you found yourself on another episode of Locked on bulls Mates billis is an interesting prospect that have offers High upside while so offering some skills that can translate to the NBA right away should the Bulls draft him if he falls to the Bulls at number 11 we’re going talk a little bit about that let’s going to talk about a trade idea surrounding Brandon Ingram possibly coming to the Chicago Bulls and a Nicola vich to the Memphis Grizzly trade we’re get into all that and more on today’s locked on bulls [Music] you are locked on bulls your daily Chicago Bulls podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day what’s going on bulls fans welcome to another episode of Locked on bulls member of the locked on podcast Network where it’s your team every single day I’m Hayes host and creator of Chicago Bull Central Chicago Bear Central YouTube pages and podcast um and pat9 today I swear at some point I swear at some point this offseason you’ll get both me and Pat the designer on the same episode but uh we do want to welcome you guys to another episode of Locked on bulls man we are free and available on every podcasting app and platform of your choice as well as YouTube and let’s go ahead and jump right into it today you guys know we’ve been in our draft coverage here at the Chicago Bulls and uh or locked on bulls I should I should say and you know we kind of we talked about you know a player that could fall to the Chicago Bulls that has tremendous upside into Jean Salon we’re going to talk another one who has that kind of that similar type High upside but also could contribute now but you know is a player that could fall to the Chicago Bulls that if he does the wols will be uh presented with an interesting option that’s uh Mattis abilis I believe is how you pronounce his name uh out there this is a guy who’s measured at basically 69 with a 610 Wings spin he’s only 197 pound so far one of the younger players in this draft at 19 he’ll be 20 years old before the NBA season does start but this is an interesting option for the Bulls as he kind of offers kind of that more modern stpe uh small forward SL power forward game really can really slay in at either position depending on what else you do on your roster this is a guy who is an extremely versatile uh player already’s able to space the floor which the Bulls do need has a great feel for the game has enough of you know the float game and type of of finishing around the rim to to be able to penetrating things now but the guy is just extremely versatile weapon now we’ve said that about some other uh players that the Bulls have gone after before but he does offer that he has a great feel for the game on top of all of that and while not this like huge playmaker he does have upside of being maybe a more point forward type player for you if you round out that point that part of his game as well um tremendous upside as as a shooter as well solid step backs and things like that can hit mid-range shots can hit the three um and you know this is a guy who who offers kind of enough feel around the game right and that’s something that you want to look for as well really soft touch when he does get to the rim on top of all those other things and is a player that does communicate on both the offense and defensive side as well which is something that the Bulls do need he he moves without the ball he cuts to the rim when he can as well and he can he can be a player that can Thrive off dribble handoffs as well and either handing off the ball or uh being somebody who can drive off dribble handoffs as well one of these players who just in transition offers a lot of creativity both finishing he runs hard uh in in on the floor as well he uh on Kick Out passes he can hit the three he doesn’t hesitate with that and that’s where his ball handing that he has that I like I said wouldn’t necessarily call him a a huge playmaker at this level but is someone who can if he gets the defensive rebound can take it Coast to Coast on you and dish it out to your other players if they’re floating out there on the perimeter solid enough defensive fundamentals as well to where you’re he’s not by any stretch of the imagination a lock down on ball defender on ball defense is something that he does definitely still needs to grow in this game but the off ball defense is solid enough to where there’s some reason to believe that he can he has tremendous uh room to to develop there already uses his long arms on weak side defense to get the chase down blocks and things like that and while I wouldn’t necessarily call him a rim protector yet he is somebody that is probably going to get some highlight real dunks for you uh early in his career as well um um and those blocks that he’s going to get for you as well is going to be something that that you really look at now the thing is I said that he has that float game he has the ability to be a kickout player take players off the dribble hit the three-point shot as well um you know he’s been kind of stricky over over the course of his career again even with the g-league ignite last year kind of showed some shakiness in that but again the mechanics on that three are solid enough the release is high enough as well especially with his long arms that he that he’s going to create some separation on that as well shot below 30% from three-point range in the g-league ignite but again 43.3% from threes in high school so depends on how you kind of take a look at that now when I also