Lakers Worked Out Several Draft Prospects

Lakers Worked Out Several Draft Prospects

what’s going on everyone so the Lakers scouting department has officially began to work and the Lakers are in the process of beginning to work out multiple players uh particularly for that 55th pick um so the Lakers have yet to really work anyone out uh that would land in that 17 range which I think is very interesting um but we did get a first wave of workout ease and so I wanted to talk about him dive into a little bit of them and let’s jump right into it starting with Tyler Thomas so Tyler Thomas I did a whole independent video on um cuz we got word that they were going to work him out same thing with the Clippers uh before we got like oh no it was like a pool type workout rather than an individual workout um so I I won’t dive too heavily into him again go check that video out on as it stands Lakers um but in a nutshell Tyler Thomas um he’s 24 so all these guys are kind of in the older age range again all these guys are more looked at and perceived at the 55th pick uh but he’s a 63 legit athlete two-way player can shoot the three ball um he’s a bit of a bucket getter right now he’s a guy that I I wouldn’t expect to come in and have like some insane impact but he is a guy that I do believe could come in and just be a key contributor on both sides of the basketball Off the Bench I he averaged 22 1/2 points 3 and 1/2 assists uh 5.2 rebounds 1.3 steals with Hofstra uh last season in his senior year um he’s a guy that I think could also help make an immediate impact again not a guy that I saying he’s going to score 22 points a game or anything that but I do think he’s a guy that can knock down the occasion three ball I create for himself get to the basket apply some Rim pressure um He’s listed as a combo guard he play point guard two guard he’s the problem with him he’s a bit undersized for the two guard but he’s best at the two he’s not a great playmaker he can make a play right he can find the occasional cutter you know he can he can keep the swing pass but he’s not a guy that is going to go out there and you know Chris Paul the the team right he’s a guy to me that you’re kind of looking at like a bucket getter Off the Bench I could see him kind of evolving into that sixthman role for the Lakers being a key guy off the bench for now and the M near future and just kind of be again kind of that that uh Lou Williams type that that can just go get you buckets in a hurry um but next up is Armando uh bot from North Carolina so again bit older 24 years old now he is a big fellow 6 foot1 um he did have some injury issues some injury concerns um um that kind of set him back a little bit again senior guy five years in college um but he is a guy that again I think could have a little bit of an impact to me I don’t know see the the problem is with the Lakers 55th pick is it’s like it’s so close to like undrafted that like some of these guys I think you could probably get undrafted and Armando is one of those guys right I don’t necessarily think that he would get drafted I think and most mock drafts don’t even have him in in the the draft list um but on the surface he’s a guy 611 240 lbs he’s got some good size good strength decent athleticism he’s a guy that for North Carolina averaged uh just under 15 points 10 rebounds one and a half assists had an EFG of 54% now again he so he had a bit of a stretch here but he doesn’t really take a lot of things so like he’s listed as a 40% three-point shooter in the 2023 2024 season but he’s not like some big volume guy um he’s more of like you know he can he can knock down the elbow he can he can put the ball in the hoop a little bit to me he would be again a bit of like uh coming in right be your third big maybe your second big Off the Bench I I just I would personally want a little more experienced guy um but he’s not a guy that I would hate if the Lakers ended up picking up I just think he’ll be there when the draft is over and you could bring him in on like a two-way right bring him into like the summer league roster and let him kind of just see what he can what he can provide now always also it always depends on you know what like what is his draft workouts how do they look cuz this is a guy that definitely two things that he could do one one I think he can wholeheartedly help with the rebounding issue he he is a very good rebounder he understands positions or positioning so I do believe he could do that um he’s a guy that can block some shots create play some defense he moves well right so like even this past year he averaged one and a half blocks and a steel or point six steals but he’s got good active hands right but he’s not a guy that I would expect to come in and and have this huge role granted you never know like look at Derrik Lively with with um the the Dallas Mavericks right like you know who thought he would be as big of a piece as he has been for Dallas right but to me Armondo is a guy that come in be a nice Lop threat get the occasional jumper um block some shots rebound I like him you know it’s not again not my favorite pick um but again at 55 not very many options in that regard but next up um you got Ray J Dennis so he was a transfer um from Toledo to Baylor um againin 23 years old he’s 6’2 uh kind of combo guard again um again another guy that I think will be there undrafted I’m not super sold on uh Ray J Dennis I I don’t think he’s terrible but he’s just to me he’s kind of like what we’ve seen numerous times