WHY DO Mock Drafts Have the Spurs DRAFTING TWO GUARDS!?

Spurs fans you know I love mock drafts and I’m seeing a lot of mock drafts have our Spurs taking two guards actually seeing a lot of mock drafts have our Spurs taking two point [Music] guards what is up San Antonio Spurs fans welcome to TSR Sports so you guys know I look at mock drafts well you probably don’t know but I do look at Mock Draft probably almost every single day yes sure they mean nothing but you’d like to see what the experts are saying our Spurs may do and I came across this this morning and noticed the Hoops hype and bleach report have us doing the same thing and I wanted to share it with you guys they have us taking Nicole Topic at four which personally I would not be upset if we draft topic but I much prefer him with the eighth pick over the fourth pick due to his recent knee injuries injury plural so they have a second Topic at four and now at the a overall pick well what do we need we could grab a wing maybe a center who knows what do we do we draft another point guard and dilling Rob Dillingham and these are the only two that I’ve seen have us mock draft nicoa topic and Rob Dillingham they both play point guard what what is the train of thought here are the Spurs going to start some new hybrid two-point guard system I mean we did run two points occasionally at times last year especially off at the bench came in but the pecking order will be Trey Jones topic Dilly and Blake I can’t wrap my head around this the Spurs clearly in my opinion and I a lot of you share this need a point guard and a win I like Julian champeny to this point I don’t think he’s a starter in the NBA he’s a very good role player Off the Bench so we need a wing and a point guard why would we draft two point guards why would we draft two point guards may let me know in the comments down below and am I missing something by the way if the Spurs Draft Dillingham it ain’t totally fine with that I think race we talked him about on this channel sounds like there’s no way he’s going to be there at 4 and at the Spurs Draft castle at four which I’m seeing more and more rumors Spurs talking trying down this morning or yesterday if to take castle at four then salon at eight all eight who the heck knows but taking two point guards is ridiculous but the stick on the guard te here CBS Sports and I think this is the one I did a reaction to last week Hadis drafting Reed Shephard and D so both Kentucky guards in the lottery and I have a question here I know dly probably be the starter and hopefully eventually be the starter Reed Shepard is a shooting guard I try to cover the Spurs as much as I can and being up to date on news did the Spurs move on from Devon Vel did we not sign him to a five-year extension I mean with our lottery picks at 4 and eight are we drafting future starters or future bench players because if we’re taking topic and Dill I got to think only one of them starting so one of the other whoever doesn’t starts going to the bench same thing isn’t Reed Sheard projected to possibly be a point guard yes shoting guard prob would make more sense so we drafting a shooting guard then we’re drafting as a backup we Ed a fourth overall pick for a backup if I’m at a loss for words it’s because I’m at a loss for words I feel like when these mock drafts are done at least for our team they’re not really looking at our team needs they clearly know we need a guard but what reason do they think we need two this is going to be a short video fans this is more of a rant we always joke around about how you know not joke around but you ESPN disrespects us and the media in general just give the Spurs an 11 these mock drafts I’m feeling that right now like yes you know we piece that’s clearly obvious if you watch any type of basketball it’s should be obvious the Spurs are looking to get a point guard because of the Trey young rumors the uh the J Murray rumors d’angel Russell Darius Garland by the way my two STS and Darius Garland he’s got a huge contract I think it’s like 40 plus million year over the next three or four years don’t see it happening but hey Never Say Never he’s another undersiz guard too right he’s any like 61 I believe or maybe I’m totally messing up his height anyway Circle back around I feel like you’re just thr throw names at a dartboard for our Spurs I’ve seen some good mock drafts but ideally we’re going to take a point guard in a wing and all these drafts at having us taking two guards I don’t understand what the long-term plan is you rolling in dice when you draft topit and Dilly hey if Topic’s knee doesn’t hold up then you got Dilly or maybe if Dilly his size becomes an issue you got topic instead so we’re just throwing away one of these picks I don’t know I’m rambling it’s driving me crazy hopefully it’s driving you crazy too and that’s all I got little bit of announcement at the end of the video uh if everything goes as planned we will be live myself and the Dixon way Monday night at 8:00 pm Eastern to talk draft and talk possible trades about with the Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks he’s a huge Atlanta Hawks fan there’s a course the recent history with the Hawks With Us trading J Murray for a ton of draft capital and there’s all the rumors with Trey young the ja muray possi being traded back and then there’s the Hawks holding that number one pick could the Spurs trade something to swap pick four with their pick one and then there’s the future picks that we hold on to from Atlanta 25 and 27 with the Swap and 26 so there’s so much possible things happening between the Hawks and the Spurs felt like I couldn’t just wrapped it up in one video I figured Hawks fans and Spurs fans will probably want to chime in so we’re going to go live at 8:00 pm that should be a lot of fun looking forward to working with him for the first time that being said drop a comment down below these this two guard stuff what just nonsense right nonsense hit the thumbs up like support this channel that’s all we’re ask for here and being sure to hit the Subscribe button Jo join our awesome San Antonio Spurs Community thank you and as always go Spurs go [Music]

