Joe Mazzulla on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving: “There is no stopping them. There’s defending them at a high level. We’re not here to stop those guys… they’re going to score.”

This why our offense is the most.importsnt part of the series. I think we need to have our best offensive series these playoffs. We 100% need to shoot threes at a way higher level than last series. I think Dallas is going to live and die with allowing us some open threes, and will absolutely clog the paint. Try to force Jaylen and JT to drive into bodies and turn it over.

Good answer. It’s true they are unstoppable. Best to limit other role players around them.
They could be the first duo to score 50 each and if we neutralize their role players it would result to a lose.

Luka terrifies me because not only is it impossible to stop him from scoring but it’s impossible to keep him from getting 10 assists too

Just out of curiosity, does no one care that Tatum / Brown together have pretty similar stats to Luka / Kyrie?

I’m glad about the answer, because I think the actual key to stopping them, or at least Doncic, is by not actually trying to stop them, but to stop the kick outs and lobs. He low key kinda sucka at finishing, so you don’t need to double him. He relies on mid range jumpers and kick outs when he drives toward the hoop, so collapsing like you normally would a number 1 guy is playing into his hand. Saw that so much in the Minnesota series.

Yep, and there’s no stopping Tatum and Brown. And at times there’s no stopping Holiday, White, or Porzingis

In my opinion, with zero basketball experience for what’s it’s worth, you “stop” Luka by making him play defense and making him hustle all game. I don’t think his conditioning is on par with the J’s so tire him out early and make him work every possession so he’s gassed in the 4th

Also, forcing Kyrie and Luka to defend JT or Brown will tire them out and make it less likely for them to go nuclear

This is key because if we are able to force Luka and Kyrie into difficult jumpers without help, the Mavs offense as a whole will be inefficient and we will win the series. But they both are going to have stretches where they get hot and start making those shots and going on runs.
The one thing we can’t do is panic and start trying to do more to stop them, because that’s when the role players get going and offense becomes easy for Dallas.

If Kyrie is consistent against us, I’ll just have to tip my cap. I think he’s going to have a few games, maybe even most, where he goes into hero mode and sucks. Luka and his lobs are the main issue
