Why Donovan Mitchell To The Lakers Makes Sense

like you I can’t stand when NBA Talking Heads assume every available star needs to end up in the League’s biggest and glitziest markets but unless you’re a Lakers fan I’m about to disappoint you because I genuinely believe Donovan Mitchell should end up in the purple and gold [Music] the first step towards making this Hollywood dream a reality is Donovan Mitchell actually hitting the trade market which could happen very soon the Cavs guard has one guaranteed year left on his contract but he’s extension eligible this summer now it’s very possible Mitchell signs that extension to remain in Cleveland but in the event he doesn’t the Cavs would have to start Fielding offers for the five-time allstar they’ll never get equal value back for Mitchell and they won’t get anywhere near the kind of package they themselves traded for him 2 years ago when he was under long-term contract but after parting with low marketing Colin seon oaag baji and control of up to five first round picks for Mitchell Services Cleveland can’t afford to risk losing him for nothing in 2025 free agency Grazy is better than nothing so the question becomes which teams can Cobble together the best trade packages for Mitchell and which teams would actually be willing to do so for a player entering the final year of his contract teams like the Thunder Jazz pelicans and Spurs have the trade Capital to come up with Godfather offers but sheay gilas Alexander’s OKC Squad doesn’t need to make that move Mitchell and Utah literally just broke up a couple years ago and I can’t see New Orleans parting with a bunch of draft picks for what would likely be a one-year Rental San Antonio makes some sense given how terrifyingly good Victor wanyama is already but the Spurs are a prudent organization that won’t Rush this without some Assurance Mitchell would be there for the long Hall chasing Trey young still makes more sense for wem’s team Mitchell and Jaylen Brunson could coexist in New York but the Knicks trade bullets and future cap space would be better utilized on a non-g guard to play with Brunson the heat are always players in Superstar trade talks but without being able to move a pick until at least 2029 they’re not winning this bidding one and a partnership with Mel Bridges in Brooklyn doesn’t really move me if you’ve been wondering what the slang term mid means you’re in the right place the rockets and Magic offer upand cominging young teams and no state income tax but neither can Trump The Lure of La when the Encore fit there is also seamless the Lakers have the salary filling which could include an attractive Young Piece in Austin Reeds and sneakily have the draft Capital required to get a deal done that future draft picture is a little fuzzy until the Pelicans decide whether to take the Lakers 2024 pick or 2025 pick but even in a worst case scenario La can offer their first round round picks outright in 2029 and 2031 plus swap rights in 2026 2028 and 2030 now again trading for Mitchell as an expiring shouldn’t require that kind of draft pick compensation especially if the Lakers are also putting Reeves on the table but the point is they won’t be outgunned among the teams who will seriously pursue spider we’re in it to win it now about that Encore fit Mitchell would provide the Lakers with the type of star guard creation and shooting they’ve never had during the LeBron and AD era sorry DLo the Lakers could keep LeBron happy in the short term and give King James his best chance at a title in a half decade while solidifying the foundation of their future what’s not to like and with all due respect to Cleveland and Salt Lake City after playing in smaller markets his entire career I don’t think Mitchell would be eager to leave Los Angeles as a free agent I’m not counting the Cavs out just yet but if Cleveland doesn’t get Mitchell’s name on the dotted line in July the Lakers seem like an incred inre inly obvious choice to steal yet another star thanks for watching if you like this video and want to see more content like this be sure to hit that subscribe button [Music]

If the Cavs don’t get Donovan Mitchell’s name on the dotted line this summer, the Lakers are starting to feel like an obvious landing spot for the five-time All-Star.

  1. Here we go again….The Lakers don't have the assets, money, or correct roster make-up to compliment Donovan Mitchell. What the Lakers need to do is rebuild instead of continuing to retool the core over and over again with the hamster wheel of mediocrity. This organization needs a full shakedown and rebuilding from ownership to players.

  2. Lakers would do just about anything except surround Lebron with 3&D guys, a coach that is not goofy and someone with sports science background at post doctoral level to keep AD in decent condition

  3. Your analysis makes sense, but Mitchell will almost certainly sign that extension. He's an under-sized point guard approaching 30 with an injury history. If he doesn't sign an extension he might miss an opportunity for one last big payday.

  4. Spida is the LeBron of guards, will be interesting, but I don't trust the Lakers depth.

Probably better for LeBron to go to Cleveland

  5. It seems yahh at the score didn't read the reports of the Cavs owner saying he would never help LeBron win a title in L.A., also the heat have pieces the Cavs are interested in which would make the favorite in a Mitchell trade.

  6. I usually like your takes or can at least justify the logic behind it even when I don't necessarily agree…. but this, this just makes absolutely ZERO sense. No way this will happen.

  7. C'mon man. Didn't expect you guys to advocate for this. Many teams can outbid LA, and they'll be paying LeBron $60 million and AD $50 million. How can they also afford Spida at another $50 mil!

  8. Cmon now bruh. In what reality are the Lakers having the best offer. What indications are suggesting D.Mitch wants to be on the lakers??
