recently the alien sneakers I have a pair right now we’re going to be looking at those in a little bit detail if you haven’t got yours yet this is what you can expect once he gets to your mailbox or your front steps of your door there also we’re going to bring our guest Ken 5’s very own my colleague as well Casey Vieira he’ll be joining us on the other side in just a few minutes discussing whether or not wmy is ready to be the best of the best in the NBA as of next season just a sophomore year discussing that and locked on Spurs fan comments as well heads up with with Casey y’all know he lives a danad life so unfortunately could to do audio so and we we caught him at the weirdest time he was doing errings for his family so uh heads up now it’ll be an audio segment but have you gotten your wimy kicks yet I got mine recently been waiting to do a quick wimy sneaker review and if you haven’t gotten it well this is your sneak peek at what you’re going to get once it hits your mailbox so without further Ado let’s go look at the wimy sneakers I got them right here so first of all the Box the Box comes in uh this I know some of yall like the boxes there has a little uh logo I I help me out with this everybody I don’t know what this is so and just a basic standard box nothing special here nothing there just nothing much so that’s what you expect once you get in the box but let’s look at the sneaker itself and this is it this is what you would get and what you’d expect once you get your wmy sneakers now Qui quick review of IT first of all it’s very very shiny the Nike Swoosh is very shiny and I was I was wondering if it was a metal and it’s just a very shiny plastic that’s all it is as you can see yall know by now it’s in that apple green Galactic look uh interesting the the laces they come speckled uh with a little those green apple colors there just a heads up they do not give you another pair of laces so at least in my box I don’t know maybe your maybe mine was a misprint but the point is I did not see any alternative laces these are the laces you get I know other companies they uh put extra laces on there I think Adidas or Anthony Edwards they throw an extra laces in there this is what you see this is what you get once you get your Wim sneakers uh as y’all know by now it has the Nike logo on the tongue there and um there is the alien right there also in the same material as the metal plastic piece there let me tell you the colors pop they really do they do come in that look signature my this says uh let’s see here it says uh every day but you know the other the sneaker says be unique every day so yes it does come in that thing there I believe it may glow in the dark this this gives like the uh impression the soul here that it may glow in the dark here toe box simple the G G hustle same thing basically if you own a pair of GT hustles already that’s basically what you’re getting just in the wimy look um let’s see what else inside here let take this alien is in there yep as you can tell just a black uh padding there and with the alien look there see what else we got here and it is a midtop so there you go overall I like it you know it’s it’s it’s definitely different you know the color you know I’m pretty sure there’ll be new colorways as the season progresses or as wy’s career progresses but this is his first sneaker there I know a lot of you SPS fans already got yours uh y’all are just loving it being part of it it took a while for me to get mine it did take a while had to wait for quite some time before I got it I was able to just get lucky and I went to a website and they just happen to have them there not name the name website I don’t want to get free free promotion but just one of those things like yeah you know what the hell let me go check it out maybe it might be some leftovers there sure enough there were a left over there so I got super lucky I didn’t get him on the first initial drop like a day or two later where I went back to this website and I saw it I said H let me take a shot in the dark and sure enough there it was but there they are you know pretty much it you know I mean they’re going definitely for the alien look the green the Spacey look and there it is I look I’m tell you this much if you have them you you’re probably enjoying them if you haven’t gotten them yet you just wait till you open it up get that fresh car smell that fresh new car smell some new sneaker smell it awesome here interesting too uh there is again they try to go over that shiny thing you see there right there that’s on there as well but overall it’s good toebox feels strong very strong very strong toebox there you know so you got to put some really Force to bend it in when you break that but overall good stuff good stuff I know a lot of sprays fans are loving their sneakers hey did you get some I want to know but overall I’m going to give this a solid a solid a can’t wait to see living in New York City now um slow reaction rates like the reaction times are slow like it’s green and they don’t go they’re just like oh okay I guess I’ll hit the accelerator now you know I’ll get the road Tech yeah yeah I I remember driving through Manhattan one time when I was moving from apartment in Queens to an apartment in Manhattan uh terrified though I was terrified yeah yeah sounds right sounds right all all right well one thing that’s not terrifying is the potential of Victor Wim bayama that is why Casey is here uh in case y’all Miss that Dame Lillard yes Dame dollar himself spoke to a Milwaukee saying that Victor Wim bayama will be the best of the best in the NBA not two years from now not three years from now in his sophomore season second year are you buying or selling that Casey I am selling only because right now we are in an age where the best player in the league is a very subjective title because you could talk to anybody right now and they will probably tell you something along the line