mention that he’s not I wouldn’t call him a point forward Prospect quite yet that is because he does have a negative assist to turnover ratio as of right now but again he’s a younger player still kind of learning his field for the game as well and he’s flashed some upsides as a um as a pass it away where like I said you you can probably see that developing for him as a point for but he’s not quite all the way there yet as well when you look at this uh stats last year with the g-league Knight he averaged 32 minutes per game averaged 14.3 points per game over that time on 44% shooting overall from the field like I said the three-point shooting you took three and a half per game 27% on that 27 and a half% so take that for what you will also a 67.9% free throw shooter which is some room for concern there as well well but 6.9 rebounds two assists per game 2.1 turnovers per game that’s that negative assist to turnover ratio that I mentioned but 2.1 blocks per game like I said and I still wouldn’t necessarily call him a rim protector the way that he gets his blocks all in those weak that weak side chase down blocks but again you say that for what you will you take 2.1 blocks per game if you can get it especially for a team like the Chicago Bulls who have been thrived are deprived of having somebody who can who can end up like that I would not be surprised if bucillis ended up one of the better players in this draft he could round out to a um to a uh an All-Star level player perennial Allstar um as well super amount of versatilities think of like a a sore uh Thompson as well somebody like that who has positional versatility that he could bring to that in defending them and in playing multiple positions for you at the NBA level and this would be the type of pick that to me is is really big upside you’re really looking at the upside play on a pick like this this is a guy who can fit really on almost any type of roster construction which adds some versatility to you but the thing that the Bulls would have to look at right is that the position of need which is Center and we talked about that a lot right and maybe some of that is power forward do you trust his ability to round out to be a power forward more than like a Patrick Williams or Julian Phillips and that’s the one thing about the Bulls potentially going more of a forward WI combo player here uh in this draft is that we’ve drafted a lot of guys who already kind of aim to maybe be that when they’re at their best right Julian Phillips is a player that can play the three or the four Patrick Williams is a player that’s played the four primarily with his time with the bulls a lot of bulls fans still want to see him go to the three you guys know how I feel about that I think Patrick Williams could be fine at the four and I don’t care what position you put him at mentality is still an issue there as well that’s the first thing that needs to be unlocked with Patrick Williams but again where the are right now is that they they need the mo the best talent available right so going somebody who could walk away as one of the better players in the draft that’s why I had the mindset I that I do want a player like dejon Saloon right is that it’ be hard pressed now the thing with this draft is it’s where you your own personal uh kind of rating of these ranking of these players are and he’s somebody who in some mock has gone has gone as early like I think in the most recent bleach report maybe had him going second or third and then some have him going as low as like 12th right so he’s somebody that could be there theoretically for the Bulls and if he’s there I do think it’s something that they have to ask themselves okay is this the high upside pick that we want to go and do we maybe do something different uh to at the center position right do we move or hope that we get an additional pick back from like a Zack LaVine and a low 18 pick like from from the the uh Orlando Magic in a case like that do you do you have something else in your pocket to where you can still maybe go after and get a center but the best player available is something that the Bulls absolutely have to look at in this in this uh in this uh offseason in this draft overall I should say they have to look at that and if they don’t you know they have to make sure that they get it right other than that and that could be something that the Bulls are looking at as well in that so you know like I said I like I like Mattis busis a lot I like his skill set I like his ceiling uh which is the things stick out to him and somebody who can come in and can contribute now right and that’s something that I think more than getting a finished product or as close to a finished product you want to make sure that they have something they can contribute for you right away the Bulls in their High upside picks have gone extremely raw players that you don’t really know how they fit in yet billis can fit in right away with being a passer and uh can be somebody who can get out in transition uh the shooting that he does offer in the mid-range even out to three-point range as well those are some things you look at that yeah he needs to round out but they could he he could contribute those things right away for the Bulls and that’s what the Bulls have to look at but overall uh a prospect that I like don’t necessarily love right but uh there’s no real absolute love prospects in this draft like it can kind of all fluctuate and with a lot of the more Center prospects