do you feel like Jaylen Brown is the most underrated NBA star you know what I do feel like I feel like we had this conversation every single season and far as us having this conversation every single season I feel like the answer is yes he is the most underrated star in the NBA because we pra Jay you can fix your body language and you can fix your face Steen is the only one that tell me I can fix my face per only stepen a can say that that is so here so here’s the thing right think about this when you think about the the players right that are in his tier you you think about guys like Paul George we talk about him all the time Devin Booker right uh Donovan Mitchell and here’s jayen Brown a 27 year old stud that is just scratching the surface of his prime one of the best two-way players in the game and he don’t get enough appreciation and I’m guilty guilty of it as well because if the Celtics win we’re always looking at who Jason Tatum right whether he plays well or don’t right we’re saying oh can Jason Tatum can he take that leap of being the best player in the world and here it is Jaylen Brown would have 33 points and be leading the team and scoring so I feel with Jaylen Brown is saying every single season he comes out and he’s producing I understand they had a drop from last season to this season because of the Personnel they have around them right they have the the best starting five in basketball but when it comes to being underrated underappreciated we have this conversation time and time again every single season about Jaylen Brown and he is underrated one of the most underrated stars in the game well listen he might be one of the most underrated stars in the game Big perk and I’m certainly not going to disagree with you with that the brother can ball when he got over $300 million we not we didn’t sneeze at that cuz we know he got the talent to back it up we saw him performing the NBA Finals he performed better than Jason Tatum in the NBA Finals but when you answer this question when you’re answering this question understand the impetus for it is the fact that he didn’t make an all NBA team so ultimately what we have to go back to Jay as well as big perk Who you gonna take off okay so we look at the first team right I’m sitting there I’m not taking off uh Shay gilis Alexander or Luca donic I’m not doing that I mean when we look at Jaylen Brunson on the second team we not going to mess with that when we look at the third team you talking about a Steph Curry you talking about a Devin Booker what you going to do is there somebody that you going you’re going to take off now if you want to make the argument that Devin Booker should come off he’s missed some games even though he average 27 him and KD he had KD and Bradley Beal as a teammate I think that’s an argument you can make when you look at the load that Steph Curry had to carry I don’t think you can touch touch Steph Curry I don’t think you even want to touch jayen Brunson big body Brunson and what he did this year right we got to look at halberton we look at Indiana being the number one offense in the NBA 123 points per 100 possessions the only team in the league to shoot better than 50% from the field collectively as a team they they’re the only ones who did it okay I’m looking at them they clearly have overachieved they in the Eastern Conference Finals going up against Boston so I understand what you’re saying about Jaylen Brown in terms of answering that specific question one of the most underrated NBA stars we don’t mention him enough we don’t appreciate him enough but in the same breath Jaylen Brown has to understand is when you’ve got the best record in basketball when you’re universally recognized as having the best starting five in basketball when you have The Supporting Cast that he clearly has at his disposal which would facilitate his greatness coming to shine through to some degree because you got cats around you that folks out to focus on as well now you got to ask the question Jay Williams and I’ll pass it off to you with this question when you look at a Devin Booker when you look at a Steph Curry when you look at a Jaylen Brunson when you look at a Luca or Shay Gil just Alexander Jaylen Brown do you have to carry the load that those individuals had to carry and if so would you be what you are we’ve never found out because Jason Tatum is his teammate and now he’s got Drew holiday Derek white and porzingis with him great Point great Point Stephen big perk first off I I owe you a call back brother uh last two weeks of surgery I I love you you my guy you I just want take that for the record you’re my guy we about to spar right now though I mean i’ have been ignored by better people no us got be nice be nice that Stephen A over the last you know 15 years I’ve been here we got to answer the question man we and I I saw you you started to oscillate a little question to oscillate it’s yeah oscillate it the question was is Jaylen Brown the most underrated player in the league and you started off your comment with a strong conviction on that being the case