Things Aren’t Looking Good for Karl-Anthony Towns

think about all the playoff wins Jason Tatum has had six Conference Finals in eight years the finals against the most popular team in the world the Golden State Warriors Anthony Edwards is already a bigger star after one playoff run dancing on the court like MJ and Kobe to beat the defending champs postgame quotes just begging to be on a t-shirt I have not been in Minnesota in probably 20 years bring gas even Charles Barkley respects this kid Trash Talk game antt is clearly the future face of the NBA but right now is Lucas time he had the moment of the series with the gamewinner over Rudy goar nobody loved that more than Draymond Green but there’s a bigger problem than even Luca for the Timberwolves an anonymous NBA exec told ESPN only dysfunctional ownership could break this team up which unfortunately is exactly what they have you may have heard about a potential Carl Anthony towns trade well there is another huge casualty for this team that could take down everything but this shouldn’t be some negative Timberwolves narrative there were a huge success 56 wins second most in team history first playoff run in 20 years number one defense and beat the Nuggets especially in that game six I mean remember Denver went up 32 Timberwolves possibly eliminated but they came out and punched nuggets in the face held him to 70 points so what happened against Dallas well they exposed two huge problems first Luca solved that number one defense and the Wolves offense is just not good enough Rudy go bear is basically useless unless it’s an easy dunk at The Rim dude’s got more turnovers than a French Bakery and let’s be honest about ant he did go missing for long stretches like games 1 and two he averaged 20 points on 33% from the field that’s not good enough Luca is always there but an 22 that’s normal Michael Jordan lost in the Conference Finals twice before breaking through in year seven Kobe was swept by the Jazz air balls in his first Conference Finals dwade and Luca lost their first Conference Finals too but Carl Anthony towns doesn’t have that EXC use he is 28 years old in his prime the first three games against Dallas he shot three of 22 from three it got so bad TNT made fun of him with one of the greatest Graphics of all time yeah cat was great game seven against the Nuggets defending nicolea yic but wasn’t it classic cat really good than a complete mess he was supposed to dominate smaller PJ Washington crash the boards instead he shot 38% in the Conference Finals a minus 16 plus minus benched for Nas Reed to close that game two with bad defense can you afford to pay a guy like that a super max turns out they can’t there have been rumors about how the Wolves cannot afford to keep cat but I want to break this thing down in detail so you understand because ant made all NBA his salary jumps to 42 million next year cat’s Superman Max kicks in 49 million goar makes 44 so just three players owed about 135 million adding the other seven guys on contract and fill out the roster it’s 2 200 million one of the most expensive teams in NBA history oh and it is the worst time ever to be that expensive the new CBA was designed to break up teams like the Timberwolves it makes signing new players or doing trades almost impossible future draft picks get Frozen and the luxury tax is insane with that salary the Wolves will owe an additional 75 million right out of the owner’s pocket and just look at his history of paying the tax from 94 when he bought the team to 2005 he paid about 23.5 million since then about 2 million now he’s going to Pony up 75 million in 1 year well that might be okay for Steve Balmer the 10th richest guy on the planet but Glen Taylor got rich from owning chicken farms he’s not some tech billionaire so the obvious odd man out is Carl Anthony towns cut his 49 million this all goes away and they’ve got Nas Reed who’s amazing this is too easy but what if somebody else owned the team Taylor planned to sell them to Mark Lori and Alex Rodriguez but canceled at the last minute when the money didn’t go through true now A-Rod says they had the money and he’s suing Glen Taylor for the franchise but do timberwolves fans even want that Adrian rinowski actually reported something that should scare everyone in document shared with Glenn Taylor and the NBA lorri and Rodriguez rendered a budget projection as potential majority owners that would have lowered the Timberwolves payroll to 171 million beginning next season below the projected luxury tax uh so 200 million to 171 how they going to do that trading Carl Anthony towns okay so what would that even look like well before we get to cat trades there’s one other huge issue the man who built this wolves team is Tim Connelly he famously flipped from the Denver Nuggets where he built a champion to the Wolves he then traded for Rudy goar signed key role players and made the Conference Finals great but Conley has an out in his contract where he can leave this summer he did it just in case this ownership thing became toxic so if this isn’t settled the Wolves could lose cat and their genius GM this is a disaster right when they get good and ant is going to be the face of the league dysfunction could tear them down but we have to talk about what they could get for Bad Kitty well the obvious team is the Knicks they have been linked to cat for years and he is represented by CAA who runs things in New York the deal would center around Julius Randall who makes 20 million less than cat the problem here is Tom Tibido who has a history with cat and it didn’t go well in Minnesota what about OKC Lou Dort was the only guy to slow down Luca in the playoffs and he’s much less expensive the is there is the thunder are going to need to pay all their young guys eventually would get expensive what about the heat they always love stars but cat and Jimmy Butler didn’t exactly get along the Sixers have cap space and they could take him right into it without sending players back which is great for Minnesota’s salary but they don’t have win now players to send so the number one rumor right now was floated by the ringer the Wizards get Carl Anthony towns the wolves get Kyle kozma and the number number two overall pick I know it sounds crazy for a win now team like the Wolves to get a rookie number two pick but that talented rookie would be cost controlled for 4 years which is exactly what they need plus they could get maybe a point guard to grow with ants like Reed Shepard to replace the Aging Mike Connelly that could pay off for years or they could get a Zachary Reese to improve their offense he can stretch the floor around ant and eventually be his offensive number two this actually isn’t as bad of an option as it might seem but you really need to understand the details of this ownership fight it’s going to play out in court this summer could take down the entire thing and how it actually got to this point is insane

