Stephen A.: The Lakers’ OBVIOUS favoritism invites cynicism & is unfair to Bronny! | First Take
quick take essay this one’s for you so bronny James is remaining in the draft his agent Rich Paul telling ESPN the number 54 Prospect in the ESPN 100 has had a strong pre-draft process keep in mind the Lakers have the 17th and the 55th pick Stephen A thoughts on bronny stay in the draft well first of all um I understand it from the standpoint that you know what he could always go back to college or what have you I mean that’s allowed in this day and age so that’s that rich Paul made clear months ago um so his options are still his options and I don’t blame him for exploring it to the max all I’m saying is that what what what we have to be careful about what I would implore LeBron James to be careful about is that so much of of of what’s transpiring seems so transparent it’s insulting you have a situation where bronny James get uh is projected as the N is ranked 998th on on on the talent pool he goes to the NBA uh combine Molly and it drops 44 slots to 54 and the Lakers have the 55th pick in the second round I mean but really it’s like really you know must you be I mean Molly he didn’t drop 38 slots you know saying like the 58 or something 60 right he didn’t drop 50 slots to the you know the 48 or something oh no right around the number where the Lakers get the pick in other words so if we pick them it’s Justified because look they had a rank 54 I think we had the 55th pick I mean come on man you know you just you just sit up there you you watch these folks and it’s like just like I said before just to reiterate my point you could have started the podcast with JJ in the playoffs with the offseason after the Lakers moved on from darham Oh no you’re going to start the podcast on basketball the game while darham is on the hot seat talking schematics talks and exos and all of this other stuff then darham gets fired and then after that JJ reick emerges as a top candidate for the job even though that’s not etched in stone and LeBron wants wants us to say had nothing to do with it as I said on the air the other day I guess 1 plus one really does equal four I mean we we I mean it’s just new math you just you can’t make this stuff up at some point in time it’s like too much looks too damn obvious and so I look at bronny James and I’m like man I’m rooting for this kid great kid wish him nothing but the best wonderful family wonderful kid all of that other stuff but when stuff like this happens yeah it just invites cynicism and skepticism and that’s totally unfair to that kid [Music]
Stephen A. Smith joins First Take to describe his problem with Bronny James’ ranking in 2024 NBA mock drafts as the Los Angeles Lakers are trending towards drafting the oldest son of their star player, LeBron James.

SAS said he received his scholarship without playing no high school basketball and hitting 21 3 pointers in a pickup game. Pot calling the kettle.
I hope they draft lil Bron and the guy drafted after him becomes an all time great
Dude this food didn't even call up the NBA so they can investigate the San Antonio Spurs for taking 2 years in a row now remember Gregg popovich isn't a sorry coach he's a coach that can have your team go to the playoffs every year obviously he's thinking on purpose that's a story for you Steven A to say
Glad SAS says the real….no one else has the courage I guess.
If this BS happends and bron still wanting his 164million Laker nation must stand up.
only way Lakers should get bronny if Bron sr waves away his 164mil .
Else its better to let Bron go ,and maybe sell AD and start rebuilding
Nepotism on steroids
He can’t go back to college sas he chose to forego his college eligibility
Tell it like it is Stephen A
facts. He'll never live up to any of this hype thats being manufactured. He's just not that guy. His FATHER was. He will see the NBA though I believe but it will be in small spurts until he is released and plays over seas…
Waiting for Bronny to appear on "Shaqtin' a Fool!"
Can you just watch him ? cuz like you said you never even seem him play
Bron fans like this sh&!? How can anyone defend this ? You are taking the spot of some kid trying to make it , while millionaire nephews baby waltzes in.
Shaq kid had open heart surgery. I wonder why the nba didn’t draft him…..
#StephenA good guy.. great person overall…but what happen to #MaxKellerman tho..every aspect of life is situational…
SAS < So Arrogant Salty
But the lakers don’t control how much he drop SAS
If his name was Bronny Jones no one would be talking about him
Bronny bouta become the leagues new Thanasis 🤣🤣
Bron Mode
It’s privilege for sure, and LeBron made it very clear that he wants to play with his son before he retires, and that time is close, so obviously they’re going to do everything they can behind the scenes to make it happen, push the narrative, and make it a feel-good story and sendoff. It’s a win-win for his legacy/imagine the sponsorships alone…💯
If Jeanie Buss wants to keep Lebron happy all they have to do is just hire JJ Reddick as the next head coach and draft Bronny with their 17th pick. Just get it outta the way
If I average 4 points in college can I get drafted too ?
I do like the kids motor and his defense
It’s wrong….. theirs other talented players in college they should’ve gave an invite to!!!
This is highlevel reaching 🤣🤣
I think Bronny will be a late 1st round pick. A team with draft him just for publicity alone.
Funny James
I don’t see anything wrong with this? Stop crying! He is LeBron James’s son stfu 🤫 😂
SAS is rooting for bronny but not his dad. SAS is using this situation to offset the other beefs he is currently involved in! The backstabbing he does keep him in awkward situations (isiah thoma/jaylen brown, kyrie irving, draymond green, t o, stephen jackson and countless others)