in this draft going later May the Bulls may go upside at number 11 but nely know what you guys think Down Below on billis um and his Prospect to coming to the Chicago Bulls next up we’re going to going to be talking about a v to the Memphis Grizzlies trade this one comes from Bleacher Report but before we get into that I got to talk to you guys about one of her sponsors and that is eBay Motors passion drive and patience the formula for winning championships is customers all right Bulls fans I want to thank you guys for tuning in again to another episode of lock on bulls you guys already know free and available uh five days a week Monday through Friday um on every podcasting app and platform of your choice but with that said let’s get into this trade idea from Bleach report and bleach report is actually you know you guys know how how we feel about bleach report here at locked on bulls it can be real Hit or Miss sometimes with Bleacher Reports articles but this is one that I don’t necessarily hate not necessarily saying I love it either but I do think this is kind of a realistic deal depending on what the Bulls do in free agency here at the draft now this has the Chicago Bulls sending Nicola vich to the Memphis Grizzlies for Luke Canard and Z Williams now I’ll talk about the pieces coming back to the Chicago Bulls here in a second before we talk about that though I want to talk about why the Memphis Grizzlies could be interested in Nicola vich and it could be for one reason uh Stephen Adams is gone right this is a player that has played the five for them um jiren Jackson Jr is a player that I think has now kind of showed that he wants to play the four more than the five I think his defensive aggressiveness and everything comes out a little bit more when he’s playing the four rather than the five he we know he can block shots we know that he can do that he can lead the league and block shots as well he can stretch the ball hit some three-pointers um also and so that’s why the Bulls I mean the the Grizzlies may be interested in bringing in Nicola vich yeah doesn’t have the defense like a Stephen Adams had for that Memphis Grizzlies team but with having Jared uh Jackson Jr there um and having a kind of starting five then at that point with two bigs who could theoretically stretch the floor and you look at vot even you know over a Down Season um 35.9% from threes over the last three seasons prior to this one so it could be something that you know they look at especially with having John Mor there the gravity that he has how he opens Lanes with his driving and and it depends on how important the Grizzlies way getting an actual five in there to move JJJ back to the four you also look at the fact that they have uh you know players that are on the rise like a Vince Williams Jr a GG Jackson and so could uh have a younger player like Z Williams kind of more out on the outskirts for there and that’s where this trade starts at Z Williams 22 years old 69 185 lbs a player that I wouldn’t mind the Bulls taking a fly on has two years left on his contract uh and that’s a rookie scale contract so only over a little over $4 million there um that the Bulls could look at as almost getting another guy who was just a top 10 pick two years ago or three years ago at this point right so it’s something that that I would not be M mad at the Bulls looking for young talent that maybe they can still get some things out of give them an opportunity to grow see how he plays for this team and last year the averages for Z in the minutes and opportunities that he was given aren’t terrible 20 minutes that he played last year 51 games played averaged 8.2 points per game on 39% shooting 3 30.7% from three-point range taking 3.7 three-pointers per game three and a half rebounds one and a half assists right under Ste per game as well he’s a player that still has some upside but again if he doesn’t work out for the Bulls there’s not necessary like you’re you’re get you’re gaining an uh some additional salary cap relief as early as next season which the Bulls could then use to kind of add in some flexibility and then Luke Canard 27 years old still not a super old player either but he does he’s on an expiring contract this is the last next season will be the last season on his contract 65 206 pounds he a guy who averaged 11 points per game for the Memphis Grizzlies last year only playing 39 games so of course that’s a little bit of a concern the thing that Luke Canard would bring to the Chicago Bulls team is damn near Elite three three point shot making when you look at the at uh his career 4 and a half three-pointers per game hitting that at a 43.9 basically a 44% clip we talked about Buddy Hill not too long ago right and how buddy Hill brings in that volume three-point shooting at a high percentage Luke Canard is somebody who theoretically could bring that as well last season taking six three-pointers per game and hitting that at a 45% clip as well uh in his year in his uh time in the NBA which he’s been there since 20178 he’s only had two seasons shooting below 40% from three and that was his second year in the league he’s shooting 39.4% and his third year in the league shooting 39.9% so both those Seasons close enough to 40% as well Canard could bring the three-point shooting that the Bulls do need while also not attaching themselves uh to the money that’s as long as V they can get off that money at for a little over $14 million as soon at the as the the end of this