around some people in the league feel as if Carl Anthony Towns at times could be a little bit of a front runner I don’t believe that to be the case for car Anthony towns but you do need to see more consistency from him and you want there to be more stability from him when things go wrong look there’s a difference between him in Road games as opposed to home games okay on the road in the playoffs averaging 22 points per game 50% from the floor 43% from the three-point line as opposed to win they’re at home averaging 14 points per game on 36% shooting on 30 30% from the how do you explain it the wolves have been so much better on the road and they’re six and two on the road in the postseason it just comes to are you more focused on the road like why is there such a huge discrepancy but to me it comes you had a great game in game four 20 points in the second half who are you going to be now that things got a little well on the road now it time tance to come back home so what what what the more you see of Carl Anthony towns in the playoffs the more you feel what and the majority of the responses that I got and this is from callers and listeners is basically that they don’t like what they’re seeing the more they see because during the regular season he’s a 2510 guy he can shoot 40% from three there’s a lot of things that you can like about num and what you see during a regular season but this is his first real foray into highlevel playoff pressure kind of performances and what you said about his shooting at home Minnesota you played there that’s a good shooting gym I mean that’s one of those places in the league that PE players love to go play because it’s a tight building and you shoot well there for him to not shoot well at home that’s a big concern but it’s more of the more you’re seeing of him is the numbers now being skewed what he does during the regular season do you not like what you see about him and I’ll tell you this there’s some concern about him in his future in Minnesota because think about this is like an audition for him are you the one be next to Anthony Edwards to win a championship I think it all starts with mentality I I think it all starts sometimes with silly fouls which we heard Anthony Edwards tell him like Hey no more silly fouls like silly fouled out in game four and also starts with yo punish people on the Block you and Rudy goar you guys you are twin towers for a reason Chuck people put people on their back if Derrick Jones switches on you been though no but it it’s not about has it ever been him who it needs to be now for them to go to the next level that’s what we’re trying to see the next iteration Anthony towns exactly that that’s it so there is more well there is at least as much at stake for him as there is for anyone but of course it’s a it’s a a game to go to the finals for the Mavericks so there’s everything in the world that stake for both sides and part of the conversation when I took an interesting do he’s the second best player in the league it’s not even CL yic is one and he’s two I he is so good he is he is the second best player in the NBA Luka Luca there is not my mind there’s not even a now we’re going to put LeBron aside he’s 40 years old yeah all right he’s the second best player in the league he is so good it is unbelievable Luca donic second best player in the world agree or disagree he’s wrong how’s that cuz Luca’s pass joic he’s number one right now what he’s doing he’s first of all still playing joic is not he’s done things in the playoffs triple doubles scoring wise finishing big buckets all those things you can match up with what joic did last year in his performance to a championship Luc is on his way to potentially winning a championship this year his first one he’s 25 years old like this is what he’s done in his career up to the age of 25 are things that we haven’t seen from a player of his age he is not one of the best players in the world right now I would put him as the best player in the world what do you think that I think you’re surfly crazy I I I I I think we are really living in a highlight I think we’re we’re living in a highlight driven world I think we’re in a world of all offense Luca top three but to me if you’re going to be the best player in the world you have to do it on both sides man you have to do it on both and Nicole 15 rebound triple double rebounds is a big part of the other side of the ball what does have to do with rebounding you get off a rebound is the stop Jay and if you get a rebound as a 66 guard that’s a big deal you get 15 of them in a playoff game even bigger okay so are you talking more offense are you talking are you actually on TV trying to solidify who Luca is defensively if your goal is to win a championship Jay Williams and I’m letting you choose every single person walking the face of planet Earth right now and to Chris’s Point let’s let’s put LeBron and staff and guys like that in a different cat who are you taking well but that’s really what we’re talking about I think it’s a different you want to win a championship well I I’ll probably take Nicole yic I IIs is in that conversation Yannis is there and I’ll probably take Luca right there as well I do like GA for what he does defensively and who he is as a ball Hawk as well jannis H you’re talking about jannis yis can’t close I I can’t I can’t trust him in the last minute of a game with the ball in his hand I know I him with Luca he just went against the four-time defensive player of the year did a step back three in his grill and then told him you can’t guard me I’ll start my team with that guy every day I’m with you I I hear you and I’m not saying that luuka is not one of those people but for you to just say he’s Bonafide the best player in the world I pass I think that’s very much recency bias on what we’ve seen over the last several weeks it’s not recency because the last three time MVP it is the all a sudden he’s not in the conversation this is first of all Luca has taken the Mavericks to the Conference Finals now in two of the last three years he’s about to get into the NBA finals for his first time all the things we say about Jason Tatum the same things Luca donz is facing right now can you win a championship he’s still very young he is still the leader of that team and if he gets to the finals his usage rate which means his team relies on him more than any other player on the team his usage rate is going to be the highest of any player in the last 45 years Allan Iverson was that previous guy back in 2001 that’s how much they rely on him to get them to the promised land I understand that but so how do you define best player in the world tell me his overall skill and wait are you so are we just talking offense are you talking about I’m just asking you cuz this is like a new age of basketball to go two-way player here now well that’s what that isn’t that the best player in the world or is the best player in the world wait is the best player in the world wasn’t the best player in the world Michael Jordan yes now who did it on both sides of the ball so all of a sudden are we are we lessening that standard I’m asking you L all right you still haven’t given me a name yet of the guy who you say is impactful on both ends of the floor I’ll give you one go ahead I will give you the guy who I think right now you can include Luca you can include uh Giannis you can include jic you can include anyone you want over the next 10 years the guy I think will win more championships than any of them is Anthony Edwards and if you were telling me I could start a team with any of them right now that’s who I would take he by the way is 22 years old he does do it on both sides of the floor and he is the air to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant he’s not faking it he’s not trying to be like Mike he’s not trying to adopt a mama mentality he just has it he this this kid was born with the same stuff those guys were born with and those guys won 11 championships in the NBA this guy is 22 he says all the right things does all the right things and none of it is fake it just is inside of him by the way he’ll D up your guy any day of the week and your guy can’t de him up I will right now if you’re telling me I could take any player to start a in the NBA with right now any player I would start it with you know what this is always fluid right and that can change if they make a comeback and win this series certainly I will not change my mind but right now right now L Luka is one game away from putting him home right sending him home sending Shay gilgas Alexander home and getting himself to the finals there’s levels to this but it is definitely fluid and that can change with Anthony Edwards cuz you’re right all the things are there for him but he’s not there yet it doesn’t change in my opinion what I said which is over the next 10 years I would bet he will win more Champions that wasn’t the question than Luka will best in the world how are you change the question well Mad Dog said best player right now the best way to define that question to me is who would you most want to have on your team if your objective is to win and I will take Anthony Edwards in the long run more than anything else this is a right now right right moment he just beat joic in his own building in a game seven not too long ago again he’s 22 years years old he’s three years young we keep talking about how young Luca and Tatum are Anthony Edwards is 22 years old doing down 31 I just think that this is a little bit of a recency bias and I get that we’re going to have the conversation around did you give us a name yet though Jay yeah I I say Yannis jannis I told I dude I think Giannis is the best player in the world I do I think Nicole yic is right there is hard for me I don’t have a definitive number one I think it’s still being up to be grabbed right now and by the way Luca their talent offensively I’ll give it to him him and yic highest usage rate best players in the world the problem is though when that drops defensively for me when I see him trying to be hid defensively that concerns me a little bit I’m not saying he’s not I’ve seen him in this series do a lot more defensively than we have in the past [Music]
