Rich Paul brings up Dolan when discussing Bronny James/nepotism

"When you look at America as a whole, it's built on the nepotism. No one's having this conversation about Jim Dolan. He owns the Knicks, but his dad built a business. Same with Casey Wasserman. Lou Wasserman built a business. I got plenty of friends that come from very wealthy families whose families built a business, and when it's their turn to take charge, they're not sitting on the couch. They're looking to enhance it."

Maybe no big deal, but seems a bit out of pocket considering the reports that the relationship between CAA/Klutch was finally mended. Don’t think Dolan likes getting name dropped as a nepo baby lol.

  2. zOmgFishes

We had a former president give his unqualified kids roles in the fucken White House. Thanks for pointing out the obvious Rich.

  3. Railshock

Ownership and inheritance is different than nepotism.

  4. DejisHairline

Yeah, Dolan is a nepo baby, but as much as I dislike him he’s clearly pretty good at running his business

The amount of public people coming out to defend it is wild. James Dolan is wildly unqualified and its why its been decades of misery. Its why corportate overrun of culture is awful. Cronyism and Nepotism is modern feudalism.

Yes sometimes a family business gets passed down. Small businesses makes sense. But we are talking multi million businesses and institutions that shouldn’t be turned into modern monarchies where unqualified fools get handed the keys over highly skilled and trained individuals, as a birth right.

Even Bronny situation, maybe we are all proven wrong and he is the real deal. That said there are so many people working their ass off, against all odds for limited spots. Who are gonna get overlooked for a guy averaging a triple single in college because his dad is doing everything he can to get teams to sign him earlier than a late 2nd or Undrafted.

This “nepotism” didn’t seem like a problem for lebron when he signed with the Jeanie buss ran lakers….

  7. sons of bball players are everywhere in the nba. some are legit scrubs, some are steph curry. being lebron’s son can only take you so far. bronny still actually has to perform if he wants to have staying power. so i have no issue with him getting a chance.

  8. TheeBigSmokee

Lol of course no jeannie slander, bron staying in LA

  9. This quote reads as if nobody has ever badmouthed Dolan for being handed a team (which he proceeded to wreck). Don’t think you would like it if media and the fans treated Bronny the way we treated Dolan the last 20 years.

  10. MesiahoftheM

Dolan is garbage lol 5 years of good basketball in the last 20 years should tell you enough. Good for him on staying out of it now but he is absolute trash

  11. achristian103

What am I supposed to take from this?

He brought up Dolan. Big deal. He didn’t really trash the guy or say anything that wasn’t true. Yes, Dolan inherited the team from his father. And?

  12. Living_Internet_2970

Honestly Rich Paul and lebron makes u want to root against bronny

  13. FrankieSaysRAGE

Honestly, Brunson is low key a nepo baby too. Everyone underestimated/undervalued him. It took his father’s network and connection giving him a chance despite all the haters for him to fully achieve his potential. Nepotism isn’t inherently a bad thing especially if the benefactor of said favoritism can use the advantage to surpass their peers.

I don’t get what people expect. Are parents just not supposed to set up their kids for success? I get it sucks when someone gets something over you because of who their parents are, but that’s life.

Like if I was rich I would absolutely set my kid up for a career that will make them (and by extension the family) wealthier, even if they probably weren’t as qualified as other candidates. I mean isn’t that the point of making money, to set you and your family and loved one’s up for a good life? Life isn’t fair.

Giannis, JR Smith and Obi Toppin all had/have bros signed to knicks contracts off the top of my head. Then there’s the story about why we ever even drafted Renaldo Balkman. NBA is the only sport with a Nepotism problem.

  16. wetfarts2

Rich Paul and his business advancements are closer then Nepotism then Dolans inheritance

  17. mavrik2190

He’s wrong. When Dolan is spoken about, Nepotism is one of the first things that’s brought up. Most people know his dad started HBO and Cablevision.

  18. BaldCommieOnSection8

There is literally nothing wrong with nepotism (to an extent), your children should get a bit of an edge over others if you’re the one deciding who gets the opportunity.

A bit of an edge, read that twice, before the pedants of Reddit start sperging out.

  19. pr1ncejeffie

If bronny gets picked in the first round that’s on the GM. No one is forced to draft him. Bronny just gets some doors open more than others.

Rich Paul can say whatever the fck he wants. I’m pretty sure if no one drafts him… He’s gonna pull that race card or the media has a bias against him.

  20. Titaneuropa

This is similar to when kids get a good start in life, go to a good school, etc because of the hard work done by their parents. It’s fair he gets chance based on the work his father did, but if he stays on the roster while clearly being bad and just takes up spot from somebody else who is clearly better than him then that is a problem. That being said good luck to him, hope he gets better.

  21. If he thinks America is built on nepotism he should take a look at every other country

  22. WhelpStupidUserName

These guys are just so delusional. Everyone hates Dolan. No one ever defends that dude.

These guys prop Bronny up and then act like he’s some victim for having a target on his back. Either sit back and let the kid do his thing or don’t. You can’t have both.

I just don’t get the point in all this.

  23. aesop_fables

I don’t think people are upset because Lebron is going to get Bronny into the league. I think it’s because he’s not good and he will likely be drafted, maybe even in the first round round. Bronny is not an nba player. I’ve played better people at the local gym.
