so as we know over the last couple of years the Golden State Warriors have been a small team as compared to their counterparts across the NBA and because of that they’ve really struggled on both ends especially with Rim protection last year the Warriors 21st in the opposition’s field goal percentage at less than 5et and then the field goal percentage at 5 to9 fet Golden State 26th and where did they rank as far as blocks per game 23rd with only 4.6 per night gold state has to get better there especially when you look at the landscape of some of the top NBA contenders across the league and in the west having more size than the Warriors and that is what’s really holding this Golden State team back from getting back the championship contention partially in addition to obviously building up more Talent on this Warriors roster but don’t you worry because we found a talent bereft solution and we have found a solution for this Warriors team to have more size have more Rim protection and in lot of trade speculation since Cleveland was ousted in the NBA playoffs NBA insiders believing that a Warriors trade for the Cavs big man is quote realistic Jake Weinbach with this one there’s a realistic pathway for Golden State and Cleveland to engage in a swap deal centered around Jared Allen and Andrew Wiggins this off season the Warriors are expected to invest in a rim protector and the Cavs have reportedly been linked to Wiggins within the past year this is a trade in my opinion that makes a lot of sense for both teams Cleveland as well as Golden State and the Warriors as we know as I mentioned off the rip they need size and if you bring in a player like Jared Allen or another big and you have Trace Jackson Davis you’re pretty much set in that department and Allen feels like the best option considering his vast skill set on both ends offensively defensively and Cleveland’s willingness to move him now I did take an issue at him missing the playoff games with bruised ribs that doesn’t fly for me especially in this era that I kind of consider soft even as a young guy but went on the floor Jared Allen really really good player you look at the numbers this past year he was durable up until that rib injury 77 games played 16 1 12 points per 10 and a half boards more than a block per night so he’d help you there and then 63.4% from the field he will not shoot the mid-range he will not shoot the long ball but Jared Allen as that pick and roll threat that lob threat we’ve seen how Derek Lively and some of the other players PJ Washington Daniel Gafford have helped that element of Luca Do’s game imagine how Jared Allen could help out Steph Curry’s game in that regard with the great passing vision and touch that Steph Curry does have one knock for Jared Allen is the one that I just mentioned he does not space the floor but the Golden State Warriors are a unique team because you have Steph Curry we’ll see what happens with Klay Thompson and let’s say that you bring both of those players back Steph obviously going to be with this team Klay Thompson comes back in free agency he signs an extension you’re not worried as much about the floor spacing as you might be if you didn’t have players who were floor spacers Jared Allen can really hold it down on the low block the other thing that I like like about Jared Allen for what he gives you he’s also very affordable and he’s under contract the next two years so you have a little bit of Team control here that you can use at your disposal 2024 2025 $20 million and then $20 million even for the following year with that I bring on the homie the real one the legend producer Smitty his take on Jared Allen here you kind of don’t look at it as a negative move right no I I think this is a total positive he’s got more positives than negatives to his game you know you want your big to be able to space the floor but like you mentioned with Derek Lively and Gafford and the like it’s not the end all Beall in today’s NBA you kind of see a little bit of a Renaissance with the non floor spacing bigs out there and and he can be a mentor to trace Jackson Davis I mean I feel like Trace Jackson Davis is kind of what you uh you envision for Jared like you want Trace Jackson Davis to become Jared Allen in this scenario and he’s a reliable lob threat and he’s a backline Defender like we’ve been pressing the issue the Warriors need they they need Rim protection they need size down low and they need somebody who can go in and affect shots and create turnovers and possessions on offense you said something that I really like there this Renaissance of some of these old school bigs I think it’s important still for Bigs to be able to shoot the basketball but we have seen a little bit of a shift here from that spread the floor Fast Pace check up three era to now these teams in increasingly are becoming more and more physical and we’ve seen these bigs be able to be on the floor late in games look at what the Timberwolves have done I didn’t think the Twin Towers were going to move uh were going to work Carl Anthony towns Rudy goar it’s worked Daniel Gafford has helped take the Mavs to another level he’s not going to shoot the basketball at all he is that classic lob threat that good leaper that good dunker he’s really come alive it depends on the rest of the Personnel on that let’s disect that let’s break it down let’s take a look at it producer Smitty putting this one together