Is Kai Sotto Joining The Golden State Warriors??

Is Kai Sotto Joining The Golden State Warriors??

what if we tell you that the Golden State Warriors could be adding a capable seven footer to their roster to add more size and Soo another chance in a well there are reports that Kai SoDo a rare Filipino giant could actually be making his way to the Golden State Warrior soon standing more than 7t tall and with his shooting skills that are rare for a man is size stto might be the perfect fit for a Warriors team that’s looking to add size and shooting to its front line then again while Filipino fans are excited about the possibility of seeing the most talented Filipino basketball player joining the NBA ranks they may have to wait a few more years to see this happening while it may look like kaoto has the size and skills of an NBA level big man let’s look at why he may or may not be joining the Golden State Warriors soon the NBA right now is on a quest to find talented unicorns standing 7 feet tall but are skilled enough to space the floor these players are rare because we all know that seven-footers would rather stay in the paint to post up dunk rebound and block shots Kai sto looked like he was about to become one of the next unicorns in the NBA born and raised in the Philippines SoDo is a rarity among Filipinos it’s incredibly rare to find tall Filipinos born and raised to pure-blooded Filipino parents in most cases you’d only see Filipinos close to 7 ft tall when one of their parents isn’t Filipino but when SoDo started out growing basically everyone in his home country and dominated the Philippines High School ranks making it to the NBA looked really realistic there has never been a pure-blooded Filipino born and raised in the Philippines making his way to the NBA of course the likes of Jaylen green and Jordan Clarkson have Filipino Roots but they have American genes and were mostly raised in the US meanwhile it’s been a struggle for the Philippines to produce NBA level Talent despite the fact that basketball is basically the only sport Filipinos are crazy about it’s odd that a basketball crazy Nation hasn’t been able to produce an NBA level talent but we can’t blame genetics for that Filipinos may be hardworking people but they’re not the most physically gifted guys they’re not really tall or athletic they struggle to match up with bigger stronger and more explosive players on the international stage but Kai SoDo who grew up to become more than 7 fet tall and is somewhere close to 7’2 in was the perfect candidate for a homegrown Filipino NBA player yes he’s tall but he’s not a lumbering giant who lacks skill he’s shown the ability to move well for his size and shoot jumpers from the three-point line in many ways he’s the type of seven-footer most teams today look for still stto went undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft forcing the seven-footer to move to Japan to play for the B- League where he averaged 8.9 points six rebounds and 1.3 blocks those are not bad numbers but anyone who wants to get to the NBA should be dominating in Japan a country not known for producing the best basketball talents but while stto was enjoying a productive time in Japan reports in April 2024 hinted at the possibility that the Golden State Warriors were interested in the young Filipino 7-footer at first it made sense the Golden State Warriors lack size with no true seven-footer in the lineup during the 2023 24 season their tallest player was Dario cak at 6’10 but he’s not even a true Center because he would rather shoot from the perimeter their only players who play the modern Center position are Kevin Looney and Trace Jackson Davis but they’re only 6’9 and are not really skilled they’re mostly rebounders and rim Runners who struggle to score from the post or the perimeter Golden State needed a true big man during the 2023 24 season as teams with bigger front lines manhandled them on both ends so it made sense for a team to go looking for a capable player standing over 7 ft tall after all stto has the height and length of a true NBA Center and the perimeter shooting skills that could blend well with the team’s pace and space style at his size he could also run to the rim and finish passes from Draymond Green and Stephen Curry especially if the shooters are getting most of the attention from opposing defenses what also made sense is the fact that the Bay Area is full of Filipinos the San Francisco area is second only to the Los Angeles area in terms of Filipino concentration in the US moreover the Warriors celebrate Filipino Heritage night to honor the Filipinos living in the Bay Area and among all of the Asian migrants living in that region the Filipinos are the biggest basketball fans so if if the Warriors added a homegrown Filipino to their roster that would send the Filipino fans in California into a frenzy jersey sales would be flying through the roof and more Filipino fans would be storming to Arenas all over the country to support their countrymen no matter where you go Filipinos are the most intense basketball fans even though they’re not really the best basketball players by any metric what that means is that more Filipinos would be supporting the Warriors allowing this team to make more money from Jersey in ticket sales but while Filipinos got their hopes up when they thought that kaoto was going to the Warriors there was never any truth to that rumor at all no one ever confirmed that the warriors were giving stto a shot even though the only team that would have been crazy enough to sign him to an NBA contract was the Warriors so let’s get this straight kaoto isn’t an NBA level Talent player yet there’s a reason why despite standing over 7 ft tall he wasn’t drafted in 2022 stto is reportedly 7′ 3 in but that’s all there is to it from a physical standpoint he’s shown good coordination at his height but he’s not the most mobile or most athletic 7-footer other centers shorter than him can outrun out jump or even outow him in fact in Japan and other International tournaments he struggles against shorter but more athletic players who aren’t even good enough to get to the NBA he’s not even great at finishing inside the paint a player of his size should be shooting 60% from the field against the shorter competition in Japan but that wasn’t the case case for stto at all even though he’s supposedly good enough to handle and shoot the ball at his height he’s not the most consistent or the most skilled player at the center spot there are plenty of seven-footers who can also shoot from the outside but are much more athletic and mobile than stto one case in point is B bu while fans got excited about Bull’s ability to dribble and shoot the ball at 7’3 he struggled to find consistent minutes in the NBA he rotted on Denver’s bench for three seasons and he’s yet to prove himself as a member of the Phoenix son that’s because as skilled as he may be at his height he doesn’t have the strength and Mobility to match up with other seven-footers in the NBA he’s going to be barbecu chicken for some of the more talented big men in the league the same can be said about SoDo while his frame is bigger than bows he’s not as mobile or as skilled he doesn’t have the same ball handling skills and consistent shooting touch he also struggles to keep himself in front of faster players or bang bodies with other centers in the paint stto is basically a slower and less consistent Filipino version of b b if B struggled to find minutes in the league stto was surely going to struggle the same way guards would hunt him in pick and roll situations meanwhile the likes of embiid and yic would eat him up inside the paint then again you can’t teach height and Soto has a ton of it sure he’s never going to be half as good as Victor wanyama ched hongren or Chris Taps porzingis but he can still be productive as a player who can give spot minutes from time to time because of his height out of all the teams that could have found a use for stto the Warriors organization was the perfect candidate because any seven-footer that can space the floor or finish baskets in the paint would have fit right into this team system but because we know that there was never any confirmed report that stto was going to take his talents to the Bay Area it looks like Filipino fans would have to wait longer until they can finally cheer on a homegrown Filipino NBA player