of yic of donic of yanis go and beid when he’s healthy I think we’re in a window right now where that title is way too open and way too subjective it’s not like what it was six seven years ago where LeBron noon intended was the Undisputed king of that not not anymore we’re not in an age of of anything like that but but I do think there’s a chance that Victor can enter that conversation I mean I know we’ve said on here before and I think Wy is gonna by the end of the next season undoubtedly gonna secure himself a top 15 player in this league and the difference between 15 to seven is not an insane incremental junp so while I don’t think that he will be the Undisputed defined best player in the league next season at the end of next season I could entirely see a world where that’s the conversation because right now that that that again that that seat is too fluid it’s very fluid right now so definitely I agree to some extent yeah specifically what lard said was quote I think by next season people are going to be talking about wiama as being the best player in the league that’s what he said to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel uh you know I’m also going to sell too and I’m not trying to Discount what uh Dean dollar has to say you know you know I I look hey appreciate the kind words Dean I’m pretty sure all the Spurs fans do as well but if you look at who’s in the league right now Anthony Edwards you know you mentioned Joel and B Joker is still Joker uh we’re forgetting John Morant will be back next season you know he’s going to be coming with a vengeance uh and also too and I think the biggest thing too teams are now going to be more prepared to handle them does that make sense and I think they’re gonna really like even though the target was big on his rookie season it’s gonna be twice as big in his sophomore season wouldn’t be surprised if they get more physical with Victor and he’s not an enigma anymore the book is out out on the book is out on him and I think as I think he’s probably going to find a more challenging sof more season he’ll bust through it I think he will he’ll adapt as he showed last year but like the bigger question for me Casey is maybe what could hold him back is the roster how do you what do you how do you factor the roster in in him becoming the best of the best in the NBA I think that’s a big part of it because I think that’s a big part of of why he was held back in some respects this year his accolades I think that’s the big reason he’s not the defensive player of the year right now is the fact that Minnesota was the number the top three team in the Western Conference and the Spurs were a bottom three bottom four team in the league and again that’s a byproduct of the the win loss record I felt multiple times that that should the Spurs have even been 500 if if that winning record of course but if they would have been even 500 I think that award would have been Victor’s no doubt nobody likes to really say it but they put voters excuse me voters put a lot more stock than they’d like to admit in the fact that they value that team defense win lost record so the playoff your point I think that plays a big time part in it big the the the win loss in that respect at least from at least from the the recognition of accolade so to speak and if we’re talking about an Accolade like we are not really an Accolade an unofficial Accolade yeah because some of those guys that you’re in the conversation with they’re not in all likelihood first are not going to be better than the Nuggets next year they’re not going to be better than the Bucks next year not be better than the Timberwolves and so what’s going to be a decisive maybe not decisive but a hair to be split to help back an argument it’ll be oh well Wimpy’s team that’s 30 wins Anthony Edwards the team has 50 plus wins you’re telling me wy’s value has that big of impact on winning oh no I I can’t put him as the best player in the league yet and there’s gonna be a lot of that and if we’re being honest that kind of is a fair criticism to a certain extent but that is a fair criticism because at the end of the day what’s this all about wins and losses it is when when be stat if he’s putting up what he did even more so next year plus the team is a 30- win team how can we turn around and say that what he’s doing is impacting winning is it really impacting winning or team just that bad is Wy adding 10 wins to what’s a 20 win roster yeah yeah same thing this year was was Wy adding 10 years to what was a team that wasn’t going to win 15 games honest at times you can make the case yeah he definitely was yeah um you look you look at the foundation that uh wiby has bringing into his sophomore season it’s not a bad Foundation 21.4 points per game 10.6 rebounds 3.6 uh blocks per game led the league uh the list goes on and on first player to average 20 points 10 rebounds three blocks and fewer than 30 minutes per game I mean Rookie of the Year award multiple the month Awards all rookie team he has a good foundation but we saw as you brought up Casey uh he can have phenomenal nights we saw that you know near quad doubles triple doubles you know 30 plus points 10 plus block I mean the list goes on and on but they that still wasn’t enough and that’s just a reflection of what the league is today Casey is that the Spurs need a running mate for him they need that star pairing with them do you think the Spurs will do do with ASAP or stick with the whole we’re not going to rush the process Casey I come more and more of the belief that this is what we got this is what we’re looking at not encourage how can and and how can you not I know something that we talked about a few weeks ago and maybe you kind of let time play but how can you kind of not feel that way and everything kind of indicate from what we from what we’ve seen from the team in front of us comparatively speaking to what we’ve seen behind the scenes