upcoming season so that offers that’s basically getting back uh a year off off Nicola vvc’s contract so that’s how the Bulls could look at that is getting that back on their on their books to maybe take a move in free agency uh you know mid-level exceptions things like that the Bulls could use so that is how I view that and it comes down in a trade like this to me a couple of things would have to happen the Bulls would have to know that they’re going Center in this draft and by going Center in this draft you’re either confident in that guy’s ability to start right away or because you have freed up now some money potentially maybe you’re looking then to bring back Andre Drummond uh to this team to maybe be the starter and give your new drafted Center a year to kind of acclimate before you’re throwing them right out there and expecting them to start that’s kind of the things that you’re looking at for in my opinion if the a trade like this were to go down um not necessarily saying that the Grizzlies would 100% be in on a potential move like this but it is something that is is realistic now just because it’s realistic doesn’t also mean that it’s probable but it is a realistic option for the Chicago Bulls if they were to try to move on from Nicola vvi and get some players back that can contribute you’re filling out your bench there as well and then maybe you’re taking a shot of trying to bring Andre German back at a more respectable price than what he’s going to get on the free agent Market or you’re rolling the DIYs and saying all right bet we’re drafting a center that guy’s going to start right away um you know at that point the youth movement is kind of even more jumpstarted um and maybe you’re looking at and saying hey we’re going to give these young guys a chance if they if they swim great we know exactly what we have in them if they sink cool we we probably going to keep our our top 10 protected pick in 2025 which is a really deep draft probably the deepest draft we’re going to have in the next two or three years so that’s what the Bulls will be looking at that’s kind of the motivation for both sides in this and The Grizzlies getting a center taking two players that you know may not be as big of a part of their future as they once were with some of the players that they have rising up there and um yeah and you know you’re getting a center for the Memphis Grizzlies the Bulls are getting off a contract that while I said like V isn’t this super bad contract yet either you know you know would like to be levelheaded here yeah V was bad last season and that’s not anything that uh you know make a conversation for otherwise but I think that the conversation on how bad he he was is kind of switched over to the left and kind of gone in a place to where it wasn’t as bad as some people are making them out to be but if you are able to move on from him while getting younger uh getting some picks in here getting some some some some cap relief sooner than what you would if you keep them those could be things that could motivate the Chicago Bulls to go ahead and make a move and pull the trigger on a Nicola vich move an offseason where uh you know AK is already he said that he realizes things aren’t quite working here and that change is needed for the Chicago Bulls so if that change is brought about by moving on from an Nick lausevic you know you kind of got to look at that and say hey let’s roll the dice and see what we got but let me know what you guys think Down Below on that trade idea again that one comes from Bleacher Report it’s not necessarily it’s not a terrible trade idea like I said I’ve seen much much worse consistently probably seen a lot worse trade ideas come from a Bleacher Report than that but uh you know let me know what you guys think on all of that down below but next up we’re going to be talking about another trade idea this one comes from Grant Hughes uh in regards to Brandon Ingram and the Bulls taking a shot there uh and we’re going to go ahead and get into that uh so Bulls fans man thank you guys again once again you know Lockton Bulls is here uh five days a week make sure you guys are also checking out uh the the NBA draft show with lock on bulls man if you guys want some more of this in-depth analysis uh you know Big Board is is a great show to check out see what they bring every single time uh that draft conversation and Analysis as well but uh let’s go ahead and get into this trade idea guys so this one comes from Grant Hughes who does right for police report as well as some other outlets as well and that is the Bulls potentially getting involved in a Brandon Ingram trade now Brandon Ingram is an interesting prospect that the Pelicans could make available out there um this this offseason um and the Bulls you know could theoretically kind try to go after him and use Zack LaVine now that is what Grant uh Hughes has in here is that is that a trade idea to sending Zack LaVine to the uh new New Orleans Pelicans interchange for Brandon Ingram and if you guys have been watching this show for quite a while uh watching locked on bulls even watching Chicago Bulls Central you guys will know that I am a Brandon Ingram guy I like Brandon Ingram a whole hell of a lot I think what he brings as far as ball handling uh scoring wise and things like that are all things that the Bulls really could absolutely use um here uh in Chicago and so that ideal is something I think that is a is a little bit enticing now would the Bulls put