Is Luka Doncic Unstoppable for The Wolves? | JJ Redick and Tim Leger
two things I want to I want to talk about as it relates to this series uh number one is Minnesota’s desire to not put two on the ball um and number two because you brought this up and I immediately was like Kyrie Irving you you brought up this idea of not a 1 a and a 1B or one and a two it’s it’s co-stars and when I think of co-stars right now I think of Luca and Kyrie I said it before the series The reason I picked Dallas for me primarily was because I don’t think Luc is affected that much by length and quickness he’s affected more by strength and because he plays slower if you don’t get ground on those nudges with his shoulder that he likes to hit you with if you’re not backing up you’re Lou Dort you’re you’re wearing him out a little bit more you’re taking his legs you’re hand on hand on the release and I think you’re gonna have to take the ball out of his hands more because he’s gonna have a lot of success with these matchups I believe so that’s one adjustment for them how do you deal with Luca a different way or else I think you’re gonna get a lot of the same result um real quick because I think I think you you you brought this up with Luca in in the drop against goar and I want to be very specific on this and I think this will evolve throughout the series they want to they want to not put two on the ball and Stan brought this up a number of times on the broadcast um the problem with Luca um and you could put LeBron in this in this sort of ilk to harden for sure is these bigger guys when you put two on the ball they can make every pass they can they can throw the pass across their body they they can make behind the back pass to the PO the popper they can hit the short roller so you don’t want to do it um yeah goar in drop versus Luca this is a crazy stat in game one Dallas scored 1.41 points per possession when Luca was in a pick and roll and goar was in drop for the season Luca versus drop was the third best player in the NBA at 1.15 so 26 points better per 100 possessions in that game one with goar in a drop despite that despite that goar defending at The Rim Dallas shot 55% when he was on the floor when he was off the floor they shot 100% they were 14 for 14 so it’s not in some cases both things can be true right yeah this like him on the floor helps your team mhm they have to figure out the coverage in the Luca pick and roll particularly in late game look I I think the the big thing that people talk about with the great players are like oh you got to mix it up you got to mix it up yes okay I I think you do have to mix it up but you also have to recognize time and score and what you’re willing to live with what you’re willing to give up and to me late game Luca versus drop I’m not living with that especially against Jaden McDaniels I’m just not because your point on Lou Dort versus Jaden McDaniels um it’s valid right it’s valid he he doesn’t play fast he’s got size he’s got strength he’s got width he’s going to body Jaden McDaniels and so I I I think in some ways late game particularly Minnesota has to look to do something different in that pick and roll with LCA donic I completely agree and that’s listen this is why this is why I trust Luca so much and Trust Dallas and that’s why you know I think of the people remaining that are playing and honestly even going into the playoffs every single player with maybe the exception of jic but I’m not even sure that I might put Luke at the very top of the list in terms of okay we’ve just battled for 44 minutes it could go either way we’ve got Luca controlling the action the rest of the way making all these decisions whether it’s a shot maker or finding someone whatever is required I’ll take him against anybody and and so the only way that I would feel maybe different is if somehow you’re affecting him in the actions he wants to run and they were not doing that in that moment of the game down the stretch he got what he wanted because he got the coverag as he wanted he has the Personnel guard him that he’s comfortable with and what they were doing with the second Defender very comfy cozy you can’t let him live in that place man he looks good he’s very comfortable with what they’re throwing at him defensively Minnesota’s got to do something different I think you’re 100% right and that’s going to be a big part of what we’re going to be looking at if you get to a one possession game again you know coming out of that last manatory timeout what is Minnesota going to do differently on him

JJ trying to hedge back na fam stay over there on that other side
Wild how Luka is already the GOAT
It's only a matter of time till teams start stacking fat centres again to body Luka like they did with Shaq. These skinny tall boys are nothing for Luka he breaks them like twigs
Im sorry but the games have been close. The timberwolves have really suffered from Ant's bad performance more than anything and I donr know who made the bonehead call of putting Rudy Gobert on luka for that last play. Gobert always seemed more of a rim protector, so to have him so far away from the basket protecting luka seemed out of place. Almost like just giving luka a basket. Maybe they should try puttting Ant on luka, Ant guarding kyrie, wqs always a terrible idea.
Ant and Kat have combined for 30% shooting in the series, and it's taken Mavs rallies at the end of both games to win. More of the same would favor Minnesota.
Luka's knee better hold up, if he's out the Mavs can't win
What’s crazy is. Dort did the best job because he’s strong enough, but even he got cooked 😂. Luka is wild
Everyone is saying “ two on the ball” as if doubling doesn’t mean the same thing.