which as we know is just about nothing and we’re going off reports that are not entirely the most Concrete in the world it’s hard to believe that that star is on its way I I I just don’t see right now how how I mean I let me rephrase that I could see a world where they have the assets to make it happen because they do they have plenty to make something like that happen but whether they do it just doesn’t feel that way seems like a bunch right now and we just kind of keep going back to that and here press conference where they all just seem very much at the same page with the end go of what’s coming forward there was not a whole lot of hypothetical of yeah we’ll see you know we’ll see if a I don’t want to say as bluntly as if I’m here but there was not a lot of skepticism left about the future maybe the best way to to put it as it pertain division with this roster and as a result the way I look at it is is probably valid but also here’s the other things the way things have kind of played out how many of those guys are out there right now legitimately available to be considered the running that the Spurs would jump in and make that offer know Tre young won they’re not gonna empty the tank for Donovan for Donovan Mitchell just because of that contract situation going into a contract year yeah and he’s got as much as we say we want him to sign an extension first he’s not gonna sign an extension yeah he’s just not going into his contract here he’s not I mean you got other names like reports out there Darius Garland Deonte Murray um yeah uh you know this and here’s the thing Casey is that the Spurs they have we talk about the assets right now not only do they have what they have currently at this time of this show lockdown Spurs they they’re gonna have perhaps even more in next year’s draft you they’re probably going to get another good draft spot next year and what a draft that’s supposed to be you know all that and more so to me when does the dam break Casey when does the dam break and the the Spurs brass Brian W say you know what okay we gotta start burning some of this stuff because this is getting out of control let’s go and bring in these Power Players now to pair with Wendy it just seems like are we going go to the 2024 NBA draft lottery I was the draft itself excuse me Casey and Spurs at 4 and eight and they just pick accordingly and move on by I mean this what it feels like they were going to do all over again Casey I I think that I think right now I that is what they are going to do maybe they make a move in the off seon maybe they they find somebody to pair better with Victor from a a role player standpoint all signs point to Kellin being the odd man out in this in this equation with all this but that’s not an earth shattering move right I I don’t I don’t see how right now why they’re going to change what they have based off the perception of what we seen for them for a very very much an extended period of time when it comes to this time when it comes to this time of year but even the names that you that you rattled off after Tryon deante Darius Garland are those guys two names that you associate as while good while good players as the true number two running mates on a title Contender h [Music] you know what of those of those the only one that intrigues me is Garland because he’s been playing in the shadows of Mitchell and then for certain there’s bring Colin ston but you know will he finally get that change of address to be that all that and more I think the Spurs could represent that what do you what do you think that’s more to me that’s more of the conversation and if if if I’m going with for this if I have to trade big I think I’m probably trading a little bit I’m biting a little bit more on the Garland thing because I like the idea of that potential Darius Garland has played in bigger basketball games and pivotal roles at least than dejonte Murray has yeah and while he hasn’t played great per se he has still played in these in these games and he has the experience a little bit and same thing you said the change of setting might be something that you can build around or hang your hat on when it comes to rationalizing that type of deal but even then but even then I’m not blown away like I am other names and maybe that’s why the Spurs have this reservation with that but the only issue that they come across with having so many assets is eventually those assets are gonna you’re going to run out of time to use them and the the clock is ticking on the time to use these assets so whether or not they use them or not of course it’s the is the big thing we’re waiting on here but maybe the way they see it is hey we’re not thrilled with what we have in house they’re never going to go out and say that well we’re not thrilled with this team what we have in house but we’re not particularly thrilled with the idea of selling the farm for Trey young or selling the farm for Darius Garland as much as Everyone likes Trey young there are parts of his game he’s a flawed player he’s he is very much a liability defensively and if you’re going to get Trey young there’s a world where you probably have to get another sort of perimeter Defender out there too so you can mask his deficiencies on the floor at at times so the AR Cav ODS there to to each of these names and go to get them and that might be what the picture Spurs are seeing it’s not and and they’re they’re behind doors are seeing they won again won’t portray to to all of us on the outside looking in but they just might not like the idea of us all those assets on the big name that’s available and if they don’t well they don’t but there’s only so many more off Seasons where you’re kind of saying to yourself oh we have the odet that we can go we can get a star and there’s only so much you can do on a summer time goes by fast you know the comment if feels like the thread in this conversation is yes perhaps Wy could have the