[Charania] Unrivaled – a professional women’s 3-on-3, six-team league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier – is setting the record for paying the highest average salary in pro female team sports history. Notable signings to be announced in near future.

  1. > The new league begins its first season in January and will take place in the winter, which is opposite of WNBA season. The initial 30 players also receive equity ownership in the league.

This says more about the WNBA shitty salaries than it does about another 3v3 league that nobody will care about.

Does anyone care about BIG3? Idk maybe people do.

“A league that has not had its financial viability tested in any way is paying its employees more”

This doesn’t mean anything until they actually start playing and see how much revenue they’re going to generate.

  4. fragileallstar

slightly irrelevant but the 3×3 format imo has huge potential if marketed well

  5. SolidCat1117

I literally just heard of this today. Where is all this money coming from? Certainly not from marketing.

  6. Grouchy-Chemical7275

The real question is for how long this venture will be financially viable

From what I can tell, they’re going to run this or aim to run seasons starting in January. So in the middle of the NBA and both men’s and women’s college basketball seasons. Not sure how many folks are out there to consume some kind of new league.

    Good luck.

This might actually work better than WNBA. The BiG3 games were fun and easy to get into the first time watching. They were barely advertised though and got very little national media coverage.

Was cuban right about the entry fee thing?

Unrivaled? Sounds like a WWE pay-per-view.

Would only be successful with the Queen of the WNBA, Caitlin ‘The GOAT’ Clark 🐐

  12. Gotta ask who is bankrolling this. There is no way that this will generate enough income to pay players, rent arenas, and advertise. They must be expecting a TV deal hoping that names like Caitlyn Clark will draw viewers. Hint: it won’t. The buzz around Clark is falling quickly now that she’s in the WNBA.

  13. Michipotz

Where are the feminists? Those arenas should be packed! /s

Soo dumb. They think they are taking some social justice stand by paying women more money, in reality they are just going to kill their business.

No one watches woman’s basketball. It’s just not entertaining when compared to men’s basketball. Caitlin Clark isn’t changing that either. When’s their next game? No one knows or cares lol.

  15. InfiniteJackfruit5

I’m starting to believe the players think the WNBA actually makes money and they are all just being held down by suppressed wages.

  16. This is seed capital for a “pre-revenue” company. All the numbers right now are made up.

  17. My first initial thought is that this is obviously not going to work. But I’m guessing they would’ve done their research with people who know what they’re doing. Hopefully it works out the way they would like it to.

  18. I wish them the best but I think a lot of investors are about to lose big

  19. mattbrianjess

I hope that tulip like speculation doesn’t kill this moment women’s professional sports is having.

  20. Donkeynuts00

Changing up the game is a good idea for women’s basketball. The wbna can’t compete with the nba as far as entertainment goes. Why not give people something different?

  21. LochLowry

You could make a 3v3 team of Dennis Schroeder, Doug McDermott, and Marvin Bagley and it would have a higher average salary than any men’s professional sports team. It’s 3v3 – there are no players at the end of the bench making minimums and dragging the average down.

  22. Can we stop with posts that are not relevant to NBA

  23. So they’re paying 18 ladies ~$200k so they can play 3v3 and compete with the WNBA, NBA, College men and woman’s ball, on top of the fucking NFL playoffs for probably no more than a few months.

Do WNBA players just not want to make money. I’d be surprised if they cleared even $0.01.

  24. GrizZzlyFish

I’m not rooting against it but I don’t see it lasting long.

  25. addiconda

Yea… So Bellator tried doing this, paying their fighters more…. Now they’re deep in shit and being forced to sell their company to rival
