays in his playbook it felt like.

  8. JB was a bad coach and y'all who are saying you don't understand clearly didn't watch any cavs games. He's good for a rebuild and awful when you're trying to compete.

  9. Vogel, Ham and Bickerstaff fired? Then Ty Lue is still the coach of the Clippers after 4 years of experimenting with the Clippers' exceptional talented roster. WOW!

  10. Corinthians 15:1-4
    King James Version
    15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

    2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

    3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

    4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

  11. For everyone who is saying that this was a mistake or certain teams should be jumping on him, he’s not a terrible coach but he’s not a good coach. His office playset is very limited – he is a defensive coach. most of what he does is pick and rolls. He does not develop young talent. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley should be further along in their development but they are not. He usually does well in the first half of the season and does putrid in the second half. So for those of you who are extremely excited about the chance of getting him as a head coach, I would advise you. He’s good for a young team that needs training but he is not good for a team that is trying to compete
