Retiring his jersey would be so wrong. It can’t happen IMO.

Dude played 22 seasons in the NBA and approximately 7 with the Raptors. What is that? Approximately 30% of his total career??
I was around when Vince Carter was on the Raptors. It was my first go around as SSH. I watched most of his home games. He was electrifying but also frustrating. He completely “mailed in” his last 2 seasons even when he was healthy (anybody remember-when he proclaimed he wasn’t in game dunking anymore? -that was till he got to the Nets or when he basically told the media he doesn’t practice hard-because he doesn’t have to work on his game?).
After he was traded, every time he returned to Toronto as a Net (or as a part of any other team), he acted like a girlfriend scorned. Creating drama with the fans, ex team mates (remember when he had MoPete thrown out of a game?) and media.
I think he should be honoured in some way. But I’m against having his number retired. If the Raptors are going to retire #15 it should be for Amir Johnson. That man gave up his body for this team. He played games through injury which shortened his NBA career.

Coaches and management should have bowed to his every wishes. ALL that should have mattered was keeping the Toronto jersey on him. Instead, there was drama, he left us, and is now getting his jersey retired in New Jersey instead of TO. An all-time Toronto fumble. Learn from it and move on! Keep stars happy!

I know this thread is about Vince, but Babcock should never have been brought in. He is at least part to blame for the whole fiasco.

good for VC, glad he put himself first. i appreciate that while he was here he was a huge influence on the fanbase. but when he says something like that he’s severing his ties, again good for him, but we owe him nothing more. retiring his number feels more like we’re doing it for ourselves. we don’t need to do that .
