Derrick White: Not Hard for Kristaps Porzingis to Return to Lineup | Celtics Practice

as a team as a team effort of what you were able to accomplish yeah it’s a it’s a big win um obviously not playing um great for the first half was bad so um just sticking together and um just finding a way to get a win with P Derek last year you guys were down 03 came back and won three straight games you know how hard it is to finish the team off what did you learn from that experience last year that you applied this year yeah um games are always the hardest um we don’t expect them to to lay down and and quit but um you just got to you got to be a little bit better you got to execute a little better you got to compete a little bit more and um I mean they’re playing for their season so it’s going to be a definitely definitely going to be a challenge and um I mean any any playoff series anything can change in one game so um it’s going to be a big one you guys talk about the trust that you have in Joe I mean how has that evolved in year 2 and you know him just being a little bit more comfortable and having a little bit more time with you guys this year as opposed to you know last year yeah I I think like anytime you get thrown into the fire like two days before training camp starts or Bay whatever it was um it’s going to be a lot but I mean this year we’ve just been connected um just the communication has been really good and um like you said trust and uh we’ve gone through a lot of these situations and practice and I me he’s talked about it and so we all feel um locked in and connected and so I love playing for Joe and he’s been he’s been great for us he was especially amped after the game you know you can just see it in his expression and what have you how nice is that as as a team when you see something like that for a guy that really drives you guys hard yeah yeah he’s a um fiery um excited and I mean this is a guy that you like to play for so um um he’s competing just like we’re competing and um we love going to war with him Derek you guys had 12 blocks I think you I three four five I mean but what’s the art of blocking shots especially against bigger guys you just seem to master that I’m I’m not sure um try to be in the right place at the right time and um timeing it up right um but yeah I think just anytime we can make it it difficult for them I mean obviously today we’re uh playing downhill a lot and um in the pain a lot so um just trying to show a crowd and uh try to make it as difficult as possible for them so last night like you know when they’re as hot as they were early trying to figure it out defensively obviously you went to some different looks to try to do that but how much of it is just kind of staying solid and how much of it is adjusting to you know a team that gets that hot that early yeah um I think just kind of just goes go back down to individual defense um that’s just the start of it um we just letting them get into the paint and drawing and kicking and getting in the paint again like it’s it’s hard to guard teams like that so um started with that and then um I mean got a lot of different things we can do a lot of different matchups and um players we can kind of just mix things up as the game go on so um using all those things to to like come together and try to just make it difficult for them to slow them down captain the last last play where they had like that football kind of alignment uh n Smith gets wide opening you and JB have a a conversation is that like a little bit of a like kind of how how what decision- making like what was that what was that conversation it looked like you guys were a little upset at the look that you gave up yeah obviously you don’t want to give them a wide open three like that and so we just discussing like what happened and um we got to be better we can’t just give up a wide open look like that so um we were just having conversation a nice conversation about it what what should have happened is that I mean that was like a chaotic type of play yeah that was a a good play something I never seen before um but probably should have been a switch and so um we’re going to watch film here soon and we got to be better about it what was like to watch Drew holiday the final minute Duty both ends on the floor he’s unreal um I mean obviously the the am one was huge um and then just to come back and get that seal when we needed most and um even just make those two big free throws to us so like um whenever you need Drew he’s just going to be there and he’s going to do whatever whatever it takes to help us win and the fact that he was sick and and skill did that that’s pretty impressive yeah yeah I know uh it wasn’t feeling great but um battled for us and um he’s a hell of a teammate how different does it feel being up 3 0 as opposed to last year it’s a me your back’s not against the wall um I guess technically well it is but uh um that was awesome well played well done well done um but I mean just uh yeah it’s just it’s a way different feeling obviously but you just understand that anything can change after one game so you can’t get too satisfied you can’t be you can’t relax basically what I’m trying to say what’s the we see we see O’Shea being one of the most enthusiastic players on the bench kind of all the time he gives us glimpses into his personality on his vog what is it like to have him as a teammate just as far as his energy and kind of how engaged he is yeah he’s a always energetic always the first one standing up the first one cheering on the bench um whether he’s getting minuted or not like that never changes and um he just comes in he he does what he needs to do and um he’s just a great teammate great person off the court someone that you like to hang around with and uh be around so um even when he doesn’t play like he does so much with his team what’s the process going to be like whenever it happens of you know integrating christops again and getting him involved and at this stage of the playoffs especially where the intensity is so high and you know the stakes are so high yeah he’s just going to come in and do what what he does um I think we’ve we’ve had uh a lot of time with him on the court so um I don’t think it’ll be that big of an adjustment um for when he comes back and he’s just going to come and just bring that extra layer that um we don’t have without him so um we’re all looking forward to it but um when he comes back we’re going to be ready to go all question for Derek how much you looking forward to everything that Monday brings the chance to go back to the NBA finals chance to finish off a team show that Killer Instinct yeah one game from the finals I mean that’s what you want um that’s what you talk about and training camp and um you just can’t take take it for granted and um kind of take your foot off the gas so um like I said it’s going to be the toughest game in the series most likely and um we got to be ready to go we got to be able to withstand the runs and um just continue to to execute and compete at a high level thank you D thanks

  1. Seems porzingis will be back probably by the finals i doubt he comes back this series. I hope he isn’t rusty in that first game back

  2. Derrick White won’t have a big game offensively every night but he makes sure that he makes an impact & makes his presence known defensively☘️☘️☘️

  3. they're always comparing Joe season 1 and 2, but besides the summer to develop not only did Joe move from assistant to head, one of the assistants got a head-coaching job.
next year Charles Lee is gone, and Sam Cassell is a candidate for the LA Losers head coach.

  4. That Darth Vader cameo at the end made this interview get really intense all of a sudden. HEAVY BREATHING 😆 ❤☘🏀
