Miami Heat Free Agency Rumors On Caleb Martin, Delon Wright, Thomas Bryant & Patty Mills

it is May 31st if you didn’t know and what does that mean well it’s our last chance to make up ground in our May sub battle as it is the last day of the month we’re currently trailing by 43 subscribers to 76ers now they beat us in the play in they can’t beat us in the May sub battle as well so help me out and hit that sub button all right I’m Nick rolloff this is the Heat report by chat sports we’re talking Heat free agency rumors today we haven’t discussed these that much we focused on trades and draft but the heat do have four impending free agents and this is not even including Kevin Love by the way that we do need to talk about Caleb Martin has a player option Delon Wright and Patty Mills are both unrestricted free agents and then Thomas Bryant also has a player option we have some interesting notes on them we’ll start with Caleb Martin because he’s probably the most well-known and high-profile free agent that Miami has he has a $7.1 million player option this upcoming season and I doubt that he is going to opt in because there are rumors out there he can get close to 13 million on an annual average salary but Caleb does want to stay in Miami at least that’s what he said he said that everybody knows I want to be here I make that known that’s my goal is to be able to stay here make it work I want to be here as long as possible and for them to want me to come back that is my main goal now I’ll say this though I don’t think it’s feasible and we’ve talked about this at length on the channel about how it’s just unlikely for the heat to bring him back unless they are able to get under the first apron of the tax because if they were to give him a 10 11 million contract which even that would be a discount it would just put them over the second apron and they’re not going to give themselves those limitations the second apron gives you for Caleb Martin so it would have to be $5 million less than what Caleb could get on the open Market which would be the player option which Caleb’s not going to opt into that and it stinks because I would like to keep him he had another solid year for Miami in 2324 was consistent in playing 64 games averaged 10 a night the shooting numbers dipped a little bit in terms of efficiency but the volume went up Caleb is a frustrating player at times because he makes some interesting decisions on the basketball court when it comes to shot selection and turnovers but there is no doubt that he is one of the better playoff risers that Miami has had and you saw it in the playoff finals run that happened a year ago if the heat did want to keep Caleb Martin they would need to shed salary and yes he is someone that is valuable to this Heat roster but because of that first apron and second apron tax where they’re only $56 million away from the second apron if they gave Caleb 10 plus million a season that would put them over the second aprim which would just put way too many limitations on the Miami Heat to make other roster moves mov And Trades so Pat Riley he knows that and he is not going to give Caleb Martin 10 plus million in free agency because he’s going to go over the second apron so that takes me to this will Caleb Martin leave in free agency I think it’s all but likely in kind of like 98% I just don’t see a way he would sign a long-term deal with Miami making only $7 million a year so Type L for leave or type S for stay let’s shift over to Delan right now now because he is also an unrestricted free agent and he is someone that I thought played pretty well down the stretch for Miami I want d right back in the 305 because after signing with the heat over the February All-Star break he was terrific and terrific might be a strong word but for what you’re getting on the buyout Market I liked it he is a good Defender and he fits really well in the Heat’s defensive scheme especially at the top of that zone with his lengthy arm arms and just IQ to jump the passing lanes and if he’s able to be in the offseason for Miami in training camp and get a full workout in the heat staff and developmental system I would expect his three-point jumper to increase and that’s the biggest question but he would be a great vet Min signing for Miami to add to this Heat Depth and roster I mean he was solid last year man 5.4 points a game in 14 games played yes the efficiency isn’t there and he’s not the best best offensive guy but I do think in a pinch he could be your primary backup point guard I really do believe that and he was able to do a lot of nice things not only in the regular season but in the playoffs as well obviously the heat lost four out of five games to the Boston Celtics but he was playing a big part in those games he played in four out of those five games remember he missed uh I believe it was game three or game four I think it was game three because of the birth of his child so in the four games Delan Wright did play in that series he played 20 plus minutes in every game he shot 60% from the field yes limited but did shoot 60 from both three and from the field he also had seven assists four steals with zero turnovers he played a high brand of basketball for the Heat against the Celtics when they really needed anyone to go out there because of how many injuries they were facing and dlan is open to returning as well he said it was a fun experience for me over the past 2 months I’ve been here so I would definitely love to come back but it’s a business so you never know what the future holds I kind of mentioned this a little bit ago but it would only cost the vetman if you’re the Miami Heat at least that’s what I believe because he was a buyout player which means if you’re on the buyout Market you’re likely not playing good basketball and teams don’t really value that much so I wouldn’t expect his stock and price to rise after the 14 games he played for the heat so I think he would be available to sign for the absolute vet men and if Pat Riley deems him worth signing which I do I would expect to get this done because it feels like d