Dillon Jones Media Availability | Portland Trail Blazers Pre-Draft Workout
hi how did it today go for you I thought it went good um you know it was a good environment it was a good energy in the gym from the coaches and stuff so um I thought it went good um I was able to Showcase what I can do and um what I can bring to a team like this so I thought it was good what are those things that you want to showcase that you were able to today my versatility um you know I can play any spot on the floor that I’m ma but um I think one thing I wanted to display was my passing ability um being able to make plays for other players especially on a team like this if I’m gracious enough to play here you know a lot of good scores and you know Shaden an scoo and whoever else Jeremy so you know you got to be able to be a good passer for those guys so I just wanted to show that and um also show my ability to guard and shoot the ball you know I think people may that may be one of the questions about me in this draft but I just want to show that I can shoot the ball and I think I did that really well today when did you kind of decide like that passing could be one of your I know your skills that maybe is underutilized some guys don’t like think about that as much was there a time that you realized that would be something that would be beneficial for you yeah I think growing up watching my brother um when he was playing up growing up he was kind of like a table setter for everybody so when I watched him play you know I seen how he was able to elevate his teammates play by just the way he passed the ball and set them up and putting them in positions being a point guard so um I knew at that point that that should be something that I should probably take from him and put in my game and um I think it’s helped me in college and it’s going to help me in the NBA can you tell me a little bit more about your brother and how much he’s like had an impact on what you’re doing yeah he’s had a big impact you know he still played professionally just finished in Italy um you know growing up watching his path um it’s it’s very easy for me to go on the path that I’m going on you know he’s been in the numerous of stops you know terrible spots internationally and uh I think it just shows the the real love for the game that he has and uh for somebody like me chasing what I’m trying to chase you know it was good to see that you know and see that hunger and see that energy growing up so um It’s Been instrumental and um I wouldn’t be here without him what has he said to you sorry sorry to interrupt what has he said to you like when you’re going through this process what are like some things he said to you um just have fun with it um you know treat everything like an opportunity and not an obligation um I think that’s the biggest thing he told me just because you know just like him and you know wanting to be in these environments and you know other people like he’s overseas he sees a lot of people that would scrap and claic be in these environments you know and I’m gracious enough to be in a position of be in these facilities be in these gyms meeting these people so you know just treat it like an opportunity you know when you were younger going through this you when you was younger you thought you would be here you would think it was the best thing in the world you know so now that it’s here don’t think it’s tiring because you’re going from flight to flight and things like that just continue to have that mindset when you was a kid and just treated it like the greatest opportunity in the world when you talk about potentially coming here and you named some of them there are a lot of guards on this team that are you know going to get a lot of mens you how how would you feel about coming to a situation where there is a lot of depth at that position and there might not be an opportunity for you right away I think you just got to be the ultimate professional I think that’s where I stand out in a on a team like like this um you just got to be able to stay ready um I don’t think you be selfish you know you cheer those guys on you be thankful for them cuz obviously all on the same team but at the same time you just got to be ready for opportunity whenever it comes just stay gracious uh stay ready I’m I’m going just keep saying that that’s the main thing in it you just got to stay ready and uh just be a selfless player if I’m being honest cuz it’s going to be times where you might not play for 20 games you know them are the moments that’s going to show who you really are as a player and pro and um you know when you get that opportunity you got to ready to play so you one of the more prolific players in college how do you take and show even though it’s we were obviously D was able to do it that kind of production translates the league that you can score that you can facilitate that you can rebound despite size or whatever questions that kind of come up during the draft process how do you kind of balance that production versus what expectations are for you I think you just got to have real internal confidence on who you think you are you can’t have your confidence based on what other people people say about you it’s got to be from within you know the work you put in and things like that cuz wherever School you at if you put in the work it and you think you’re that good of a player you will always be able to show it um now the truth is when you get in these environments like the workouts the combine or whatever you just got to be able to put on display what you have already done which I did the past two years in the combine you know what I did what I’m doing in all these workouts and things like that and um yeah and I think my process actually is kind of like different cuz i’ I’ve played in combine twice now I played in Elite camp and two NBA so I played in like three events like that where it’s I guess public games against higher level competition than I had at school and I think I excelled in all of them so um I think those are the moments you got to kind of cash in and show people you know so as a Weber guy any thoughts coming here given the legend that youed to yeah you know I actually was like you know coming here I thought like uh is like he allowed here you know just because like he’s an active player but like he’s such a legend here so I just didn’t know like if like if he just pulled up with like people like just allow him to be in here and things like that but um you know it’s it’s obviously dope being here seeing him you know being a great player here that he was um you know as I’ve grown up and you know went to Weber and watched a bunch of those games um you know I’ve watched more Trailblazers games as of recent than probably any other NBA team partly because of him and I went to high school with Shay and sharp so um watched a lot of Trailblazers games because of that so it’s actually like kind of weird that I’m like here but like yeah and I played in the Portland I played for the Portland generals here in the Nike hoop Summit another like another like odd like thing here I don’t know like I got too many connections to this gym so it’s kind of weird some Intel on Shaden because he doesn’t talk much I know he doesn’t talk uh hardworking guy um you know super talented super gifted um you know when he was a sophomore at Sunrise Christian with me I played as I was a senior he a sophomore no offers no rankings nothing but like we always knew he would be in the NBA like you could just tell like when he walked in the gym like how he played um just like his I don’t know what it is his Aura like you could just tell he’s an NBA player now you know when I seen him for his pre-draft and the leap I seen him take with handling the ball his shot creation and things like that he’s already athletic you know as the one of the most better athletes in the league so when I seen him like add what he haded on the bounce and things like that I think the sky is a limit for him you know I think he could be like one of the greats if you ask me I think he has that like natural ability and he works hard and um I think he’ll get there all right thank you guys you’re going to be just fine I got you appreciate y’all
