I do think the 31st pick is an interesting place to be in terms of trades… with a whole day to think about it, maybe some front offices talk themselves into the idea there’s a guy there at 31 who they absolutely need.

2013: Masai infamously tried to get Giannis via a trade with the Thunder (The deal if I recall hinged on whether Steve Adams was on the board who OKC selected 12th)
2018: Masai tried to get back in to the 2018 draft in order to select SGA (Hornets selected him and traded him to LAC because it’s the Hornets)
2021: Masai tried to trade up to select Evan Mobley 3rd overall; Mobley himself told the Cavs not to select him but he went there all the same. The Raptors selected the Rookie of the Year and future All-Star Scottie Barnes.
2023: Something something Siakam to the Blazers. There were also some rumors about them trading with the Hornets for the 2nd pick though it’s up in the air who they’d choose i.e. Amen, Scoot or Brandon.
