Sixers arena in Center city? Good idea or bad idea?

So, it’s official. They’ve put a billboard up displaying what the future arena could look like. It seems the city is in agreement with the development of a new arena downtown. Do yall think this will be good for the city?

I dislike it because the current setup with all four in the same area and how unique that is. However if they were to move one I’d rather it be the Phillies so they could have a setup like the Red Sox’s or Yankees. I think this will eventually grow on the fan base though, WFC is the least notable.

Good because it’ll be easier for Knicks fans to come invade the arena via Amtrak

I would love a baketball only arena but I don’t love the idea of it in Center City unless it is mixed use with store fronts that aren’t only open on game days.

I’m part of the group that thinks it will be really bad for Chinatown, so I dislike it.

Great for Josh Harris, not so much for the rest of us.

There’s no reason for it, other than as an ego project for a billionaire who has no ties here, and wouldn’t care less about screwing the city and citizens for his own personal benefit.

Only good if they build it in the fashion district and I mean literally in the mall

It’s a bad idea in the sense that the city already has a modern functioning arena that can host basketball games. I understand the revenue and ownership conflicts, but building a new arena is still a waste of someone’s resources.

Ignoring that, if you’re going to have an arena that’ll get used 100+ times a year, it’s better to locate it in center city. It’s worse for NJ commuter fans (I am one) but better for the city in general.

You could’ve at least blocked out my license plate

    Terrible idea.

I’ve lived in cities where the downtown has the arenas, they make everything so much more congested with traffic and people when it’s unnecessary.

Philly’s set up is perfect, keep that stuff way out of the way (for most of the city at least)

  11. Great idea. Can help unfuck the car centric bullshit that’s been shoved down the throat of a ~350y/o city. Fuck the end of game traffic jam and all its drunk drivers.

Fantastic idea. That area of Market is a dead zone and a dump. Bring new development. A billion dollar private investment can’t be turned down with the city where it is.

All the whining about traffic and parking is classic Philadelphia 2nd rate mindset

I like it. That area of Market East is severely underused and the traffic issue is overblown. It’s 41 home games per year plus another 4-8 home games depending on whether we lose in the first or second round.

We have a sports complex. Let’s keep the sports teams where the sports complex is.

It’s not gonna happen. Just like the Phillies stadium didn’t happen. Just like the Disney thing didn’t happen. It’s dumb and the city will never agree to it.

Anyone who’s ever driven a car in center city and/or a game at the stadiums can understand why this would be awful

Wells Fargo is a pain in the ass to get to imo so would be better if it’s privately funded.

  17. Ill never vote anything that will help CURRENT 6ers ownership.. Sorry f them

  18. Having been to the Wizards arena which is what this should be modeled after I can see being great but I get the concerns of China town residents and business owners

Madison Square Gardens is probably in the worst area in Manhattan in terms of problems and they make it work.

  20. HotdogsForDinner

Bad idea. No one needs this. Traffic will be a nightmare.

    Amazing idea.

I go to other cities where the sports venues are actually, ya know, in the city proper and not stashed in a giant parking lot south of the city, and it’s so much fun.

I hate having to leave the city, get to the sports complex, and fight your way out of there. It’s either insane traffic or massive train congestion (although that’s gotten better in the last year imo).

I think it would be so cool to get out of a game and just be in town already.

  22. MumenriderPaulReed69

Good! I can’t wait to take the train right up to the game on a week night.

    It’ll ruin Chinatown.

    It’s completely unnecessary.

I’d prefer it. Center city is easy access.
