Back in 2020, the Bulls tried to trade the fourth pick and Wendell Carter Jr. for the second pick, who eventually became James Wiseman.

Wendell Carter Jr. could have been a great addition in our championship lineup, and could have lessen the work load of Kevon Looney for the center position. On top of that, we could have used that 4th pick to draft an impactful player like Tyrese Haliburton or Deni Avdija. Crazy how things turned out. Bulls actually saved themselves from dealing with another draft failure.

Yeah…except that they took Patrick Williams 4th overall

So many red flags on Wiseman but the Warriors bit the apple.

Hindsight GM. One of the easiest jobs ever. Where do I apply?

Nobody thought wiseman would be as trash as he was

Just FYI, this trade was declined by the Bulls, not Warriors. Warriors wanted to make this trade, Chicago decided to stick with WCJ when Patrick Williams impressed in his pre-draft workout with them.

I tried to trade the 2nd pick to the Kings for the 11th pick and DeAaron Fox. Bob did not take my call.

I have always refused to believe that this report was true cuz Bob Myers was a good GM. Any GM with a brain would have done this deal. If it was real, it must have been rejected by Lacob or some shit.

We see how teams are dealing with the 2nd apron, but the 2nd apron was already a situation before it became a thing. Why? Because of how the luxury tax is structured. The luxury tax goes up in 5 mil increments. The thresholds are based on the cap, but this 5 mil number isn’t and it’s this increment that makes the tax so damn expensive. As the cap increases, staying x% above the cap was going to get exceedingly expensive. That 400 mil number that Lacob would throw out was going to get less and less.

The team was always going to need to build depth through the draft and two timelines was never a real thing. It ends when those rookies are up for extension. The obvious thing to do was draft for fit/floor and acknowledge that dudes are getting let go in 4 years, but at least you are getting some value during that time.

Wiseman’s “fit” was only theoretical. The actual tape showed he didn’t fit. I wasn’t a fan of LaMelo, but I always thought he fit better. I did want the trade back for Hali or Vassell and WCJ filled that big “need”. Though if I’m honest, I did think that was overblown and they only needed a regular season big to keep Dray healthy. I’ll always say that Chriss was good enough to be that guy lol.

    What a bust!!
Is this one of the warriors worst #2 picks ever?

I really would love to know

This is EXACTLY what I hoped we would do. And of course #4 could have been Haliburton.

    Sigh!

As a reminder, in the GM poll James wiseman was predicted to be the best player in the draft after 5 years. Lamelo was supposed to be the best player immediately (wiseman was #2) coming out of the draft. Deni was on no one’s radar but ours.

I hate the miss but i love the swing.

  12. What ever happened to Penny Hardaway, he was training and promoting Wiseman. Someone needs to ask him on what happened to James.

#GSW was offered the unprotected 2020 TWolves FRP instead of 2021 top-five protected from Minnesota in the Wiggins trade

There’s an alternative reality where we draft both Edwards and Wiseman.

I’m honestly not into hypotheticals but that is ACTUALLY the most interesting one.

They had Edwards one on the board; Bob confirmed that (despite the “Kerr dissed his work ethic stuff” that goes around on here)

I honestly think that if this happened it would have benefitted both teams. Wise would’ve had more playing time to develop and we would have gotten a ton of depth (with the rumor that we would have picked Tyrese). Who knows how injuries would have shaken out, I think a lot of us wanted this to happen but hindsight is 20/20 of course lmao

Aaah, explains why the Bulls are so petty towards the Warriors in trade discussions around Caruso.

  16. Noiserawker

I thought that was more a rumor than solid fact? Yeah trading down woulda been the play in that case, especially because big men take awhile to develop.

  17. we_hella_believe

James Wiseman probably would have gotten more time on the court and would have developed into a decent player.
