Interesting perimeter defense metric on Twitter

Curious to hear everyone’s(rational) thoughts? Jazz were far and away the worse perimeter defensive team in the league this year, that shouldn’t be a huge surprise necessarily.

Keyonte was abysmal. I’ve seen lots of jazz fans rush to defend Keyonte defense this year but this personally matches my eye test, Keyonte was lazy and didn’t hustle at all. Which imo is very bad for a rookie to act like he’s already made it.

Are we worried about Hardy ? Players didn’t seem to play very hard for him imo, this matches up with that narrative quite robustly. I’m sure there are gonna be people(homers) who defend him saying the players say they like him in interviews but the proof is in tbe pudding and it seems like we had the laziest perimeter defense which imo is not a ringing endorsement of a coach. Even though I also acknowledge that non of our personnel are noted defenders.

  2. So bad we get our own hue.

Call me a homer but I am not really placing this on Hardy. In back to back seasons he has had rag tag lineups buying in to the ASB and playing .500 basketball. Especially our start last season was won entirely on effort. Getting kneecapped at the deadline two seasons in a row does a number on a team’s psyche. Plus, no coach could get a backcourt core of Clarkson/Sexton/George to be even close to league average on defense, even with some Kris Dunn sprinkled in.

I think Hardy is a good coach and it’s more reflective of how bad the teams talent level is

I’m going to say I don’t believe Hardy can be blamed too much for a lot of it. We had a really good defensive stretch mid season when fontecchio was showing out and then traded away those guys. Hardy also had this team playing very hard 2 seasons ago when we were also in the same position and that’s how we kind of round Dunn.

Keyontes effort was a bit concerning but I’m willing to hold full judgement to when he’s had a full off season to condition and him not having to be the only offense on the team l.

The Jazz are a clear case of bad by design. Kinda silly to blame the coach when he’s had the team on track for the playoffs 2 years in a row before the good players get traded/benched at the deadline.