potential to be the best of the best fine you want to St next year uh Damian l so be it but it’s not about where worried about what he can do on the court I think it’s just more a reflection of the Spurs roster construction management in helping wimy get there so as much as Dame lard says that he predicts you know wimy by next season be the best of the best and thanks Dame but maybe the the comment should have been yeah I predict wiy could be the best of the best if the Spurs do everything right to help help him get there yeah yeah yeah and in reality in reality that should be the conversation that should be the conversation because it’s only going to go so far the narrative is going to change about how talented lmy is based off what we see the end result on the floor to a large extent yeah and again I mean the Spurs are gonna say all the things of patience building around Victor you know we want to give him time let him find himself blah blah blah all the all the things that we’ve been told for basically a year now and it’s fair it’s fair to have a very skeptical lens of it because being overly complimentary of a team that won 20 20 something games is tough to do but I think just kind of what it comes down to is that maybe the Spurs just don’t like what they’re seeing in terms of taking that big home run swing on an a yeah maybe they see the best path to their championship waiting until next year to get to get Harper or tried to get in the the Cooper flag world yeah maybe they view that as their best best PA to a championship instead of being what they see as a little bit more shortsighted with Darius or Trey young yeah and if you look at it through the lens of that of the immediacy if the immediate options are the like Trey Young deante Darius Garland this is not Shay gilis Alexander walking through the store this is not Anthony Edwards walking through this door if this was Donovan Mitchell on a more than potential one-year rental you’re saying okay take everything take everything because we know that’s the guy you’re getting the top 15 player in the league maybe top 12 player in the league you’re good you’re hanging your hat on you have him extended you could pair the two of them for four years minimum going forward but there’s no body out there right now there’s nobody out there that instills an inornate amount of confidence in that Trey young but even then it’s still debatable like I was saying at the highest degree of winning obviously he’ll impact the wins losses immensely but idle contenders next year no no no I don’t think so no And as far as wiy being the best of the best thank you Dane we appreciate it but maybe in year three or four maybe we we’ll talk to me then he is Casey Vieira my colleague at Ken 5 San it’s a little bit Yeah adapt or fall behind yeah or or if or have the wrath of your wife come down on you right yeah she a lovely lady but yeah I love her dearly she’s the love of my life but things that there are things that are asked of me that I must abide by please yeah uh please everybody forgive to meet the bare minimum of conf Competency there you go yes everybody please forgive Casey we hear a little background noise uh he is doing his duties as Daddy and all that good stuff right now he’s mobile he’s live from his car right now so please forgive him we’ll do our best try to clean it up later but hey Casey let’s talk about some lockdown Spurs fan comments that many have been leaving behind here and let’s start off with the first one here uh the first one here is this one it’s from EG Casey he says role players that’s what they Spurs need that’s what they are getting it feels like that’s going to be a very another lackluster offseason for the Spurs if they just bring in role players right Casey I think it depends on the role players though and what the definition of role players is because as we’ve learned through these these playoffs they do go a long ways if they’re fit the right way you you look at the Pacers getting to this point the nard the N Smiths of the world TJ McConnell he been fantastic for these PO for for the this in this post well I guess was past tense now that they’re out you know what I mean then you look on the ni side of things a guy like o noi been good hardenstein fantastic Josh Hart fantastic they do go a long ways and sometimes even a longer ways than the stars that they do and it might go back to what we were saying before that if the Spurs aren’t ready to get married to a star that’s out there right now they’re going to fill in the blanks of this rostered construction which is fair because as we have also learned this year backing teams with stars with leaving yourselves with fill in pieces minimal assets that era is gone look at Phoenix Phoenix is so void of that of void of anything because they loaded all their money into Durant Booker Bradley Beal to a lesser extent nkic and Grayson Allen there’s nothing left for them to do so I do think there is value in bold players if you can do that if that is the way that they go I would rather them figure that out and get those plac to pieces that complement Victor better then force a star here where they’re not entirely sure as a motorcycle goes right by me beautiful um I would rather I would rather them dig and find pieces that support Victor better because again this is a marathon for them then try their hand at a star that they’re skeptical about because when you’re with a star for four years you’re stuck with it for four years y if it ain’t happening those are the two guys it’s not happening with and you’re stuck with it and if they don’t see that guy right now they can confidently feel like they can be the option for multiple years with Victor don’t forc it because they have the luxury of time to a certain extent to a certain extent but if there are names out there that feel like they do work around the Sun that is Victor I don’t think it’s the worst scenario in the