  1. Am I missing something? Why would the Spurs draft TWO point guards!? Thanks for watching and GO SPURS GO!

  2. PGs aren't a sure thing regardless of hype so throwing darts on two improves odds that we'll walk away w/ a future PG to team up w/ Wemby to build around.

  3. Dillingham and Castle aren't pure point guards. Dillingham is like Iverson: a shooting guard in a point guard's body and Castle is an upgraded version of Wesley, a combo guard who can pass

  4. I think we need a point and a power forward. When you think contenders, none of them have a power forward as small as Jeremy. He has to develop into a 3 n d player to have a starting spot in a contender.

  5. I say trade up from 4 to either 1 or 2 and take risacher/sarr + topic/castle. It shouldnt take too much to make happen and would be much better for us in the long run compared to anything i see happening with 4 and 8

  6. 2 guards? Small Ball backcourt to keep Wesley and Branham in the rotation. Playing at the 3. Tre is not going anywhere.

  7. i'm getting pretty close to ignoring all of these mock drafts. these are all just kind of interesting thought experiments, but that's about it. in most of these recent mock draft videos the guys doing the draft even admit that they are making pics that are different from previous mock drafts because they "just wanted to change it up". as a result you have six dozen different mock drafts with six dozen different outcomes. I like that all these mock drafts are familiarizing me with a lot of players I didn't know, but they aren't particularly useful when it comes to predicting the actual NBA draft. I agree the spurs are going to probably try to get a guard and a wing, but if you told me we were getting two guards then my hopes would be for those two guards to be castle and Shepherd.

  8. Tre Jones only has one more year in his contract. So to resign tre Jones to another contract would be alot of money so now you have your 2 pgs for the next 4 years.

  9. Given the multiple needs that SA has, it would be simply dumb for SA to draft two guards, much less two point guards. The Talking Heads need something to talk about even when there really isn’t much to discuss. A PG and wing is what SA needs and you expect any top 10 choice to be able to contribute in some form from day one of the season. In that vein, I’m not high on either of these two PGs. Topic just had a second injury to the SAME KNEE. The video I’ve seen of him has him slashing to the rim with no opposition. That is NOT going to happen in the NBA. Too many question marks for me to draft him in the top 10. Dilly does not have an NBA body at the present time. I am warming to Castle if he is available at 4. He may not be ready to play PG immediately, but he is a defender and he can play 1-3. He can contribute while learning the PG position.

What I think is going on with this mock draft is that the Talking Heads have ranked the players and are assigning them to teams in order of the draft with no consideration of team needs. In a weak draft where any number of players could go 1-10 and there are no clear cut winners, there is simply no excuse to not draft for need and SA does NOT need 2 PGs!

  10. The only way you draft two PG is to hedge your bet for the team's PG for the future. But Ron Holland is my pick at 4 if Risacher is not avail or we cannot get him trading up w/o giving away the store. I still believe the Spurs will be giving Blake one more year to get their future PG.

  11. My draft would be Castle at 4 and Tidjane Salaun at 8. If this works out, Sochan can switch and be a big 3 as opposed to a small 4 (I really like Sarr as a big 4, but there is little to no chance he falls to 4th pick). Tidjane is more raw than I would like, but he potentially fits SA’s needs better than the alternatives. He definitely has more of an upside.

  12. I’ve been seeing the exact same mocks as you, and it’s easy to tell these “experts” have never watched a Spurs game, let alone know what the team needs. They see Vic highlights and how the team didn’t get him the ball sometimes and say “they need a point guard!” And then have no clue who else to mock. They need a wing at 4, because it looks like a PG will be there at 8.

