Pick up Tim Hardaway Jr this offseason?

Mavericks fan here. Right now, Derrick Jones Jr is beyond exceeding his vet min contract and has become integral to our roster. The only way we can sign him to a fair contract this offseason is by shipping away salary.

That being said, how would y'all feel about trading a couple 2nds for THJ? He's the most confident volume 3pt shooter in the league and on an expiring deal. In 5 seasons as a Mav, Tim has shot 37.3% from 3 on 7.5 attempts per game.

I'll be honest, Tim has easily been our most love/hate player during the Luka era. He's streaky and can give you hair tearing stinkers, but he can also give you 7/9 from 3 and FAST. I was not exaggerating his confidence. Tim embodies the "shooters shoot" mentality. His defense is about as neutral as it gets, but he stands his ground. He also has a short drive mid-range pull up in his bag that he hits at a decent clip.

I also threw in Dwight Powell to give us a little more flexibility. He has been Luka's starting center for most of Luka's career, but he is no longer a starting level player. Dwight is smart (Stanford alumni), an elite screen setter, high energy and a pro's pro. He's one of the best vets you can ask for in your locker room. Past injuries have sapped some of his athleticism, but he's still a viable spot minutes guy on a cheap salary. I'm certain that Coach Mosley would love to be reunited with him.

So two 2nds for an expiring C&S 3PT specialist and a great locker room vet?

Would are your thoughts on this proposal?

I would personally say no because it would take up most of our cap space. I think trying to sign a Malik monk, tyus jones, or KCP is a better use of the cap space we have then getting those players.

We probably need someone to, as Paolo put it, “set the table” as well as just shoot threes. I don’t see us filling in the space on the roster with a pure microwave shooter, even one who’s a lot closer to average from three than Cole Anthony is.

Hell no. He sucks big time. Cant play D, cant create his own shot, cant do hardly anything.

  4. Tim Hardaway Jr is one of the worst players in the NBA, I’m not even considering this.

  5. Avoid at all costs. I watch the Mavs a lot and those two are among the most frustrating players in the league. THJ is an inefficient chucker who thinks he has superstar privileges. Powell is the worst center/big man in the league: trex arms, can’t rebound, bad screener (used to be his only plus), has no paint presence and will end up injuring his own teammates a couple times a season.

Any Magic fan with any age to them does not like the name Tim Hardaway.

And this would be a great way for him to keep screwing us.

I say no on this one.

Damn I’m getting cooked rn 😮‍💨. Would y’all be more open to this if THE MAVS gave up a 2nd round pick instead?