The head coach #Lakers
The answer is Jordan Rules
Facts
U cant stop really stop him, he's to saavy
Luka is 6'8" and big so there are 0 guards that can match up with Luka and forwards are generally a better match up but they have a difficult time with that matchup too because they generally aren't quick enough. Dort is strong but Luka just shoots over him as Luka has about 5" in height on Dort. 💯
JJ you have to get on air and call out the generational disrespect and delusional hatred your colleagues like Stephen A give Luka lmao. It’s comical and cringe at this point
They stop him with the defensive player of the year…..o wait.
Anthony Edward’s guard Luka Mcdaniels guard Kyrie
Tim legler the ONLY ANALYST on espn who knows wtf they’re talking about Dallas you valid in the city legs 🤝💯 #MFFL
If ant and Kat bother to show up it won’t matter
So if JJ want to be Laker's coach, how do you limit Luka? You can't just say Minnesota must make changes. What would be the changes? What's your answer?
Edward might be the incoming MJ but Luka is already the new Bird and Kyrie is the Isaiah Thomas of this generation and both in the same team and both beat MJ and again Edward has not attained MJ level yet.
That’s cool and all, but where do I get that golf (gulf) hoodie?
Nice. However.. It's going to be 10 pts for Dallas and not a one posession game in the last minute. 😉 At least I hope so. :))
How do they stop Luka?? Beg the league for permission
Curious how this conversation would be different if wolves hadn’t flubbed late-game leads. Could EASILY be 2-0 wolves right now.
Luka has been playing really good defense to go with his offense and is the best player left in the playoffs. Proving wrong all the media members like Perk, Wilbon, and SAS.
Wolves will make an adjustment for game 3. Probably blitz Luka the entire time. Mavs will still win in 4 tho
You can't. Simple. What you CAN do is shut down everyone else, stay home on your man as he drives, don't allow him to pass, and let him score 120 points. If I'm the Wolves, I put my worst defender on Luka and try to lock down the rest of the court.
I had Mavs in 6 😊
Tim is the best analyst out there!
Lucky for them Luka not 💯… But even all the injuries he still beats them
Normally I agree with most things JJ says, but I completely disagree with his opening about Katie and Luka. There is no question to someone who has watched every Maverick game this year who is in total control on the floor. Luka is without A doubt the floor general and leader.
Ant says I’m tired. 😂 you figure? What great leadership he’s giving 😂😂
GO,GO, Luka and Mavs❤ Stay cool ! Good luck!
Kat should be on the floor with Anderson , Conley , Edward’s , and who ever else is feeling it for that day
JJ was spot on about the pick and roll dilemma with Gobert
Time and situational awareness. Rudy getting burned at the end of Game 2 is completely on Rudy. If he didn't bite on the fake drive, there's no three. If Luka gets by him and tries for the two, Rudy and the backline still have a chance to defend it with time running out and a pass to any three-point shooter unlikely.
Zone d
KAT NAZ ANT CONLEY MCDANIELS
I wanna see 70 three's tonight. Let's goooooo!!!! 🐺 💪😂
The best defense I have seen on Luka was by Dort and Dort pretty much fouled him on every possession. Luka ended that series with a couple of triple doubles. There is no one on the Wolves who is as good as Dort is at defense. I also think SGA is better than Edwards too.
2 1/2 minute question from JJ.
Series aint over yet fellas
Luka has the strength, kyrie has the quickness. So they will use either one in the pick n roll according to whom the wolves have on the court.
Let's go MAVS 🔥🔥🔥🔥 🔥 LUKA is the Real MVP
Tim also said Nuggets would beat the Wolves. Wolves are playing kinda poorly, stars aren't shining, defense is sloppy, refs screwing them a bit end of game and they lose by only 1 point and 3 points! If their defense finds the switch, it's gonna get ugly!
Anthony Edwards is the best suited player on the Wolves roster to guard Luka. However, he's been gassed, struggling to cover Kyrie and carries a heavy offensive burden. McDaniels has the length but is too skinny.
he better be stoppable. hes playing on 1 leg basically. hes clearly significantly hurt on that knee. hes constantly limping and if it was regular season would without a doubt not be playing.
and hes cooking everybody.
Luka is stopable but he knows how to involve.his.team mates big time. Thats separates him.from.the rest.of.the so called.young stars SGA, Edwards they only base their strength on their athletism. Thats why Stephen A and the rest of the clowns like Skip who pick other over rated players over play luka becomes a joke, irrelevant and a bitter clown haters.
I don’t know 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
