We need to talk about Ed

For many professional sport franchises, continued success year-over-year can be directly attributed to strong, agile, often innovative management groups. But, what about owners? How much do they help or hinder the success of a franchise?

When a team wins, the ownership group is seen as a positive supportive factor. When losing seasons pile up, they can be a lead weight holding the team, and it's fortunes, down.

This brings us to Ed. Ed Rogers. I can't quite figure out why fans are not shining a harsher light on the people who actually reside at the top of the MLSE food chain. There's no one who is more beholden to the franchise's laser focus on profitability over performance than ol' Ed.

And, we're worse off for it.

  1. Dunno, Masai does not appear to be handcuffed. As much as I love Masai, he clearly believed a little too much in his team and fumbled roster construction/asset management, which he has admitted to. He made some mistakes, but hopefully has learned from them.

I know there was some chatter that Ed Rogers didnt want a tank after the covid pandemic shut down. The rumor was that they’d already lost a full season of revenue and the top execs told management that they did want lose anymore money with a full tank season/s. I dont know how much I believed this though.

All you need to know is he didn’t wanna pay up the money for Masai immediately after he won a title. Larry was able to step in tho as majority owner, which has now changed.

Say what you want about what masai has done with the team since, but if he ever leaves or is fired you think Ed is paying up for a quality replacement?

  4. Maybe it’s because even with all the recent losses we are still top 5 in wins, with a championship, over the last decade? That feels like very successful ownership to me.

  5. Well I’m perfectly functional, thank you very much, not that it’s any of your business!