with these like kind of undrafted undersized guards to me he’s like I I I just I don’t think he’d get a real roster spot I I’m he can make plays don’t get me wrong he’s a better playmaker um than you know say like Tyler Thomas but I just I I personally kind of want to stay away from the the smaller point guards you know 6’2 he’s not like tiny you know he’s not like 6 feet or anything like that but yeah he’s 62 18 right he can shoot the basketball a little bit he’s not like an elite shooter his actual three-point percentage actually dropped this past year uh in 2022 2023 he was 37% this past season he was 33% and I’m actually rounding up being nice I was 32.8% for being exact um but his production across the board dropped which is usually not good so he played more minutes than he ever played um not by much between last year and this year um but he did he played basically an extra minute or two um he shot 47.9% from the field where the previous year was 48.4 like I said 36.6 to 32.8 uh even his free throw percentage Dro from 70 basically 77% to 73% rebounding drop from 4.3% to 3.9% his assist total did go up by one full assist um but uh steals roughly the same he fouled more and he turned the ball over almost double and in total points he went from 19 a half to 13.6 so again it’s just he’s not a guy that I think is a realistic pick I think that they you know you work them out you do due diligence just to be safe just to see but to me he’s a guy that ah again I’m not super thrilled or sold on uh and to to kind of round out the guards cuz that’s pretty much what this was was basically a guard workout is David Jones now David Jones again 22 years old older guy go back to you know the Lakers like especially with the second round picks they really like the just kind of Veteran multi-e adult type guys adults in the room type guys but he to me Jones is listed at 66 he’s probably closer to like 65 but you know 65 66 is what you’re looking at with his size uh play of the two play of the three he’s got you know 66 210 is what He’s listed at um so again got some good size in that regard when you’re talking about Jones he is a straight two guard he is a bucket getter uh 210 lbs so he’s got some good size behind him uh he’s coming off of a very good year for Memphis he averaged just a hair under 22 points per game he rebounds well uh for the guard position averaged just a hair under eight rebounds per game uh just a hair under two assists per game and shot total 46% from the field um he shot 38% from three which was a huge leap um from the previous two years uh so in 2022 2023 and then 2021 2022 he shot uh 29.7 29.4% he took huge strides going into the 38% range also even his free throw uh percentage everything basically went up this past season which is what you want to see he always has been a good rebounder which he’s might like him and and Tyler might be my two favorite if we were to draft out of this pool right CU he’s a guy that could play the two he can play the three um again be a little undiz of three CU like I said he’s probably 6’4 6’5 um but he’s a guy that can shoot the three ball play some defense got good size got good athleticism can apply some Rim pressure uh but more than anything just rebounds the ball well he’s got a very good nose for rebounding the basketball I actually think he’s one of another guy that could come in and potentially make an impact right away I think he’s a guy that come in and you know knock down knock down the three create a little bit for himself rebound more than anything like that’s where I I really think he could kind of make his living just a quality rebounder like you know look at like a guy like Josh Hart right and and his impact um that’s kind of what I could see with him just kind of a real hustle guy gets out there chase down loose balls knocked down the occasional shot um really just kind of be the Dirty Work guy which is what I think the Lakers need they need those types of guys but anyway as always this is a discussion pass a question on you let me know your thoughts and opinions down in the comments below what do you think any of these guys stand out any of these guys you like do you think like n these guys are just just workout guys just due diligent guys um but again have a feel whatever your thoughts are I’d love to hear it so let me know down in the comments below that being said if you haven’t liked this video hit that like button helps me a lot me enjoy these types of videos and I truly appreciate it not subscribe to channel hit that subscribe button turn on the Bell notifications appreciate yall see you in the next one thank you

Lakers worked out several NBA Draft prospects and all appear to be prospect with the Lakers 55th pick in the draft. Lakers News of anyone potentially getting drafted at 17 seems to a no go so far which leads even more speculation that Lakers will trade the pick. Lakers Nation needs a quality prospect even at 55 and if the Lakers pull off everything they plan on could use a real playable player.

  1. Play your freaking rookies in the regular season. Have a healthy mix with 1 rookies and 4 vets. They need to adjust to the speed of the game. Biggest problem with the Lakers, lack of development.

  2. The one I like the most is Tyler Thomas. Guy can get buckets and make tough shots. David jones is a good prospect to get on a 2-way. He had an incredible year for Memphis and has experience with the Dominican national team. Heā€™s more nba ready than lot of the younger prospects.