together the best offer for Brandon Ingram I doubt that I think of the Pelicans do make Brandon Ingram available at $36 million he does make less than Zack LaVine which is crazy to say when you look at the production that Brandon Ingram has have had over his career but if the if the Pelicans were interested they looked at Zack LaVine and they looked at his scoring that he brings and thinks about pairing that next to Z Zion William Williamson and things like that and if you can get them to bite on that without giving up future draft capital I listen if you got to include Patrick Williams in a deal like that I’m personally not necessarily mad at that Brandon Ingram somebody who’s been playing small I mean a shooting guard for the CH for the uh Pelicans here in some lineups when you look at what that team’s been bringing out there with him at the shooting guard and Herb Jones at the small forward Zion at at the at the four and then uh uh Jonas valent chunis at the five you know you move Brandon Ingram to kind of a position that makes a little bit more sense for him he he averaged over 20 points per game last season five rebounds five assists on 49% shooting and oh by the way uh 3.8 three-pointers per game hitting that at a 35% clip not great but is somebody that you have to respect out there at the three-point line um he’s a career 36% three-point shooter taking 3.7 for of those over the course of his NBA career uh but the thing with Brandon Ingram is that you know what he is right and he has one year left on this deal so that theoretically the Chicago Bulls in getting uh trading for Brandon Ingram you’re getting a guy who yeah is making $36 million but he’s a free agent in 2025 26 so if it does not work with Kobe with Io if it does not work and you have to move on from him you’re at that point getting tremendous savings with Zack LaVine having three years left on his deal so you’re getting three years potentially worth of savings if Brandon Ingram even if you let him walk for nothing if he does end up working out for you then you resign him here you can offer him more money you had you would have his bird rights at that point in time and he could be somebody that the Bulls could take an interest in and liking to right um so still only 26 years old be 27 uh in September so you got to look at that but like still young enough as well to where you know you’re kind of resetting your clock in a lot of ways as far as with the contract with the player things like that now you do have to worry about okay let’s say that it does work out how much do we have to pay him then right and that’s where the Bulls could end up right back in a in a similar situation to Zack LaVine but is that a risk that you take and that’s where it comes down to again I know that you know Bulls fans have these trade ideas and these trade hopes and these this and that but you got to try to make some chances especially or take some chances when you’re trying change the makeup of your team when you’re trying to bring in new Talent when you’re trying to change the course of your team some of that comes with some risk and that risk in that case would be somebody that you’ve already seen has has fit in in in a in a position that maybe isn’t the best situation for him as far as playing some shooting guard right but is a player that it can adapt to what you need him to do and has some ball handling and playmaking opportunities as well is a player that’s dealt with adversity over his career like that I think this is one of those Pie in the Sky ideas where a writer kind of writes an article based off uh two teams having players that they could be looking to move to kind of break up and change their roster some uh the Pelicans still are a team that’s also could be motivated by the financial aspect of it as well as they keep trying to avoid that second tax apron uh which they’re going to have a little bit of space they have $24 million uh beneath the luxury tax this season uh but it gets closer and closer to that um and they got to start making decisions there so as more teams maybe look to avoid that second tax apron the Bulls could be in a position to take advantage of that now I’m not saying that this uh is something that you can bet on I’m not saying go and bet your money on Brandon Ingram being a Chicago Bull but the Bulls in moving Zack LaVine are going to be trying to look for all options and an expiring player that has tremendous upside that maybe if you have to attach a Patrick Williams to which would be a little difficult right with him being also restricted free agent but maybe maybe that is something that the Bulls decide to look into well we’ll see let me know what you guys think on that trade idea down below that’s my time for the day guys man make sure you guys are following lockon Bulls at lockon Bulls you can also follow P the designer at Pat the I would love it if matas fell to us i just don’t see him being available past 5
Matas Buzelis sounds pretty good to me all way around and ya pull that trigger all day Ingram for Zach yes all day even though I'd rather have Zion 😅out of the 2
Yes and couple years younger then Zach run that
Demar would be a SG in that situation and Ingram at SF Coby at PG probably
I would love to see a BI trade to the Bulls, as Haize stated, he is younger and the bulls could potentially get away from the contract next year if it doesn't work out. Also if it doesn't work, the Bulls keep their pick and can reset the franchise trajectory.