  13. I don't think any of those three players will be good defenders in the NBA, though Shepard can be good team defender and cover passing lanes well. I won't mind getting Shepard in the draft, Dillingham is a maybe for me. Hopefully Dilli's impact is closer to Morant and Trae Young than it is to Ty Ty Washington. Not sold on Topic yet, right now I would rather the Spurs draft Castle. As far as PG goes the Spurs don't need to draft one right now. Better yet they can probably trade for one with experience like Brogdan, Anfernee, or Tyus. In a supposed weak draft I would draft players that have the best upside of becoming solid NBA players over positional needs.

  14. If we go 2 point gaurds i’d rather it be Castle and rob. The rationale is Rob can run with the second unit. Then to close the game Castle can run a point forward role with dev and rob in the backcourt. Or we could just start both and have Castle run point forward from the jump

  15. I’ve been thinking the same thing, people saying they are different style point guards, they are still point guards at the end of the day, this is why drafting the best wing avaioable at 4 either risacher or buzelis, then taking best avaioable point guard at 8

  16. NBA is a guard driven league, these days. TOPICH is a Ginobliesque type of young player. He's 6'5ish with an ability to get to the hoop and score. He's 19 and his skill set can be developed by the Spurs elite coaching, he can become a Wing, if necessary. DILLO offers his energy and winning presence he is able to drive to the basket very much like a young TONY PARKER! So the thinking, as I see it, would be establishing core key components just like Pop did when he brought in Parker, Ginobli, Duncan. We already have the Wemby/Duncan piece of the puzzle. All we need is Topich & Dillo to have a 2.0 version of the BIG 3 so that San Antonio can dominate for at least a decade to come

  17. I hope not, I want castle for sure, unless dillingham coming off the bench which would work give are bench firer power

  18. I don't think it's impossible that the Spurs might take 2 points because Trey Jones is only under contract for one more year so they really might be looking for both a starter and a backup. Especially since Blake Wesley hasn't set the world on fire….he might be seen as being half way out the door already. Hopefully the Spurs are painfully aware that they not only need to complete the starting rotation, but totally overhaul that embarrassing second unit.

  19. Reed gives me John Stockton vibe.
    Will it work in 2024?

Topic hurts his knee twice this year.

Dilly is 6'1 with mediocre bounce.

    Castle struggle with his shoot.

It will be a hard draft day for us.

  20. Maybe Spurs logic could be : we can find a good wing through next drafts/free agency/trades.
We already have Victor and Vassell, maybe Sochan is our 4 long term too.
So if we pick two guards (Topic/Castle/Dilly/Sheppard), that's 50% more chances to find THE guard we need to build our starting 5. 🤔

  21. Wemby will make us significantly better next season. We aren’t going to get another opportunity like this in next year’s draft. For this reason I’d like to get 2 forwards like Risacher by trading up our 4th pick and Keldon.

We can also draft Tidjane Salaun or Ron Holland at 8. Next years draft is stacked we could draft a better PG then with our 1st round draft pick.

  22. While I agree that I would like to come away with a wing and a pg, I also see just taking the best player available. So if there is not a wing that our office likes, taking a guard they do like is ok. Drafting for fit is always a little sketchy because that’s how great players fall past you. I also think back to the kings taking Halliburton even though they had a pg already. They took their guy and they ended up getting Sabonis out of it a few years later which propelled them to their first playoff appearance in years.

  23. I'm still of the mind set the Spurs play it safe and grab one guard;Topic or Castle and one big front court guy; Buzelis or Saulan. OR go two big men if Risacher is somehow available at #4 and either Buzelis or Salaun at #8 which one is still available. AND wait for Nolan Traore or Dylan Harper next year!!!

  24. If we have 3 PG at least one of them could be good 🤣🤣🤣 from the bench 🤣🤣🤣

Joke aside hope we don't trade one of the best player we have… No way Jose we trade Vassel or Sochan. Hope we keep cidy and mamou. The rest… Champaignie showed good things at the end…

  25. Alien in the Mask 👽…. No Fan i have chatted with…."i go to at least four different bars in the North of San Antonio " WANTS TOPIC over CASTLE… Defense… DEFENSE AT GUARD … topic is tall and maybe he can use his size. ,,,, LOOK AT GIDDY on OKC … Thats your TOPIC…..