the Warriors receive Jared Allen and Dean Wade the Cavaliers get in return Andrew Wiggins Moses Moody and a 2026 first round pick which is top five protected so if the Warriors do flame out 2026 they’re awful it’s top five protected that gives you a little bit of insurance there why the Warriors would make this move because parting ways with a first Moody Wiggins it’s a good package for Cleveland to get in return but this makes potentially Golden State a better team on both ends especially around the rim you gain a reliable Rim protecting option you add perimeter shooting at the forward spot with Dean Wade that can certainly help you and then it gives more responsibility to Brandon psky who I thought all things considered impressed last year as a rookie so you lose Moses Moody and then you give more run to Brandon pod jsky who can shoot create a little bit for himself and his teammates good Defender as well you can see why it could make sense for Golden State why the Cavs would make this move they have been linked to Andrew Wiggins on a couple of occasions in 2022 and in 2024 they originally drafted him way back in the day young lowcost guard with untapped potential in Moses Moody is what you also get back and let’s say that you move off of one of Donovan Mitchell or Darius Garland you get Moses Moody back who’s not going to require the basketball as much as one of those players which makes him fit alongside one of those guards he can start he can come in Off the Bench I still think he has untap potential and then you add pixon as a possible fire sale summer so would you make this trade a for accept D for decline I think this helps both teams out here and that’s why it makes sense for both clubs to at least explore this for Smitty it’s a no-brainer but why I I I think you when you look at the Warriors assets yeah they they have young Talent available that isn’t particularly in line with Steph Curry’s timeline to win right now um you yes I know Warriors fans love Moody they love kaminga and obviously you’re keeping kaminga in this scenario uh and that helps a lot for the development of him not having Andrew Wiggins in town anymore you keep most of your draft Capital that you still have around and you still keep other assets like what what if what if a Jimmy Butler trade comes about and and they ask for kaminga you still have kaminga on the roster to be able to make a deal like that happen and which should be a big summer we don’t know what’s going to happen with Klay Thompson we don’t know what’s going to happen with Chris Paul and whether they whether or not they guarantee that money I would think they don’t so they don’t so don’t stay a second apron tax team next season I I think this is a no-brainer you’re addressing a need you’re not giving up too much in return and you’re letting one of your young players like Jonathan more draft workouts this coming from doton Johnson the six players the Warriors are hosting for pre-draft workouts tomorrow Jaylen Bridges out of Baylor Brandon Carlson out of Utah Allan Flanigan ol Miss DJ horn NC State Oso igodo atam Marquette Langston Terry very very little information out there about Langston Terry but we do have some information on a player like OSU igodo he might be the number one draft Target available when the Warriors are on the board with the 52nd overall pick and why is that I like what he did at Marquette and you know what’s funny he reminds me a lot of Trace Jackson Davis with the body type with how he moves with the game he’s not a shooter but from 10 feet and in he kind of has that AA hartenstein little push shot which worked out very effectively for him throughout the NBA Playoffs 13.4 points per game he’s a very Active Athlete and rebounder not a bad distributor and then you look at the Steals and blocks per game 1.1 steals 1.3 blocks so he’s contributing to a little more than two turnovers per game and then 57 a half% from the field of course this would be an option if you were going to rule out a Jared Allen trade because then you’re a little bit clogged in that front Court the scouting report on him Elite passer for that 69 frame especially from that high post kind of looking at those back door Cuts we know that’s a staple to Steve Ker’s offensive system processes the game at an elite level that’s why he could be in line for the Warriors here versatile Defender who can force a lot of turnovers good screener who knows how to create space not a top end athlete but a long athlete who I think is an athlete again who reminds me of Trace Jackson Davis he’s not going to jump out of the roof but Trace Jackson Davis actually surprised some people like he got up and he threw down some posterizing hammers this past year as a rookie the Pro Comp to which is funny is Draymond Green you know glue guy potential smart and heady player knows his role is not going to go outside of that role and producer Smitty if you didn’t know now you know a sucker for Big East tubes I am as well because when I was growing up in the Philadelphia area Villanova in the Big East the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden in the peak era of the Big East was great you had Villanova Syracuse Georgetown you had those great pit teams from way back in the day I mean we could go on and on and on talking about Big East history but my goodness the Big East was awesome way back in the day when MSG was absolutely popping what