world that they do that no I I I agree with you if anything it should be a lesson right now we’re looking at well you mentioned Phoenix is the biggest lesson all those Stars didn’t work Brooklyn Nets recently Kyrie ardin Durant didn’t work uh rarely does it at work uh maybe what it’s the the Miami Heat years at work go to state at work with Kevin Durant joining them but rarely does that work and I think you need role players the next uh one I guess Allstar you know one he was an MVP candidate Jaylen Brunson nothing but supporting C around and they had a pretty good uh playoff run until they got hit with injuries so the Spurs definitely should be looking at role players and you need those glue guys you eat those guys in the court that will do the dirty work and I’m pretty sure the Spurs will definitely do that thank you for that comment there and we’ll Mo on to the next one and this one Casey comes from Frank Santini he says we Spurs need a sharp shooter read or connect with one of the picks in the first round ah Casey that’s a win-win you get one of those guys with four or eight you’re good spur should be all right avoid that they need I mean they need perimeter def they need perimeter Defenders they need Shooters they do I think that’s part of the reason we’re gonna see Kon Johnson on the way out this summer was that I think they viewed this year for hel in to see if he can become that a little bit more to be more of that spot up guy and kind of see if it does happen because I think they like Kellin or not think I know they like they like K I appreciate him here but as we said so many times before if it just isn’t happening it’s not entirely happening and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s where they look to upgrade a little bit this year is at that three four Wing Spot a guy who can shoot and fill that fill that a little bit better than Kelvin Johnson had and get a better spot guy I know a lot of people have talked about Kelly UB here and and I’ll be honest I was very skeptical of UB until I saw him in that the Nick six playoff series I’ve warned up to the idea of Kelly U For What It’s wor he yeah yeah he he definitely looks like he would know his role uh if the Spurs were to chase him uh you know gives you offense gives you def defense gives you a little bit of everything uh it would not be a horrific pickup but again it just comes down to how much would the Spurs spend on a guy like UB but as far as connect or read um yeah a win win there’s your outside shooting a young kid both of them they they’ll fit right into the timeline of this rebuild and you move forward and you hope they just knock down their shots because countless times you know the Spurs were just outgunned throughout last season you looked at the stat sheet Casey how many times you were and I at the at the frost Center looking at the Statue like oh well there you go Spurs couldn’t connect on their threes oh there you go they went in an offensive drought in the third quarter they they were really came down to that so they need to find that outside shooter and through the through the draft Casey so be it huh well you know what there’s something do that I think because the numbers when they were hooking they were really good in terms of ball movement and three-point shooting I forget how it all worked out at the end of the year but in terms of their assist per a game average what is but what it was but you the the ball movement on this team was very efficient at times and I would love to look at the deeper analytical numbers of you know they have numbers for everything of the amount of open spot up threes that they were getting because it felt like had times when those jumpers were falling they were creating space with Victor he was had the gravity thing going on that’s a good job of getting the ball out and when the jumpers were falling they were falling so if they can get some semblance of consistency around that even you you you obviously love Vel and he’s the second best player on this team but consistency at times is a concern not not singling out the cell just kind of all encompassing idea of it on the guys who’s going to get the volume shots that probably if they’re going to go the role player rout finding more consistent shooting I think has to be I think finding more consistent shooting and seeing what you can do to upgrade at that big spot aside from Victor to add more depths I think those got to be two priorities you and I know you and I we have sat here we’ve sat here we’ sat here how many times Isaiah hartstein on oh yes is everything is every hardenstein is is everything they want and I guess Zack Collin still could be he’s still young but airing that with Victor are both of the both on the floor at the same time or him coming in to spell Victor if they ended an offseason just hartenstein alone that would be a big win because if we’re going to talk about role players a guy like that like if I’m a Spurs fan if they had a hartenstein UB off season and they hit on their draft pick I would be happy with that I would I would be happy with that yeah but that’s we all want the big home run hitter but yeah yeah I think that’s what I I think that’s what a lot of Spurs fans are expecting this offseason that home run hit uh and the Spurs bring in some Power Player but I I think they’re just going to wait till the I think if anything happens like that it’ll be after the draft once you know they’ll see what kind of there’s any draft day deals you know does Phoenix get desperate like they have no picks until eternity at this point I exaggerate but could they be desperate enough to make a sweetheart of a deal to the Spurs Brooklyn Nets the same thing you know they don’t have that many picks so you wait to see that and we’ll see if there’s any movement after the draft but I think that’s where they’ll look at the course of their rebuild right now thanks again for that comment Frank