The Timberwolves lost in 5 to the Dallas Mavericks and now a big offseason is ahead. There are many rumors about KAT being on the way out, but why? This is a look at those rumors and the difficult situation Minnesota finds itself in right now.

  1. Face of the league? Are you even watching basketball? Luka is only 25, did Jokic die? Ja will be back, Giannis is still a problem etc

  2. I would not want a-rod as my owner. Also it isn't really a step up when the new owner can barely afford it. Just gonna be another cheap owner.

  3. Good stuff was literally just looking at that KAT trade. Also check Rudy to Toronto (better French fanbase) for Poeltl if they want to keep KAT.

    I'd trade them both.

  4. Townes just need a good coach that will make him stop trying to be step curry and shoot all those brick 3s 😂😂😂 he’s tried to shoot 3s more than dunk the dam ball 🤷🏽‍♂️

  5. Luka 5x All NBA 1st team: Face of The League ✖️

Ant 1 good playoff run: Face of The League ✅

    More like Ja Morant 2.0

  6. Wizards would never make that pick. They aren’t trying to win now lmaoo they are in a multi year rebuild. Will have top picks for the next 5 years

  7. there 1 player away from making a great team but if they sell the wrong player that could mess them right up and back to square 1 i dont think selling kat is the answer i would keep kat and edwards and build around them

  8. There is no way the Wizards would give away the #2 pick, and certainly not for KAT. The Wizards are clearly still tanking, and KAT doesn't fit their timeline. The only teams I could see take a flyer on KAT are lottery teams that already have an established top guy and want to make a quick jump to playoff contention. The way I see it, the only team that really fits that bill is Charlotte, and they probably don't want him either.

  9. Minnesota's issue is they are saddled with two guys who are cost quite a bit more than they are worth (Towns & Gobert).

While, they compliment each other well. You'd like to get more on Offense from Gobert & Towns could play better defense & be more consistent.

Be nice if you get both for a combined 60 mil. Instead, of the 92 million they are owed next season.

  10. KAT is the Derrick Coleman of the NBA had potential to be great but instead prefers to play like an average role player.

  11. You said that this young edwards can win championship for wolves? What happen? You Talk too early just because they swept the suns ang win against denver..😂😂😂

  12. KAT makes $49M and Gobert makes $44M. Hmmm… if it were me having to get rid of someone from the team, I'd trade Gobert. KAT may be inconsistent at times on offense, but at least he isn't non-existent like Gobert. I saw KAT keeping his team in the game when everyone else was out of rhythm a couple of times in the Denver series. He has his place on that team. But Gobert – even his DPOY defense (we all know that Wemby had better numbers) isn't effective against top players like Luka or Joker, so he is a liability in playoffs. Also, KAT is not a superstar like AntMan is becoming. Expect all-star play, but not superstar play. He is still valuable alongside Ant. I don't follow the league personnel moves like this guy, so I may be missing something, but just my 2 cents. Plus Gobert is 3 years older than KAT.

  13. Why don't the Wolves start Naz and let Kat be a 6th man, if he would be willing. Then he could just come in and score – he'd be a great 6th man. Another problem is – Gobert has defense but almost 0 offense.

  14. It’s pathetic that people started hating ant over media takes they didn’t like. You can give home criticism while also giving credit for exceeding expectations this playoffs.

  15. Kat and Rudy not built to be ant teammates but rudy he winning dpoy so ig he more valuable rn

  16. Dude what an awesome video. That was a hell of a ride. I love the trajectory of minesota towards a washington deal. Which boss does the genius GM like more?

All the all time marketing greats (mj, kobe, lebron ended up in big market city. If LeBron is the blue print. Then Ant goes to big market that can win now. Does lebron have a no trade clause? Because Lakers might want to buy low on Ant right now, send LeBron to minesota and have his Bronny show there, and Hollywood money now has the new biggest face in basketball?

  17. Personally I don’t think you trade KAT if you can make the salary work. He’s your #2, and while Ant is the future of the NBA he’s not gonna be able to carry this team with how NBA rosters are built now.
