Christian Braun or Peyton Watson future STARTERS for Denver Nuggets?
On the latest Pickaxe and Roll episode, Ryan Blackburn goes over the 2023-24 seasons for the Denver Nuggets young guys. Prospects Christian Braun, Peyton Watson, Zeke Nnaji, Julian Strawther, Jalen Pickett, and Hunter Tyson played varying roles for the Nuggets, and all are under contract for next season. Which players impressed? Which players regressed? Is there a future starter among the Nuggets young guys to eventually replace veteran contributors?

RB, I just cracked the code if we can aggregate contracts when kcp opts out for the draft day trade… the contracts of Zeke, Reggie, Vlatko, Strawther, Picket, & Tyson all add up to $22.8 mil while Brucey B is $23mil
We trade all 6 players in a 3 team trade involving TOR & IND, our 6 guys can go dispersed in any way to those 2 teams
In return we get Brucey B., TOR 2nd rd pk (#31 via DET) & IND 2nd rd pk (#36 via TOR)
At the draft we get Brucey B.
Our #28 pk
TOR #31 pk
IND #36 pk
That leaves us with 10 players on our roster once the 2024 nba draft is finished… Calv & our F/O draft (1) PF/SF (Defensive 6'8" AG prototype), (1) PF/SF (Stretch 4 Shooting 6'10" MPJ prototype), & (1) PF/C (Stretch 5 shooting 7 Footer Kelly Olynyk prototype)
Next we re-sign KCP to a new 4 yr deal, that puts our roster at 11
After that we re-sign DJ & Holiday to Vet Minimum deals that puts our roster at 13
Our 2 remaining spots also go to vet minimum deals unless we're able to use our mid level since we traded Reggie not sure how the mid level could be used or if we have any access to it since Brucey B's contract would absorb it
For our 2 remaining spots fingers crossed 🤞 for Drummond & Lowry, if by some miracle it works were at 15 players
Final Roster:
PG: Murray/Brucey B/Lowry
SG: KCP/CB/Holiday
SF: MPJ/PWat/ROOKIE
PF: AG/ROOKIE/ROOKIE
C: MV3/Drummond/DJ
Someone get this Mssg out to Calv 🏆🏆⚒️🏀 b4 the draft!!!
We don’t know what Peyton Watson will be in a year or two. His shooting from deep has to improve. His midrange game shows promise. I like his passing. But is he really a future starter, even a future star? Or is he gonna max out as bench energy? Nobody knows.
Trade Zeke please, if possible for Vasilije Micic, if not put Pickett there too. Or, simply trade Reggie for Vasilije. Focus on Strawther and Huff who can be that backup 5 instead of Zeke. Huff just needs more serious playing time.
Hey Ryan just wanted to say really love the content. Appreciate all the stuff you’re putting out 🙏
We need to send away Zeke Naji, Jordan, Reggie, Pickett,
We need Saric as backup center and Micic as back up point guard.
Our ideal lineups would be
PG Murray/ Micic
SG Braun/ Strawther
SF Porter/ Watson
PF Gordon/ Cancar
C Jokic/ Saric
As Matt Moore and Sean Keeler have recently pointed out, CB is significantly less talented than KCP. He works as the 7th player on the roster. Mike Malone in the season wrap up press conference said that in order to be a starting shooting guard you have to be able to shot. CB can't. He is just OK from the 3 point line on low volume. He has no meaningful mid-range jumper, is mediocre from the free throw line, and terrible finishing at the rim. Very good on defense and at rebounding. Not remotely close to starter quality.