and then when you Clos your commentary you then change it to one of the most underrated that but that wasn’t the question so let’s get back to the most underrated I mean three weeks ago Stephen A it was Jaylen Brunson the most most underrated NBA play it was just three weeks ago it was Jaylen Brunson so we can’t change the answer that to now the being the case for it being Jaylen Brown and also the last fact I will and now pass time back to you Mr perk you can’t be the most underrated player in the NBA when you’re the highest paid player you have the biggest contract in the NBA that means that the NBA and the Boston Celtics recognize your worth they recognize your value by giving you a $300 million contract that means you are him that means the world can talk about is he Batman or is he Robin is he Superman or is he Batman but we here in this organization and around the league we are going to give you that supermax because we know your value we know your worth here so you’re not underrated you’re rated exactly where you’re supposed to be with the biggest contract in NBA history right now when it comes down to being underrated and underappreciated when we look at it again we go back to the point of when we come on here we’re always talking about who his teammate your Duke brother and Jason Tatum so he don’t get the proper recognition he deserve so when he have like a game like he had last night a 40 piece wing dinner now all of a sudden we come back on here we like oh well damn do we show this brother enough love and he got to go out and grip in the media or the Boston media and the fans got to bring it to our attention again that hey Jaylen Brown is like that when you talk about two of the best sum one of the best Duos in the game is him and Jason Tatum he can’t be punished hit me out he cannot be punish Jay will for the people that he have around him that whole starting five think about this when they’re healthy every single guy on that starting five could be in the allstar game okay go hold on let me sh a couple things number one I’m not going to say that he can’t be hurt because there’s been plenty of times throughout NBA history when we we look at the teammates around you to decide your value because of the ease with which your responsibilities you know the responsibilities that you have because if you got a star studed cast around you and you’re Superior the most competitors that does make life a bit easier for you and when we see the arduous task that other stars have and we see how they overcome it individually we can’t ignore that but number two I’m going to throw this out to both of y’all and Jay I’m going to come to you first with this and you say what you want to say whatever point you was going to make but I want to read to y’all what an NBA Source just sent me he said Jaylen Brown it’s not so much that he’s underrated it’s that he’s just not liked because of his quote I am better than you attitude he knows it it’s the same reason he is not as marketable as he should be that’s what an NBA Source just sent me I don’t know that to be the case I like Jaylen Brown I know a lot of people that like Jaylen brown but again when you think about marketability that’s what that person was alluding to do y’all think there’s any Credence to that whatsoever in terms of the conversation that we’re having I mean I I think he should be marketed more I I think the term underappreciated is more relevant here for this conversation more so than underrated got I think I think the reality Stephen A is that whenever we talk about certain brand names like you’re gonna lead with Jason Tatum because it’s been established as he’s been the guy for them even though Jaylen Brown should have been the guy or same with LeBron James or Stephen Curry so I I I think that goes back to your original point though about how other guys have to carry the load in a different fashion than Jaylen Brown needs to carry it throughout the regular season so when you’re not going to get that Pub because you’re sharing that Limelight with Jason Tatum with the likes of having a Drew holiday or with even Derek white what he’s brought to the table there’s a lot more responsibility there because it’s more of a collective than is Shay gilis Alexander being in an MVP conversation or what Giannis needs to do it’s just the the narratives around how that team is built and how they’re carrying the weight throughout the regular season is differently positioned than it is for the other people that are going to get pushed up to the top of the conversation yeah because you got you got a sacrifice more that’s the that’s the word in it right when you have that type of per when you have that Personnel around you you have to sacrifice and it’s part of it got it okay I just wanted to thr that IES point though that I’m With You Stephen that’s it interesting when you hear people talk about Jaylen Brown how it’s he’s Cut From a Different Cloth now and I think sometimes I love it but I know it can cut it can it can rub other people the wrong way I love it I’m here for it [Music]