Wright does want to return two more players that we have to talk about but make sure you get started with deposit match up to $100 pick more pick less it’s that easy uh let’s talk about Patty Mills now as he is also an unrestricted free agent not someone that was bought I guess he technically was on the buyout Market but it came a little bit later than the Delon Wright signing Mills was very shaky for the heat in his limited playing time but Patty Mills also expressed a desire to be at least open to returning he said very quickly I inherited everything that this organiz organization is about and felt every part of that so as hard as the adjustment was to get into everything at the end of the season and make a run I enjoyed every part of it I’ll tell you what Patty I didn’t enjoy every part of it sure there was a couple games where you did some nice things but this dude was horrific for the heat in his 13 games he sure sure he averaged more points than like a Delon Wright but his goal was also to Chuck up way more shots and be a threat from the three-point Arc but he didn’t really shoot that well from three he shot 20.8% from Beyond The Arc and he shot 33.8% from the field like he was unplayable but the heat had to play him because of how injury riddled they were Patty Mills it’s unfortunate but at age 35 he’s an undersized guard he can’t move laterally anymore he just gets absolutely babied by any other guard because they’re bigger they’re stronger they’re faster they just hunt him in switches you can’t play him defensively and the only way that you could have him on the floor is if he was shooting 40% from three in being an actual threat on the offensive end but as you just saw with the numbers Patty Mills was not doing that so there is no reason to bring Patty Mills back it would only cost a vet Min contract like dlan Wright but I am not bringing him back I would rather use that roster spot on like a Jamal Kane or alandis Williams who at least has upside for the future rather than a 36 y- Old Guard that is basically unplayable but out of the two unrestricted free agent guards the Miami have which one would you want to resign the most if it’s Delan Wright type DW if it’s Patty Mills type PM I do expect to see a lot of W’s or DWS down below though all right last player we’re going to talk about is Thomas Bryant the center who has a $2.8 million player option and is this a little harsh to say but I’m hoping he declines like Thomas Bryant wasn’t that good for the heat in 2023 24 and he was expected to be Bam’s backup but it end up being Kevin Love because of how ineffective Thomas Bryant was he was a offensive-minded backup center not the most defensively inclined but he struggled on offense only averaging five and a half a game shooting 57% from the field which is fine but for some reason and if you watch the watch parties throughout the year with me you would know how much this pissed me off 18. 2% from three yet he thought he had a green light from Beyond The Arc he was launching them and he was never making them it made no sense that Thomas Bryant could pull some of the shots he was pulling he was a disappointment Thomas Bryant was not good for the heat that’s the only way you can at least summarize his one-year tenure with Miami you brought him in on a one plus one deal that was cheap to see if you had something the Rochester New York native has had success in the past on the offensive side and they were were hoping getting him in this heat staff and system would allow him to be better on the defensive side of the floor but he couldn’t move his feet he struggled getting rebounds and overall he just was not an adequate backup center to Bam and a bio which forced an older Kevin Love who wasn’t expected to have that large of a role this year to be your primary backup center Thomas Bryant was a major disappointment for the Miami Heaton 2324 and I would not want to bring him back but he does have a player option but this lead Le us to the Quest for a backup center and it just continues man ever since bab bio became the starting center for Miami in 20192020 we have not had a good backup center Myers Leonard oh boy B or I almost said bismach bio might as well play for like bismach biombo Dwayne deadmond goodness gracious now Thomas Bryant like we just have simply never had a good backup center under bam and a bio it’s time to change that can we find one free agency can we find one in the free agent Market either way one of the biggest needs for the heat is a center that can play along longside bam if need be but also be the primary backup because centers we’ve been working with over the past four seasons have just been an absolute disaster all right I’ll do it for today’s video make sure you follow me over at Twitter Nick rolloff I am talking Heat basketball every day if you have a question surrounding Miami you can also hit me up over there so give me a follow I’ll see you tomorrow with another video go Heat [Music]

The Miami Heat don’t have a lot of money to spend in NBA Free Agency due to Miami being above the First Apron of NBA Luxury Tax by $5 MM and under the 2nd Aprons by another $6 MM. This will limit the money Heat president Pat Riley can spend on NBA Free Agents, including the Heat’s impending free agents. Heat Report host Nic Rohloff has the latest Heat free agency rumors on Caleb Martin, Delon Wright, Thomas Bryant, and Patty Mills! Mills and Wright are unrestricted free agents while both Bryant and Martin have a player option!

Caleb Martin is projected to earn a contract in 2024 NBA Free Agency worth $13 MM a season. This would mean that Caleb Martin is all but certain to opt out of his $7.1 MM player option with the Heat for the 2024-25 season. Thomas Bryant’s player option is worth $2.8 MM and it is uncertain if he will go into free agency or return to the Miami Heat roster.

Caleb Martin on his free agency:
“Everybody knows I want to be here. I make that known. That’s my goal is to be able to stay here, make it work. I want to be here as long as possible and for them to want me to come back. That’s my main goal.”
