The coach the Cavs hire will be Donovan Mitchell related! – Windy talks future of Cavs 👀 | Get Up

most expressive fingers in all of sports media it’s time for a windy watch and this is a on-topic windy watch there was a firing in the NBA yesterday Wendy what should we make of it yeah so Cav’s president uh Kobe Alman is going to have a press conference today trying to explain his rationale behind firing JB bicker deatha you look at the last four years they went from uh Lottery team to play in to playoffs the second round and they still made the coaching change and what Kobe is not going to really probably be able to articulate that was absolutely a factor here is the Donovan Mitchell piece every decision the Cavs make between now and when Donovan Mitchell makes his decision on a contract extension in July is going to be wrapped around that and Donovan Mitchell and JB bicker staff’s relationship was something that could concerned the Cavs it was absolutely a factor in the decision to fire him they’re going to protect their star player that is what they’re going to do but this this coaching move and the the person that they hire will be Donovan Mitchell related and when they do meet with him after the finals because that’s when they’re allowed to talk to him and and offer the contract extension the new coach and the new coach’s plan and and the offseason roster will be a big part of that presentation is your is your feeling Jay that Donovan Mitchell is going to commit long-term there again for those who’ve not been following this there really three options Wendy correct me if I’m getting any of this wrong one of them is that he signs a long-term contract extension in Cleveland great another is that I guess there’s really the two options he he defini he doesn’t and they face a decision of holding on one more year and hoping that he you know decides after that year that he’s happy there or trading him and make sure they don’t wind up losing him for nothing I I should have said two options those are the two options which do you think winds up happening but I do not think Donovan Mitchell is going to be in Cleveland long term I don’t um you know I I think Kobe Alman was put in a really precarious situation obviously because you you got your star player if he didn’t have a great relationship with JB biera but I mean biera was a really good coach right you got his team very far um I I think it puts Cleveland in a difficult situation where I I don’t think they’re going to win this thing when it’s all said and done my personal feeling that’s why I don’t know anything it’s my personal feeling Monica I want to ask a question to the radio voice of the New York Knicks because everyone and I know thought that Donovan Mitchell was going to come to the next don’t even do it stop stop no that tell me why why because you Jaylen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell do not play together like and not because they don’t have great basketball IQ but it’s not a good fit you’re going to two six2 guards like it just doesn’t work to me it’s just not a good fit in terms of the style of basketball that they both play basketball like you sure they could do it but to me that takes away from the identity of a Tom Tibido Le Knicks team and that actually was the reason why they they they dragged their feet on making the trade two years ago when it seemed like it was a fate Complete because there was there was an analytics portion of that front office with the Nicks that didn’t like the matchup because remember they had just brought in Jaylen Brunson but I think in Donovan Mitchell’s situation now you’re only as loyal as your options and I don’t know if he has many other options that he can consider when you take away the Knicks as a place that he did want to land so the best option might be to stay there and let them build around you in well wi winman final word what might those options be in a world in which he doesn’t resign you had told us last week that teams are already readying their offers who will The Usual Suspects be here there would be a handful of teams who would prepare offers if he became available and all of those teams would be willing assign him to the $200 million extension that the Cavs are willing to offer the key a key huge Point here is because he was traded in the middle of this contract the Cavs do not have the super max Advantage even though he’s made all NBA and if he if he was still on the Jazz he could sign a supermax but because he was traded he loses it that means the Cavs lose that advantage and that’s a factor here that is a play a factor in the way and by the way that’s not a surprise the Cavs knew that when they traded for him but that’s a factor and how he is looked at he they they don’t have as much home field Advantage as other players in this situation am I the only person who finds the supermax the most interesting contractual element in professional sports today the supermax is a fascinating thing to follow he’s not eligible for one it could be the reason he doesn’t stay in [Music] [Applause] [Music] Cleveland is

  1. The level of nuance and complexity in this discourse is truly impressive. It's like peeling back layers of an intellectual onion.🔥

  2. Bad news for the Knicks, i can see Mitchell wanting Johnny Bryant to be the coach "IF" he plans on staying there.

  3. They could make the best decision they could make and give him the best opportunity they can and he could still leave 😂

  4. Thank you Monica. Finally someone on ESPN said it. So tired of ESPN dragging the Knicks into every stupid far flung trade. Stop using Knicks for clicks.

  5. This gives me echoes of the Bucks and Adrian Griffin, which has been a disaster and set the Bucks back a long way in their pursuit of a title. Cavs might have just threw away a year spent adjusting to an entirely new system and coaching staff from the staff of the past 5 years who brought them from 22 wins in 2020 to the second round of the playoffs in 2024. Who is available that’d be a better coach than Bickerstaff? Vogel? Kenny Atkinson, I guess.
And what, if they regress next year with a new coach and system does Mitchell just force his way out and leave?

I have my doubts that Donovan Mitchell is even worth that level of disruption to the team and franchise. Cavs just sold it all to bend over backwards to allow Mitchell to pretend-play being GM for the day. I doubt this ends well.

  6. Correction, Brunson and Mitchell played together at the All-Star game this year, so that’s wrong of saying that they never played together. In yo faces

  7. Jay Williams never has a good take. Why do we keep asking people questions that don’t have a clue what they’re talking about? Called JB a great coach here. That’s someone that clearly hasn’t watched the Cavs over the last two years.

  8. Mark Jackson as head coach …fire Luke Walton and bring back MARKENNAN…somehow…and K Love as backup big…bring up Emoni Bates…get Bronny James as 3rd backup pg…have Lebron take a hometown discount and come back to Cleveland to retire…sign Facu Compazzo as 2nd backup pg…Get rid of Tristan Thompson…trade Caris Levert and maybe Darius Garland …if you can get Mykal Bridges….cut Niang to make space for Emoni Bates….keep Struss…high IQ player…and lastly draft …Dalton Kchnect …or …that one shooter…Reed Sheppard…..thats what i would do…if i was GM of the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS!!!!….seriously…and i wont even get STARTED on the CLEVELAND BROWNS….

  9. Media wanted Don out of Cleveland so bad they made up rumors all year long. Now he’s ab to sign his extension and none of the liars are getting called out. Also don’t forget what this fatty said ab Mobley

  10. Charles Barkley once said “being a GM or president of basketball operations is the best job in the world, because you get to blame and fire 3 to 5 people before they realize YOU’re the problem “ 😂😂

  11. With or without bickerstaff the cavs had a 2nd round ceiling. They dont have a top 2 roster in the east. If all teams are healthy, they are behind the Celtics, Sixers, Bucks Knicks and maybe the Heat.

  12. The narrative that him and Brunson can’t play together is idiotic teams would be forced to double one of them they would give teams hell and the Knicks have players to cover their defense
